I thought it would be cool to maybe have LBP themed smilies to make our board more unique, so I tried to create a pixel version of sackboy's head. All I have so far is the "Smile"

eh?

Edit: I think it looks a little better with the mouth lowered.

I'll make more in which ever style most people like (if Pinocchio doesn't mind)

That's a totally awesome idea. Keep the ideas coming guys. I'll make sure to add the LBP smileys pack when it's done. :)

haha nice, that'd be cool. I like Pinocchio's because the shape of the head, but AoD's are nice too.

Well I already put my work into this before I came across this topic...so here is the one I made.
http://i180.photobucket.com/albums/x3/lbp_global/assets/sackboy_smiley.png

I thought I had to keep it in the same size dimensions as the original smilies...because I've never worked on customizing vbulletins before. I like how this little guy turned out. I beefed him up with a little anti-aliasing and I had to tweak the colors a lot. It seems like a vote is already set-up though, so I can't wait to see how the rest of the smilies turn out.

Ok, yours is the best. I tried to keep it circle ish and pixelatetd, but this just looks a lot better (the top stitching looks kind of odd), but I don't think you have to keep it the same dimensions.

Yeah it still needs a lot of work...I did have a lot of problems trying to get the stitching to look right as well. If I don't have to stay to the same dimensions...I'll probably try making it just a little bit bigger so I can have a little more room to space some things out.

Thanks! ^^ You definitely had the right idea Pinocchio by staying to the square-ish face of the sackboy. You've already got a great start too. I would definitely keep going!

@ ants
Sorry I don't want you to think that we are ignoring you or anything. So in answer to your question I made my sackboy "sprite" in MS Paint also. You can make your own very easily by simply opening up Paint, selecting either the pencil tool or the paint brush tool (at smallest size to work in pixels) and start creating.

Here is an example for you. It's Pyriamid Head!

The small version is what you actually work with...and the bigger version was a zoomed in look of the pixel outline. This is unfinished and I don't know if I am ever going to finish it, but thats just how you start out. I would probably start by working off of some edit sprites. Like Mario from Super Mario World. Try altering his look and practice.

how big can it be? 16x16? or can we go bigger than that... whats the max size?

AoD

we have to wait for lbp to answer I guess. But I'm pretty the maximum would be bigger than anything we would need.

Pinocchio

 = 21x16
 =16x16
...
there are some bigger than 55, but the normal ones are 16, whichs the best for the height, the widths not that important i think....

I have seen on other V bulletin boards ones that are 20x20 so I assume that would work here too.

yes, every size is possible, but the most used smilies should be as small as the usual fontsize...

yeah, otherwise it will look like a big mess :S

well it took quite a lot of trial and error, but I think this is as small as an animated smiley can go without becoming a big pile of pixle abomination

http://i39.photobucket.com/albums/e158/Kiwni/alpha1.gif blah blah blah insert text here...]

what you guys think?

AoD

I like the animation, but I think it is too large too be in a pack of smileys.

yea I know, but when I tried 16x16 the thing just became a brown blob with 1 eye, waving at me....not really rated E....

what happend to lbp and that size cap anyway...he never got back to us

Sorry guys. Been crazy busy the last while. I'd say it'd have to be 20x20 max. I know that's limiting, but it also keeps the lines of text together more instead of big gaps created by the smileys. Keep up the great work guys. :)
