About IMPORTING!

Alright. I want to know how to import LBP1 costumes on LBP2. I really would like to have this all covered so I won't be spending most of my time on LBP2 trying to figure out how to get my saved costumes and EVERYTHING from LBP1 to LBP2! Can someone please explain this to me! :(

It's part of your profile, so when you import your profile, you'll get your costumes. When you first start LBP2 for the first time it asks if you'd like to import your profile, but just in case, I'd suggest making a backup copy of your most recent profile, and check if there's any inconsistency, and if there is, go to settings and import the backup you made.

In the beta it'd load old profiles at the beginning for some reason.

In LBP1: In your Pod, go into the start menu, and under settings select "Backup Profile". Save it to your HDD.

Go to LBP2.

In LBP2: In your Pod, go into the start menu, and under settings select "Import Profile". Select it from your HDD.

Okay, I have my profile backup! But I can't save it to my HDD... It just saves to my Save Data Utility folder. Is that the same thing as HDD?

What does importing your profile actually mean? I was told practically the same thing by someone else earlier today. Does importing your profile erase anything? Is it a good thing to do?

Well, it is replacing the blank LBP2 save file created when you put the disk in for the first time with a new LBP2 save file which has all of your things from LBP1 in it.


So yes, it is good. And HDD and Save Data utility are the same thing..... I suppose.

I thought it automatically asks you if you want to import your profile when you first play LBP2?

Yeah it does, but this is a just in case kind of thing. Every piece of information saved to the PS3 is on the "HDD", Hard Disk Drive. The "Saved Data Utility" is just a folder.

It's very simple. LBP1 -> Backup PRofile , LBP2-> Import Profile

Oh, my suggestion is that you may want to clear some space, because if it's the exact same thing of the beta, you will reach soon your max storage capability...100 costumes, 100 pics...

Will I be able to finish story mode on a blank LBP2 profile, and then import my stuff from LBP1? I really want to have a blank start at first. :(

That's 200 max costumes... and its been over a year last time 100 was the max.
and yeah when you push import collected objects it adds everything from a old profile,
also if you already had over 100 costumes like me it'll randomly delete some to add the imported ones.
i had to use a back-up profile to fix it after that mistake. xD *mew

That happened even to me, so watch out people.

So maybe the best thing to do would be just to delete some costumes that you don't wear anymore. And I'm probably going to import all my stuff when I start the game because I don't want any of my LBP2 stuff getting overwritten O.e

The most old stuff gets deleted first when you import,
i believe anything you heart won't get deleted no matter what. *mew

So if I have about 30 costumes and 20 levels, should I even delete anything? Because I just deleted all of my useless objects, pictures, levels, and costumes. But I have two backups, one in which I deleted everything I didn't want or need, and one with ALL of my levels and ALL of the junk. (keep in mind that's still only about 20 levels. So should I import my cleaned out profile or the other one?

it depends. there are two things you can do.
#1 Import your profile from LBP1. #2 Import your collected objects from LBP1,
This well be everything from your popit, So not levels etc.
if you use #2 it adds to your profile, does not replace anything,
and if you go over any limit, like costumes, it'll replace the most old stuff
with new stuff from the import first. *mew

Well, then just back up your levels to the HDD and pick
what ones you want on your Moon/Delete what ones you don't want.
Also if you pick import LBP1 profile, it'll import everything same as a profile back-up does,

Reason i'm guessing it did that was because like you said you did not use Old Profile from start,
it saw you as a different user because of that i'm guessing so it would not let you
import stuff as it saw as another person, my advice? make sure to use the profile import soon as you load up LBP2,
so your just gonna have to deal with having lost your progress in LBP2 more then likely. :/ *mew

If you didn't get asked at the start, that probably means there's no valid LBP1 profile from which to import.

Which seems to suggest the same.

Won't help. The "Import Goodies from LBP1" option will only work with your profile in Game Data, not profile backups in Save Data.

That would seems to be your only choice. Better to get it out of the way now and just lose a couple of levels completed, than wait till later to find you'll have to lose more progress.

However, there are report that profiles which were copied from another user won't import into LBP2 (either way) - if this is the case with yours, then you're out of luck - you'd have to start LBP1 from scratch with a new profile.

Thanks for this post. My original import got messed up and I didn't have my custom costumes. Reimporting did the trick.
