NOW A CO-OP LEVEL! Thanks for the feedback, more changes to come!

Dizzy Wheel Survival Challenge is a single player or co-op level where you get in a giant wheel and get spun while collecting points bubbles while dodging LASERs!

Before the wheel you take a peaceful ride to the wheel. It's pretty much the last break you'll have until you die so enjoy it! ;)

http://i3.lbp.me/img/ft/7239d8815100a6ae167ba0149eba5c98d9f4abde.jpg

Once in the wheel you snatch your grappling hook and stand in the center to start the wheel in motion.

Once the wheel spins you collect point bubbles being spat out by an emitter. Then other emitters kick in for MOAR POINTS!

http://i2.lbp.me/img/ft/752dd10fed5b11c56f0c1b5063ae568ef16bbc6b.jpg

Then along comes water which can wipe your grappling hook off your hand (but you can get them back in the middle of the wheel). The water also will slog you down and keep point bubbles at the top of it. After a bit the sun comes by and away goes the water. (This part has been removed until MM fixes a profile-breaking glitch I discovered)

SURVIVAL: After 16 blissful seconds of bubble collecting, increasingly faster firing, synced LASERS will fire into the wheel. They sweep from the center to outside, so try to stay in the middle of the wheel to live. Of course, the points bubbles are mainly on the edges so it's up to you if you want to get to the points or 'attempt' survival.

As for F4F I can do single or multiplayer levels. :):):):)

MAJOR CHANGES on 2/13 INCLUDE:

REMOVED:
- The blue electro-balls that spawned late into the wheel spinning
- The spinning finish (It now stays still)
- Versus. Now Co-Op
- Multiplayer tag
- 3 Grapple Hook pickups in the center of the wheel. Now there is only 1 at the very beginning and it is undroppable.

ADDED:
+ LASERS! Timed, alternating lasers are now your opponent in the game. Four lasers to be exact, all a different color and location.
+ Logic overhaul. All the old logic from this level's LBP1 days are history. Sequencers, OR, NOR, AND gates are now in-game.
+ Wheel Speed has been reduced. You can now keep up with the wheel, though it is still frantic and you will need your grapple hook to stay alive.
+ Drop kill. If you walk off the platform that takes you to the wheel, I'm sorry but you will now pay for that mistake and die in a plasma bath. ;)
+ Different cameras for Single Player and Multiplayer

RESET SCOREBOARD 2/14 by locking the old level and publishing again. Reason is the scoreboard was needing to be reset since the survival challenge starts so much earlier. Kind of disappointed I can't reset the scores at will, but what can ya' do, right?

Ok, F4F is complete! Thanks for all the feedback!

I played the level alone and loved it! You never seem to disappoint with your levels (sadly, you don't make a lot :().
I'm forever alone on LittleBigPlanet though so I couldn't play it with a friend and fully experience the awesomeness :(

I had to remove the water, folks. I found a profile-breaking glitch and I can't figure out exactly what does it but it has something to do with water, the grappling hook and/or the bounce pads. Basically it makes it so your character can't jump. There is a fix, luckily. Just play the level again and get in the water and you're fine. So water is out. :(

But it's still fun! :D

I've pulled your quote over so I can go over it a tad.

out of all the wheel survival games this one is the best. But was death inevitable or did you have to stay in a certain spot to keep going. When i was play i spawn killed by the circles of death. Also slow down spinning. I could barely keep up.

First, Thank you! That means a lot.

Death is pretty much inevitable. You can dodge the Electro-Balls but it is TOUGH. I may re-do the attack to a laser instead that has lights and does like the top half, then the bottom half and cycles or something. I gotta work it out.

As for the spinning speed it spins slightly faster than a sackboy can run. Reason being is otherwise you can just run at the top or bottom and not care about the wheel spinning. But with the grappling hook and bounce pads you should be able to navigate pretty good and pull off some cool combos.

Thanks for reviewing!

I've queued yours up as well. Is there an F4F for it anywhere?

EDIT: I found your F4F

Oh, man that sucks. Well, whenever you get around to it, return the F4F. Thanks for letting me know.

+ I had some fun playing it. Was not frustrating to play.
- Level design could use some work. The level is very artificial. Why are the players in a spinning circle thing. Why are points emitted into it?
- Game-play is too static. You collect points in the same area for a few minutes and then die. I didn't play it with another player so this might not be valid.

Guys, question for those of you who have or are about to play this (after you played it, of course): Do you think this should stay a Versus level or do you think it's more suited as a co-op level? I'm torn on this personally.

Glad to see there was no frustration. As for basically coming up with a story or reason for being in th wheel, there really is none. It's just supposed to be a silly, fun, mindless level.

As for the static gameplay I think I am going to remove the exploding balls and put some work into lasers with warning lights. I think it will make it a bit more challenging and maybe add to the craziness.

Looks:

The level is brightly lit and decorated, with a dark theme running behind. It looks fine but I get a little distracted by the nothingness behind the wheel. This is probably just my personal opinion however. Overall it looks good - the paths in the wheel are clear enough that I can see where I'm going, however the electrified balls were a little non distinct to begin with. I suppose this adds to the challenge but the first time I was killed I didn't know what by! lol!

Playability

Overal very playable, however I get the feeling you've lost some of the excitement from this level due to the changes you have had to make to prevent profile glitches (for which I commend you of course). I like your idea of sequenced lazers - not only will it add a different dimension to the level but it will allow for some strategizing too. You know how we all love to look for patterns as players, and find ways to beat them!

Regarding Versus vs Co-op. I'd say go with a straightforward Co-Op Survival Challenge. Even though I find most survival challenges lend themselves well to Versus mode, it doesn't often feel quite right, and for me personally this was the case with your level. What's wrong with a straightforward highscore challenge afterall? :P

Overall:

A definate yay, and I'm looking forward to seeing furher improvements.

F4F

If you would be able to review my versus level, I'd be very grateful. F4F linky (http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?48444-Little-Big-Robot-Wars-Versus)

Thanks a lot for that great input, rialrees. Iíve put your level into my queue so next time I am in-game with some friends we will jump in. Hopefully today.

I think I know what youíre saying regarding the emptiness. By the fact I have no background? HmmÖ Iíd have to come up with something to plop there.

Yeah, I think lasers is the way to go, too and I Iíll be making the change to co-op. I, too think it makes more sense the more I think about it.

The changes regarding the water glitch did make kind of a long lull, I think. But adding lasers that fire occasionally and then get more difficult should change all of this.

Thanks so much!

Ok dude, I played it. I loved the design, but 1 thing. Isn't it supposed to be a survival? Me and my friend played for about 10 minutes and we didn't die, there wasn't even a way of dying.. So maybe add some hazards? Then it will be great.

I have this level queued now, and will play it and review it tonight.

Unfortunately, I'm unable to access a computer that often, so I am only able to post reviews of your level on the Little Big Planet 2 game. Having said this, I will post a good review with honest opinions and suggestions.

Hope you don't mind, apologies for any inconvenience.

In return, could you please play and review my level in my signature.
When you review it, I don't mind if you post a review on this website or the game, but if you don't mind, I'd prefer the review to be in game, but either works.

Thanks, apologies once again for any inconvenience!

Much appreciated.

Pros: Very frantic and zany. I felt like I was trapped inside a carnival ride with a grappling hook. I like the general layout of the level.

Cons: I wasn't sure what the point was because it has survival in the title but I felt like I was just collecting score bubbles for a few minutes until those electric balls showed up. I started to lose interest after a minute or two because I did feel like I was being challenged to stay alive.

Conclusion: I think you have a fun idea with the spinning wheel but it could use a little more survival and a few less score balls.

Hmm... There should be balls that come out at some point.

As for the other reviewers, there is a pretty LARGE change coming and the balls are coming out and lasers that will fire and sweep (all happening EARLIER, too) will come in. There will be patterns and everything so it should be challenging and ramping in difficulty. It'll be a while and I'll post in here once it's published as there is quite a bit of logic and aesthetic design for me to hash out.

Thanks for the reviews! If you need me to review in return I will on Sunday or Saturday.

Hey man, I just played this, I was almost turned off of it because it said Multiplayer, but it seemed to work great single player! Very fun honestly, basically mindlessly getting points and chaining them to get combo bonuses. Worked well! Really awesome but it seems like it works fine singleplayer so you might want to go ahead and say it does? Lol I dont know, I have just heard some bad juju about multiplayer levels not doing so well >.> anyway, aside from that I did notice what someone else said, there isnt really anything to kill you til all at once something spawned and killed me in about 2 seconds. Kinda weird, it also was spinning a little fast, I think slowing it down slightly I would be able to control myself a bit better which adds more strategy. Just some suggestions, overall it was really fun and I enjoyed it! I'd appreciate F4F on my versus level Firefight VS if you have the time!

Pros

The idea is good and I havn't seen it done before.
The background surely does make you busy, so the name fits it well.

Cons

The title is survival challenge, which usally begins as soon as you enter the level. However, this is not the case. You have a good 3 minute wait before anything that can actually kill you enters the wheel, and even then it's almost impossible to not die, or at least great skill is needed.

Overall

The idea was good, but apart from that it's not really worth playing. I would only recommend playing this level if you don't mind waiting for it to begin and if you believe you have alot of skill at dodging plasma obstacles. It needs work, but not a bad start.

In return, please try and review my levels in the signature.

Much appreciated!

Ok, everybody the Dizzy Wheel has undergone MAJOR SURGERY thanks to your input!

REMOVED:
- The blue electro-balls that spawned late into the wheel spinning
- The spinning ending (It now stays still)
- Versus.

Basically it is now made so being in the middle is the safest, but being on the edge gets you the most points (since that is where the bubbles spawn and mostly stay).

If I owe anyone a F4F I will get it dome this week Mon - Tue. If you've reviewed this already I really look forward to you checking it out again since so much has changed.

THANKS!

And one more change, I have republished this level as new, wiping the old scoreboard. With the new, major sweeping changes it was impossible to compete with the old scores so we are now at 0 plays, 0 hearts, 0 everything.

GOOD LUCK!

Thanks for your feedback, here's mine:
I had to play this alone, sorry about that. But your right, this would seem like a really fun level with other people. I could see the competition getting fierce and hilarious. I died via laser, so I'm not sure how far I got and what other hazards could be triggered. The grapple hook was a good idea, it was the only way I could avoid the laser. I would add more background stuff or lights to make it more visually interesting.
I would definitely reccommend this level to be played with other sackfolk but it does still work as a single player survival. I gave it a "Yeah!"

I played this level and I liked.
Positive:
The idea is pretty good
I liked collecting bubbles
It's pretty hard when the lasers come, and thats good.
Colourfull

Negative:
I had the feeling that it was to small, may be it would have been cooler when the spinning wheel was twice as big.
I think there were to much bounce pads, I could'nt go trough the narrow places without hitting them.

The level is still fun to play! I hope you make some more survivals!

Ah, cool! Didn't realize you played. Glad you liked it.

With a larger wheel, the issue in multiplayer arises where you can't tell who is who and it's easy to get lost. Sometimes I almost feel this wheel is too big.

In any case, I was coming here to post the following changes based on everyone's feedback:

I have added a simple background. It's artsy. ;)
I changed where you pick up the grappling hook. It is now picked up before you get on the lift.
I have made it impossible to fall off the lift. No more falling thru the crack between it and the main entrance.
Put my name in the level.
Changed how you start the wheel. It is now a sensor of all once you are IN the wheel, not standing in a specific spot. There is a delay (a timer) that I left visible that counts up until the wheel spins.
Adjusted the lasers slightly.

Not many LBP levels manage to panic me, but this one does. It's the anxious anticipation of trying to guess where the next laser will fire from. It is definitely one of the most frantic levels I've ever played, which is a great thing. The design is good, the game-play is good, the challenge is good.

My only criticism:

1. This is a personal preference, but maybe voice act the instructions at the beginning. You have a good command over your voice.

The lasers are a great addition :) Do they always fire horizontally? I see that an earlier version had water but it was removed due to a glitch? The patch 1.01 was suppose to fix that water/swimming bug so maybe you can revisit water in the level.

The only real change I would suggest is having the wheel rotation speed change as you play. Maybe the laser frequency/orientation could change in the same way but that may be more work then it's worth.

Thanks for returning the F4F. As for the water, now with the lasers it really wouldn't work but that's ok. I like the level more now anyway.

The lasers DO fire vertically. They start up, down, up, down, left, right, left, right and then start changing more and more like going left, down, right, up and then double lasers start up. The longer you last the more difficult it gets. That's where the difficulty comes in vs spinning the wheel faster. Plus the wheel at that size if it gets moving you just get pinned to it and can't do anything.

First of all. I was alone.... sob.... I love playing levels like these together with people in my livingroom!
Absolutely good potential for replays with more people. One thing though: You die easily. Fair enough. But what if you had three lives, or something.
And maybe a score deduction for each time you die?
