View Full Version : Any One Else Feel Story Mode Is Too Easy?

I feel like the new story is waaay to easy. I never even failed a level. It also feels a little short. Maybe, its because i'm a total pro at the game ;) Tell me what you think.

I guess I'm worse than I thought.

The only level I've failed at is one with a chase scene where you don't get any extra lives, and the reason I failed so many times is because I was going after the prize bubbles with no regard to the risk of dying. Yeah, I suppose they're easy to beat, but getting all the prize bubbles adds a bit of challenge, and, despite their easiness, the levels are way more fun than the ones from the LBP1 story.

The levels are a lot harder than the first game in my opinion, but they're also more fun!

level links = 1.5 to 2 times larger levels, even less by count, offers more play time than 1 did. also the survival + bonus levels actually have goals and play vale this time. electric chocolate or whatever it's called is as long and developed as the biggest LBP1 story levels

i aced everything already on 1 PSN, and its easy to us, but i can tell these levels are tougher than LBP1's

Yea, just running through the levels is a piece of pie, if I had been speedrunning through or even just taking my time last night I would already have the game beat. But trying to get all the bubbles, ace the level, and do the score/survival challenges adds a nice layer of difficulty on top. I mean I only just made it to Factory of Better Tomorrow, but I do have a decent majority of the bubbles, just missing some really hidden ones and the co-op bubbles so far. It's not so difficult as it is engaging and fun, though, especially since the levels are made to be beaten, haha.

I think it is because it is we are all more experienced imo, but I had trouble and had to go into "clutch mode" for some levels because my friends and I think its funny to grab each other mid jump just to die lol. This game is defiantly harder then lbp1 but it's our experience that makes it easy.i say you do what my friends and I do to make the game harder, try really hard to kill the other players in a non verses level and see if you get to the end.

I feel they are both short, and far too easy... for the most part. I'm not a great platformer by any means, and I'm finding very little difficulty acing any of them. As for the short part, looks like the smaller Thermo issue is affecting Mm as much as it is us. I wonder if level links are a result of smaller thermo, or if it was really just a "new idea".

In one way I like the easy aspect as it will get me all my create materials quicker... but on the other hand it feels kind of cheap. Either way, I still love this game!

Having aced the levels with LBP1 I found LBP2 to be much harder. Man, to go back to green gardens seems like such a vacation. I also DESPISE the speed runs and prize bubbles to get the prizes unlocked by your score! Not fair! haha.

Eh, well it sure is a lot more fun and replayable than LBP. For example, I could play the level in The Cosmos with the multiplayer Creatinator rocket war all day long. I remember on the demo, I was playing the level with my nephews for a little over half of an hour. Amazing game.

Sivious

Much harder than the first one. A lot of us got a lot of training on the physics of LBP1. We were trained and trained well to play LBP2.

I find it hard to believe that people have Aced every single level and unlocked every single item they could, went back when they had proper stickers and got the rest the first try.

Well, I've already finished the game and Aced every level save 4... maybe 5 at the most. Like I said, I'm not a great platformer, and really spend most of my time creating rather than playing. After finishing in 2 days with most levels Aced... I'm a firm believer this game is easier.

I've got the final boss to ace, and then i should have em all. I'd have to agree its the training that's making this seem easy, though. Some of the stuff is really general and easy, yea, but some of it is freaking diabolical! Also, I hate the tower of whoop with a white hot, fiery passion....

Collecting the items is what makes the story mode fun I think. Makes it ore challenging otherwise wizzing through a level is a peice of cake! ( im talking as if i have the game :( !!!!! )

Where to start...

Ok, I think the levels are deeper, offer more replay value, and are generally more fun than LBP1. So far I've aced everything, collected almost all prize bubbles, and am in top (or was) 5% on all scoreboards... Even with that said-- I've found it very challenging to master. It is an 'E' game, anyone can run through it... it's supposed to be that way.

@Rustbukkit-- While I know the thermometer was redesigned... all my LBP1 levels are alotted way more room under the new thermometer. (maybe it's just me and the way I build), but that means longer levels to me! :hrmf:

I'm really enjoying the story levels...much improved over LBP1. Sure I'm able to ace them easily but the ones I've played so far have been really fun. They also seem to give better hints/direction for collecting items so getting 100% for create mode hasn't been a chore. Maybe once I'm done I'll wish there were even more story levels but the difficulty I think is fine and will allow lots of people to enjoy these levels.

I just wish MM would stop putting token multi-player sections in the story levels it makes it a real pain to collect all the items (I only play solo)...would be much better if they created some full multi-player cooperative platforming levels (for score only) instead of the odd mini-game.

Please refrain from self-proclaiming yourself "pro" as it won't end good most of the time since many people get offended or mad or something, idk...

Also, refrain from doings so by simply saying you finished the story mode, its not meant o be impossible, and the fact that there are infinite life-checkpoints in this one also helps the fact to make it seem 'easier.'

Perhaps it was merely more fun, that's why it seemed better/ easier, while in fact it was equaly or slightly more challenging.
(Again, inf. life checkpoints also mean not having to restart so often, not to mention the did add waaaay more double-life CPs too, compared to 1's story, which had many, this had very few, if any.

Now go ahead and Ace them all (like I just did a few mins ago. :p) letes see if you can stil think they were easier w/out the infinite lives and the chance to mess up, go on, give it a try. :p

Besides all that checkpoint stuff, also remember thatyou already know what yer doing for this story mode, while the 1st time you played 1's story mode, you had no idea how to play or had the hang of things.

So...yeah, better analize everything before deciding such things. ;)

As for the short part, looks like the smaller Thermo issue is affecting Mm as much as it is us. I wonder if level links are a result of smaller thermo, or if it was really just a "new idea".

Like Gravel said, the thermos way kinder to me, and it even proclaims it's improvements in tutorials.

Anything MM did link-wise has been for pacing, eliminating filler and subpar sections, and knowing when to stop. All good habits that creators should have... especially the one's with triple the thermo, double the lag, and half the consistency. Quality over quantity, though it's not impossible to have both, it's also one of the reasons aceing an epic MM level is not only doable, but compelling, rewarding and fun. Hour long death machines are sadistic, but a 1/2 full race with smart point placement, chains, and reliable & fun obstacles is worth replaying 20 times to get the #1 spot.

Just my school of thought on it.

It's suppose to be easier, for the kids, so it is more accessible to everyone.
Maybe they had complaints of Lbp1 being too hard for children?

NinjaMicWZ

^^^I think aceing requires alot more dexterity in later levels... especially the grappling shock team parts in cosmos. I even noticed they used some visual hints in that candy level to tell you when it was safe to pass... ie: the pink jelly build up on every other slot under the gas jelly splat spout. They definitely at least tried to expand how the 'my 1st 2D platformer!' crowd thinks and plays in a subtle way. having multi button functions (like R1 to stop quick on rabbit) also trains them to play in an ever so slightly more complex way.

i hope it leads to 5% less rage quits in puzzlers, challenging platformers, and games with a control scheme that the player has to read for a second. they might even aquire the habit of pressing every button to see what it does, or looking around and trying different things.

fingers crossed.

To be honest, I've not yet gone in and checked my levels and how the thermo is now affecting them. I can tell you with certainty, that in the beta several were horribly reduced in thermo and I was rittled with the "There Is Too Much Complexity In This Area" message and those annoying exclamation marks. After reading your statements though, it gives me some hope that it was just a Beta issue. I'll admit too that I'm not very savvy in the tricks used to build more effeiciently with regards to cheating the thermo, so it could be that your building methods are more effective in this regard. Food for thought on my part I guess.

Don't get me wrong. I'm certainly not complaining about the length. It does "feel" shorter to me, and I honestly don't think it's entirely a matter of "being used to the controls and gameplay" more than I was when I first played the game. Might be because it's better designed, more fun, better story, more Unlimited Life CP's, level links breaking up the monotany... or any comination thereof.

I'lll admit that I subscribe to your school of thought. I much prefer this type of fun gaming to the hour long death machine levels as well. Let's face it... this game is far above and beyond the first game, and what many of us had hoped for or expected this time around. This thread is about the game "feeling" easier. I guess the nice thing is that none of us are wrong on this... because "feel" is very subjective in this case.

Now, I just need to go check the thermo on my levels and see if it was just a Beta issue, Ace those 2 remaining levels, and find some happy gadders to get the multiplayer prizes with so I can complete my building materials list to add to the rest of the amazing new ones. Oh... don't get me started on new materials awesomeness! ;)

I think they're too easy so far but the difficulty seems spot on for the casual gamer who's not intending to ace every level. I just entered "the cosmos" - last world? I aced everything up to that so far. When I've aced every world I intend to find 3 players and collect every object.

the fact is if its too easy people are going to complain, and if they make it really hard.. casual gamers will cry out in agony.. I think they made it alright, could have been a tad bit harder in my opinion.. I have already aced, and 100% goodies the entire game. Now its on to learning to use the stuff i got in create..

The first LBP was definately harder to ace though, expecially the level with the GIANT wheel you had to run through.. i remember almost clapping when i aced it lol..

there arent any levels that took me more than 5 tries to ace in LBP 2...

I think they focused more on create mode than they did main story being difficult..

look at mod nation.. when they first released it, it was UBER hard to beat. but you HAD to beat it in order to unlock all the goodies... casual games flooded the internet giving the game a bad rap, and so they patched it and made it easy to beat the game so you can have those goodies that would have taken hours upon hours to earn,,,

Taking everything into account (the experience from the first game, the new power ups and content, ESPECIALLY the age group it's geared to) I'd have to say this wasn't a hard game by any means... I think the real challenge is the acing aspect. Not the first few worlds but, my god, 'Where in the World is Avalon Centrifuge' beat the living hell outta me. No, the real content comes from us, the players, so I say if you wanna make an uber challenging level GO FOR IT! Ill certainly want to play it!

BTW This is coming from a man who knows hard games.... (0 kills, 0 deaths, 0 alerts, 0 damage, 0 health items Big Boss Extreme mode on MGS4) ;)

I beat story mode in 4 days and could have easily done it in 2. It's definitely easy for anyone who has experience with 2D platformers. I've been playing them since Super Mario on the NES so I'm way past experienced. Not to mention I've also been playing Donkey Kong Country Returns for the past few weeks. Now that's a tear inducing game. So in comparison LBP2 is a dream.

I'd always go back to LBP 1's story levels to help noobs or use different techniques to get through them. LBP2's level paths seem more linear - I doubt it'll have the replay value as they're also easier to ace. Very impressive and fun for the time being though.

I'm at the mid of Avalonia with 3 hours of play time and taking the time to ace most of the levels and getting all the prizes of the minigames.
Until now the game has been pretty easy.
Gonna see what happens in the next levels.

I played & aced all story levels in 3 days.
But mind you, i could tell LBP2 is much harder then LBP1.
I only did it in under half a week. because I'm good at LBP as i play it more then any other game
for over 2 years now.

So if you think it feel to easy. It's not. it just means your much better at playing the game then you were
when you first got LBP1. *mew

Acing is about the same difficulty as the first. General play is easier but I'm putting that down to having to introduce more new gameplay elements.

I completed the story in less than a day. LBP1 story took more than a month for me to complete but maybe that's because it was less engaging.
To difficulty however, I found it around the same as LBP1. I think it seems easier as you're a lot more engaged therefore don't get bored and get a bit lazy with the controls.
Acing is much harder than the first game, though. With the new gameplay elements it is a lot more challenging.

Totally agree, the final levels of LBP 1 were an absolute pain in the backside, but a challenge. I completed LBP2 (not 100% of course) in one evening.

I think it's easier, but it isn't exactly a cake walk either. ..well except for when you do have cake. lol

I was back in LBP1 last week helping a few friends claim some missing prizes from when their accounts didn't import properly. While I was much better at them after a few years, some levels took us quite a few passes to get through and were pretty darn tricky.

I would love to see Media Molecule or any other creators making levels with tons of extreme challenging puzzles and gameplay elements. Nearly every level is just a little run-through and maximum about 10 minutes long. I want to have parts where I have to think about what to do next for 30 minutes.

The negativitron is one of the easiest levels I think.

I found it more challenging and difficult, and if it were any more difficult I would have given up on it, and never finish it. Games shouldn't only be about difficulty and challenging. Sometimes easy (or medium to easy) games can be just as entertaining and fun to play. I don't play games for challenge (aka frustration, irritation, anger inducing mechanics), I play to relax and have fun.

IMO, the story mode was too short, probally cause there was alot of levels in each creator this time....

But the levels were Much more imaginative and fun to play, pity it was too short :(

ColmiYveul

Finishing LBP2 story is a piece of cake. Most of the checkpoints seem to be double checkpoints now, and the first world is filled with unlimited checkpoints.

But acing or getting every prize is another task. Full Metal Rabbit, Where in the World is Avalon Centrifuge, and hey, even the fireflies level is hellish to ace.

I only regret the lack of x2/x3/x4 sections. Even if I don't have many friends online, it makes the story mode longer.

That's called casual gaming, games where a game over screens and such are very rare, where the difficulity never gets too hard but still quite entertaining especially with multiplayer gaming.

I honestly feel LBP2 suffers from the "new epic game" syndrome.

Excessive verbosity, cut scenes everywhere, and limited game play. I am surprised at how much of the game I could ace/100% on my first time, and alone to boot.

On the other hand, it is a lot more convenient to get items when you don't have to find people to coordinate with. So I guess that was what backed that decision. I aced most of the game on the first try, but I have seen people with enough trouble as it is. Also the vehicle sections give you a health bar so you don't die instantly on contact with hazards, so that also makes things a little "Easier". All in all, what's there is usually fun at least.

I finally aced the game and got all the prize bubbles. Now I have a nice collection of stuff from LBP1 and LBP2.
I spent probably 2 hrs total trying to ace Where in the World is Avalon Centrifuge?
Now I'm off in the "Wondersphere"
