PS3 Spotlight

SteamJunkSabre_/Sabre_http://i1019.photobucket.com/albums/af317/Sabre_LBP/APhoto_38.jpgVenture through the SteamJunk mixed with Steam and Junk such as toxic waste. The level is kind of short due to thermo but hopefully rate me on the level than the length.

This level may be called SteamJunk, but the junk metal is arranged into such awesome platforming and detail that it's worth its weight in gold! Dodge gaseous pipes, trip over scaffolding and balance carefully on rusty metal platforms. A great platformer by any standards, but the decorations and excellent theming are really the icing on the cake.SteamJunk starts you off running and doesn’t let up on the pace until you’re done! Junk and toxic waste is everywhere, but, as they say, some people’s trash is others’ treasure. In this case... it’s yours! Fantastic use of materials and stickers meld together into beautiful visuals and quick, quick platforming. This is one of the best race levels you'll ever play!
Getting the platforming heavy elements done right, that are at the very core of a Junk themed level is a tall order, luckily for us Sabre_ has pulled through with this rust-covered, waste-filled death trap. Nice points combo's litter the landscape, so you'll have to be on your toes if you want that top spot.
I've always enjoyed that whole 'junk-into-art' concept, but Sabre_'s latest level really makes you appreciate the fact that anything, when arranged the right way, can be a thing of beauty. His newest level is brimming with great platforming innovations and a brilliant atmosphere that I would describe as anything but junk!
Steampunk SkallywagsL1GhTmArE/L1GhTmArEhttp://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c19/Rahsaan1/NewLevels/SS.jpg"Arrrr mate! Thars not a pint of land in sight and were lost in this sea of clouds!..wait...Land ho!"

Wow ... that was the one word on my lips through out this amazing adventure. Every surface was detailed and decorated; everything looked rusty, grimy or cracked; the solid, original platforming oozed out of every area and the theming was simply spectacular. L1GhTmArE's best level to date, and one of my favourite steampunk levels of all time!Awesome pirate airship? Heck yes. No better way to start off a steampunk level. And ain’t this one gorgeous. Rusty nails poke out of the fencing and wood, while telephone poles and transformers (not the robot transforming kind... the electric kind...) rise from the ground. All this emerges from the haze of a beautiful sunset. But visuals aren’t all this level has to offer! Clamber down an anchor chain, run between smashy-things, and venture into some huge pipes! Objects are used perfectly and cleverly. And one point you’re offered to take the scene route for some more points, or take a shortcut. Are you ready to loot this level?
L1GhTmArE has been sequentially upping his game over and over again in his last few creations, and he's just gone and added another level to his impressive spotlighted levels list with this steampunk'y themed gad. Typical steampunky stuff abounds, pipes, cogs, dials, steam (duh) etc, but it all comes together in a way that puts it way, way above your average, mediocre steampunk excursion. This level is so full of quality that it figuratively leaks out from between its wooden boards and bent pipes.
Haven't gotten enough of the steam punk theme yet? Well you're in luck, because L1GhTmArE's newest level is one of the most intreaguing and well made takes on the genre to date, and my personal favorite from this particular creator. From the gameplay and level flow to the outstanding visuals, everything in this level is polished to perfection making for one heck of a fun and memorable adventure. Make sure not to miss this one, because it's just about as good as they come.
The Cursed Clock TowerAntikris/Stellakrishttp://i.imgur.com/ViAhb.jpg0Help rid the monks of the evil creature living in the attic of their clock tower. A steep, vertical ascend with a classic boss fight at the end. Might contain some frustrating jumps.

It's hard enough to come up with unique platforming ideas, but it's even harder to make them make sense in your environment. That is exactly what Stellakris does. Every platforming element in this level belongs in a clock tower, and so do the windows richly decorated with excellent custom stickers. Everything, down to the escapement mechanism on the pendulum, is true to life - except perhaps the pacey boss fight, which swoops down upon you unawares!Help out some monks in the clock tower! Charming from the start, take a good gander at the beautiful stained glass and monks... er... doing counterweight bell stuff, I guess. Whatever! It’s awesome! Gears, weights, and monks abound in this simply beautiful and original level. Everything is wonderfully intricate, just like the inside of a pocketwatch. It’s a great, fresh level that you won’t regret playing through a few times!
Kris shows us all how to make an entrance to a community, which is by plonking a huge gothic themed clocktower right up in that level showcase. With everything on a larger than life scale, traversing wooden beams and jumping betwixt cog teeth becomes very satisfying. Monks on counterweights help you reach the top. So very fresh.
Creating a level that really gives you that sence of epic scale is a difficult feat, but that's exactly what Antikris' new level does. It's sprawling stained glass windows and huge, empty spaces give you a great sence of height as you climb to the top of this mysterious tower. Just beware for when you get there, because what waits for you at the top isn't about to give you a warm welcome!
Trouble in the Canyons!booXely/booXelyhttp://i1209.photobucket.com/albums/cc390/booXely/APhoto.jpgSomewhere deep within the mines, trouble brews...What could it be?

Colourful, creative and corner-edited to perfection, this Canyons level ticks all the boxes for polish, gameplay and visuals. This adventure has a bit of everything - simple solid platforming, a devious boss and some killer visual design. I challenge you to defeat the boss without dying ...Wha... what kind of desert IS this? It’s trying to kill me!! Oh wait... that’s what deserts do. Hm... anyway, booXely’s attention to detail is top-notch—like homemade pipes, the hoard of beaver miners, secret rooms (I, sadly, found only three of them...), and a brief, clever reference to one of Comphy’s levels. You know what else is awesome? Backtracking! You get to use your head and be challenged... but not in a gnaw-the-sticks-off-your-controller sort of way! The final boss is also one of the funniest I’ve faced... so go find him and give him the old one-two!
This fun and friendly canyons themed level really hits the spot if you're hankering for somethign great to play. It's got everything right, from the tip top visuals to superb gameplay and puzzles. Throw a few secrets and a very clever boss into the mix and youve got a great level that's sure to entertain!
If Trees Could SpeakJaslow/jaslowhttp://oi51.tinypic.com/2624j5v.jpgA platforming level set inside a tree. You platform through the dying tree, through timers and catapults and rotating sponges.

An outstanding blend of woods, sponge and lighting make this level very aesthetically pleasing, whilst the difficulty is ramped up nicely with some ingenious timed obstacles and traps. Clever layer-changing sections add depth to the insides of the tree. Not everywhere is as plain-sailing as it seems, however - you must avoid being singed or spiked on your way past all the timed obstacles and rotating grabbies.Ever wonder what trees think about? Well this level will show you! Some good timed sections with swinging (and clinging) about make this level a joy to gad about in. The visuals are magnificent too, with wood, clever layers, and a few well-placed stickers to make it look like you really are running about in a tree’s memories. Hold on—literally—because this is gonna be a spongey ride!
Heres a tricksy organic themed platformer set within a dying tree recounting its memories. And it's every bit as awesome as that sounds. With a soft blend of woods, Jaslow has carved himself a secure spot on this spotlight.
If the trees could speak, oh what a wonderful tale they would tell! At least, that's the impression this magnificent level from Jaslow gives us. Warm, yet at the same time somber visuals along with some tricky but fun obstacles make for a unique experience not really captured by any previous tree levels that I can recall. Make sure to give this one a go.
Cumulus Paradoxzynax555/Zynax555http://img831.imageshack.us/img831/2252/aphoto8.jpgEnter a land in the sky as you explore your way through various challenges and puzzles.

My first thoughts were: “I’m in a magical fairy land!!” (Yes, I commonly think like that). And that thought pretty much kept up through the entire level. It looks and plays really good! The variation on the visuals is quite good... just when you think you’re doomed to traverse an endless cave of rock—albeit very pretty rock—you pop out in the sky (which, mind you, is also extremely pretty with great usage of the 3D glitch, beautiful windmills, and a stunning airship)! It really reminds me of a much more cheerful Shadow of the Colossus or ICO. It’s a puzzler too—so pull on your thinking/platforming cap and queue up this level!
Good lighting is like gold dust, so if you can get it right in your level, it really stands out. Starting out underground amongst rays of natural light and tree roots, puzzle your way out of the side of a cliff into ancient ruins (whose mechanisms suprisingly still work!). A gruelling single player puzzler, for those who enjoy a challenge :)

This mysterious and beautiful world suspended above the earth is an absolute feast for the mind, courtesy of Zynax555. It's clever fusion of puzzles and platforming along with it's superior visual design that changes from earthy caverns to futuristic airships will leave you enticed and entertained. This level makes for an fantastic journey that shouldn't be missed by anyone.
The Lost Pharaohpoms/pomshttp://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=26544&d=1289939472Get into the Great Pyramid and face its terrible secret. The Lost Pharaoh has become alive!

You are greeted by a beautiful pyramid and a distraught Egyptian (though he looks pretty cool in those aviators). Then drop into the catacombs to test your mettle against some Wind Waker-esque zombies and devious traps. In fact, everything—the lighting, materials, and traps—is a lot like Arbiter’s Grounds from Twilight Princess, but cuddly. Can you handle that? Well please try, because ghostly platforms, springy crocodiles, and a wicked (dead) pharaoh were never so fun!
Poms has this deadly habit where he goes into hibernation for about 8 months, and at the end of it comes out with something staggeringly cool. At any rate, true to form here is a supremely well crafted excursion into the haunted depths of egyptian tombs. With the many impaled skeletons of those adventurers who came (and failed) before you, you'll have a blast leaping spikey pits of death and running away from the rotting inhabitants of this dusty crypt. Another poms classic.
Also from the Showcase...

Cell 13SalieriAAX/SalieriAAX
http://i625.photobucket.com/albums/tt338/jcua28/Cell13s.jpgSackboy has found himself confined to a bare, lonely cell: a seemingly inescapable predicament. However, when the walls of sanity that confine Sackboy's reality begin to tear, who knows what our hero will sacrifice to be free of... CELL 13 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LAUR108OTlA

Okay, everyone knows Salieri can make beautiful levels, and this one is quite easy on the eyes. However, the normal pretty vistas are replaced by weird, and strange landscapes in a different dimension. Escaping Cell 13 was the easy part. Trying to escape this level without being drawn in is unlike anything you have ever experienced - not so easy. When it comes to sack-scale characters, SalieriAAX does it like no other. And apparently, this also applies to massive characters that span an entire level! Escape the synergistic torture of physical and mental boundaries with the help of an omnipresent creature that offers beautifully animated platforming for a small price. Watch the time when you play this though; you’ll be trapped playing it over and over again!Even when I was prepared to be surprised, Salieri caught me completely unawares with this bizarre and immersive brain-twisting gem. If Rod Serling and Mario ever got together and made a level, this would be it. Brilliant platforming, innovative use of both layers, and a gameplay mechanic I have never seen before really make this level stand out. Now I know what lurks at the heart of the Community Moon.
Dr. Voodoo's Boppin' BrewSeekingTruth86/SeekingTruth86
http://i625.photobucket.com/albums/tt338/jcua28/Voodoo.jpgDeep in a haunted swamp lives the nefarious Dr. Voodoo, ancient brewmaster of the bayou. Do that voodoo thing you do while trying not to become brew! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1lQ5pqvZ-Nc

SeekingTruth86 comes back, and comes back strong with this rousing trip to the bayou. The murky swamp is the stage in your deadly encounter with Dr. Voodoo, and it is unlike any boss I have ever faced. Completely original ideas are hard to come by a year into the games life span, but ST proves there is still originality brewing here in the community. Welcome back ST!!We've been seeing quite a few boss battles recently on account of the community contest, many of which are excellent. Here, SeekingTruth86 has constructed a level with his trademark superb visuals, and great atmosphere, but what makes it it stand out for the spotlight is its really unique call-and-response dance challenge mechanic. Totally unlike anything else I've played on LBP.Wow! Now that's how a boss battle is done. This level is half epic fight, half survival challenge, and all fun. The only thing that upstages SeekingTruth86's incredible corner editing and sticker skills is the ridiculously entertaining dodge-the-attack gameplay. Glad to have you back ST, we've missed you.
Silhouette Citykaiju_kid/Kaiju_Kid
http://i625.photobucket.com/albums/tt338/jcua28/kaiju.jpgA dark city that will brighten your day. A visit will shed some light on the situation. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V8mIMzWwZpU

This is a level that completely blew me away. Lovely, voluptuous character designs coupled with some of the most unique platforming I have ever had the joy of playing. Incredible in every way, this is a level that I can't seem to stop playing. Please don't stay gone for too long KK, we will sure miss you.I first got wind of this level after publishing Sprocket Town, when KK mentioned to me that he too had been working on a silhouette-based level. Oh, and it would have to turn out to be absolutely brilliant and totally beautiful, wouldn't it? No, really, this is a wonderful level and well worth checking out. A joy to behold and equally engrossing to play.Kaiju_kid does it again with a whimsical, artsy romp through cartoony vistas displayed in profile. Platform on purses, go for a dip in the pool, and marvel at the scenery in what is undoubtedly one of LBP PSP's best looking creations. The only level that could possibly be any better than Lifespan or The Beauty of Grey is a perfect blend of the two, and that's exactly what Silhouette City is.

You know a LBP community project is off to a solid start when the sneak peek prequel is a full-blown VelcroJonze level. Race gates and bubble combos mix freely with wintry vistas and loads of holiday cheer in this sugar-sweet charmer of a creation. Learn about the Twelve Days of Christmas project and enjoy the credits, all while going for the high score. Deck the halls... with point bubbles! From a master of classic platforming and streamlined visuals comes the prequel of an exciting new series to start off your holidays. Race your way through the snowy landscape, following the trail of point bubbles to a multitude of merriment. On the first day of Christmas, VJ gave to me... A gift on the PSP!

A magnificent congratulations creators! Way to keep creating even with the beta out. You guys--all of you--are awesome! :D

How many people are on the spotlight team? I noticed 4 this week but saw another name last week.
It varies hugely, but officially we have ten. A few have been away for quite some time, and others are taking a week or two off (which happens every time due to... *gasp*... real life ;)). This week the US side of things had Thanksgiving, and I barely got to the Spotlight myself! So... generally 4-5 work on a spotlight each time. In-depth enough? :)

The time and effort you guys put into these spotlights is amazing and it really shows a strong dedication to the lbpc community. Keep up the good work. My PSP level The Cat Tyrant didn't get spotlighted??

I HATE THIS SITE!! D:<

Now before you start saying I'm conceited, consider this, all of the PSP levels spotlighted are by big-name creators...and uhh...who are the spotlight crew for PSP? BIG-NAME CREATORS!!
It's completely biased and unfair.
My level was much funner than seekingtruth's, but no, you spotlight their's because it's by a popular creator.

How do you think that makes me feel? Just because my levels don't get appreciated, I still spend a month working my butt off to make my BEST LBP level, PS3 or PSP, and it gets NO CREDIT in this, simply because it was competing against popular creators' levels. And I didn't even get spotlight nod.
Can't you guys give us more unknown creators a chance?! (talking to the ALREADY very popular creators) You are already very popular!!

Well, my point, it's very unfair that just because my levels aren't well known, you guys bias towards the more popular creator's levels, and it's COMPLETELY unethical, unfair, and prejudice.

Just try to tell me what I did wrong, the only explanation could be that you didn't play it, or the truth, that you guys only care about the more popular creators' levels.

Thanks a lot LBPC, you ruined my day. D:<

**** YOU AND ALL OF LBPC!! D:<

I would like to come to the defense of my fellow spotlighters, and SeekingTruth. Sackbot, I can understand your frustration with not getting spotlighted. Not every level I have ever made has made it up here. The process of a level getting spotlighted is completely unbiased. We (the spotlight team), play every level that comes through this site. They all get played. Including yours. It is not an easy job. There are lots of levels, and lots of time invested in playing them.

I hope you understand that not everything will be spotlighted. The reason the popular creators are popular, and they get their levels spotlighted, is because they deserve to be. I am not saying your level is bad. It is good. I enjoyed it. And I appreciate the fact that you spent so much time into making it.

But, for you to come in this thread and to say the things you did, and saying that your level is more fun than another is not right. It's not right, and it makes you look like childish. To get respect from your peers is something you must earn. Saying the things you said will get you nothing. Except a reputation of a sore loser.

Hey all,

Wowsa...that is one snazzy list! I would like to thank each and every one of you for continuing to make fantastic levels after all this time. Your commitment to this game is a sure sign that you'll make it to the spotlight one day if you haven't already done so. :)

Congratulations to all the spotlightees; I look forward to seeing more of you up there someday. Keep up the great work, and please continue to impress shock me! :D

Wildly applauding,

I wish, poms isn't that good of a creator but because he's poms he gets spotlighted if he published my level he would get spotlighted

over 50,000 plays and over 10,000 hearts and over 10 people copies on THE BUNKER ALONE...yep....poms isn't that good of a creator :/ (hoping Mods don't ban me for that sarcasm...felt called for) anyways I can read off that names up there that I've never heard of before and I've been with LBP since day one and LBPC for like 2 years

you're being conceited, and biased yourself against well reviewed creators...they aren't "famous"...if they are how come when I say their names to friends at work they ask who those guys are? and why are there no movies/tv/music videos in FOX/CNN/CBS/NBC? i think people use "famous" very loosely around here.

anyways who are you to say that your level is much "funner" then others? the spotlight crew were specially selected by LBPC to be the most qualified to select the BEST levels out there to spotlight. your level may be good but in their specifications it wasn't one of the best and you just have to take that and use it as motivation to improve on. popular creators are constantly spotlighted because they DESERVE the spotlight. they make levels that use many of the tools Mm has created and use them in various ways to make their levels visually appealing, challenging, and fun. they don't get a "spotlight free" card just for having their name on some blog or on Mm's page.

as for unknown creators? I can go back to a few spotlights, EVEN THIS ONE and see some creators and usernames I've never SEEN before in my time here in LBPC/LBP and that's a LOOOOOOOOOONG time.

also no offense but maybe use a dictionary before using big words like "unethical" since that doesn't seem to fit with what you've said...

as for being prejudice you're the one being prejudice...prejudice means you're basically hating on something without knowing about it...which is what you're doing about the spotlight and it's members. having known them you would change your opinions about them because you understand them. but to me it seems all you care about is being spotlighted and nothing else :/ .

in the end, what you did wrong was barge in here and started ranting at LBPC and cursing at us without knowing us because all you wanted was a spotlight....so in short...for being prejudice

anyways a shame you had to go down this road and curse out an entire site just because you didn't have any personal gain out of it...hopefully you'll see this as a learning experience and grow from it. because as of right now your attitude seems to show me that you don't deserve a spotlight, much less a place in this great site and community

/rant

and sorry if this clutters the thread or causes trouble

to go back on topic i will say this:

I'm happy to see the first 3 levels being steampunk/-like...love that genre-ish type style :)

Thanks so much to the Spotlight team for their hard work. I’ve played all the PS3 Spotlighted levels, and I’m so proud my level is in that awesome list.
Congrats to all the creators in there.
I wasn’t going to reply the few complainers about the Spotlight, but I’d like to say a few words to “Original Creator”, because I also remember your in game feedback: “Overrated, like you”.
Long time ago, when I still wasn’t a famous creator, many other creators were getting thousands of plays everyday, while my two levels had barely a few hundreds of plays. I felt kind of frustrated, but I wasn’t thinking of how overrated those famous levels were. I thought that a Dinosaur level, a costumes level with Spiderman in its batch, and some other good ideas were the reason those levels were there.
One thing I’m sure of, and is that in LittleBigPlanet, such as in real life, nobody gets anything for free. There are NO overrated creators here. If someone makes something and gets a ton of plays, it’s because this fellow (creator or not) had a successful idea.
In LBP anyone can say “X” is better than “Y”, but all this stuff is just subjective. There are nearly 4 million levels out there, and making a well made level, is not enough to capture the attention. I always try to introduce something new in my levels, and if it’s not new or someone else’s idea, I try to improve this idea and make it so much better that it seems new (which is different that just copy an idea).
Well, I don’t want to extend this post eternally, but dude, just let me tell you, being famous doesn’t make things easier for me, because I get a lot of free strict criticism, haters, "ok-poms-blow-my-mind-or-you're-crap"… etc.
And finally, I could give you some advice about play rhythm, frustrating contraptions, multiplayer compatibility, unexpected endings, illumination, “wow factors”, overdecorating… but you maybe don’t want to hear it coming from such an “overrated” creator.
Good luck.

Congratulations especially to Sabre, sorry again. I do have something to say to the disgruntled ones...
This sort of thing is where the men get separated from the boys " sorry ladies, you know what I mean". If you look up any history on anybody famous, you'll see success never came easy for them. The reason why people do get famous is because they never gave up when it didn't work out for them and instead of using that angry energy to rage against others ,they put it back into their work. Hopefully you're still reading this thread OC because I liked your levels and I do believe they could be spotlighted.

Big round of applause and congradulations to eveyone who made it to the spotlight this time around. I see it got a bigger set of levels this time around and that's a good sign! :p Glad "Trouble In The Canyons" made the spotlight, that was a really fun level to play. Looking forward to the next creator and level spotlight and mucho big thanks to the spotlight team, we all owe you a big 'ole piece of cookie!

Well done to all the levels in the spotlight! I'll try to play them if I could just get away from GT5 for a few minutes!

And as for this little bit of controversy I see going on, don't be too disheartened if your level doesn't make it into the spotlight. That doesn't mean it's a bad level! And as for the choosing of levels being bias, i'd have to disagree with that.

Yes, if a big name creator publishes a level, it is more likely to get spotlighted than not. But remember, these guys are big name for a reason; the levels rock! :D

But, i've experienced the opposite of what 'sackbot14' and 'Originalcreator' have said.
My level 'Funktion Junktion"= 40,000 plays - 5 stars - no spotlight. My level 'Mechanical Engineering' 2000 plays - 4 Stars - Spotlighted.

I trust that the spotlight team do a good job, long may they reign!

That sentence reads more accurately if you replace 'Big name creator' with 'Good creator'.

I am completely new to this community and I got a chance. Praise can be a very motivating and heartwarming thing, but don't make it your single goal or -- like money or power -- you will never feel you are getting enough of it. Create and share not for fame and glory, but because you feel passionate about it.

Ask yourself: not getting the recognition you were hoping for, does it mean your month of work was wasted?
I hope your answer is "no".

Hello again.

Came back...and this is exactly what I expected.

A bunch of you guys would start to make big posts to rebud my arguement and look like a hero to others.

However, you all still fail to see my point.

I wouldn't expect any more from any of you to go more in-depth into my post and notice the meaning of it.

You all seemed that I was mad that I didn't get spotlighted, but that's not it.

Sorry for putting that earlier message on the thread, but I'm still sad that none of you can take another look at my post to find out what I really meant.

You won't be hearing from me anymore.
Goodbye LBPC, take care.

You are just making yourself look like a fool now.

Have you ever heard of Hellobob5? No, but yet he got 2 (not one but two!) spotlights despite being his first levels published on LBPC. If that doesn't open your eyes, I guess nothing will.

Sackbot, both me and Antikris only have one level on LBP, (I'm pretty sure Kris only has one...) and we are by no means famous names on this site. I joined October, and Kris joined in November. The showcase isn't partial to famous creators, only good ones. And if one of those good creators happens to get famous, good for them. That's just my 2 cence anyway.

Yep... my first level was Spotlighted too! and nobody knew me!
How can you give for granted you deserve to be Spotlighted and others not?
IF YOU GET SPOTLIGHTED: GIVE THAKS.
IF YOU DON'T GET SPOTLIGHTED: CONGRATS TO THE SPOTLIGHTED CREATORS.
Anything else than this, is a lack of respect to the Spotlight team and the spotlighted creators.
You will have to learn this sooner or later, and if not, you can leave ;)

Yep.. I'd say I'm sorry abut my earlier post.
But not too long ago, the spotlight used to be a celebration, a creator's party. Some of the posts I've had to read are personal attacks, and this is really discouraging.
