I've noticed that large majority of the General Chat posting seems to be, although fun or entertaining, without actual benefit (except keeping off-topic and spam out of other forums). I was thinking that perhaps, since posting in General Chat doesn't have the same productivity as in other forums, then the LittleBigExperience gained should not apply for posting inside there. This is due to the fact that LittleBigExperience is to judge the usefulness of each member, and the usefulness of posting in General Chat does not equal the usefulness of posting in other forums. Alternatively, post count could be disabled for General Chat (since that's likely easier to accomplish).

I am all for this. I was actually going to suggest this sometime in the future.
And I don't just think the post count should be disabled there, everything should. The whole page is rated 5 stars, every thread has over 100 posts...
LBE points should be gotten through honest work, not by spamming.

I'm sure a lot of people are going to be ****** of by this, <_< since they look for the General Chat for free points.

Of course, because it's "General Chat". But you mostly see forum games, and people talking about nonsense <_< Like Mark said, "Without benefit"

the games have the benefit of being fun to read and play. a lot of the posts in lbp ideas are just saying "great idea" there isn't benifit in them. :)

How about we give forum games their own section, where posts do not add to Littlebigexperience.

I agree with this. There are always some people who ruin it for the rest. :(

The problem is that once in a while a thread with a point does come up there.
Sure, it's mostly filled up with forum games and whatnot, but sometimes people do ask relatively important questions in there that aren't seriously LBP related, and they usually get a beneficial reply.

Depriving these members of some sort of reward for being helpful is unfair, even if, chances are, they don't care for such a "reward" as LittleBigExperience.

Personally, I couldn't care less if you counted points from there or not, and the same goes for posts.
Why the heck do I want points?
To be respected? Pah!
To buy an Elite profile upgrade and spy on other users? Pah!

But then again, that last part is just me, so... >_>
Whatever...

I don't completely agree with this, but there is a valid point being brought up.
Problem comes in the execution.

And Code might have just given a good execution.
Why not give forum games their own section, withing the General Chat section (Posts won't count of course).

Forgot to mention that I'm also not a fan of fifty different sections... >_<

Ah, well... it's not like I post much in there anyway. xD

I completely agree. Partly for the fact that I was accused of making a game only for points. Im not interested in having loads of points for nothing.

Yes, there are things with good, real, constructive use in General Chat (aside from just "fun"), but the problem is that this is swamped with others.

To expand on Code's idea: Make a subdivision of General Chat. Call it "Randomly Spouted Nonsense". (Okay, seriously, a title could be something like "Anything You Want".) Then, it doesn't create more for the front page, but it still organizes at the same time. Plus, it'd be easier for any rogue topics that should be in there to be quickly shoved in the right place, since it's right there. And then disable everything gained from activity there.

Does "REACH 500 [GAME]" ring a bell? Seriously though, what was the point of that moleynator? What would anyone win if they got the 500th post?

I don't see why any of you care. Your concern is that others are unfairly getting points. So what. What's it to you. If anything, it seems as though you are bothered by others beating you in rank. That is the only reason I can think of. If that isn't it, then I honestly have no idea why it is that you are doing this.

Let me address the points you all brought up:

It doesn't seem fair that useless threads like "forum games" still give XP. It nulls the point of LittleBigExperience!
I can see the reasoning there, but the problem is, we can't make sure every useless thread isn't counted for XP. If we start doing that, we'll be getting requests left and right for us to "null" certain threads. Not to mention the fact that excluding a thread from XP is not possible.

Why don't you just make a separate forum for forum games?
Because, honestly, I'm trying to make sure this forum has enough room to expand once LittleBigPlanet arrives. Let me direct you to what happened last night, for example: we managed to have 277 users online at once, more than doubling our last record. That was just for the beta. When the full game releases, there's no telling how many users we'll have. Most of those users will want to post threads on many different subjects related to the game, so we have to add new forums for every general category. My point is, we don't want the forum getting too confusing. We're a forum focused soely on LittleBigPlanet, and we have to keep our focus there.

Why not make a subdivision of General Chat for the pointless threads?
Because that's the point of General Chat. It's for "non LittleBigPlanet Stuff", to keep everything unrelated to LittleBigPlanet in one place. It's meant to be a bit of a pointless forum. I don't want to rescind LittleBigExperience there, because sometimes useful topics do pop up.

LittleBigExperience is supposed to be another way to enjoy yourself here, and to show off your dedication through stickers and other items in the shop. It's not supposed to be taken so seriously. Above all, I want you guys to enjoy your time here as much as you can. :)

Well put. Now let's close this baby up and continue our fun, happy lives as members of the united LittleBigPlanetCentral community. :)

No, it's to prevent people from trying to "grind" XP, meaning that they do things without really contributing, just to get it. (That's the problem of any reward system.) And that's what this was all about.

*Snip!*

Okay. It was just a suggestion, after all.

Disclaimer: I don't mean any of this to sound big headed, this is also all sincere.

I can see your points Mark, but for me, the forum games have been a fun way of getting to know other members and their senses of humour a little better (I've had a fair few XP through there, though also some for having competed in contests and submitting my ideas and so on).

At the time of posting this, my post count is higher than yours. Don't think that makes me think I'm a better member, or a more useful member. It just means I've posted more times, it certainly doesn't mean that evey time I've had something more meaningful to say. (I like to think I am a worthwhile member around here that comes up with good suggestions from time to time, and occasionally a good entry in the competitions, but that doesn't mean that every post will be prophetic, some will be about how awesome I think whaaaaale's avatar is, and so on.)

But as I have said, I'm not grinding XP when I contribute to the General Chat section, I'm just having a nice get-to-know-you with some of the other members.

Now, I wouldn't mind if XP WAS taken out of the GC section, I'm not, in the end, ultimately bothered about my XP, I like it, it's a fun system, and gives me additional incentives to enter in contests and so on, but if it all went away, I'd still be on this board, posting useful things in the main section, and less useful things in GC.

As CC said, if we started saying, well, you can't have XP for this or that, where do you draw the line? Sometimes all people (myself included) say in the ideas thread is little more than "Good idea" because we want to be encouraging and support the idea, but it's not a valuable contribution to the site as such, but a nice pat on the back for the creator's idea.

I think there's more of a point against this then LBE: the fact that every ten posts gives us a free ticket to a lottery for LBP. The fact that we can essientally win a lottery there kind of makes a lot of stupid topics and so forth, in the hopes of raising one chances.

Yep.

Hey I think everyone has the chance to do the same thing as everyone else, it is not like it is only for a few people that can post on the games. I understand what you are saying but hey have some fun also and be apart of the forum games. Or create threads that you would like people to talk about, so it is not something where someone is getting a advantage over another, we all get same advantage. Let us all just enjoy the fun.
