I feel so bad for him :( . He naively (sp?) made his levels copyable thinking nothing would happen just so people can copy to their moon to check out how it worked. Then, some jerk named gordy2007 copied it, republished as his own and got a bunch of plays, hearts and 5 stars! It's a great level so I think everyone should play the original one. Whoever hearted gordy2007 or the level should unheart it and heart the original creator (AAAlone.)

The level is Moving Parts by AAAlone

No, lil-klash is telling everyone AAAlone is the original creator. I don't know why lil-klash has a copy of the guys level published though. He has in the description "made by AAAlone, heart him not me" but I don't think that it's necessary for him to publish a copy...

Burnvictim42

Yea, lil-klash is doing it wrong... but anyway, i played this just now, and was rather impressed. It must have taken him a very long time to get all the mechanics to work out where they work when the world flips all around :P a real shame he made it copyable though.

MM really needs to add a copyable option where your level can be copied to a moon and played around with there, but cannot be republished and none of the components can be captured and moved to a different level.

I agree with that SO much. It'd get rid of so many problems...

Anyways I played AAAlone's version (the original one) first and it was one of the best levels I've played in a long while. It's just a shame some guy stole it and it became really popular (the stolen version is actually on page 1 of the Highest Rated page, or at least the last time I checked:grr:).

If everyone here played it (literally load it and exit) and rated it one star, tagged it rubbish, and uploaded a picture of the word "thief" or "this level was stolen" it we could knock it off the highest rated page. Then play AAAlone's version and rate it what you think it is.

Its kinda a personal opinion :P It is impressive work though- the entire level rotates several different times, and he's still able to keep monsters and all the parts in working order without having them all glued down. There are also some places where the level shifts right into place, which must have taken eons to perfect.

how fitting indeed.

well, good luck with that Justice Team, i'm not sure how well it will work though =/ About half of the copied levels comments are "amazing job" and the other are "you copied this, take it down you !&@^@&"

And most of the pictures are ads lol.

..good idea. Thanks! ..and that was one really awesome level!!

fwiw..

I saw that someone else besides lil-klash has a copy of this level and added to the description that it wasn't theirs and to give the hearts to AAAlone.

I guess they have good intentions, but I don't understand how publishing a copy saying heart the original creator helps anything. It would make more sense if their intention is to spread the word via another level is to make a level such as the Please Read by TheWiggler.

You guys!
How refreshing to be part of a forum that actually CARES about things such as these.
Exactly the same thing happened to me a month or so back, and people on here were very supportive, playing the copy of my level and leaving bad tags and 1* ratings. Luv y'all!
All we can do is leave low star ratings on the copy, and play the original and rate it higher. It's a sad state of affairs, as LBP would be great if loads of peoples levels were copyable (so we could tinker and see how things are done) but who wants their hard work to be ripped off?

So thanks to all who helped me and I shall be doing what I can for AAAlone. (Just as soon as my PS3's fixed!)

Yeah he did but it was only so people could check out how it works, he never knew this would happen to him. Oh well, he says he learned from his mistake. I'll do what wex suggested to try to get this guy gordy off Highest Rated. AAAlone will appreciate all your efforts :) .

Syroc
05-28-2009, 06:22 PM
Aha.
Just played it, too. Pretty nice and it gave me an idea for my level (no, not the rotating sections).

Anyway, as been said before it would be really nice if there was a way to make it copyable but not republishable, like I previously thought the story levels would be.

AAAlone
05-28-2009, 06:28 PM
Oh wow! First! Thanks to you all for showing some interest, and to brnxblze in particular for doing his part in spreading the word! I'm new to this forum, but registered for the soul purpose of giving you all my heart felt gratitude. You've spent time and effort supporting me and it was the least I could do (and I'm always trying to do the least I can do. ;-)

Second: about my leaving the level copiable. I suppose I got caught up in the whole "create, play, share" idea. I had been reading some pro-copyable posts was feeling warm and fuzzy about the community. There was a lot of complex stuff in the background of this level and I figured folks might be currious... I never imagined someone would steal it whole cloth and publish as their own! Naive? Yes, I'll cop to that. Stupid? In hind sight, yes definately. You can rest assured I will never do it again! If someone is burning with curriosity about how I did something, they can message me and I'll extract that portion to a copyable locked level for them. That's the right way to share in a great community (spoiled by a few dishonest folks).

Third: should MM moderate gordy2007s level? honestly I don't think so. He didn't break the rules. He acted in the poorest of taste, and displayed a digusting lack of creativity, but it was all within the bounds of the game. If he feels shamed enough to delete his dupe, I won't be unhappy, but I suspect scoundrels like him don't feel shame.

Finally: I've got enough in my life to keep me busy without worrying about little details like this. But when I was accused of stealing my own level-- the artists' pride welled up in me and I posted a complaint on LBWorkshop (which was quickly moderated though the strongest language I used was scoundrel... or blackguard). I'm not generally a glory hound. I felt dispair, and disgust for the LBP community. In fact, at first I considered simply deleting my level and letting gordy2007 have it. The response since has given me hope. And I really must thank you all once more.

Sorry for the wordy post. Best to you all.

AAAlone (though apparently not alone)

I played this level with Dex, and really loved it...but...

HOW THE FRICK DO YOU GET OUT OF THAT SPONGE POD WITH THE ROTATING BACKGROUND?!

The one where 6 point bubbles drop when a red butterfly appears. Dex and I spent 5 minutes stuck in there...retrying did nothing...urgh.

Other than that, a really good level.

Syroc:

My suggestion to MM was to include an original publication date in the level information, but your idea (copiable, but not publishable) is much better! I'll add it to the LBWorkshop wishlist if you haven't already!

Also wik... lil-klash16 has been very kind and helpful. Why did lil-klash publish a copy? Because he (I'm assuming he's a he) is quite popular (claims to be the original author of the Rube Goldberg levels). Many folks wait anxiously for new levels from him and this makes his dupe an excellent mouthpiece to that portion of the community that may not frequent these posts. However, I misunderstood some of his advice and puplished a new copy of my level (and deleted the old! Doh! I'm an idiot). Sooo... my level has a very short comment history now, but I assure you I am the original author. Please feel free to verify my original ad for the level on LittleBigWorkshop.com if you need to.

I think you're refering to the embedded mini-game. That portion should automatically dump you out (tiping to the left) when it reaches the end of its cycle . It has never stuck for me in the past, but you're the second I've heard that had this problem. Sorry about that! Most welcome and Welcome!

Make sure you post in the introduction section. I am relatively new here.. but I think you will find most the folks here are very supportive of each other as well as very appreciative of innovative levels and the time and energy it take would take to do one such as this one for example. ..so yeah.. any thought of someone forging their name to a level, especially one that obviously took considerable time and effort beyond the fact it is cool concept, is not going to go over well here.

I think you should post this level as well as any other levels you have in the level showcase.

Take care and good luck!

About lil-klash16 and Hoppla14 having your level copied and published, I really think that they shouldnt do that since it's your level but instead, like someone else said here, make another level telling everyone that that's your level.

Oh and BTW, TripleTremelo is the original Cause and Effect creator ;) .

I really hope you the best with this issue, your level is amazing and you should be credited for it.

This is exactly why MM should make a Semi-Copyable (http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?p=177228#post177228) option for levels.

Thanks again, everyone! I'm really starting to feel better about this. Who knows if that weasle gordy2007 will pull his copy or not, but I feel better just knowing you guys have my back.

Unfortunately I haven't been near my PS3 in the last day or so (life intervenes) so can't see how things are going. One pleasure I've had has been the laffs I get every time I see a comment on gordy's level, or the pictures that are uploaded to it, or comments on this forum.

@Jackofcourse
The attention to detail you apply in your levels was an inspiration to me to get Moving Parts as tight as I could. And yes, I was very emotional when I found the copy. It all started when sombody commented on my level that I stole it from gordy! Man, I almost blew a gasket! It was maybe 1:30 in the morning, but I stayed up to comment on the thief's level and fumed about it until 3:30 a.m. (my kids had me up the next morning at 6:30!). The next day I was scheduled to be out of the office so watched all day as the PR wave in my defence started rolling!

I am humbled by the support I have recieved.

It's nice to know my levels inspire others :)

I'm sure all this support will help, but even if he doesn't pull the level down you can be safe in the knowledge that that is the only good level he will ever publish. However, when you move on from here you will still have the talent and ability to make more great levels. (Small consolation I know, but it is one, nonetheless).

I guess life is about learning from our mistakes!

lil-klash16 and hoppla has copied it to try to show people that AAAlone made the level. I agree that it isn't the best way to show the truth as most people ignore level description's and comments. And the other dude, I'm not too sure who you're talking about, but they may have stolen it.

Well, I just played AAAlone's level and it is a masterpiece.

The other copies, regardless of how they may be spinned, are still doing damage to the true author, as only a fraction of the people who play LBP levels actually read the description, and even fewer read the comments.
I'm sure that each of these copies has generated a considerable number of Creator Hearts. It just so happens that this is the reason most individuals utilize the LBP "Cloning Technology". It requires minimal effort with huge returns. Even if the level gets moderated, the Creator Hearts remain.

A much better approach would have been to turn to the LBP forums that exist, and solicit help from the ever-growing group of true Creators.

Just some thoughts.

Rick

I was doing the H4H Bounty Hunter thing (go to levels, sticker them with Anti-H4H stuff and upload the picture) and I found this guy tabernac11, did the Bounty Hunter thing and went to check his comments for more H4Hers, everything was going normal. I click on this guy franci146 thinking he's a H4Her and when I'm looking at his levels for the H4H one I look down and see Moving Parts there locked and published! Hi all,
Just an update.

I've kindly requested lil-klash and hoppla remove their copies. Lil-klash was imediately compliant and I am certain he was only ever acting in my interest. Honestly, he was the first to encourage me to stand up for it when I was dejected and considering just letting the looser gordy take the credit (and chalking it up as a lesson learned.)

Hoppla I'm not so sure about, but we'll see. He seems to have good motives (if capitalizing a bit to score some hearts), and at least he gives credit. We'll see if he pulls the level or not.

Incredible! Good job for getting on the first page! I enjoyed your level all the way to the end, so very well made :)

Congrats!

Thanks everyone!

The response has been overwhelming since the whole incident started!

Thanks to sheeplord for the video! Looks like he's pretty good at it... but he did miss two of the red butterlies!

I've been recieving a lot (a lot) of questions via comments on the level. As that is a terrible forum for that sort of thing (esp. since I don't hook a keyboard up to my PS3) I'll be answering them via this excellent forum. However, I'll keep that discussion on my level thread in the Level Showcase! (AAAlone's Level Shack).

Lesseon number one. If you have a level that is amazing. Never make it copyable

Thanks. That message hadn't been made abundantly clear yet. :)

Honestly, though I wish the community were mature enough to share openly, it obviously is not. However, I do believe we should keep the flow of information as open as possible. I don't believe any of the IDEAS I used are unique, nor should they be off limits to other creators. It would be great if someone was able to take something from my level and use it to make a great level themselves! Whole cloth theft is another animal, and I assure you I won't be a victim to that again!

If there's something you want from my level, I'll do my best to help, and even >gasp!< share that bit with you. I know now-- don't let the fox in the hen house. But if the fox were to come to my door and ask me for one of my chickens... I might just take that one chicken out of the coop... put in a locked copiable level and share it with the fox.

I love the way lil-klash16 basically rode your coat tails to the front page with YOUR level and got a five star rating then decides to substitute his own level in place of it. So now he has a 5 star level...not to mention all the unearned hearts. I don't usually say anything about anyone out there....but this one takes the cake. Not sure who's worse....the guy that stole your level to begin with or the guy that got a huge chunk of your thunder and now has an unearned 5 star rating on his own level. This "NEW" level is just a bunch of recycled stuff from story mode and such community authors as Biddle666, ZX497 and others. A real shame, this whole thing..if you ask me.

I played his level 'A Long Way' last night and it's just a rip off of Maxed Out 2 tbh. Granted there is some cool stuff in there, but a lot of the same contraptions, he even uses the exact same materials and style in parts...I looked at the comments and not one person had picked up on it :|

(Sorry about this being off topic, I've been wondering where to put it without coming across as harsh, but seeing as someone else also thinks it, here will do)

I've left a comment telling him I don't approve, we'll see what he says, looking back over the comments he's been quite rude to a few people so could be interesting :)

EDIT: I said: While it was nice of you to help AAAlone, copying your level onto his is pretty cheap to be honest. While it may not be as bad stealing his level, it is still on the spectrum of dishonesty. It is a shame because this level is worth more than that.

He deleted it and replied: Cool i am really happy to hear that. But everybody is free to do what they want and i dont need it. Who want to make the policeman of lbp? Jack! Of course! JOKE.

If he truly believes everyone is 'free to do what they want', why was he so bothered about Gordy stealing the level? Would appear he had his own little agenda after all :( and the policeman remark is nonsensical seeing as he was the one who was so up for hanging Gordy. Think it was just a cheap attempt at humour more than anything.

Wow.. I am really disappointed to hear that after doing such a kind act.

He may feel everyone is free to do whatever they want, but it really just makes you question his credibility. It also doesn't tell him anything as to how well his level really did.

Is A Long Way really a new level or did he just republish it on top and gain the plays and hearts? Seems like I have played it awhile ago though I could be mistaken.

Not sure what could be done about it, but thanks for sharing the info!

I played it a while ago too but I didn't notice he just published over Moving Parts, I thought he just republished it. That's a shame he would do that after supposedly trying to help AAAlone. Now that I think about it, all of lil-klash's levels are pretty much different versions of other levels (Cause and Effect by TripleTremelo, Maxed Out by Qugz, Block Race by EvilPanda are some I remember.) He's pretty good at creating but still, I see why some people on this forum were getting angry at him before.

Fact of the matter is that I really know very little about lil-klash, having met him through LBP when this whole thing started. He contacted me the next day and said he could help, and I've just gone along.

Here's what I do know:

1) He offered his support and followed through with it. Honestly I thought he was a little over zealous at times, but it's hard to fault that when it's in your defense.
2) My plays began going through the roof once he put his copy up. This may have been cooincidental, but he did predicit it, and a number of comments early on indicated that folks were unsure which the original was, "but since klash vouched for you, you must be the author."
3) When I requested he take his copy down he did so without hesitation, and has maintained a stream of friendly emails since.
4) He's a 16 year old kid. Sure that doesn't excuse any impropriaties, but it's hard (at my lofty age) to really expect the same level of moral fortitude from someone at who's age I was a real helligan.

Did he ride on the coat tails of my level? Maybe. Honestly, I'm fatigued over this whole thing. He may have gained some hearts and a trophy (I know he already had plenty of hearts and expect the relavant trophies as well), but at least he's not another claimant I have to battle with...

Did he copy other folk's levels? Of this I'm not sure. The people on this forum probably have a better working knowledge of who did what first. I've only been at it a little while. And I know first hand how hard it is to verify a claim of original authorship. He has spoken to me of the difference between being inspired by a great level and copying it. I hope that he has been inspired by the work of others and creates similar things as homage, rather than blindly copying (or worse, blatantly copying for personal gain). I'm inclined to give him the benefit of the doubt here. You all may feel otherwise.

As to his kurt response to Jackofcourse. English is this kid's second language. Text is a poor conveyor of nuance and meaning. Based on my communication with him, I suspect he was trying for good natured humor here. The bit about "I don't need it" is no doubt in reference to lil-klash's popularity (though I admit now that it may be illgotten.) It is true, however, that he doesn't need me to get thousands of plays.

I guess in the end, I'll have to keep an eye on this guy... see if his actions in the future match his words.

I agree with AAAlone. I noticed after the second comment that English mustn't be his first language and that lead me to view what he said and how it must have been meant differently. After the comments on his level we exchanged a few emails and it was all good natured.

There's no denying he is a very good creator. His 'A Long Way' level, although as lot of it is seen in Maxed out 2, even to recreate what was done in that level is impressive enough.

I simply said to him in the emails that from his levels it's clear that he didn't need to piggyback off 'Moving Parts' in order for it to be a success, and it is a shame that he felt the need to do it. But it's his call and it's all good.

I agree with the thing about him only being 16 too, it's hard to say without coming across as patronising or condescending, but what you said is correct to be honest.

Do forgive my blatant agism. Being a jerk is certainly not exclusive to the young. I definately know, work with (against), and encounter on a daily basis many middle aged and older jerks, jackasses, and bullies. Likewise, I meet, regularly, young adults with a maturity, ability, and intelegence (I be lookin' at you brnxblze!) that puts many of my aged counterparts to shame.

My point was only that at lil-klash's age, I really thought I had a handle on what was right and what was wrong. I also thought I knew it all and had nothing to learn. Needless to say my perspective on these things (and virtually everything else) has changed. And the one thing I do know is that it will continue to change. If you'd have asked me 5 years ago about child rearing, I'd have had a lot of stupid things to say about it. If you had asked me 4 months ago about publishing copiable levels in LBP I would have had a lot of stupid things to say about it. The difference now is that I expect to find myself wrong on occasion. I try to see things from the other side and think it through. And I try to be kind, fair and wise, while knowing I will sometimes fail.

As an aside, the things I did retain from my youth (and I'm glad I did) are playfulness, inquisitiveness, and creativity. They are the traits that brought me to LBP (and by extention to you all). They steered me to a higher degree in Fine Art, and have served me well in my day job too. They are the source of whatever success I have had to-date. They enable me not only to identify and understand problems, but to believe they can be solved and to enjoy solving them. LBP has been a great outlet/exercise for it.

It is true. Events transpired exactly as lil-klash predicted and I truly believe he was in large part the archetect of my restoration. For that I am still deeply thankful. My interactions with him have been only possitive, and I consider him a friend.

Regarding the liberal lifting of other creator's ideas-- obviously I frown on all such behavior if it steps beyond inspiration into plagarism. I, however, am not familiar enough with the particulars of klash's supposed offences to comment one way or another. As I said before, I'm inclined to give him the benefit of the doubt.

I truly lament that LBP has become such a political endeavour, and wish we could all just get back to creating, playing, and sharing in the spirit intended.

i played this level, i dont remember at the moment who's i played but it was very inspiring. it was one of the levels that make me think, i think i can do that. then fail horribly when i try to create something like it. its a shame people are so trophy happy and/or popularitywhores that they cant just play a level and et ideas. I have a couple of people's levels copied to my moon, not published, so i can reference how they did something as opposed to my ideas on it.
