View Full Version : Yes, use F4F M1A2 Abrams Main Battlle Tank

08-12-2009, 01:42 AM
I made an M1A2 abrams tank and it took me weeks, so please check it out. It's not your average crummy dumb tank, its feature heavy, realistic, low-thermo, and easy to use. It has everything you'd expect from a tank and more. It has a paintinator machine gun, smootbore tank cannon, it can shoot cluster bombs or accurate warheads, an armored hatch, and more. There are great effects like machine gun flashes, global lighting explosions, and reloading sound effects. All tanks are prizes, and more, like a chinook helicopter, desert cammo, and playstation eye stickers of tanks. Here are some photos, some from gameplay and some from create mode:

M1A2 Abrams Main Battle Tank:

Ch-47 Chinook Helicopter:

Merkava 4 Tank sneak peek (coming soon):

Please try it out, because it took weeks for me to make.
My psn is Incinerator22
The level name is: M1A2 Abrams Tank, Revised & Updated. My Best Vehicle Yet!

Please leave comments on problems, feedback on how I can improve the tank, or how freaking awesome the tank is. :p

These look really good, I can tell you put a lot of time into them. It looks realistic, and as you said also has good sound effects. I can't wait to try it out.

This looks amazing! I will try them all out later today. Hope you found a solution to the easily breaking tracks that many tanks suffer from.

I played your level, and I thought the tank was great! It actually discouraged me somewhat from finishing a tank I was building. Very real looking, I just wish there was something that I could actually shoot at. By the way, when you walk by the tank that tells you all the controls, the black polyester has a speech bubble on it that comes out as ****************.

-realistic tank
-tank works nicely
-not much to shoot
-a bit difficult to aim down, but I suppose that adds to the realism
-can't see much to the right when you drive the tank
-tank doesn't seem to shoot very far

Still a great level overall.

I don't have any F4F levels, but it would be nice if you could look at my "Jazz" level (in my signature) or my "The Monster's Mansion" level. Either is fine.

08-12-2009, 05:41 PM
That looks awesome, i'm not sure that i played the level, but from the screenshots that looks really cool

08-12-2009, 09:12 PM
WOW! That Abrams tank certainly looks the part! I'll definately have to check THIS out!

08-13-2009, 12:16 AM
thanks warlord evil, but this is only the demo. The mission will have plenty to shoot at. And the tank shoots really far, what do you mean? I think you're talking about the black sabot rounds. In real tank rounds, theres a stabiliser called a sabot that falls off tank rounds when you shoot them. maybe that'ss what you're talking about. And sorry the tank couldn't aim farther down, I had to do that so noobs wouldn't blow themselves up with cluster bombs lol.

08-14-2009, 04:30 AM

Those look fantastic! I want me some!

08-16-2009, 09:53 AM
Hey man. This tank is really rather good. Very true-to-life design and the interface / controls are actualyl quite easy to use once you get used to them. I also like how the paintgun can be used from behind that little bit of cover on the back.

I'm gonna throw out some ideas there for "improvements". Most of this would be major hassle and wouldn't actually add much, so I don't expect you to implement it :p

move the machine gun forward one layer, that way you can fire past the main turret and you would also be able to jump down through the hatch, which'd be cool.
When firing the main cannon, the reload noise wasn't obvious straight away. I was wondering why it wouldn't fire again :p Maybe a little LED to indicate ready to fire?

In terms of the tech demo, on my first run through I spent ages tring to get into the dummy tank... Maybe adjust the step so you can get on and then have a text box reinforcing that this isn't the proper tank :p Also there is a long, quite boring drive to the scoreboard. You say the tracks are stronger now, why not show us they are with some more rugged terrain?

That's about it, it's a 5 star job without a doubt.

Wow! The tank looks amazing! I'll check this out today :D

08-16-2009, 05:59 PM
Thanks rtm for the great feedback and kind words :) But i did have text saying the first tank was the fake one lol. I probably will have a 2nd version of the tank with the mg in a different layer, that annoyed me too. And I'll double the noise of the reloading sound by making two :)

08-16-2009, 08:37 PM
Yeah I noticed on my second run through that you explicitly said it - didn't stop me jumping at that bloody step over and over and over again lol :p It's not your fault, I know. BTW I actually work with some of the tech that goes into the real world Abrams - this makes me cool :D

Lol, sure it does :p.

08-17-2009, 05:11 AM
You work with abrams tech? What do you mean? really? That's awesome !!!!!!

08-17-2009, 08:30 AM
The company I work for specialises in Military / Aerospace Embedded Computers. GDLS are one of our biggest customers, actually possibly our biggest customer. All I do is actually write the low-level software for hardware interfacing and board bring-up etc. I don't get to do the applications stuff, but the project I'm working on atm will be going towards a refit on the Abrams, along with some other stuff.

See, when I explain it, it's far less cool :p I'm not even allowed to know exactly what they are using my stuff for, as I'm not a US national and don't actually need to know.

08-17-2009, 05:06 PM
Haha, thats still downright wicked cool rtm. And I'd like to say thank you to everyone who tried out my level, I couldn't be happier that i got almost 1500 plays :) It may not be 30,000 but it got to page 4 of the cool levels, so like I said, thanks again for helping make that possible :)

08-20-2009, 07:19 PM
ive seen the chinook actually carrying a jeep once before and its pretty good. Although the proportions are a bit off...

Delete and repost it. Timing has a bit to do with where you level ends from what I can tell. Also put some actual rough terrain. People like running over stuff.

They look awesome. How many layers, thin and thick, does the whole tank use?

08-22-2009, 12:41 AM
I don't think I'll ever get more than 1500 plays lol. It must've been a one in a million fluke. But I purposely posted when 100,00 people were online, I know the system. And as for my tank it uses two thick layers and 3 thin layers. i updated my level a while ago with things to shoot and rougher terrain, but its more of a model tank, not that great for extensive gameplay. But my newest tank the merkava 4 uses metal treads and a mostly wooden body. The treads are practically incincible. Their ony weaknesses are sharp objects and noobs :p

That's some pretty tough talk for a fuzzball. lol jk. The proportions aren't off at all, I dont know what you mean. The only thing i screwed up on was the windows. They're circular in real life, not square like on mine. Don't tell anybody lol.:grr:

08-22-2009, 09:34 AM
very impressive tank. how did you get the switches so small

08-22-2009, 10:15 PM
I don't know, I'm just good at switches. Check out my switch level too to get tons of those tiny logic boxes as prizes :)

08-24-2009, 12:30 AM
Dude, it would be so awesome if you tried your hand at a boat for the water update.

08-24-2009, 06:53 AM
I tried your tank and it was good but it needs suspension and better tracks. see my tank track tutorial level to see how to make better tracks. no offence, the rest of the tank is great.

08-25-2009, 09:28 PM
well thanks, i agree... I tried to make the tank with metal treads but they kept breaking because of the tension. I'll keep trying but I'm pretty busy, what with school and how I've made an mrap and next i'll make an army stryker :)

And thanks marvelous hat, I thought of that too. Imagine the sweetness of a giant floating aircraft carrier or a military submarine :)

08-25-2009, 11:09 PM
I talked with someone at MM and Sony and mentioned the possibility of making a tread material or a tread template, or at least setting the attribute of a material or object (bolt) to indestructible. I approached this like tracked vehicles were very popular but I think there are a select few that have success with them.

I remember my first track design would actually stick to flat surfaces and break. My current design will still break on a sharp edge. My current abrams, which I have not worked on is quite a while, can actually be set very fast and get airborne. The treads will still break on sharp edges if it hits right but having tried alot of different user tanks I think that just the way its going to be for now.

your tank is good but it needs suspension and better tracks, try my level called (st-72 tank) you wont be dissapointed. :)

your tank is good but it needs suspension and better tracks, try my level called (st-72 tank) you wont be dissapointed. :)lol its not very polite to advertise your tank level on another person't tank level... unless you use f4f but you're new. And I don't really consider "tank is good but needs suspension" feedback

08-29-2009, 11:23 AM

08-29-2009, 11:31 AM

08-30-2009, 10:18 AM
Incredible, that was exactly what your title implies. It was definitely the most realistic tank created in the world of LittleBigPlanet. I can't wait to see what kind of amazing level you can make with this.

If you don't mind playing my Wipeout series that would be great! I would greatly appreciate some feedback. Thank you!

09-04-2009, 08:56 AM
Very nice. Tanks are pretty hard to make. Satisfying though.

09-15-2009, 12:58 AM
