View Full Version : A Riddle

I wrote this to try and stump some people elsewhere. Thought i'd share. Have a crack if you wish :p

I am a disguised saboteur who has the power to bewitch the senses. When i am revealed in the light of truth, my powers wane until i am born anew by the power of a serpent tongue. My father was a nasty devil, creating me to spread chaos throughout the land of men. Those who use me for their own devices often regret it later, for though i have no substance, i can bind a man more surely than any chain. What am I?

I was going to say its "a lie" after reading it, but Cog beat me to it. Very well done, I enjoyed that. I remember a poem I read freshman year of high school. This one isn't as much of a riddle, but it does have enough in common so that you'll hopefully see the resemblance. :)

A tourist came in from Orbitville,
parked in the air, and said:

The creatures of this star
are made of metal and glass.

Through the transparent parts
you can see their guts.

Their feet are round and roll
on diagrams of long

measuring tapes, dark
with white lines.

They have four eyes.
The two in back are red.

Sometimes you can see a five-eyed
one, with a red eye turning

on the top of his head.
He must be special--

the others respect him
and go slow

when he passes, winding
among them from behind.

They all hiss as they glide,
like inches, down the marked

tapes. Those soft shapes,
shadowy inside

the hard bodies--are they
their guts or their brains?
