Wrning! Spoilers! I made this thread this discuss the movie 9. For those who haven't seen it, at least watch this trailer before you leave. Breathtaking visuals, enchanting animation, and phenomenal storyline is what to expect.

But whatever you do, don't compare this to little big planet. It drives me crazy. They're completely different. This movie is very original.

For starters, did you like the movie or not???

I for one loved it, but the parts that annoyed me were just too overwhelminly stupid to be ignored. The movie was a bit short, and they just rushed into the plot, which drove me crazy. The act like they've known each other forever at times, and another thing, why when the people die do they barely give a care!?!?

Also, they was very poor characyerization. Sure, some of them looked and sounded different, but too many characters were constantly introduced and for the most part, for the first half of the movie I was almost too focused on trying to figure out the different characters than to be able to enjoy the movie.

Also, do you think that adding people to the movie helped ruin it? To me, they looked too skinny and animated which almost ruined the years of work put into the beautiful realism of the environment.

And lastly, I hated the ending!!!! It was a bit touching, but left a huge empty hole in my gut. Half the characters who died we barely got to know, like 2, who seemed to have a great personality, and 6, who was so cooky and eerie that I loved him from the start. And propably worSt of all, the twins have to live!?!? they seemed completely like background characters....

All in all, great movie, but I know I'm not alone on what I think of its faults. Dozens of movie websites give it C's and B's because of the giant holes in the story and movie that can't be overlooked. But I just want to ask you, what do the people of lbpc think? I for one think that if the conclusion was more creative, and some of the problems I mentioned were resolved, the movie would be perfect.

I enjoyed the movie, but it pales in comparison to the original short film. Definitely watch that if you can. The short film simply works a lot better. Sadly, it seems that 9 just didn't make a good transition to feature film.

Part of what made the original so compelling was what it didn't tell you. No one talked, and there was no origin story.

I knew there was an original, but do you know if there's anywhere I can watch it? your post makes me curious... but you didn't answer any of my polls :( I worked hard on this rant lol because im a slow typer and bad at getting the words out of my mouth the way i want them too....

Catus: what you said is exactly what I expected.
I saw the short film first, then saw the trailer for the movie... and just cringed. The americanized voice acting just seemed completely unnecessary and really spoiled the atmosphere.
Tim Burton is getting on my nerves of late.

I don't know how much Tim Burton really had to do with influencing this movie. I know he was a mentor to Acker, but more than anything I think this really genuinely was Shane Acker's movie.

My biggest gripe here is that this movie is completely wasting its opportunity to be a huge, progressive step forward as an animated CG film. kudos to them that it's not about talking hamsters. That it's not afraid to be frightening and somewhat dark.

But aside from that, this ended up being SUCH a run-of-the-mill story. As mentioned above, it sort of rushes through the story, it's a point-by-point action-adventure flick, with some really, really played out cliches. Like when 7 shows up for the first time. My eyes rolled so hard it hurt.

This movie really made me realize how few original stories there really are in the movies. 9, for its moments of originality and interesting visuals, is a movie I feel I've seen a million and a half times. I was no big fan of it.

That 'centipede' monster was awesome though.

Another major thing i forgot to rant about, it was sooooo dumb that they tried to bring people and war into the movie to try to seem possible and realistic even though some guy who somehow survived bombs and machines gave his soul to intricate rag-dolls who have their souls sucked by a giant machine that makes other machine and survives many mortars and even a huge barrel of gasoline, lol........

Anyway, I agree with you completely - And also, was it SO hard for the revolutionary army to take out "the machine", when a couple of freaking rag-dolls were able to do it? When a single drum of fuel lit up the entire robot facility??

Tons of very ridiculous, very hard-to-swallow twists in logic and holes in this movie. it's a shame, I don't really think the script was particularly scrutinized by the filmmakers.

I haven't seen the movie yet, but I absolutely love this song. Every time I hear it I feel like I've heard it before (especially the part with the "ohhhh"). I know it's Coheed and Cambria preforming it, but is it their original song or a remake?

Its edited with where the parts of the song are. The sitched them around to go with the trailer, but other than that, its the same song. (But they also took away the lyrics, thank God.) :p

Watched this on Sunday and loved it! Reminded me a lot about LBP but that's not why I liked it. I guess I liked it just because it comes from Tim Burton & co.

I thought this movie didn't come from Tim Burton... well, at first I heard that but then someone said the director was a random dude who was inspired by Tim? Anyone care to elaborate? Thanks.

Although the artwork and feel of the movie might have been Burton-ish, I felt the movie wasn't HALF as good as his other work. The plot was rushed, the characters lacked depth and there were far too many other flaws to say.

I seen the movie the night it came out and thought it was just utterly amazing. It reminded me as well of LBP, which is a good thing cuz they are both great. My background on my pc is an awesome pic from 9. If you have not seen it yet, I recommend that you check it out cuz it will blow you away....;)

All I've heard from it is disappointment.

I'd recommend seeing Fantastic Mr Fox instead. Best stop motion film in a LONG time. Wes Andersons style of cinema really translated perfectly to stop motion.

I thought there were some big problems with pacing.

It's felt like about 10 minutes in and you haven't even gotten to know the characters and they're already going against the antagonist.
Then it's not long after that and they're going against the main one. (trying my hardest not to give away any spoilers here xD)

Turns out the movie was only an hour long, they could of done so much more to fill the gaps :/

The only thing i really liked about it was the awesome robot designs :p

IT IS!

Thats exactly what I loved about it, its got this half crazy sense of humour in it... Lots of scenes end of awkward notes. But I loved it. It suited Roald Dahls original story, and it suited the stop motion style of it. Btw, they did an amazing job at animating fur... feels like a bunch of taxidermic animals coming to life.

Taxidermy alsways seemed creepy and cruel to me lol, but ya, as far as from a sneak peak I saw on TV, the animation does look pretty insane.
