I really the hope cool pages system on LBP2 is different to the first and it's not as easy to reach the first page because I've realised a numerous amount of spammed levels have filled the first page not allowing any other decent levels to reach it. I think one of the problems is that the community actually plays them and the creators doing this will put something in the level which works once if they fail or die obviously it's making the players restart the level then leading them higher and higher up the pages gaining more and more plays -.- You think 5 restarts with a community of 10k+ player online = 50k plays in a matter of days...
Thanks for viewing my thread :)

Translation (Or maybe y'all need to be more kind, but I'll give you the benefit of the doubt):

TC wants a new structure to the Cool Levels pages, because right now it's mostly just the spammy levels, and the bomb survival levels that dominate the aforementioned pages.

I understand where you are coming from. The level rating structure as of now. But from what we know about the NEW system, it will be much more refined and specific. It sounds as if this problem may be resolved after such a long time.

BTW, this belongs in the speculation section, not news. I see you are RELATIVELY new here, so just remember you need to post in the right forum ok :)

Well, with LBP.me for a start this will change ALOT of things and makes it better.

However, I'm pretty sure they won't push the content properly while "in-game". I am ready for the worse. Or maybe they smarted up and will let people configure their "cool level pages" default settings and hopefully levels will have a "genre" tag so you can completely ignore certain types of levels that annoys you.

In LBP it's too easy to get in cool pages first page. I think it should be about those things:
1.Stars: I think stars should matter more on getting to first page.
2.Plays: Maybe it should be like, when you are having more and more plays, the level should DROP instead of RISING in cool pages. That would be fair. No one likes to see some God ****ed shark survival with 1 938 103 plays on first page. It would be much better if there were a basic platform adventure with 1029 plays. Then levels with less plays should get more plays!

odd number. Why do you think they went with that

Because six is one better than five. Most star-based rating systems go to five. LBP2's goes to six.

(Couldn't you just make five more important and make that the highest one?)

But... theirs goes to SIX.

be great if when you publish you get to select a category to put it under like racing, rpg, adventure , survival, and so on. that way you can look up what you are looking for and not get all the h4h crud.

also if a level is basically completely empty( like 100 kbs) it gets removed.

But at the same time, you don't want to go through tons of either new level or crap levels to reach the good ones.

The true solution to the cool pages would be to NOT have a default setting that is abstract. What I mean is that you would need to choose what you want to see appear on this page and you could save your favorite configs. So if you want to see the highest rated levels there, you would. If you'd want to new ones, you could to.

And for every of our creations, there should be a "genre" field and "difficulty level" field to check before publishing. This way, you could chose to get the "hard platformers" or again the "easy survival challenges" and this under your Cool level page's criteria like "best rated", "most hearted", etc

Seriously, this would simply solve ALL the current Cool level pages problems.

I'd love the ability to black list creators from my community pages on lbp2...

I know it sounds anti social, but just being able to go *click* ... ok, so now I won't see another level by Kakaroto, lemon_and_gravy, clay_november_20 or whatever. That'd be nice.

Yes this is a must as far as I'm concerned. I get tired of seeing the same smug faces on the cool pages at the minute, if I could simply hit x and they be gone forever it would be so nice. With the likes of facebook you can remove things from your feed including people so I think that it shouldn't be too hard to implement if they are going down that route.

I thinks we all know that the reason that the bulk levels by f.ex. kaskaroto and clay_20_november are up there because THE COMMUNITY PLAYS THEM. The solution: ban everyone under the age of 15? :D
I'd like the idea of the customisable Cool Levels page. To being able to choose by the category, difficlucly, star rating of just plain plays would be wonderful. Hopes someone already wrote that in the thread for the Q&A w/ Mm?

The reason the levels on Cool Levels are where they are is simple: The community likes crappy levels. The community votes these new levels in with their hearts and plays, and guess which ones get them? The bomb survival, ramp, costume, H4H, etc. levels do. Because, believe it or not, we, the people with a passion for well-designed levels with actual difficulty, story, exploration, etc., are the small minority of the LBP community populated by children who suck at the game and just want a quick fix to their boredom.

To keep this from happening in LBP2, there's little you can do.

You can either eradicate the community and their interests (which is illegal in most countries)

Or you offer more incentives to create more intricate, better, and more fun levels. Mm is going with this option by making easier and more streamlined tools, a more stable game, and more tools for people to dig into. With the same strategy people use to incite people to invest financially, Mm is using this to get more and more creators to put effort into their levels.

And if you ask me, I think there should be a "Cool Level" page for various different genres.
A Racing Cool Levels page, a Shooters Cool Levels page, etc., and then a Miscellaneous Cool Levels page, etc.

Oh for the love of burlap, Mm, PLEASE allow us to do this!!
If possible, even allow us to sort levels more intelligently. By genre, alphabetical order, creation date, plays, etc. like YouTube's intricate searching system.

I still see a problem with this too. You can already sort through these settings on your own. If people are allowed to set default settings, then they will probably miss a lot of "Cool" levels. I've seen some amazing 3 star levels and some horrible 4 star and even 5 star levels.

Since a "good/great" level is subjective - there is no way to weed out the "bad" ones.

There is no good answer for this issue:

I think an easy way to kill the spammers is allowing only 1-2 levels at a time on Cool pages, per PSN ID.
I wouldn't mind having a sorting for "heart to play ratio". That way, a shark survival with 192 thousand plays with 2 thousand hearts would be at the bottom.
Maybe MM should stop counting 1 person replaying a level over and over as multiple plays. Each PSN ID should get 1 play counted only.
I wouldn't like to catogorize my level - The Dream Catcher doesn't really fit into any (platformer, RPG, survival, etc.) - it's closest to a "Story" level I suppose, but parts two and three will have much more platforming involved - sooooo.

Plus, I am guilty of not wanting to play story levels and RPG's (they sound long and boring) - but I've run into some fantastic ones by playing with friends or F4Fs - if I had my Cool Pages set only for platformers/survival levels - I'd never see any of these great levels.

There is no silver bullet that will make the Cool pages cool. Sadly, great levels will continue to go unnoticed. Wish there was something MM could do to reduce the copy cat levels - but if the community plays them - it isn't their fault.

This is sadly - all true. My levels often start out with low star rating due to difficulty. I've even had to delete early publishes and restart them (cause I know they are better than 2 stars - and better than 3 in some cases). I think all but one of my levels is 4 stars - never had a 5 star *sniff*. I have seen MANY 4 star levels that, beyond a doubt, deserved a 5 star - I seriously don't understand. The infinity lives checkpoint helped out a lot with this issue.

I have come to the conclusion that people just select the default star rating, which is usually 3 or 4. They rarely take the time to change it, or post a comment.

I HATE it when someone posts a tag that has nothing to do with the level. I had someone tag my Dream Catcher level with "Vehicles" - there is not 1 vehicle in the level.

That reminds, one thing MM needs to do is come up with a better TAG system - like when I look for "more" tags - don't give me 3 of the same one I just saw. And get rid of the simple ones that don't help explain anything - "Fiery" "Electric", etc. - those don't help me decide whether I might enjoy a level or not.

I have a really bad habit of doing that. My little cousin has good taste though, he keeps to my hearted levels pages and rates levels based on what he thinks, though, on some levels, usually doom jump levels, he'll rate them 1 because of hardness. :P

I agree, better tag system would be better.

And, as for lemon_and_gravy, he makes good levels, he stopped his noob account. That level that got 200,000 plays, with only about 200 people who completed it (I was one of them :D ) was his last, as he admitted who he was and etc. etc. at the end. Though, he still has me ticked at him for starting all these noob levels. :(

This is mostly because it's not the right audience that has been playing this level. Why is that? Because LBP doesn't classify stuff much and everything that goes together or not, is trown in the same bucket. Just imagine a music store that wouldn't have any classification? Or that it would be classified by sales or people ratings (both of those would give similar results). Well, crap generic music would not only get even more exposure but even more sales over good/real music because it would be harder to the right audience to find the right product. With classifications by genres, music stores are selling a WAY MORE diverse catalog. It's quite simple logic and this should be applied to little big planet.

The more it's the intended audience that will play your level, the more your rating will have value. Right now kids will rate some harder, longer or more complex levels with a bad score because they really didn't find what they were looking for in there. Therefore this kills your score value and this is because of this that great levels are often 3 stars.

[/LIST]

Here anyways you are building on LBP1's Cool level pages but what needs to happen is a CHANGE, the modify the system. LBP1 current to do this cannot be solved properly. Also, having a category to help classification will always be better than not having it. As soon as you classify more, you help your level reaching its intended audience and this is always benefital.

This is false. If you had your page set for platformers and survival levels, it means it's the type of levels you would like to play. If it's not, you change your setting. Why would you always find levels by the same criterias??

Lastly, to remove the copy cat levels, you simply need to remove the copy option and only let people send their level to others in a manual fashion. As for using objects that are in a level well, if you put them in a bubble you want someone to use it. Other than that you cannot prevent plagiarism completely. No system is perfect anyways, it's about making a system better and not making a perfect system because this is impossible from the get go.

Hmmm, I don't think you read what I wrote properly. It certainly isn't false.

I was simply saying that if I have my settings to only the levels that I typically enjoy (let's say survival levels) - that I might miss out on other fantastic levels that I sometimes run into on the Cool Pages, so, as much as I hate the majority of what gets stuck on the Cool pages - I do like that there is such a variety of levels that I can run into. :)

I got you, but finding levels is on the player's part. In the settings you could put the genre to "all" and select "highest rated" or something along those lines. This way tons of good (according to people) levels would pop. I just mean that if you want to see what's there beside your favorite setting, just change the setting...
If the game is well done it will let you access tons of levels in no time with simple categories / criterias and searching. It's just that if keep our mind wrapped around LBP1 design (that is horrible on the subject here) its normal we might fail to see how to make this right. LBP2 needs to change ALOT in that department to become "great" and trulty honor the "share" in the "play / create / share" concept.

It's absolutely mad the state of LBP cool pages at the minute. There's alot of rumours about whether LBP2 will have a cool pages or not, I'm not entirely sure about who to believe :P guess we'll have to wait and see, I can't see there not being one. Also alot of replies in this thread mention different catergories for levels you play, seperating, hopefully the story lined based ones from survival challenges (bombs, floaty platforms) etc which would be excellent!

For the most part nowadays, when I want to look for the good stuff in LBP1 i'll look in one of three places;

-Community Spotlight
-Level pages (when i'm looking to F4F)
-Hearted creators hearted lists. You need to heart people with integrity, so you know what they heart will be top notch also.

A couple of quick points:

1) We are assuming that the current Cool Pages will function in a similar fashion as they do today. The truth is, we don't know how the new online features will look or function once we all get our hands on the disc. We have more information about a site that is currently closed to the public than we do about any prospect of "Cool Pages" in LBP2. I expect more on this at E3.

2) As for the sixth star, I have a feeling that we will all be able to access the normal 5 star rating system. Once a level reaches a certain number of plays and MM gets wind, plays it, and deems it so, they can upgrade to the aforementioned 6th star. Again, the same caveats about what we see today may not be implemented in the final version.

That's not a bad guess actually, I hope it's this ^^...that said, this would only work if there was a strong community feedback to Mm, and seeing as they gave up on doing their community picks a long long time ago, I can't see this being the case.

Ok don't moan if I say something proved wrong from page 3 because I didn't really read all of it.. But there are other search settings than cool levels people. Highest Rated, Newest or you could search for an author if you know they've got some good levels. And if you need to try and get more plays there was this website where you could advertise it called little big... something? Oh yeah, here. But on the disscusion of the cool levels page revamp I like the idea of hearts:plays ratio, whoever posted that..

Darth

The best idea I've seen so far is the black list for players whose levels you never want to play. And have it apply to quick play as well. I've found plenty of good levels through quick play, but usually I'm thrown into some R1 race or Shark Survival. :(

I think that they don't even really care what happens to cool pages. Or they do but they can't do nothing about it. They can't just remove them from first page. Or... maybe... maybe they make an improve to what you wanna search. Like put levels in categories or something. Cool levels for survival challenges, cool levels for platform/puzzles and for mini games and something like that.

I don't even think there'll be a need for a Cool Levels page in LBP2 when you can have your hearted creators stream the best content directly to your feed.
Basically, every user gets their own unique list of cool levels that takes into account what levels they enjoy, what their friends enjoy, and what your hearted creators enjoy.

suggestions? theres like alot sub-categorys right... so, what you do with that is take the top 2-3 levels off those, 10 or so new levels (not republished) and then, they'd be the cool levels, best levels of each set so theres a veriaty of every thing, platforming, race, pointless bomb and shark survivals, and all the others... so, Ideas?

Yeah Mm talked about the system. Depending on what levels you play it filters all the levels and shows you the ones you would enjoy, so everyones cool levels page will be different. It also collects levels from your que que
