With all honesty, I would have to say maybe. I actually want to save my money for any unsuspecting DLC that will show up before LBP2 hits the shelves. The other half of me would on account of I get to play LBP2 early and, I get that beta vest costume too.

As for myself, I have year memberships to both PS+ AND QORE, so, i'd say I have decent chances of getting in,

Only if there was a 100% chance of me getting in if I got PS+.

First-off, from what my friends list tells me... PS+ needs LBPBeta keys. Whats your friendlist saying? For me, PS+ subscription is probably around 7%. I really thought about buying in to PS+, afterall, I want in on the Beta, (and everyman has his selling point...) I've seen what they are offering-- but my integrity just won't allow me to buy in.

Which brings me to Mm decision to grandfather in all the OC/Water beta testers. Where's the integrity in that? Why not spread the love rather than set-up a caste system for the status-quo. Is reinforcing the established idea of 'haves' vs. 'have-nots'... a good thing?

I gotta tell you, when I saw Spaff's most recent 'Soon' post I really wanted to wretch... I mean I'm happy for all you folks who were in the Water and OC betas--it's really great. I mean that. But I remember reading way to many posts, by members here-- who just wanted the prestige or costume pieces made available to them, and then had the nerve to post here bragging about it. How they lost interest. How they scammed it, or their multiple accounts... Now you tell me, wouldn't that gall you too? So now Mm has taken the ultimate easy-way-out, and while I can't condemn them... I can point out that, "more could be accomplished with less of the same."

"If it ain't broke- don't fix it!" That's what a lot of folks will say... I actually agree with that-- but here's the problem with that reasoning... I consider myself a community member of some note. I am constantly behind the eightball and will never have the oppurtunity to catch-up if this status-quo is maintained... and that is not right for myself or the other 99% of the community. What do I mean? You give some/the same creators, a 60 day head start with creation tools and all of the rest of your userbase can never wrestle back that pre-determined headstart. It's impossible, and it isn't right that I should always feel as if I am playing catch-up.

More importantly LBP, LBPC, and Mm are all about the community. It's true! Without community all three of those things would be long forgotten by now. So the decision is made to give exclusive time with said product on the basis of? It just feels wrong to exclude the same people over and over again!

Ok, so maybe 60+ days of exclusive use of LBP2's creation tools shouldn't be my arguement... Maybe it should be the fact that this beta-team with lifetime appointments form bonds and relationships and inside jokes that are not healthy for the community as a whole. I mean why work with me when you've got all the friends you need right now playing LBP2... they're a known entity, share a common goal, and exclusivity, a secret, a forum populated by the ultra-exclusive molecules... real bonds are formed. I am a fortunate creator... while I am not in the communities' hierarchy, I am close enough to the top, that I am able to partake in some of the trickle-down... and take advantage of what does come my way... but for so many lost in the vastness of three million levels... netting 25 plays is a milestone... I wailed a victorious warcry when I hit the unfathomable 500 play mark!

HEY Mm, this deck really is in need of re-shuffling!

And before anyone comes on here taking a swing at me... I am working on missing my third beta opportunity... You go ask Morgana25, or xKappax, or any of the other women on this site how they felt about being excluded from the Jam? Then you can comeback here and post... Because, just [U]one perceived snubbing knocked a lot of noses out of place... One. And if the current system is maintained for the Lifecycle of the LittleBigPlanet franchise... We'll I just gotta believe there is a better way available for Mm and Sony to proceed.

Is this too personal of a perspective? --i don't know, honestly... maybe. Is it a logical arguement? No. But I am capable of perceiving right from wrong... and I often voice my opinion when I don't like what I see... Sometimes I am completely self-motivated. People are very passionate about this game... Mm needs to be reminded this-- because it just seems they are over-looking the obvious, and have now officially created an on-going heiarchy within the community. It's great news if your in...

seriously i feel like i gotta resort to begging anybody whos in the beta to try and send recommendations to Mm to include me in there...if its possible...hell maybe even celeb creators could get me in somehow...

it shouldnt be like this....i hope this time they find a way to include lots and lots of more people...because i REALLY wanna be a part of this

I would do it no hesitation... oh wait... i already have PS+... so yeah. I cancelled X-Box live to get PS+. Best decision I ever made.

EDIT: Gravel may be on to something, but we must not forget thatSony and Mm are BUSINESSES. They exist to trade us things for money, and thats what this is. They are giving us a chance to play LBP2 early, and to better it by fixing bugs. It's not like this is a gold digging ply to take all our soda money, no. It's smart business. Sony has said that those with PS+ would have a better chance of being opted into betas, and why not? It's a fair trade. Don't beat up Sony for wanting to make money. It's their job to maker money. And without our money, Sony would not exist... And neither would LBP... And certainly not LBP2.

I probably wouldn't just for the beta, but I did get PS+ for the harddisk LBP1, Sam&Max and various smaller things (assuming there will be more stuff I like later in the year). I tried not to let a possible LBP2 beta be a consideration, as there is absolutely no guarantee whatsoever.

@Gravel: I agree about mixing things up a bit, I would keep the people who found bugs (or at least tried) or were otherwise useful, and drop the rest in favour of new blood. But I don't think the head start is that big of a deal. In the beta, a lot of time is spent exploring new features, and this collected knowledge is available as soon as the new features are released to the entire community.

Finally, a consideration for all those who think they're entitled to a spot because they tried three times already: there are over 3 million copies of LBP out there, and maybe a few thousand beta spots. That's some nasty odds, good luck to you. :p

only problem i have with this (being a PSN+ user myself) is that it's basically a RENTAL...since once your year expires you can't use them anymore....and it angers me because i like to OWN my games....the only thing PSN+ is good for are the higher up chances at betas...and the discounts you can get...and the 1 hour trial of an entire game...at the end of the day PSN+ to me is just $50 for a coupon book :/

but yeah anyways would be nice if i FINALLY get into a beta...whether it be cuz ima + user or because Mm finally recognizes someone who's willing to work for their beta

I wouldn't pay because I wouldn't want to be in the beta to begin with. I'd rather wait and play LBP2 when everyone has access to it, otherwise there is little to play and it is less enjoyable. Plus, the main job of a beta tester is to break the game - not really the most fun you can have.

Shadowcrazy

there is little to play and it is less enjoyable

how? you'll be given loads of tools and such to play around with, hundreds of possibilities of things to do, and when LBP2 comes out you can show off what you've been working on since beta (if they allow it...since they did with water beta)

the main job of a beta tester is to break the game - not really the most fun you can have.

so being given the power of the Mm GODS, so you can build giant sackbots and lethalize them and drop them on water to see if they break or glitch the game doesn't constitute as fun?

....you my friend are a strange LBP player lol

I wouldn't, but then I'm not especially concerned with betas. Would it be nice to start on lbp2 early? Sure. If a beta were offered to me or if it were pretty easy to get, I'd go for it, but I wouldn't pay/beg/do any hoop jumping. Mostly, though, I'm fine with waiting for the finished game. Also, I'm not too fond of the way Sony has been doing things lately, and I would never subscribe to psn+, no matter what perks they offer.

I found gravel's post interesting and insightful and I partially agree. I wouldn't think that just because somebody has been in a beta that it should necessarily guarantee them a spot in future betas, but I would think that anybody who was particularly useful at doing whatever beta testers are supposed to be doing (finding bugs and whatnot) would obviously be a shoe-in for future betas. I'm kind of curious--I've never looked into it--what exactly has it taken in the past to become a beta tester? Is it a random drawing thing, or do Mm favor creators who've made significant levels or otherwise gotten their attention?

Actually the good creators in the beta thing isn't too surprising. I don't know how LBPC did it but with the OC beta forums were told to chose people by any means they wanted to get into the beta. So this got the active members and the good creators of those forums into the beta.
The water beta was chosen at random (whether this is the case or not it is unknown.)

The idea that people should just be kicked out of the beta is a bit unfair, it sounds fair enough from the outside perspective were little is known about what the beta participants are doing, but on the inside it is a different story. We thrive to make this game better, we have had the opportunity to test big features such as water, but we have also had the task of testing small things like new network code. It sounds glamorous from the outside oooh they get to test new features, but when you are given a feature that you can't even see and you test it to the point of breaking the game on multiple occasions...

Beta testing isn't all fun, and even though Mm try to make it as enjoyable experience as possible it is still work. We are less important tan alpha testers, but we are on a larger scale and that is why Mm do beta tests. We have had multiple crashes on our systems in game and out, for example the last phase of testing we did, without telling you anything big I will just say we had people who were unable to download the patch, people whose consoles crashed wen the download started, people who got part way through the install and crashed. We have the problems of data loss and corruption, and the chance of having the console blow up.

The beta is a good thing, and it is a thing that many of us fight with to try and make the game as bug free as possible, the last phase of testing I went through every story level to find bugs, did I find any... Yes I did and I reported them, not for reward but because I love the game and I don't want to see it broken. If Mm sees fit to then reward me with costumes or participation in the next beta I don't care, as long as I know that nothing is going to come out and hurt peoples experience with little big planet.

All that being said I would love to see more people in the beta, there are many people here on LBPC that would be brilliant testers and would make a great addition to the team, but there is also a lot of people that wouldn't. Look at the influx in spam threads we have had since the beta was announced, now you could attain this from a lack of information or the fact that people don't have anywhere to express their feelings, but we are all in the same boat on that one. No one knows what is happening in this beta, not even the lucky people that know they are participating, so there has to be another reason these threads keep popping up.

Its because they are all people that couldn't care less about actually testing for bugs, that don't want to be in it to make the game better. They just want to get their hands on LBP2 and want to brag about having played it. This is a major factor that is in the better recruitment process, and people who maybe don't deserve to be in the beta get through, and definitely people who deserve to be in the beta get left out, but you can't have everyone in the test, they just wont get the feedback necessary, they will just get spam emails saying wow this is awesome thank you.

I think I have rambled enough but long story short you have to play the cards dealt, if they are bad or good you have to live with it, I would love to see everyone who deserves to be in the beta get there chance, but remember on Mm's end it isn't for fun, they try to make it entertaining so they can keep us interested and make us find the bugs they need and in many cases it hasn't been fun for us either. Why would we want to play in a client that gives us nothing visibly new, when we could play the real LBP.

The LBP2 beta I am really excited for, but it is still going to be one main thing in my mind, and that is to find bugs so Mm can catch them and kill them.

I wouldn't, i would love to but i just wouldn't D: dont make this thread they might see a lot of people saying yes and they will do it then!

I'm fine with them saying yes :p I have PS+.

But before anyone complains at me: I do think that PS+ members should get instant access, but I certainly don't think PS+ should be the only way of getting in. I'm all for random drawings, and codes being given to sites, etc. because I don't believe that simply paying for a service should grant exclusive access, and block others out.

Anyway, if you don't have PS+, I wouldn't worry. I can't realistically see it being done that way. It will most likely be done in the same way as the original LBP beta, where sites got codes to give out. (Anyone remember that? When EuroGamer crashed? Ah, good times!).

@robotiod:

In some ways, I agree. You guys are doing an excellent job, and I'm happy for you that you get the experience. I have no bad feelings toward anyone in the current beta. I want to make that clear.

BUT- Your main argument is that the beta testing is often more like a 'job' than a fun experience. Fair enough. I see what you mean. But the thing is, if they opened the beta up to more people, the ones who aren't committed will soon leave when they get bored. I'm disappointed when I see posts on here or other sites where people have said about friends who got the beta just for the sake of it, and never touch it. I'm disappointed because I know that I'd actually try. I'd use the experience to help Mm as much as possible, whereas they probably got someone in my potential place that doesn't ever use the beta, and if they do, it's just so they can show off, not so they can help.

I've never understood the secrecy of the betas either, to be honest. The new features you guys test are often known about beforehand, and most of the community already know what you're up to. I simply don't like the separation of the community. Fair enough not being in the beta, but why can't we know what you're doing? It's to help a game we all play, isn't it? It's for our benefit, and yet we get left in the dark! The NDA is ridiculous, IMO. If there was no NDA, people wouldn't go begging about the beta nearly as much, because there'd be new info almost every day. Not only that, I'm sure people would post videos, too.

Can I also say something more, everyone talks about codes when it come to the LBP2 beta, I need to correct this, because all participants are given access to the EU beta forum, and other things like Beta.LBP.me the Beta isn't actually given via code (kinda, there is a code but only for the client)
All participants are manually activated and given their privileges. They are also given the client code which is linked to their PSN ID (supposedly I don't know how this works in practice, if it works properly it should only be downloadable from the account it is set for) this make unauthorized selling of the beta impossible.

So the idea that Ps+ members would get it early is kind iffy, they would need to activate everyone who is a PS+ user and give them access to the forum, making a small forum are now have millions of users.

This does not mean the end of the idea PS+ users getting it, I would presume that the beta will go public eventually just like the LBP1 beta did, at this point I could see PS+ users getting it before regular users, the thing to remember though is that this would be at the last stage of testing.

@robotiod:

I don't think the LBP2 beta will include access to LBP.me. That's just for the people who are already testing, I believe.

I reckon that all new testers will get is a code to download the LBP2 Beta client. I'd be surprised if newbies will even get access to the forums.

@robotiod:

I don't think the LBP2 beta will include access to LBP.me. That's just for the people who are already testing, I believe.

I'm just pointing out that there is more to being a beta tester than just using a code on the ps store, and LBP.me is a good example, one which I could see being tested with the LBP2 client, but TBH I can't and don't really want to go too much into that.

many good points...but at the end of the day i can only say this

"i hope you pick me Mm"

thats pretty much it...i wanna help out and make the game good, and those exclusive DLC items i want to (im not going to sit here and lie to you guys...part of the reason i wanna get into the beta is to get the DLC as well) and i want to be able to report bugs and maybe hint on things they could improve on like creatinator being gloves and such

anyways thats just me

Unless Mm specifically pick people for the beta, we won't get access to LBP.me, then. Because how else would they activate the correct accounts? They aren't going to check every PSN user to see if they've downloaded the LBP2 Beta, I wouldn't think.

I don't want to sound all depressing, but I wouldn't get your hopes too high about getting the DLC from the LBP2 Beta. I think the LBP2 Beta is more of a marketing ploy (like the very first Beta) than an actual test like the Water beta was. Mm might not give vests to everyone because I think the LBP2 beta will be fairly open to everyone (probably through sites giving away codes).

meh, in any case i just want to help out, play the game early, and try out some of the features as well

having the DLC would be great but its not the main reason i want in

but yeah in the end just being in the beta is good enough for me...any extras would be greatly appreciated and id gladly take them

but for now i just wanna be in the beta

Yoho i was in the water beta my self,
but to be honest i'm not much of a beta man...
yes i love the idea of helping MM and hopeful making
a awesome game even better but it was horrible
every bug i found was already reported by someone
so i saw no point in reporting anything as someone else
got to it first, *mew
And really i just want to enjoy the done model for the game
and Not spoil it for my self :E...
yeah if i get in LBP2 beta as i already was a member of
water , it'll be a hard one for me on 1 side it be super neet
to help MM, on the other i'd hate to spoil the game for me,
i'm looking forward to enjoying the game at 100%
so its a thinker for me, really i hope there won't be Beta
the game is not even that far from coming out its only
november... :i i can understand why people want it
to help MM, but i don't understand wanting in it just
for fun >_O... some people just don't get it,
awell everything thinks differently *mew

Gravel's right why should all the big guns get a head start sure they're better for testing purposes but the thing is I doubt they'll even specifically test anything they just 'play around in create mode' and report anything that comes up when they're playing, whilst me(the little man) gets shrugged off even though I would test to my hearts content you ask why because I don't want to be happily playing along then poof all your data's gone.

lol if you really feel that way maybe you could ask Mm if you can transfer your beta status to someone else? (pick me pick me pick me lol) idk if thats possible but it would be nice since then you'd make someone happy and then you wouldn't waste the beta key.....plus you wouldnt have to worry about it anymore and focus more on the full product when it comes out and smile knowing the beta tester you recommended to Mm had a hand in fixing all the bugs they could

Saying Couldn't, wouldn't, wouldn't want to , I meant Couldn't (afford it), wouldn't (buy it), wouldn't want to (buy it). Of course, if you gave me a free key, I would snatch it away from you :p What I mean is that I won't pay for a trial version, never.

who got the code, its now part of my online user,
no one who was in water can give thier code to you unless they never used it i think... *mew

You can actually transfer your beta status. I saw on the site a while ago that recommendations are a way to get in, so If you're serious, you just need to contact the beta leader on the Playstation website, and recommend someone who you think would do a good job (or you can simply say they want to stop, but you may as well let someone else have a go).

Pass-the-baton! - Believe it or not, and for various reasons, some testers do make the decision to hand in their Beta badge. In such instances we allow the retiring tester to refer someone else to take their place. This way their decision to leave will hopefully bring a good friend some genuine fun and happiness.

I'm not 100% on this, but I think that the LBP2 beta will probably be one that you can get in via sites giving out codes, right?

Well, the original LBP1 beta was the same, and you didn't get anything for that.

Yes, giving it up would mean you aren't in any others later.

BUT- If you (or any other Beta member out there) decide you aren't interested any more, you can contact MojoSwift or LiquidRunner on PlayStation.com and tell them you want to give your beta status to someone else. So remember that, just in case.

And remember, me or Shadowcrazy will always be here and ready ;)

how? you'll be given loads of tools and such to play around with, hundreds of possibilities of things to do, and when LBP2 comes out you can show off what you've been working on since beta (if they allow it...since they did with water beta)

so being given the power of the Mm GODS, so you can build giant sackbots and lethalize them and drop them on water to see if they break or glitch the game doesn't constitute as fun?

....you my friend are a strange LBP player lol

It's mainly a solo experience. I'm not denying it would be fun, but i'd get pretty bored after a while without more levels to play.

Solo? Why solo? Even if you don't know anyone online, there's always Quick Play (I assume that's in LBP2) and offline Multiplayer!

And there will be thousands of levels! Community ones!

Well if i do every give it up, Not likely as
i would not mind doing betas of LBP2
after LBP2 is out, Like if they did Add ons like water etc,
im sure i'd give to someone who'd love it and use it
to its best, but don't get me wrong i am happen
being a tester, i just need to try harded next time
to get bugs reported :3 *mew
