Here it is, Boss Rush 2!! The second entry in the series!

For those that don't know, "Boss Rush!!" is a compilation of bosses submitted by lbpcentral users. These bosses were judged, and the winner was titled with "Final Boss". A warning to the casual player: these bosses can get tough! It's no easy task to beat 'em, but in the end, it's all worth it (how cliché). So I urge you to go take a look at this amazing community project! Credit was given where credit is due.

To find it, search the PSN: LBPC_BossRush
The level names are: Boss Rush 2!! - Part One and Boss Rush 2!! - Part Two

No pictures or anything as of yet, so if you feel like submitting any (or even better, a video!), let me know and I'll put them up on this post.

The original thread for "Boss Rush 2!!" can be found here (http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=9034) (which discussed the rules, among several other things).

The first "Boss Rush!!" can be found here (http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=8964). If you wish to play the first BR, look it up under the PSN: aer0blue

My, that got a little bit confusing, didn't it? Sorry!

Also, if you experience any technical problems with any of the bosses, please message both me and the boss creator. Let us know what happened so we can fix any weird bugs and the likes. Thanks.

GODDAM! Why do I have to be going to Wales the DAY this comes out? With no internet or anything?

Note to self: Play what is most likely the most awesome sequel to the most awesome level ever as soon as you're back.

I updated the original post with the following note:

"Also, if you experience any technical problems with any of the bosses, please message both me and the boss creator. Let us know what happened so we can fix any weird bugs and the likes. Thanks."

I don't remember encountering problems with the bosses, and when I did, I notified the creators and they fixed it up. Still, if it happens, now you know what to do. Best of luck to you all on beating these beasts!

Ha! You think that's harsh! Try having your PS3 break THE DAY LBContra comes out!! :p

I've made it through the first batch (am I the only one? I don't see any other names on the scoreboard!). Really challenging bosses, I might not win the title for having made the hardest/most hated boss after all. :)

I encountered a slight bug though. At certain parts between bosses there's a wall of dark matter when two platforms that connect are not on the same plane, but this caused me to fall down out of the template and I had to pop to get back up there.

I also think that considering that the bosses are pretty challenging, maybe there should be more time given on the Race Gate. Just a suggestion. :)

I would agree with this as well.

I also had trouble with the big mech (the 4th boss, I believe??)... First time through, when I blew up the feet, it just remained standing - no way to get to it's brains. Second time through it fell backward and I was able to get to some of the brains, but there just too many electrified tablets to get to some of the others. And then after it "shifted its weight" some I was unable even to get up on top of it.

I'm not yet calling this a "bug" as I'm guessing I may just be doing it wrong and not have it figured out. So (Hey Gilgamesh) any advice?

I'm gonna put this behind spoilers so people who don't want hints can try to figure it out themselves. :)
Well, first off you should try to reach all the brains you can before blowing the feet. You can use the feet as jumping stones as it's generally safe to be underneath the boss while it's standing.

The backmost layer is safe from the electric hazards when the boss falls down. This makes it easier to reach the top of the boss because you can walk all the way up on the back layer and you only need to watch out for the gas logs (but since they occupy all three layers, they can't roll down the incline). You can also hide in a small spot in the middle layer by the boss' hip in order to reach the brain on top of the frontmost leg.

Once on top it gets pretty tough though because it's very rocky and you can easily fall down. There's also some brains that are hidden by the top of the frontmost leg which you might not see.

After I killed the Bulkhead Door or whatever it was called, there was a hole in the floor that I fell through all the way to the bottom of the level.

Updates:

I have made some adjustments on "Blast Mech" to make it more...beatable. It seems to be falling now when the feet explode, so that's a good thing. The electric balls were a little crazy, so I tweaked that a little, too.

I've fixed the dark matter bridges (sorry about that!).

Bulkhead Door X now has gas in that one hole.

The raceflag time is now 1,800 seconds. Doesn't that equal to half an hour? :]

I think I got everything, or well, almost everything.

Gah. The fourth boss is way too hard for me >_< I was using a bug to beat it, but now it's fixed, and a lot harder. Is the brain attached to it? I shot where the brain was, and nothing happened.

What about a new limitation for the next Rush? Like, the creator must at least have aced his boss one time. I think that is something most important for boss fights. You should be able to finish them without dying. I for myself aced my boss several times but i can't imagine that bridget ever aced her bosses.

Anyway, he has aced his previous bosses, I believe...and it's certainly possible to ace the BR2 ones. You just need reaaaally good reflexes.

that doesn't work, his feet are made out of metal so it's too heavy to be nudged

since we can't see the top half of his body while he's standing, do you think you might be able to build something out of view that'll make sure he falls over when his feet are blown up?

Finished the second part. It's a lot smoother than the first one, but man I almost lost all my lives at Enduro. That thing is a beast, and surprisingly original.

Once again, spoiler-tagged for those who want to figure it out for themselves. :)

You have to ceiling-hop on the white parts of the platform, while avoiding the fire hazards, to make it all the way to the switch. It's tricky, but not that difficult.

Hah, is funny when people get that wrong online. Yes, Im a guy, lol.

Is a bit less funny when it doesnt happen online and instead happens at the gas station again. Still amusing though.

And that stupid run to the gas station that I just did shouldnt have TAKEN that long. Im not gonna have time to mess with this much here tonight now, I think.

Crap, waaaayyyyyy too much caffiene tonight, having trouble sticking to topic again. Now Im thinking of Batman. Why? Because he's Batman.

ANYWAY.

Yes, I've aced everything I've created, which includes Rave. Without cheating, mind you.

I've tested and tested and tested again, and both bosses that I put up for this are both technically entirely fair, and possible to ace (as in, no points where it's impossible to dodge an attack).

Stuff I make is horribly cruel, but I make sure they're aceable before I ever put them out.

....except for the level I've been working on that's almost done, which is so nasty I havent beaten it myself yet. Need some tweaking there. If *I* cant beat it, there's a problem. Bloody stupid Megaman vanish-blocks.

And that's enough of me yakking in this post. Now the Ducktales theme is stuck in my head and driving me insane. Gonna go try the BR levels now though, will post my thoughts upon completing it. Provided I dont jitter myself to death too many times.

Current thoughts:

Some interesting concepts in here, for the first part.

The bit with the samurais at the start, I still think that's pretty cool.

Also, Bulkhead is a very unique concept; I liked that one. That was neat.

Though, note, the first of the 3 moving gates actually seemed to get stuck at one point; it just randomly stopped moving. Dunno if it's supposed to do that, thought I'd mention it.

However.....

.....Blast Mech doesnt work. I hate to have to say that, but as with many others here, it seems, I wasnt able to complete the stage the first time through because it became literally impossible. The final 2 brains were absolutely unreachable. I actually had to self-destruct 3 times because Sackboy got caught in a little wedge on part of the robot which caused him to "float" and stop jumping.

The problem is the thing with the bomb. The rest of the concept is really great, and I mean that, but the bomb doesnt work. My suggestion would be to replace the timed bomb with a bomb that only goes off when it's in the exact right position (like in a little slot in the floor). By just letting the player push the bomb, it ends up in slightly different locations each time.... and just a slight change in the bomb placement throws all sorts of angles off when the explosion happens.

It's a really cool idea, and I honestly like the thing, but it did indeed break. Im gonna give this all another go though, see what happens.

Haha, even my gf thinks this but... it's actually only one samurai that can teleport, not multiple samurai. :p

Oh well, it doesn't matter much. I'm still wondering why I haven't gotten those weird problems with Blast Mech yet. While difficult, I've never had it become impossible to beat by it getting stuck.

Huh... my experience has been the exact opposite. I've played it maybe 8-10 times now and only had Blast Mech fall ONCE. And if it doesn't fall, trust me... it's not possible to defeat.

Now that I think about it, I guess one teleporting one does make a bit more sense, mechanics wise.

Either way, I thought that was pretty **** awesome. First time that shockwave happened, it was like "whoa whattheheck! That was like a lawnmower!"

Ok.

More of my playthrough.

I think my patience is at it's end here.

Lets recount just how this went, in detail....forgive me, for this is gonna sound rather negative during parts of it:

At Bulkhead the 2nd time, ahh, I found out how to kill it REALLY fast. I think I ended that fight in 15 seconds, lol.

Still cool though.

I got Blast Mech down.... I was right about the bomb angles, I just was veeeeery careful about that..... HOWEVER, part of the reason I finished is I actually climbed halfway up the mech BEFORE using the bomb and popped a couple of the brains; Im not sure I woulda reached them after the fact.

That time, that boss went down fast.

I still say it's a great concept, and very nearly works, yes.

Then I had to fight mine. Im DEFINITELY too jittery to deal with my own nightmarish machines at the moment. I was killed at one point BY THE DOOR. I nearly threw a bottle of Windex at it.

It should be noted though that it's NOT the first time I've nearly thrown something at the screen when dealing with my own **** machines. Some may find this hilarious.

NORMALLY I die once, if at all, when fighting Vaera; it's pretty easy once you know how it works. Really, it is. And I've done this fight a zillionty times. But this time? Noooo. After getting killed by the DOOR, I proceeded to crash into the yellow beam multiple times.

Note to self: Caffiene plus bullet-hell = lots of dying.

Got past that after a time.

And then the thing with the eyeballs happened..

The problem with this isnt that it doesnt WORK, it's moreso the simple fact that most players are likely to not have a clue as to what to do here. I figured it out, but then came problem number 2. I've said this before, and I'll say it again: PLEASE dont make bosses that just spray random electric junk at the speed of light! I see this ALOT in user levels. Sackboy may have a hitbox that's alot smaller than it looks like it should be, so can often fit between projectiles, BUT, he moves slowly. Just WHIPPING crap at the player isnt the best idea; particularly when there's that much of it. It became more a thing of luck than anything else.

Now, I'll admit; I wasnt in the best mindframe for this at this point. The mech thing had me all irritated, and I was jittery to begin with. So if there was some specific pattern to that boss, or just plain something I missed, well, that's definitely possible, and feel free to let me know as such. But Im just recounting what happened on this current playthrough.

And then, what I believe is the last boss in the stage, the big bouncy.... thing in the room with the fire.

.....this one broke.

The thing you grab on the cieling was mashed by a fire brick, and if it was supposed to regenerate or something, ah, it didnt. I got to the switch on the right somehow anyway, but the switch on the left I couldnt reach whatsoever. I may have missed something though, so Im gonna go try this one last time.

Bridget
04-09-2009, 11:27 AM
And my patience has ended.

Mech broke again. That ended it for me.

I do apologize for being negative about all this, but the simple fact is, there's a good deal of broken things here.

I ended up quitting after exausting one of the checkpoints; the mech was likely to gobble up all of the others, simply with an impossible to reach brain due to another wierd angle (which was actually different from the first angle that broke it), and even if I HAD found some bizarro way of jumping up there (and believe me, I know every messed up jump technique there is in this), the eyeball bit woulda just irritated me too much.

I dont think Im going to try this again, honestly.

And anyone that knows me well knows that it takes something *really* amazingly annoying to get me to say that. Considering that I'll sit here playing a game like "I Wanna be the Guy" for hours, dying over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over in the same spot, but I dont get irritated at it.

Which is too bad, cause some of these are kinda neat, and the mech one is really neat too, just bugged, the only one I honestly just didnt like (for now anyway, again I point out that I may have missed out on an important thing I was supposed to notice) was the eyeball thing. I thought everything else was pretty cool, even if the boss in question broke for whatever reason.

And I'd like to see what all is in number 2, and I definitely wanted to see whatever the "final" one is; what kind of zany thing did that end up being?

For now though, honestly, Im just done.

Aer0, if anything in here should be fixed, let me know over AIM or something, would you? Fair chance that I'll forget this topic is here, particularly with me being rather preoccupied by Monster Hunter at the moment.

I apologize though. Not trying to hurt anyone's feelings or anything with anything negative I've said, but Im a bit aggravated at the moment so stuff I say is just gonna come out that way for a time.

EDIT:

Ok. After calming down a bit I tried this ONE LAST TIME.

And then IMMEDIATELY got more annoyed than I was the previous time.

Firstly, that mech.... I beat it this time, but only because it fell backwards farther than it had the previous two times; and even then, I nearly quit out of sheer annoyance. The jumping necessary here.... when the thing WORKS.... is hyper annoying as it is, and I think alot of players cant make these jumps unless they do it by bouncing offa some of the lower brains.... thus meaning, they screw up once, and it's over. Combine this with random projectiles that fly outta nowhere while you're already in the air and cannot do anything about it, and.... well, you get the idea. I do suggest one thing though: Make the stupid arm stop waving once it falls over. The position the two brains in it's hand are in make it nigh-impossible to hit most of the time, because right before Sackboy can touch them, he's swatted out of the sky by the points on the end. I only got them through sheerest luck.

Second, I figured out the eyeball thing; though the blue things it shoots are still really annoying. I understand the design now though, so I no longer hate it, lol.

Finally: The robot with the fire bricks broke again. Same way as before: the button on top of it's head is impossible to hit if the slidey block at the top that you need to use is smashed by the bricks, which it almost immediately was. I forget who made it.... Gilgamesh, is it yours? Well, whoever it is, that should be a danged simple problem to fix; other than that, the boss seems fine, really. The other 2 switches are plenty challenging, but they didnt break or something.

Well, likely aint seeing part 2 anytime soon here, lol. Which is a bit irritating.

But I only have so much patience, and I need to go to bed too.

I can however say that I was NOT killed by my own boss this time, hah. I was so irritated by that point that the stupid thing couldnt touch me.

That bouncy robot in a fire room is Robo-Boss 2000 I believe. Not one of my own.

I've never had trouble beating it (although there have been some near-misses with the fire bricks and the sponge) but I've had an annoying time actually getting out afterwards. Out of all the times I've beaten it, I've only once managed to get out in a straightforward manner... and that's only because I now know which switch to leave for last in order to do so (the top one).

I was seriously annoyed both times that I had a ridiculously difficult/impossible time just getting to the next boss! :)

I think the eyeball thing that spits out projectiles at the speed of light is Mega Turrent. It's actually not too difficult because there are several safe areas from the projectiles and a long pause in between the shots. I agree though that it's not obvious what one is supposed to do.

The following improvements have been made:

The Checkpoints now provide Infinite Lives.
Each boss has a separate Race Flag.
Part Two is now accessible at all times, but the sticker from Part One is required to have the Race Flags appear.
Blast Mech has been provided a Camera Zone tool.
Mega Turrent now has a Magic Mouth, providing a clearer idea of what to do.

Let me know if I missed anything, guys! It should be much more enjoyable now.

Dodeca Mk II was infuriating, because there seemed to be no warning of when a plasma ball would come, and sometimes the legs blocked the view. This one took my score from 40k to 1k. Bridgets was again hard, but not because of bugs, just the door, the paintinator being in the dead centre, and the green plasma. Blast mech fell in the wrong position the one time, but by bouncing off of brains I just managed to kill him (still took 20 lives though :() The eye-dood, which I think was Gilga/Jirugamesh(i)'s 2nd one was annoying, due to the different things being emitted in very annoying ways. The steps at the right are too annoying to climb, as well, and the three swinging platforms at the top get mashed into the ceiling by the shurikens, chucking you of if you're not lucky.

Then comes Robo-9000.

The grab block broke.

I am NOT retrying.

And I am not playing BR2Pt2 until the bugs are sorted out and I can finish the first part without fearing a game-breaking bug.

I think you're describing Mega-Turrent, not one of my own. At least no one has still said I made Enduro Dualis or Tetra Vaera lol. :p

XD

The second part of the Boss Rush is a lot better. There's fewer bosses (I think) and less tendency for bosses to break. There might be a tendency for PS3 controllers to break at Enduro Dualis though. ;)

And to think, that fight is EASIER than the one I'd made for the previous BR, and certainly easier than Rave.

I could have been meaner with this one. Oh I could have. :p

Oh, I can make them harder. Muuuuuuuch harder..... yet still while being technically fair. :p

Trouble is that these things are originally designed in such a way as not to challenge others, but to challenge *me*, and I've a rather warped sense of difficulty; likely from all the shmups. Like, most players cant beat Rave; even with practice it's very difficult to beat the 3rd and definitely the 4th section. As for myself though, I've never lost that fight.

As for these two I did for BR2, Vaera is what I consider fairly easy; if I die at all during that one it's usually only once, and generally due to my own impatience. For Enduro, I might do something stupid when climbing up the right side of the inner section. Or get hit by the white shots during the first part of that fight. I never seem to die on the 2nd pattern.

And those 2 were both toned down, lol.

Like the shmups I play though, it just takes some practice. With these, the more you play LBP in general... and if you pay attention properly during the fights.... you'll do that much better.

On the note of these, I intend on making videos of them tonight to put up on my Youtube channel like I did with Rave (which'll also show ways to handle them with less trouble).

I'd also thought of making a video of the entire BR2 stage, complete with those little comment things, which'd show the name of the boss currently being shown, and the name of the creator. The point being to show off the level; I found that helped alot with Rave, to get more plays and feedback and such.

If anyone sees any problems with this, let me know, otherwise I intend on doing it tonight.

The only problem *I* can think of is that I still havent been able to finish that boss at the end of section 1 without it breaking!

I have a similar idea for BR3...but I'll keep that for later on. ;)

I doubt anyone would have a problem with it--it's a showcase of their bosses, after all! And if you need any help...you know who to contact. ;D Regardless, great idea.

So... did anyone manage to beat the final boss? :)
