I'm going to see him live tomorrow. He is the best guitarist ever. His new albums are all mind-blowingly awesome.

YouTube - Buckethead-Lebron (NEW ALBUM!)
YouTube - Buckethead-Separate Sky-A Real Diamond in the Rough
YouTube - Buckethead - Trunk Of The Tree - Forensic Follies

A Real Diamond in the Rough is obviously my favorite one, I like his more mellow stuff, but he is the best ever.

Best ever? I don't know about that one, dude...

What are the criteria that define "best ever" anyway?

your lucky dude. i too love buckethead. i give him mad respect and in my mind he's the most talented guitarist out there as well

EDIT: Best one ever is deffinitley subjective to everyone's taste in music. I love a wide variety of rock and I rate him #1 for skill because he can shred, make it sound cool. But doesnt have to shred all the time like some people (see Herman Lee (who is a failboat imo. I heard when they record theyre albums he plays the solo like 10x and they peice it together because he cant play his own stuff flawlessly.))

You sure its actually him? Could be some other guy in a wig with a bucket on his head. Although you'd be able to tell if it was him as soon as he starts playing. :)

Don't get me wrong, he's good. but so is (as you mentioned) Corey Beaulieu, Slash, Vai, Satriani, Matt Tuck, Padge, hetfield (who's rhythm playing is second to none) Jimmy Page etc. etc.

You are so lucky!!
I too consider Buckethead to be amazing, but the best of the best?
Maybe. There may be some unknown guy out there waiting for his time to shine.....JKS. :p

And Hendrix! Why is everyone forgetting about the Ebony God of The Guitar!?

Never heard of him. Skimming through the videos though he definitely has some pure talent, but I can't really listen to music that has no vocals.

How can you be a good rythm guitarist? I would say that Dave Mustaine is a much better rhythm guitarist. We all know that singing and playing guitar is hard, but a lot of Metallica songs take the easy way out and have the rhythm pretty much match how the lyrics go. Again, not all Metallica songs do this, but a lot do.

To me, Jimmy Page is a mediocre guitarist. I like and listen to Led Zeppelin, but Page's solos weren't particularly original. I've never listened to BFMV, and I've only heard one Trivium song, who I think would be good if they got rid of their singer and just wrote less corny lyrics, then again the one song I listened to was Anthem.

Anyway, those two paragraphs were kind of pointless, but the reason I like Buckethead is his creativity. He constantly changes from crazy abstract songs and epic shredding to slow, atmospheric ballads. He goes places other musicians ignore. He is a master at expressing emotions through songs.

The problem I have with most metal bands is that they're all about straight-forward rock. Not enough bands focus on emotion and atmosphere.

You listened to a song of The Crusade? lolz. That album was fail :D

And being a good rhythm guitarist is possible... To suggest that the only guitarist in a band that can be good is the lead is just stupid....

BFMV:

YouTube - [NEW]Bullet for my Valentine - Waking the demon

YouTube - Bullet for my Valentine - Say goodnight (high quality) + Lyrics

Proper Trivium:

YouTube - Trivium - Into The Mouth Of Hell We March *with lyrics*

YouTube - Trivium-Ember to Inferno

But yeah, The Crusade was trivium's 3rd album. And it was **** lol, as anyone who listens to them will tell you. I like one song off that album :D

Usually, if the rhythm guitarist is good, then it's double lead.

James Hetfield isn't good. Metallica's lead guitarist is no good, I doubt James is any better.

Izzy Stradlin (Old GN'R's rhythm guitarist) wrote most of the GN'R songs, sung in a load of them, and he often matched Slash's technique and tone.

That's pretty good i think.

That's not true though. A rhythm guitarist doesn't have to be playing a harmony for the lead to be a good rhythm player. A good rhythm guitarist may make the lead look better, but without a good rhythm, a good solo is nothing.

Not for Buckethead! :p

Anyone who can play guitar can play rhythm. Especially Metallica's rhythm parts. Megadeth, on the other hand. :D

So...keeping time is only important, and harder, while playing rhythm? That's what the video implied.

Anyone can play lead. Doesn't mean they can do it well. A song isn't about a solo.

Yes, and Buckethead doesn't put a solo in all of his songs. As a matter of fact, I like Whitewash when he doesn't put in the solo.

Well if you want to go and play lead, and tell all the Rhythm players to **** off because they are clearly ****, just because they have no skill, then feel free to do so. but it will sound ****. Rhythm players are an integral part of any band, as are the drummers and bassists. just Because YOU think they have no skill, doesn't mean you are right.

I couldn't give a **** if you can shred like Vai or Satriani or whoever, you need a good rhythm. And a bad rhythm player or no rhythm player will make the lead sound worse, which in turn brings down the whole song.

I don't remember saying anything like that. I remember saying I hate James Hetfield sucks and Buckethead is cool, but not that rhythm players are clearly **** and need to **** off.

Anyway I only have to wait 2 more hours.

Yes, exact timing can completely change a song's feel. Plus, total guitar say that Hetfield is the best rhythim guitarist in the world wich makes it sound like you're saying all rhythm guitarists are crap.

EDIT: BTW, I would say I prefer playing rhythm guitar too.

You will learn eventually, especially when you play with bands etc. That the rhythm section is unbelievably important with regards to the lead playing. If you don't have a good rhythm section, then the solo could be the greatest thing ever, it will sound bad.

Of course a rhythm section is important. If a song has a solo in it, it's usually supposed to swell up into that solo. A chord is a lot more powerful than a note, so if you don't have any kind of chords or rhythm behind your solo it will sound weak, but James Hetfield isn't the best. Dave Mustaine is better. :p

BUCKET HEAD IS GOOD I LIKE BUCKETHEAD!

Ok, so you don't like Hetfield. Doesn't detract from the fact that many think he is the best.

And hatred of hetfield is no reason to say that Rhythm Guiatrists in general suck

I know. That's why I never said that.

Anyway, Buckethead is truely amazing. He's someone you have to see live to really appreciate. He's incredibly talented, an awesome song writer, and hilarious. He would be playing incredible solos with one hand and holding a Colonel Sanders mask in front of his face with the other. He also put a bucket from the crowd on his head. He's awesome. :p

Some ****** bags tried to start a mosh pit during Jordan, though. Idiots.

What was surprising, though, was who was opening for Buckethead. His name was Wolff, and he played a genre he called Drums n Tuba, I guess a play on Drum n Bass, and he's incredible. Look him up.
