View Full Version : How far do jet-packs stretch?

I've seen a few videos where they can go really far, and some where they are restricted to a certain area and fall off if you go too far. Can you adjust it's properties in the tweak menu? Because I've been thinking of incorporating them into giant space or underwater levels...

Probably if you have seen them different in different videos

If they're still like the old trailer they're on a chain which I assume you can set the length of.

If you need them for your whole level i just suggest you put multiple jet packs at certain distances so just as your about to reach the end of the distance of detachment you just fly through another. Obviously when you get the game you'll judge the distances you need to spread them out.
I personally don't remember any vids where a sackboy travels any considerable distance and i've seen probably every vid out there a million times lol
The vid where you have to stay alive as long as you can between the electrified obstacles just gives the impression of travelling far but you stay in the same area and the level is actually rolling from right to left
Anyway i wish you luck in your level creation and will play it when it's up and running :)

Yeah, jetpacks aren't so much full-level things as they are enablers for one puzzle area. Now, you could certainly do lots of jetpack-using puzzles in a row, but flying across a level isn't what they're supposed to be for, even if useful in some types of ways.
Also, remember that in Create mode you get a jetpack mode, where you can fly around and do stuff at will without any tether, toggled by pressing down on the D-pad.

Actually, in that video the level itself side-scrolls, and probably randomly generates, too. A minigame level. The chain itself stays in one place. Proof? Note the steady, even rate of speed, and that he never stops in place. Plus, look at the chain. Straight down.

Yeah, I see it now. The whole puzzle must be on wheels or attached to a piston or something. Thanks for pointing that out. Maybe I could put different jet packs at a set length apart.

I thought there weren't any underwater levels.
The people chatting in the video said so.

Alex Evans from MM talked about a under water level once that someone made using jet-packs to cleverly give the impression of swimming under water and obviously making the background look like water

I think you can probably just tweak the length in the menu like you said.. You might even be able to adjust the speed of the jetpack.. Who knows eh :)?

If you don't pin them down you can take them with you, also end up just flying over the entire level.
