View Full Version : Changing HD & protected save & LBP profiles

Hi, I‘m down to the last few gig of space on my HD (alas a rather small pathetic 40gb original FAT PS3 hard drive). But I’ve been finding a lot of conflicting info on forums and the web. I've been on other forums but I'm hoping I will get better results here.

My questions are below:

1. What’s the best procedure to upgrade my HD, is there an up to date guide for this? (I’ve seen various things but very old ones, so this may have changed with the new update 3.61? need some clarification on it since 3.61) I have a 500gb HD to put in.

2. I have the odd protected game saves, such as Fat princess and Heavy Rain which I want to keep playing and keep earning those trophies. Do these saves get transferred properly from the back-up I do onto my portable external USB hard drive? I don’t have an option to copy then when I try to do it manually.

3. If I do a disc-image of the back-up on my PC does this help with the protected saves I have? Can I restore from it.

4. Does my PSN profile copy over as well as my game profiles for Little Big Planet 1 & 2 without getting the so called ‘copied save warning message’ that I’ve seen from other people online?

5. Is PS+ (ok it’s free for 30 days due to the PSN outage) the only way to unlock my protected saves?

PS+ Cloud saving will bypass the lock on any save you have.

Thank you for asking this question as my PS3 is on only 500MB!

Are there any guides for using the PS+ cloud features for game saves? I read somewhere that you have to wait 24hrs per game saves.

Well after downloading Infamous and Dead Nation I have 5-7gb left and it won't let me install it to play :( and I've read various things to people LBP1 and LBP2 profiles not carrying over to a new HD or new PS3 and losing stuff. So I've listed my concerns in the questions. Hopefully more people will answer them.

When I tryed to install Infamous after 4 hours of downloading it said an error occurred while installing so I got a bit :moody: Atleast I have 7GB space! But now I have to spend 10 on a game I could of got for free.

4 hours! That is lightening fast compared to my 7 hours plus it took for me to download it. It may be that too many people are downloading it at the same time. I've seen other posts on forums that people have had to delete it then download it again. Even people getting corrupt data in Infamous, so I would try deleting it then downloading it again. Preferably when PSN has calmed down. I'm so fed up that I haven't attempted to get my PS+ yet until later.

Buy an external hardrive and something like a 300GB Sata hardrive for the PS. Backup everything onto the external hardrive (Will take a few hours) Unscrew current hardrive, put in your new one. Then plug external HD back in and hit Restore

I just used one the other night to take it out :kz: Can't remember what it was.
EDIT: Guy from OPM used a pair of Wilkinsons wire clippers and they came out easily

I've ordered it off e-bay as don't want to spen another 4 hours downloading.
