Boss death triggers gas to dissappear?

I have a bit of a pickle. I have a boss that you fight vertically that's submerged in toxic red gas. What I want to do is have the gas dissappear immideatly after beating the boss so the player doesn't fall straight to their doom.

Anyone got any ideas?

Put a small seperate peice of sponge inside your bosses body, seperate so it doesnt fade when boss dies.

Have it fall into a pit below boss that triggers the gas to dissapear.
