okay so earlier i was planning (yeah - early yet i know) my LBP levels and decided to draw one in paint :D
It's shadow moses from MGS1... its from the beginning up until the tank boss.
Here's how it looks:

what do you think?
Post pics of your designs from paint or wherever, be it a level or a sackboy!

Btw first post :)

Exactly What I was gonna say xD!

Im not sure if the sackboys could crawl through vents though.. less you made them sackboy-sized..

And another thing.. the save the guy route could be hidden and you could get a better reward for finding him (Hidden just by, like, putting a cardboard sheet over the whole of his route so you can't see it, or your sackboy when he falls.)

Nice work, and congrats on your first post. Welcome to the forums! :D

thanks for the positive responses :) well i decided that im gunna go along with the hidden idea, as that would be a cool way of unlocking my tank boss battle. the floor i drew underground is B2.... so what i'll do is move the switch to B1 and make going to B2 have the unlockable :D the switch to unlock the door will have to be where you found the darpa cheif :) also id just make the vents the size of sackboy for the game lol.

Man i want this game so much! lol.

Your very welcome ^^ Check out the rest of the forums every now and then. Bbro says theres gonna be an open beta in September! You might be lucky and get to try it early!

Also, hit me up with a PM if you would like me to make you a sig. I made knightofhull's and my own so you can see my styles and talent (or lack of).

Edit: Theres also a user who posted two of his level designs in another thread, as links. Have a look for them! He also said he may form a level development team, and you may be good for that :)

Wow awesome. i may just join that, though i won't be able to go on LBP regularly till christmas time :( im in uni and don't take my PS3 (distracting lol) but the first weekend it is out i am DEFINATLY coming home to go on it. That weekend i'll try and make the level and tell you guys where to find it :) then i'll probably been home every other weekend as i won't be able to resist it lol. i seriously can't wait!

I've already started planning the textures..... what i'm gunna do is get clear screenshots of MGS1 textures from those levels.... and put them on my PS3 HDD then upload them so it all looks just like it. I'll spend the whole weekend on it if i have to!!! but it will be done :D I love creating things and i went nuts with the timesplitters 2/3 level creator. i think i shall be fairly good at creating the levels, if it's possible to do what i want :) i hope it's possible to do sort of scripted things.... like if i destroy this tank then the electric floor will go off (just a simple example). I've got so many ideas already lol.

And Maltay i'll PM you as that sounds good :)

Also; lbp i'll love to see my final levels too.... i'm gunna make sure these levels turn out excactly how i planned or i won't release them :p but it should as i'm **** stubborn with perfecting things  :)

Clever! nice idea, never thought of that myself. And im 99% certain that you can do those 'scripted things' as i've seen a few stuff like that happen in videos and LBP prides itself on you being able to re-create everything you see in the main game. :)

Great! That would make a sort've fun.. kiddish level but they're always nice. would remind me of crash bandicoot or something..

Hey, the bottomless pits in crash bandicoot.. there was one where if you did fall in it it teleported you to a secret area.. nobody really found out because its bad to fall in them pits. Only the worst players were rewarded :P theres an idea to incorporate... Now I want to make some really confusing levels that seem to defy all laws of gravity, logic and reason... one of those levels would ROCK! :D

update on my idea for my MGS levels. if it's a success and theres demand for more i'll continue through the game.

I've even thought of how the second part will work... it will first be in the warhead storage area (obviously - as its after tank boss) then you'd have to go to the electric floor part (as electricity is in the game :D )... i'd make that so you have to catapult something across the floor and into a machine thing so when it hits it, the floor is turned off. Then i don't think i could do a ninja battle really (IDEAS ANYONE?!)... i'll see what the games tools give me. nevertheless there will be a switch down there to open up the room to psycho mantis. this will definatly be a boss battle with moving objects throughout the whole room (which move fast and are on fire so they can hurt you) and you have to take down this floating psycho mantis character. not decided how thats possible yet - again i'd need to see what the game gives me. End of part 2 then. shorter - but sweet :)

I've yet to decide how the sniper battle would work for part 3.... though i know the start of part 3 will have little robotic wolves that can harm you :p

the best will be the final act.... imagine when i make metal gear REX! moving and everything.... sending out missiles! woooot lol.

You could even contact konami and ask them for permission, else you/they probably WILL be faced with legal issues. I would probably contact them now and maybe include your first level design to guarantee a response (well.. nothing's guaranteed:mad:) long as you dont make profit on it they have a fair chance of saying sure :/

Good luck

Yeah i'm a little worried now but to be honest as long as i can share it with you guys and it not get taken down that'll do me :) can you password protect levels? i could just release the password online.

Hmmm that sounds like a fair bit of trouble to go through. but i may consider it, especially considering i wanna use their textures. but when it comes down to it, it can't be me that's punished - it would be LBP (which ofcourse i do not want). all that would happen is it would be taken down i guess.

And if i was to send them my design i wouldn't send the one i posted. i only made that in 5 mins for a laugh. what i'd do is draw up a serious 3d design (as the vents won't be visible as you'll be going behind objects) and make it look alot neater and serious. i don't wanna look like a random 12 year old.

you know, I'll be surprised if you get a non generic response.... LBP is still not out,

id do it around when LBP releases so hopefully they'll understand fully what i'm on about and think about it from there.

I know I'll probably sound like an *** saying this, but there'll be a gazillion remakes of levels from past games, and none of them will stand out, unless they're made by an official team sponsored by the makers of said past game. Also, it's next to impossible to actually recreate the levels from the game, they'll always end up coming short (I've tried it myself with some editors, too - only to be disappointed).

You're much, much better off creating something completely new. For example, it's completely possible to make a stealth level with cameras and a military base setting - it could be a homage to MGS if you like, but you should try to make it your own and think about ways to make the level as fun and work as well as possible, instead of following certain restrictions because of mimicing MGS levels. Also, you'd find out that people are much more intersted in playing something they haven't seen before, something that'll surprise them.

The stealth level thing is actually a pretty interesting proposal, now that I think of it myself. I'll need to make a note about that.

Hmm.. stealth on lbp? yeah... aslong as you can set a trigger so that when your in the radius or direction of a "camera" you will be killed or something, I see this working great. i.s. having moving cameras so that the level requires alot of timing and some skill (hiding under obstacles and stuff) It'll be great.

to be honest I think my main focus will be fun little mini-games. maybe some in-level minigames..

Can't wait and sounds good. Your no ***, linque

well ofcourse i realise there'll be 10's - if not 100s of MGS levels (especially mario - i think that will come out on top). But tbh i'm doing it more for myself so i can play through these levels, i'm not really looking for it to stand out at all or anything. i do believe i can make it accurate enough to give that nostalgic feeling and if i do this i will see it as a success. Especially with the trick with the textures i'm doing. What i'll do it go on MGS4 and go around shadow moses taking pictures of the game, then upload them to the hard drive from MGS4 then put them into LBP. I'd obviously try and make it stealthy, but that depends how deep the tools are for the creator, along with what would happen if you got spotted. Plus i'll be altering certain aspects (like bosses) to make it fun. i'm already happy with my idea for the first boss tank battle.

I've already said in another thread after i've made a few levels from which i'm familiar with - i'm going to go straight into making my own (before making any levels through - playing through the game and tutorials). cause i think i'd be able to make better levels then, having already mastered (hopefully) the given tools.

And you were probably dissapointed before because no level editor has really given the depth in the tools to create levels in as detailed as LBP. I loved the timesplitters level creator - spent literally countless hours on that! but in terms of level design to get the best out of it you had to be real creative, as it was all determined by a grid format. though having all the triggers and gaurds patrolling was really creative. i actually made many many stealth levels in that, as you could give command like 'when GAURD A sees player..... do this...'. it was fantastic!

Linque

There's so many ways around it, even if you couldn't get cameras to work. You could always have trip wires, trap doors, guards that shoot at you if they see you or tons of other types of stealthesque obstacles.

ryan, alright, sounds good.

If you do it just for your own entertainment, that's all well and cool. I just wanted to point out that LBP will be riddled with remakes, but apparently there was no need to.

The problem with remakes is never, or at least very seldom, the limits of the editor. It's the fact that the original game usually does everything much better than something that's whipped up with some editor. The remakes don't really live up to the expectations people have. Of course sometimes there's exceptions, but you get the point I'm saying here. When you do something original, you hvae complete freedom of making all the modifications you like, as you're not bound by any rules you might set for the remake.

But yeah, it's all good. It probably will be a good way to learn the ropes anyway, as you said. :)

well thats very true ofcourse, especially doing a MGS one, people will have ridiculously high expectations and i bet every single level made will have many criticisms. Though my plan is to try and not so much as make the gameplay as similar - just the setting. You're right by saying theres restrictions - as changing the levels will thereby not make them MGS levels, so to make it interesting i'm going to have to do something quite special. make use of the detail around. Jumping over the tank in the hanger would be boring.... though if i make it a threat it could then become more fun. If i'm happy with my first level and others agree then i'd carry on making them. i'd love to have my own little MGS1 level set :p nevertheless i will DEFINATLY be making a REX battle - be it in a MGS or my own made one. infact i'll put it on my own one... it can crash out of a wall and attack suprisingly. people would bbe like :O WTF haha.

But yeah you're right when saying the best levels will be original - i can't wait for some of the insane things people are gunna make! i've already planned on making a VERY hard level with fast moving platforms, with fire all around and using the element of the 3D layers to my advantage. i'll make good use of levers and thus puzzle elements also. ofcourse thats a very simple concept, but i'll be making that very early on to get used to the moving parts of levels :)

or just name it something other than what the game is called, like "dense python" instead of "solid snake", lol

im gonna try to recreate a rube goldberg machine. for example:

At the beginning of the level i could put a sticker of the actual drawing so ppl would know what it was. it would be cool if i could do it.
