Snakes on a Damewexfordian
"A retrospect vista on the vigourous days of platforming by way of a fundamental Greco-Roman-themed level with a fulminant final struggle contra one of the three mystical gorgon, namely Medusa, Snake-haired mistress of rock." Thanks Syroc ;)

Id just like to thank ViDi-ViCi for his excelent graffitti which I used for the badge, Jagrevi for the Title (and killzoneQuinn for put the whole snakes on a plane thing out there), Syroc for the level description. And everyone who helped playtest it gave feed back. wow, I sound like Im an accepting an oscar. I'll shut up now. Have fun folks.

I'll certainly be playing this one tomorrow. From what I've seen so far, it's gonna be groovy.

And by the way, wex, people keep telling me I'm quick at building - I think I can now pass this mantle on to you! I salute you! ;)

one of the three mystical gorgon,

Isn't the plural of "gorgon", "gorgons"? I'd like to stress that I'm asking this time, not telling - we all know waht happened before...

Anyhoo, I won't be playing today, just quit playing LBP for the night. I just hope it isn't as bad as all the rest of your levels :p

With regards to what MrsSpookyBuz says: you and I published levels around the same time, and I currently have some logic diagrams, some sketches and some prototype devices. And a sign. That's what i've produced in the same time you have made what is undoubtably an incredible level. I'm pretty sure this isn't fair.

What's the lag between uploading "or unlocking" a level and it appearing for other people to enter(?), because I'm not finding it.

Yeah, I've been viewing wex's "profile planet". Hmmm .... probably something I'm doing wrong, either that or technical hiccup I'm unaware of.

Search isn't working for new levels. You have to search the author, then select a level and view more by the author, and you should see it that way.

Anyway, I'm going to play this right away!

You're worse than Oasis the way you treat your fans! I dunno, you tempt them with snippets, gather them all on your planet, and then in your excitement about YET ANOTHER brill level, you leave us all outside in the cold!

If this level is more than 4 seconds long then there must be more than one Wexfordian working on these levels. You published that series, when? Yesterday?

Sounds great though. I'll definitely check it out tomorrow.

The thing that really, truly shines about this level is the background work. It's absolutely fantastic. Great job.

Not really helpful feedback I know, but has to be said.

So right off the bat, I could tell this was going to bee a great level. There was some great lighting going on, the checkpoint showed a theme and consistency already emerging, and the heavy use of the History Pack and the corner editing tool on the landscape looked fantastic. I'm not going to give anything away, but I loved how there were a bunch of hidden point stores, though I'm not sure if I got all of them. There was a simple mix of basic puzzles and platforming, and it all felt smooth and fluid, partly due to a great use of all three main layers.

The first set of obstacles, the flaming logs, were actually pretty tough. The second platform was impossible to stay on because the logs flew very close to it on either side. It took a bit of timing and trial-and-error to get through that part on my first run-through. All of the puzzle/platforming sections were fairly well-balanced and had a nice difficulty to them, though I didn't even realize the platforms disappeared until I stopped for a second to answer the phone! :)

I really enjoyed the puzzle that involved mechanically lifting the hatch to the step, it was new and fresh. It was strange though because the first time I went through, I didn't even realize that was there and I somehow climbed over the top of the piece holding the hanging sponge and grabbed it from there, completely bypassing that whole puzzle. I couldn't replicate it my second time through though, so I have no idea how it happened.

The use of background glitch to make clouds, stars, and a castle was nice, but not totally necessary. I'm glad you didn't name the level "Snakes on a Dame IN 3D!!!". :p
It did look nice and subtle and add to the whole air of the level, so I have nothing against its use there.

Medusa looked great, even though she was very easy to kill. I would ease up on the electric balls because, for me at least, the game slowed down pretty noticeably right here. At one point, I accidentally dropped the ax and it took off four of the snake heads on the way down. :)

I did have ~7,000 points at one point, but I died two or three times later on and lost a bunch, sitting me at 2nd with 5,799. That won't last for long most likely, but I'll take it while I can.

Overall, fantastic level, no major gripes. :star::star::star::star::star: and a heart from me.

If you feel like F4F'ing, you can play my LittleBigMemory level, I'm trying to pull it back from obscurity because I will hopefully be releasing a major update, deleting the one I have up, and hoping to make a run on the Cool Pages. So it would be great to get any last feedback before I make the switch: http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=13198

Hey, I just played it and thought it was great, I loved the background! But I did have to restart when I jammed a small box in its spot. This is the part where you must put the small ball on a string into the holder, then make that go up, which opens a small hatch. In that hatch is the box which can get stuck. It's kind of hard to explain where it is, but hopefully you can figure it out!

Lovely stuff Wex, it looks as polished as a brass button, and plays really fluidly. Again, i like that you incorporate a lot of the natural physics in your platforming, makes it just that little bit more of a tactile (if thats the right word?) experience.

I reckon you've managed to hit a real sweet spot with this, it's bang-on for all kinds of players, nicely done!

As for the name, you can't say i didn't try. ; ) Best pick though, it made me chuckle. (well done jagrevi!)

Great 5 Star level. Only thing that irked me, might just be my preference, are the camera angles during the platforming just prior to the cogs. I don't know if you are hiding something and chose to do those close ups on purpose but it just seemed very unnatural to complete those jumps with those camera angles.

That is my only critique...as far as I'm concerned, perfect level.

I chacked it out just a few miniutes ago, and I've gotta say, it's really good!!

I liked how you used the 3D glitch for a background. Very creative! It actually felt like a real background, I didn't notice it until half-way through, lol. It was very fun, and I really enjoyed playing it. I loved the fun and creative contraptions, very well made! :)
I really enjoyed the scenery, it's very detailed. A great use of the history kit. The history music made me jealous. :P
There's only one thing I DIDN'T like about the level: the bells in the background got annoying after a while.
Another thing I think needs improving is the boss. It looks real nice and everything, but it's WAY too easy.

:star::star::star::star::star:
and a heart. :)

Nice! Just got back into town to find a nice new Wex level. Definately a lot of fun - although understated compared to some of your other recent levels... but then again, sometimes thats what we need.

Great classic platforming, a few nicely done puzzles - but the real gem here is the ending. All the way through I was thinking "why in the world did he call this snakes on a dame?". But, of course, I then saw the final boss.

The ending boss was so much fun, I kind of wanted more of this gameplay. Maybe.... "Snakes on a bunch of dames"!

Nice job!

4 times playing it again and I still love it. It's got an understated style which is just beautiful. Nice use of the 3D glitch with rock solid platforming. The boss is fantastic. Loved the sound effects.

btw - I think you may hold a record for getting a thread into the cool levels section. 7 hours flat. Nice :)

Well deserved. 5 stars & hearted. Always a good day when you roll out a shiny new level. :) Thanks Wex.

Beautiful scenery, nice platforming, and even the occational puzzle, this level did not fail to dissapoint. Another 5 stars and a heart, congratz wex, you've really earned it.

Very nice level

Visuals: Very good. Especially liked the custom made background as I could use one with a similar theme for one or two of my levels.
The materials you chose fit well together.
There is however one little thing that I didn't like that much and that is the block of blue gas just before you get to the outside section.

Sound: Very fitting main theme, though a little variation would have been nice even if it just a change in volume.
The ringing of the bells was a nice touch
Gameplay: Very good. Swinging, jumping, dragging are three things that should be in all levels.
Boss:Simple but effective. No fault here, unless you would want to complain about the difficulty, which was very low. But that's alright in my opinion.
Nitpicks:It should be gorgons in the description.... :p

Could you give me feedback on "A Journey"?

I played it yesterday and as usual it delivers quality.

As I told you yesterday, you always explore a different aspect of LBP in each level and take it to some next level.
In this case: using the 3d glitch to create a custom background and add overall atmosphere.
It looks really nice and I am amazed that it only took up 3 blocks of thermo.

The level doesn't do anything mindblowing in any way but offers great platforming dressed up in a really nicelooking jacket.

Nitpick of the day: The floating platforms with the close camera angles are not designed for multiplayer.

Awesome level with brilliant, yet simple, visuals oozing with atmosphere and great lighting.
and a one, a two, a you know what to do:

Hi i played it and here's my review:

Pros-
1) Amazing background! How do u use flames and lights with the layer glitch???
2) The materials you used really went well together.
3) Some fun, original and puzzling challenges.
4) Good use of the history kit.

Cons-
1) Althought the materials u used looked good, i thought maybe they could be changed once in a while just to add a lil variation.
2) The boss was a bit of a let down... i thought it was a bit too easy. The one time i did get caught by the burning material i just dropped my jetpack, fell to the ground and waited on the electric stuff to come down and hit me (i was at the right and couldn't be bothered to dodge it all getting back to the jet pack). I would have it electric (instead of fire) on her hair, so that if u do get caught then at least u immediately respawn.
3) There was a big block of blue gas visible (half way through the level) and it looked very out of place.
4) The stars you made for the background are placed in dissolve material (i could tell du to the green tinge it had. If u used WALLPAPER instead i think it wouldn't show this.

Overall 4 stars, not ur best... but still awesome.

For f4f could you try my Whichever Way the Wind Blows- Gold. It uses the history kit too! TY.

wow, firstly thank you for such a detailed feedback. I'll be sure you leave you feedback on yours. I think i fexed that area you were talking pretty early on so that you couldn't skip it so maybe thats why you couldn't replicate it.

As for the boss, I know I promised never to make another boss but I just couldn't help myself :) i'll look into sprucing her up a little and making a bit more difficult.

But I did have to restart when I jammed a small box in its spot.
mnnn... I'll have to tweak this part some more. thanks for letting me know

Thanks Julesy, You title cracked me up when I read and it was a tough call between the two. To be honest, the only thing that swung it was when I thought about mentioneng my level in feedback for other F4F levels. I don't know how many times I could write "If your up for giving feedback, check out "My milksnakes Bring all the boys to the Yard" :) Actually, it still makes me smile. :)

Thank you, Im not hiding anything, I was just trying to do something a little different. The jumps themselves are very easy the real obstacle was meant to be the angle at which you were given. I might an the angle out a little more however to give the player some more breathing room.

OK! i found it and played it, its the best yet and it blew me away but i kinda felt like it was just one obstacle after another and it got alittle bland. i have a new level comeing up thats gunna be my first major level and this level really up stages it D:. oh well, anyway ide love an experts opinion on it when i finish up. do reply if you get the chance thnx! :star::star::star::star::star:

Thanks Cubbage,
I starteed this after the good the bad the sackboy 3 which hard a crazy amount of detail and work so I kinda felt like I needed to take a step back and smell the roses on this one. I was starting to feel a little burnt out thinking I had to break new ground on every new level. This was simply my medicine for that :) I didn't want to worry about complex logic or major detail. I just wanted to have fun.

thank you so much Morgana. Its funny, as I said to Cubbage this was really just to take a step back and make something that is just meant to be a few minutes of fun and not trrying to be anything more. I don't think you have to try and improve on each level you make, you can just end up frustated that way. So thank you for your nice comments. Im glad you enjoyed it.

Played this a minute ago and it's probably my favourite level of yours, because of the theme and gameplay. First thing i noticed was of course the background, I love how you changed it slightly to fit with the different sections of the level instead of just sticking to the same thing.

I didn't find any part of it overly challenging apart from like somone else said the second platform with the flaming logs where I lost a few lives. The boss was fun if not A tad too easy, but i can't really think how you could make it harder without it being too hard. 5 Stars and A heart anyway, top notch level as should be expected from you ;)

Well for me this is your best work. The background works superbly in that at no point did I try jumping on it before realising I couldn't.

The only issue I had was with the camera angle you chose for those platforms. To me that didn't work at all.

Anyhoo, 5 stars and hearted.

Hi Wex-

Think I'll keep this pretty short, as after thirty-some posts you probably got all the feedback you need... but here goes. I was blown away that you would be putting out another level already but your something else aren't you?

The look- was neat and clean without appearing set-out. At no time did I feel like I was on a predetermined path, there was a sense of adventure and I felt like the only hero who had ever traversed these obstacles before. And this is where you really shine Wex, the materials you use look as if they were meant to be together, the obstacles are never hard but require thought, and generally are unique to you alone. The background was very subtly done with a gentle hand... Simply, simply brilliant!

I didn't care for Medusa to be honest. It was cartoony for me and I've fought that same battle on LBP a dozen times or more, so that was disappointing. I also didn't care for the name of the level (I'm sorry I know that's a weird complaint... It is better than milksnakes though...) or I'm afraid the description... It seemed like it was written more for your amusement than my information. If it hadn't been your level I probably would have passed it by... sight unseen, it felt like a smug inside joke.

i died once by running into a broken off pillar right before Medusa battle... that didn't feel right for this level...

It is most assuredly a 5 star level and brilliant-- that's how much I enjoyed getting to Medusa.

Since I'm pretty sure you are all out of slots with all those quality levels- may I make two suggestions...

This first, I was going to try and start a new trend with... (but it wouldn't mean anything if I did it... but if you did?... innovation!)

Limited timed levels- as in play it now before it's gone! feeding frenzy ensues! To always have an available slot.

Two, your second 20 slots under the the user name 'Vex'fordian

Keep up the great work, and Thank You!

Another great level Wex. I may have joined you with having another one out so soon if it wasn't for the festival!

Great material choices and the background works really well. I like the style a lot, I think the reason I'm so fond of it is because it feels so at home and familar to me. I've used similar shapes and materials myself so maybe I'm a bit biased haha :)

Good solid platforming and puzzles as usual. I love the physics based nature to them.

However, there is a lot of them that feel quite similar to stuff in part 1 of your series. As in the 'grab this sponge, it lowers down a platform that you can then jump off'. That kind of stuff. Now, to me, this isn't a problem in the slightest, it's varied enough not to feel repetitive and works well within the theme. But recently I've been getting comments that I myself have stuck to the same formula and same gameplay mechanics...so basically I'm pushing it all on to you as well! haha :) maybe try and mix it up a bit?

I think things like that are more evident when you pump levels out in quick succession like you have too.

Only nitpicks for me:
The blue gas that others have mentioned just seems really out of place.
The icon doesn't fit the theme. The first picture on your level is amazing, I'd use something like that.

The level was pretty good, heres some feedback.

+The Background looks AMAZING! This is what the 3D glitch should be used for! I was thinking for a while "I don't have this background...do I?" :p
-The icon doesn't go with the level at all..
-There was one part where you have to take a sponge and put it in a place then grab something at it lifts the sponge and opens a door then you have to pull out a square sponge so you can jump on it and grab something else, I managed to get the square sponge stuck on the door lol. I didn't have to restart but I had to move the sponge around for a while. Is it possible to make it a bit smaller?

Still gave it 5 stars because of the looks, the background and the gameplay and you are one of the few authors I have hearted. Keep them coming!

Oh this was pretty darn good. In particular I liked the inovative physical puzzles, move these objects to the right place so you can cantinue. Very nice - required a little bit of thought, mostly because they are a little different, but won't stump anyone for long.

I had two suggestions from my first time playing:

1. Better combos, there are a lot of points around, but not many combos you can get really string together that well, just little groups of 5s just too far apart to chain them together (it is possible - I just wasn't trying hard enough enough :p).

2. Combos for the Boss: If you get a really good swing going with the axe you can take out like 3 snakes at a time. Connect those switches up to a few brains and the boss would be way more fun :)

Great work though!

wow, firstly thank you for such a detailed feedback.

No problem, I enjoy leaving detailed feedback. I have a question though. Why did you thank everyone else in this thread, except me? I don't particularly care, but I was just wondering. :)

Also, you might want to change your "Last level created:" section in your sig. ;)

2. Combos for the Boss: If you get a really good swing going with the axe you can take out like 3 snakes at a time. Connect those switches up to a few brains and the boss would be way more fun :)

That's a good idea, but the player would still have to swipe five heads at once to get the combo, which I think would be pretty near impossible, unless he put two brains on each, in which case you would only need to hit three heads. :)

Haha review time!

Visuals: Very well done, original, clean and topped with a great background! Superb lighting and environments although, as mentioned before, blue gas was a bit of a visual breaker. I'm glad you made the three main layers seperate from the background... people tend to make them together which can really irritate me as i try to go on non-existing layers. Nice choice of materials as well. I've never seen them used so... cleverly... except in jackofcourse's levels.

Audio: I liked the music choice for the most part. It set the mood and fit the level very well. Bells part was great.

Gameplay: I thought the gameplay was a great part of the level (which it should be) and it was mostly original and creative. Some parts resembled many levels such as disappearing platforms but that would be all. The rest of the gameplay was fresh and exciting, especially the part where you must hold sponges to adjust the level of the swings. CLEVER.

Overall this level is an obvious must-play and I gave it 5 stars and hearted it! I don't heart many levels so be thankful! :p

I was thinking like 4 brains on each:
200pts individually
800pts in pairs
1800pts for 3
3200pts for 4

I think that's right. Obviously that would skew the points totally towards the bossfight, but that's where suggestion #1 comes in. Also it would be kinda cool, because first time round, most wouldn't click that throwing the axe would get them loads of points.

I'm assuming we're talking about triggered "dark-matter block with brains" off-screen (or something to that effect) for points as opposed to actually putting brains all over Medusa.

Wow, now that was an awesome level!

Not really much to say because everyone else has covered it all. I really liked the extra pathways. I didn't encounter any glitches, although, there was quite a bit of slow-down, and I was playing by myself! But that's not your fault. The level looks great, plays great, and definitely deserves the 5 :star: average it's getting. Not sure I like the title as it threw me off a bit. The only reason I tried this level is because so many other people thought it was great. And I'm glad I decided to give it a go!

Great job!

That would add almost 50% to the total score, essentially making or breaking your spot on the scoreboard if that is what you care about. Maybe two brains is what I would think, making it more about skill and having it act as a point bump for skilled players, rather than a deciding factor. Almost like a super point stash that requires more skill to find. :)

Hey there wexfordian : )
Gee... you upload this level, what, 1 day ago and everyone's on it like flies on a... okay, maybe not the most appropriate analogy, but, you're obviously a bit of a celebrity ; ) I feel like I'm asking for an autograph just writing on here.

Anyhow, here is my feedback on your excellent level -
Visually, the 'set design' was beautiful, great lighting and the background created the feeling of playing in a large underground cavern which I particularly liked. Very Tomb Raider. I didn't think it had as much visual variety as some of your other levels, but it wasn't a major issue - didn't detract for me. Nice amount of hidden areas for point collection.

The general gameplay was inventive and smoothly executed, as always. Those fiery logs were a pain in the rear as the trajectory was very low over the middle podium... I'm assuming that was intentional. if not, could do with some widening. I figured out the pattern reasonably quickly... the second and third time I played it! : )

Medusa was terrific, although perhaps a bit too pretty *lol*. I thought it was a bit too easy to slice off her snake heads, but the chance to wield an axe was extremely satisfying for some reason : ) My biggest gripe about this area was that the camera didn't allow me to properly see the snakes I was severing. Because you had to remain a certain distance above her to avoid the snakes, you missed all the action below. Can you zoom out? the action of dropping the axe is so simple it doesn't require a detailed view, in my opinion. The electrified venom stream or whatever those things were was good.
It felt like it was all over very quickly, but while it lasted, i thoroughly enjoyed it. 5 stars & heart.

Now, I realise this is F4F, and although I'd love you to take a look at my levels, I hereby release you from that expectation. Your time's much better spent creating than wading through the backlog of all the levels of respondees here.
Cheers!

5 stars as expected, blablabla, heart...blablabla, shall I continue?

Yes I will.

Wonderful visuals, wise use of the layer glitch, amazing platforming and simple mechanical puzzles.
I didn't enjoyed Medusa perhaps...I found her quite out of place...too big...to green and too cold colourwise regarding the warm feeling of the level.
That's just my impression that perhaps didn't mess at all my enjoyment of the level.
That's just nitpicking, so don't bother about it.

Keep up the wonderful work and the whip the elves every day! :p

Wex, you've gotten all the feedback you need by now no doubt. You've also fixed things up because it was flawless when I played it, unless you make levels with no bugs straight off, which I can believe ;). Reminded me of a jackofcourse level, which is no bad thing obviously.

Top quality stuff, I think you've knocked out four levels in the time its taken me to do one (that STILL is'nt finished) :D

Thats all then, its excellent, *****, brilliant and hearted.

I really like the idea of adding points to the medusa. Will be putting that in tonight (So anyone with the high score sorry its about to be wiped). Im also going to look into making better scoring combos.

I just wanted to say one thing though, a few people have said it reminds them of jackofcourses levels. I really hope that it doesn't come across like I am trying to copy him. I love his levels and really like the style of them so I would be naturally influenced by them to a certain degree but the last thing on my mind is wanting to copy someone elses level.

Its funny, I never saw this level as a "real" level. It was more something to keep me busy while I came up with my next "big" idea. I wanted to keep everything very simple as not to burn me out. I had gone a little doolally with all the detail that went into my last trilogy so this was just the therapy I needed to move on :) Turns out to be my highest rated level I have created so far. go figure ????

Edit: On a side note... this is my first level that i didn't keep republishing for playsI wonder by avoiding the people who prey on the newest level section and low rate to spite people was this the reason it has done better than the other ones. I noticed soon after publishing once or twice with minor fixes that I would get "rubbish" and "lousy" tags straight after. By keeping my republishing down, it avoided getting too many of these nasty people playing my level.

just something to think about guys...

MrsSpookyBuz

I played this last night.

NOTE: I totally take on board your comments, wex, about this being an 'in-between' therapy level.

Having said this, it was a solid, good-looking, no-nonsense level that had some good platforming areas and was enjoyable. There was nothing I didn't like, but my own expectations of you as a creator weren't raised (see NOTE!). Perhaps knowing that this was a filler should have lessened my expectations.

I'm sure people who are saying that it reminded them of a jackofcourse level are saying it as a compliment, though I don't share their opinion. I thought it had an identity of its own.

Some of this may seem negative, and I hope you know me enough to know that I'm being honest. Compared to 95% of other levels, it's brilliant and I enjoyed it immensely. But here's the rub - this currently being your highest rated level confirms what a lot of us think about this ratings system. Media Molecule's Next Level Pack and The Good, The Bad... (Episode 3), both at 4 stars? And this currently at 5 stars? I can't fathom it.

Hey Wex, you already know I loved your level and I guess everything is pretty much said here, so I will spare you my detailed comments... I just wanted to go into your side note a bit (sry if it's too much off topic)...

That could very well be a reason for the lower ranked levels... like I can't understand out of your trilogy not one level's got a 5-star rating. It makes sense that ppl who willingly play a level to exit it straight away and give it a negative tag to make their own crappy levels look better, will keep doing so if they see your level pop up on the first page every hour or so. At least I've noticed from my own experience on my latest level that it already had tags like "rubbish" and "empty" after just 10 plays or so... I doubt it will have done better if those pitiful ppl hadn't meddled with it, but it just struck me as pretty unusual (I mean to each is own, but I can't really admit to the fact my level is empty... or at least my thermo thought so :) )

Maybe it also has to do with the moment of publishing. Which day of the week, hour of the day etc... Maybe that is strechting the imagination a bit, but it's just sad there are ppl out there who feel the need to flame someone's level like that.
I pity the fools! ;)

Thank you, and you know me long enough to know that I apreciate straight talking :) I completely agree with everything you said. Its funny this level has actually made me feel worse about my other levels. By that I mean, I put everything into those things. Then a level I wasn't even sure whether Id even bother publishing or not gets a better rating.... its just a little disappointing when looking at the game as a whole. Now Im determined to look at this as a positive. Its pretty high up in the highest rated pages and this will lead to people playing the levels that I love so much.

And don't worry, I havn't lost my edge Mrs Spookybuz, after my little "R&R level" has its 7 days I already have a pretty epic level in mind that will not only raise the bar but kick the **** thing into orbit......hopefully ;)

Hey, Im the king of "off-topic" conversation so in my thread you can talk about whatever tickles your pickle!

I definitely think the way I went about publishing this level has helped with the rating. I published it locked, sent out keys to a few friends that were online at the time. Played it myself on my other psn account. Set up a thread here and unlocked it. The only time i published it after was to fix a few things that was mentioned here.

Just have to throw in a thought on the ratings
:D

The LBP players are probably 70% kids, and ratings are not about quality - they are about how you made those 70% FEEL as they finish their experience. Jwwphotos, Mother-Misty, myself, and many others already realize it....

We're creating subtext in a world which prefers SpongeBob Squarepants!
:D

But.... without subtext some of us wouldn't stick around.... although I sometimes also prefer SpongeBob.

Awesome game, though.... and I'm gonna give it another shot as soon as I get points for killing snakes. The only problem is..... maybe a short cut so I can skip directly to killing snakes? It's very satisfying.

Um, I've retracted my statement about combos, there's plenty to be had. I just wasn't trying hard enough to get them it seems. There were a couple of sections where turning around or long jumps broke the combo, but again, that could still be possible to get the full chain, I'm not sure yet. Either way, I think the combos are fine.

Also - I didn't even spot that there were secrets when I played the first time lol.

The using of the 3D glitch to create your own background was just... genius! (I hope this doesn't become normative. I had enough working on 3 layers )
Great platforms, atmosphere, lighting (sometimes it becomes a bit laggy?).
Final boss: glorious. A bit too easy?: bah!. If you are going to update the level, I'd add sound when it gets killed.

Mine's definitely beatable because the run I picked up that score I forgot to nab one of the hidden points caches, so actually, yeah, I am kind of nervous you'll topple me if you keep trying.

Perhaps I should try and reinforce myself by trying to get a higher score ... although I've tried that before and I can't seem to do one part that well anymore.

Excellent level! It's looks and plays beautifully! I loved the use of materials and thought the custom background was outstanding. I really enjoyed all the obstacles, but I especially like the ones that I had to position myself. You did this in The Good, the Bad, and the Sackboy and it's a really creative way to add puzzles that create new platforming obstacles.

It's a great level and I really can't think of any criticisms that haven't already been addressed. Well done!

Great mix of fun, platforming, and a little puzzle. The boss was great as well - it really felt great each time you sliced off a tentacle - great use of sound effects!

Haha, good point. But that said, it would be nice if it was
a) more accessible
b) more refined (ability to put decorations and such on it without going through a million stages of emitters, correcting stuff breaking, etc)

But yeah, it could go both ways :)

That's the beauty of it. You take a level which is quite low difficulty then encourage people to sprint through, giving a challenge to those who would normally find it too easy :)

BTW I won't really be going after the top spot, I saw cuzface post a pretty nifty score last night and TBH

The custom 3-d background was very well done (although I hope it does not become the creators norm because I find it very hard to work with). I loved how you set up the point bubbles, they had me mad-dashing across that jumping section trying to keep my multiplier as high as it could (I am currently ranked 15th right in front of you!!!).

I stumbled over this wonderful level yesterday and I played it several times right now.

All I have to say isn't new, but I just have to say it again :p

Pro:

- Outstanding usage of background layers (is that the 50layer glitch? I never saw a creator using it that way: to create his own unique level-theme) - that's awesome!!!

- wonderful lightning, I've been sucked in to this "1000 and 1 night" kinda atmosphere.

- great choice of materials and awesome architecture - the level looks "so right", I've seen no area which doesn't fits into the level's story. Everything looks like it just HAS to be there!!

- georgous puzzles - there are some really new gameplay elements: and that's the key to a brilliant level

- nice plattforming elements which gives the player a bit more motivation to go for a higher score - I love that

- sparse usage of deco!!! In my view, lot's of level are decorated to their limits - I don't like this very much, because it looks a bit too overloaded to me. For my taste, your balancing of deco-usage is brilliant.

- last but not least: fun-factor: I can't remeber a level, where I've been sitting in front of my tv, smiling (!!!) nearly all of time that I need to get to the end of the level. That's just amazing - and well: I have to say it: THANK YOU FOR THAT EXPERIENCE!!!!

Cons:

- boss-fight is very easy (but I found myself floating around for some time before bring the hammer down because I didn't want to kill this beauty in a few seconds *gg*)

- in my view the part where you have to swing at the clouds is a hard cut in the levels gameplay - leaving the first section and walking through the sky was a bit odd to me. Perhaps it would be a great option to use the (hopefully) soon to be released water-tool, so players can swim through some sort of water ditch, that's surrounding a moated castle. I think this would elevate the level's gameplay even more.

After all, this level is one of the finest level ever released. AMEN!!! :star::star::star::star::star:(:star:) (this is level needs more than 5 - that's for sure)

Great work, Wex!!! And thanks for sharing this jewel with us.... !! :p

Very disappointed to see this level on page one of the cool levels with only a 4 star rating. Just goes to show how spiteful these cool page fiends can be. We can always just blame it on the growing nuisance that is russelmuscles. :p

Ironically, sometimes it's better to try and stay off of the Cool Pages. Though I guess it is better for Wexfordian because he gets the exposure that he deserves.

I think we can effectively blame every single bad thing that has happened in the recent past on russelsmuscles. ;)

Hi guys, thanks for all the comments. I've been away for the last 5 days on holidays so had no idea that this had happened. Oh well, we all know the rating system is driven by a load of imature people who get a little over zealous when they see someone else actually doing well. I've given up on the rating system. All that really matters is that I like my levels first and formost. Then, when that is done, I hope all my friends from here have some fun on them also. It appears you guys like it. I like it. Im happy. Simple :)

Russlesmussles and Co. can go play all H4H levels they want. I'll stick around here for some more awesome levels from you guys.

On the part where the flaming logs jump out of the pits, the log that goes out one pit and into another hits off the ceiling and falls in a random direction making it really hard to dodge.

Do you mean at the beginning? There's no random there - it goes the same every time. If you watch the pattern you can quite happily dart through and get all the points in a 4x combo.

Yup, exactly - I can get every bubble across those jumps virtually every time. Time the first jump properly, and you can jump through the whole section without stopping.

I'm not going to needlessly spam what everyone else has said, plus I played your level without seeing this thread.

But I DO hate it when levels start to chug. By that I mean fps drop.

I do not like that one bit. Your level is near perfect but it's a shame to have this little blot.

Fix it please :) :star::star::star::star:

You may have your bonus star once it's done :D

Long time no see, LBPC.

So, just yesterday I came back from the beach house, wich means that I get to touch again my ps3. Wich means that I get to play LBP again, wich means that I feel the need to play some levels from the community.

You see, it normally takes like 10 levels 'till I find the gem, the pearl, the last dodo alive (or that's how I like to call them). What I'm refering to? Well, I'm refering to a very really good levels. It was yours.

But before, let me congratulate you for changing my mind about the 50 layers glitch; now I kinda like it, taking account the good use you made of it. At first, I thought that it was the new background, the one that comes with the history pack.

All in all, I loved the level, and I won't give you constructive feedback because I can't think of anything that looked bad or whatever. So, what I liked the most is:

-The looks. You seem to know that sometimes, less it's more, a concept in wich I fully agree.
-The gameplay. Simple mechanics -a sponge rope-attached to a platform- but incredibly fun.
-The pacing. There was no place where I felt bored.
-The tittle. Hehe, snakes on a dame. You'd be scared about how many creepy things came to my mind when I read that tittle.

More or less, this was everything I needed to say "Keep making kick-*** levels, Wex!"

Hey Wex, I thought sure I had already posted on this one! Sometimes I multitask a bit too much and don't get the submit button pushed!

First off, this was a masterful work of art. Like a stately museum where you have to stay behind the fabric ropes and everyone talks in hushed and respectful voices. Absolutely stunning..

The game play was awesome and really enjoyed the puzzles. Arguably the first ones were a bit of a repeat of sorts from GBU 1, but loved the new twists on the string pull pieces regardless.

The only thing I saw a bit out of sorts was some visible dark matter on the windmill sized grab wheel things. I also thought the one cool vignette where I think you pull the slide to descend could have had an extra secret hidden somewhere above as it was a pretty huge area. ..or maybe it did and I missed it! Those are horribly small nitpicks, but if I had one major one it would be what some others have also mentioned. Not so sure the badge fit the level. While it was a cool looking easy to spot badge and exactly what you want, it was sort of like having the old classic version of Romeo and Juliet in the box of the Leonardo DiCaprio version.

:star::star::star::star::star: and easily earned a heart. You had that at the opening portal. ;)

I finally got through this level without my Playstation crashing horribly halfway through. Took one of my friends along for the ride and we both loved it! Especially the boss fight!

I sorta liked the part where you had to dodge the flaming things shooting out of the pit. it feels very perilous, but if you're careful, it's really not that bad. ^_^

Played this last night with mrsvista and thought it was absolutely brilliant!

The visuals are stunning and the whole level is very cleverly constructed. We had a great time, thankyou wex.

I've played so many awesome level right now and of course there are so many awesome creators out there - but Snakes On A Dame is still my top-choice if I have to choose my most-favorite level.

If I would be send to an island with just a ps3 and one LBP-Level, this one gets my vote :)

And now I was able to get into the top 10 (6th place) - time for some party ! :-)))

I really hope that there will be a second or even a third part of that level (like you, wex, said in your introduction: "...one of the three gorgons"... - well, two are still missing right? :-)
