Hey everyone-
We have a pretty good selection of PSP tutorials (http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?23719-%5BPSP%5D-Tutorial-Spotlight) so far, but we can always use more. I get a lot of questions from players about how I did some certain thing in a level, and I think the best way to answer those questions is - you guessed it - with tutorials. With that said...
What kinds of tutorials do you want? Post your requests here, and if I like your idea I'll make a tutorial about it. Easy!
Note: See a request posted here that you'd like to make a tutorial for? Go for it! I'm not a monopoly, and I'd be grateful for the help. ;)

I wish someone would make a tutorial on how to make tutorials :(. Joking. But seriously I'd love to see a tutorial on intros. I'm hopeless at making them...

So do you mean theatrical-type intros where Sackboy (or Sackgirl) is hidden from view, such as in jeffcu28's Zen, amazingflyingpoo's Now and Then, or one of my Star Bores levels?

Shameless plugs galore! Well, I can't think of anything really. A tut like that would be great though.

You betcha. :p And today's one-minute LBP lesson is: Market yourself! ;)

I haven't quite decided on the exact format of the tutorials I'll be making... I guess the answer is: "It depends". I'll probably go for simple pictures-in-a-post because those are relatively easy to put together, but in many cases an accompanying tutorial level would be very useful, such as yours ali or the vehicle how-to levels salieri put together.

Can I help make tutorials? I made a few on LBP PS3 (well not a few, but more like 17 of them... ya). :)

We'll just keep track of who is working on what and go from there. If you need screen captures of anything just let me know - you'll need to create a level first of course.
For starters I think I'm going to do an "automatic door" tutorial... I haven't decided on the name yet. I'll basically be describing how I made the doors in my Space Corps levels - something a surprising amount of people want to know.

Well, I'm working on a level that'll teach you about how to use switches (Mostly magnetic keys)
To make it better, it's also a level to play while you learn. :)
Although, right now I'm working on my contest entry, but this level, however, the intro was made. :)

Is there a tutorial/tips on minimizing slowdowns in levels? :)

Is there a tutorial/tips on minimizing slowdowns in levels? :)Good call. There's a tutorial level made by AceCreator, but it would be much more useful to have something here everyone can simply read.
Maybe we/I/someone can simply document that existing level? It's pretty well done and there's a lot of good information there, and the best part is that all the examples and illustrations are already built!

Don't they know you can just put a Sensor switch? That's like so easy. I can't believe they needed to ask you. :p
Noobs.

Well, yes, but there are a lot of nuances that are easy to miss, like offsetting the proximity switch so that the door operates one-way and adjusting the sound object so that it activates at the right time.

No, but I do suggest you use less items, materials, stickers, and points. Oh, and camera angles do play a role here.
Also, I found out that seperating things help a lot. So say you got a mechanism hidden in the background. Well, try not to make it to close with the other mechanism. Instead, try spacing them out. That helps stop the PSP from bugging out due to all the madness happening in one spot.
I hope this helps. :D

Ya, this is why we have that "Directional" option. This is explained in AceCreator's tutorial levels.
Also, the right timing for the noice can be made many ways. Magnetic Key Switches are one way. Although, Sensor switching it would be the easiest way.
So remember kitties, if you haven't been paying attention to LBP's Create Mode tutorials, then you're going to be clueless... and a noob. ;)

Basic Boss Making Tutorial. The do's and don'ts of making a boss
Ooh, me! I know I sometimes get lazy and end up doing small boss battles (my Scorpion King from my level "Sackboy Plays LBP PSP! V1.1" for example). But, I know I can make some big boss battles when I get a good night's sleep. ;)

A boss tutorial? I think you should mention that they'll need to learn a lot about switches. Unless it's a boss with only brains.

So remember kitties, if you haven't been paying attention to LBP's Create Mode tutorials, then you're going to be clueless... and a noob. ;)Not everyone has access to a PS3, and there is no rulebook I'm aware of that says you have to play the Logic Pack or AceCreator's levels before you are allowed to use Create Mode or ask a question here.
I know it seems almost inconceivable, but there was a time none of us knew any of this stuff. We all had to learn at some point, and it's easy to forget what it was like to not know how anything worked.
So, let's all be nice to the new folks - they might end up teaching us a trick or two at some point. :)

Actually, that's how I started out like.
I mean, I have a PS3, but I didn't pay much attention to the tutorials.
I didn't know Logic pack existed too.
I made good levels before I actually played PS3 again and found out about the Logic Pack.

I meant in the PSP. There's a couple of tutorial here and there in the game, and that's without going to AceCreator's profile.
But you do have a point. Sometimes you learn from doing things on your own. So ya, Taffey - 1. CyberSora - Zip.

Okay, so I'm working on two tutorials:
Boss Battles 101 (I always wanted to say "101" :p).
Tips and Tricks on Sidescrolling Vertically/Horizontally (this is more from my "Ideas and Projects" thread, so not really requested, just sharing :) ).
Great, now I got 8 levels to make. I better get crackin'!
EDIT: Teachers! Turn in your assignments as quickly as possible! We need to teach a class here! :D

I'll update the main list with the sidescrolling tutorial, and I'm hard at work on the door tutorial at this very moment. Pics are all done, now I just need to write it up and post it!

Great idea for a thread Taffey! I would love to help out, but I don't think my current schedule allows me to. I'll try to help in whatever way I can, and I would be more than happy to add some of the excellent tutorials to the Tutorial Spotlight Sticky thread.

This is an awesome idea for a thread Taffey! I was in middle of replying to the thread this morning and my apartment lost both water and power (which includes internet) all at the same time, so I had to wait until I got somewhere else :-P
Anyway, I finally have access to the internetz, so I will repeat what I tried to say earlier:
I really enjoy making tutorials, but they can be VERY time consuming, which means that it really sucks if no one looks at them.
If there is anything in my PSP levels that people would like to have a tutorial for then I would probably be up for making one. So just let me know :-)

jeffcu28Awesome, thanks jc! :)
Your excellent Tutorial Spotlight thread was a very large part of my motivation for starting a thread like this. I know people want tutorials and other people want to make them, so let's all get together and make it happen!
If the "only" thing you do is add new tutorials to the Spotlight thread, then you are still doing the community a huge service. If there's anything you want adjusted/tweaked/tuned to make these tutorials fit in better with the format of your thread and/or the other tutorials that have been spotlighted (ok, spotlit - that's for you salieri :)) just let us know.

Tutorials are very fun to make, but yes they always seem to take a quite a bit longer than I expect them to. As for tutorials.... If you have the time maybe something about contextual speech bubbles? You know, a character says one thing at first, then you do action A and he/she says something different, then action B and he/she has yet another different thing to say. That may be the simplified version but I think people would love to know how you get all the different text working between all the scene-switching in your levels. I know I would. :)

Which one do you want to start with? I'll do a bunch of screen captures, host them, and PM you the links. From there you can pick and choose the ones you want to use and just link directly to them in your writeup.

Yeah, I'd be glad to give a simple changing dialog tutorial :-) I mean, you could take the idea that I give and make a whole level of changing dialog, but if I give the basic idea, then it should be easy to apply it to multiple characters for multiple lines of dialog that change based off of events in a level.
No promises that I will be able to get to it right away, but I would be glad to do it!

So, does this mean "no" for the logic-changing-dialog tutorial?I don't think so. I'd say the dialog thing was different enough that there will be little, if any overlap.
