First?

What are you planing on doing once you get the game in your hands. Are you going to...

A.) Explore the menus and jump into single player to unlock things

B.) Go online and look at other creations and get ideas

C.) Start building your own masterpiece immediately

I personally am going for A i want more things to be able to expand and use in my level then look at others then have a go with it myself

I am going to beat single player, then make some vehicles and items. Afterwards I'll move on to full-fledged level editing, and by that time there'll be some good levels on the servers to play.

I'm gonna play through the single player campaign (probably not the full way but maybe 1/3 or half in the first sitting) and then watch all the creation tutorial videos (narrated by Stephen Fry I believe) and start creating :).

Then I'll go online and see if anyone has uploaded any levels yet.

I think everybodys going for A.. But I have a really good online friend who i do everything with so I'll be doing it with him over the internet, methinks.

Im a completionist so all 60 lvls 100% for me on first day. Then I start making levels with items that people may not have seen before.

Haha, that made me laugh. You have a point though, there's just so much to do it's hard to figure out where to start.
