View Full Version : Considering making a level...

So I'm one of those people who starts levels and does nothing with them, hence why I've published one level ever.

However, many months ago (I honestly think over a year ago) I got pretty far into a level. It's missing some key components, but the gameplay is there, and with a bit of an overhaul, I think I can touch up and finish the level in a couple hours.

The thing is, I feel like it's not my best work because of how long ago I made it, and because of the way I built it (using pieces that are way too large and that sort of thing), I can't do much more than renovate what's not quite finished. Also, it's kind of an unoriginal idea about a volcano because back when I started it, volcano levels weren't overdone yet.

So should I try to ignore my perfectionist instincts and just publish a halfway decent level, or just leave this one in the creation stage?

I'm struggling with the same problem bro. I have a level about as old as yours that's basically done and it looks really good, but I'm not sure it's up to par with what I can create now. I've gone back in and corner edited and renovated everything but the basic idea of the level was lost halfway through it and although it still looks good, it's kinda random. I'd say don't publish it until it's done because otherwise it looks sloppy and it's basically like admitting to yourself you're giving up and telling others it's not your best work or completed even.

Yeah, it's rough. The thing is my level was almost entirely done in the sense that, you could play through the level and get to the end. My problem is the order I created it in; I didn't bother to put in any of the necessary walls or thin layers that make it playable, so there's like 30 parts where you can "escape" the level. At the time I figured I'd do it later, but it's really discouraging because it is the most tedious and frustrating part for me.
