Hullo, it's me and my awesome cat! and we bring you.... LBPC6

Do you think you have a bit of spare time during your holidays for a new contest?
Ok, ok, we'll try to be gentle and make it easy this time, because well...Christmas time approaches and we feel particularly generous :)

http://www.lbpcentral.com/images/LBPCC-6.jpg

First of all we want to thank fumetsusozo (http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/member.php?11038-fumetsusozo), IronSkullKid99 (http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/member.php?11379-IronSkullKid99) and Shadowstarkirby (http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/member.php?21918-Shadowstarkirby) for providing us with the mindblowing sackboys we used in the poster.
It's a both a great pleasure and an honour for us to be able to use the work of some of the most amazing costume creators in Central.
Don't forget to check out their outstanding work!
Again, thanks sooo much on the behalf of the Contest Crew!!!

Are you ready to amaze us with a big epic saga to prove that you're really worthy of a Crown?
For LBPC Contest 6 we want you to get into the holiday mood, gather the sackfolk around the fireplace and tell us the most wonderful story your mind can conjure up.
We want a really EPIC tale, based on the concept of a QUEST and spanning 4 levels (yes, that’s right 4 levels!). We’re looking for a proper story – something more sophisticated and less clichéd than the all too familiar “rescue the prince/princess/cat” storyline!

The story must not be set in the real world, but instead in a place dreamt up by your imagination.
Here are some suggestions for possible settings:

-Dystopia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dystopia)
-Alternate History (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alternate_history)
-Cyberpunk (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cyberpunk)
-Science Fiction (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Science_fiction)
-Fantasy (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fantasy)
-Steampunk (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steampunk)
-Mythology (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mythology)

Then, we have figured out that every cool story has some OMG!WOW! moments, so we want you to include at least 2 of the following scenes/events:

- Riding an unusual beast or machine - This could be an animal or a strange human or alien machine/device or even stranger still, a kind of animal-machine hybrid.
- A chase scene - Basically an epic Run Forrest, Run! scene, because sackfolk always get into trouble.
- A big battle - This could be a battle that the players are involved in, escape from or witness from the sidelines.
- A collapsing environment - We love big explosions, crumbling cities and stuff like that, we like it a lot.
- A big interactive astrolabe - After all, the tale wouldn't be a quest if it didn't involve journeying to an unknown destination or solving some kind of mystery or puzzle.

We also like interactive dynamic stories. We want to feel part of the action, knowing we can't drop our controller but must hold on tight to it. So every one of the 4 levels must be interactive in some way, that means no movie levels or levels which consist almost entirely of long cutscenes.

The 4 levels MUST be published as standalone levels and not as sub-levels.
That may sound particularly picky, but we want to be able to leave the story at a certain point, leave a bookmark and get back to it later without having to start reading again from page 1, just like we can with good old books.
You may lock the levels with keys though, to ensure they have to be unlocked and played in the proper order.

And...that's it! Do you think it's too hard for only one person?
OK, OK, quick, gather some friends and put together a team of four and start to build something mind-blowing, then!
We told you we would be generous this time, so...co-creation contest and a prize multiplied 4x.
4 Crowns, 4 Pins, but we expect 4xAwesomeness.

Building requirements

• Create a 4 level epic saga. The story must have an original plot set in an imaginary world.
• The story has to centre on a QUEST.
• The saga must contain at least 2 of the listed set pieces/events.
• Every level must be interactive in some way.
• The levels must NOT be published as sublevels and must be accessible as stand-alone levels.

How to enter

• Build 4 levels before the deadline that fit the contest description and building requirements.
• Include the text “(LBPC6)” in the title of each level. Don’t forget to add things like a nice looking badge, some tags, and a concise level description.
• Include in the level description the names of all of the other creators in your team.
• Publish your levels before 11:59PM GMT on 31st January, 2012.
• Post LBP.me links to your levels in this thread, so we’re sure not to miss them!
• After the deadline, the judges will bravely set off on a quest themselves to select up to ten semi-finalists based on the scoring criteria below. The creators of the best level series will be pinned/crowned winners!
• The Sackinima team will feature HD recordings of the top three level series on their youtube channel for the whole world to see!

Judging criteria

Levels will be judged according to the following criteria:
• Gameplay – Here, we’re scoring things like fun factor, balanced difficulty and freedom from glitches and bugs.
• Originality – How innovative is your creation? How well did you take the source material to create something unique yet still have it be recognizable?
• Visuals – This is all about how good your level looks. We like detail and lighting and special effects, but try to avoid graphics-induced lag!
• Audio – Sound effects and music are a great way to turn your level into an addictive and immersive experience.

Rules and Regulations

• This contest is open to all ages and all regions. That means anyone can participate!
• All entries must be playable in LittleBigPlanet 2
• You can only enter one level series. Duplicate entries will result in disqualification.
• The contest officially begins on 15th November, 2011 at 12:00am GMT. Previously published entries will not be accepted.
• This is a co-create contest so you must co-create with three other people. You can have one of the team publish all the levels on a single moon or each creator can publish one of the levels on his/her moon. It's up to you.
•The first level of the four must be published unlocked (the succeeding levels may be locked to ensure they are played in the correct order).
• Levels must be published before the deadline with “(LBPC6)” in their title. After the deadline, do not republish. Levels republished after the deadline will be disqualified. Exceptions may be made for quick fixes with respect to level titles, description, badges, or major game-breaking fixes, but only with the prior consent of the contest crew. If you need to request an edit, please post in this thread and send me a PM.
• Levels must be your own creation. Feel free to take inspiration from the world around you and from other levels, but don’t copy someone else’s work outright! That’s just not cool….
• Last but not least, have fun, play fair and respect other creators!

Also a little Handy FAQ for you all

Q: Can I enter a previously published level?
A: No.

Q: Can I enter a level I already have on my moon, but hasn't yet been published?
A: Yes.

Q: Once I've published my entry, can I republish it?
A: You can republish it as many times before the deadline as you like, but not after the deadline.

Q: When will the judging begin?
A: The judges may take a look at some levels prior to the deadline, but the judging proper will not begin until after the deadline.

Q: When will the results be posted?
A: We can't really give any accurate answer to this, but it will be no more than a month after the judging begins.

Good luck everyone!

OOOOK...
About the longer periods of the last contests.
I just wanted to point out that we're not slackers. :p
You might think that because of our long times to announce winners.
But...it's not.
We expanded the time because of the incoming holidays, but more because we want something really extraordinaire.
Our purpose is to try to give ideas and competitions to raise the quality bar of the levels, so...
Good look, good work and don't disappoint us :)

I've been going over ideas for something very similar to the entry requirements for weeks now, but haven't been able to settle for anything without little things I didn't like.

I was so into this, until I read 'Teamwork contest'. Balls.
I've been meaning to enter these competitions since they started, but never really found the motivation. I'm sure as hell not missing this one.

Bah! To the Ostemobile! I must address my loyal minions on this matter!

Oh, quick question - Can we go over the 4 level limit?

Hello,
I have a question about the LBP Contest 6. I have already made a story that fit with the contest description and building requirements. My story is on my earth. What should I do now? I would like to participate in the competition but I don't know if I can use my story. Should I delete my story and republish it or what? Please help me.

Thanks :)

This is a co-create contest so you must co-create with three other people. You can have one of the team publish all the levels on a single moon or each creator can publish one of the levels on his/her moon. It's up to you.

I'm Italian, still I understand the meaning of must.
Once again, I can't stress enough to read the rules.
Understanding the rules means half work done.
If you backtrack the history of the contests, the people who qualified high barely asked anything...because they understood the rules.
They're clear and they give you anything you need, loopholes purposedly included :p

Ok then I delete my story and republish it on 01/01/12. Then I call two of my friends in my description. That's allowed right?
It would be a "New story" with 0 plays, hearts etc...

I have a cool idea, but it involves the queen of hearts (maybe) from Disney, am I allowed this?

That defeats the whole point of this or any contest. Creating in a team can be SO much fun, some of my best times on LBP were creating with others. And the thrill of these things is starting now and trying your hardest to finish before the deadline.

You could just do a playing card motif without any particular reference to Disney or Lewis Carroll. Even better, you could do a story about the Queen of Clubs, who is always less popular than her spade, heart, and diamond counterparts. :)

Jeez, 4 levels! That's a fifth of our publishing space! It's so much cooler to pack it all into one with emitting and destroying. :p
This is funny because I have been contemplating turning a story for a book I have been writing into a level series.. For those of us with no friends can we just make 3 fake PSNs and do it all ourselves?

A really cool theme none the less!

Yohoohoho~ Have to co create with 3 other people? this is for sure a contest for only the most active LBP players~ even I with over 80 LBP friends on my PSN friends list would have trouble getting enough of my buds to create with me. most people are to busy with their own projects to help out with other people's projects. I know... i have enough trouble just get more then a handful of my buds to play test my levels~ :0 *mew

hmm... you don't have to join your friends in this contest do ya? would everyone just sending the levels back and forth to one another and working on it that way be ok right? This contest looks fun i'd love to enter it. I think one of my level ideas I've been thinking about could easily fit within this contest's theme. *mew

*Cries* I love you all...

I've been waiting for a chance to produce an epic story... (Lbpc1) Second Hand City was a crude attempt to tell a bigger story through subtle hints and clues... not sure it worked so well =/ (Guess you were the judges of that)

Anyway I'm gonna gather up the POPfizz team and hopefully y'all enjoy whats produced...

Yeah, we pretty much rely on your good sense and honesty people.
Remember to be fair with every other player.

If someone wants to gamble, we won't be able to know but...they must keep in mind that some teams will work 100% full force x4.
So if someone in a team slackers...well...you know.
It is not by gambling that this contest can be won.

I edited my post after initially submitting it, with a question, but I guess nobody noticed it, so I'll ask again.
The rules don't seem to specify whether or not projects must have exactly 4 levels or not. It says a minimum of 4 levels, but does not specify whether that number is also the maximum.

I try to avoid asking questions about rules, given I know how nippy it is, but things like this just strike me as an oversight that needs to be addressed.

Mr_Fusion

Another great competition concept. My mind started wandering with ideas almost instantly. A good time length for something so epic. I would warn people that group creating with a deadline an a potential reward can be very hard. Make sure everyone on the team knows what they need to do, and who is backing them up. Imagine if your logic guy goes MIA with a week to go!

Plan ahead and set smaller deadlines. Like the HUD needs to be done this week, the forest in two days time. Etc

OmegaSlayer
11-15-2011, 09:22 PM
Love how you share some tips Fusion.
That's the spirit, keeping things fair, always helping each other, even if they're not in your team.

The point is that I think that 4 minds coupled together can do lots of thing that one mind alone won't do, because some ideas can get perfected together and problems solved easily.
Also friendship can solidify.
That, friendship.
Remember friendship every single minute you build with others, be opened to other's ideas and work for a common goal, to make it great.
I also suggest to really work together on every aspect and not have a logician, a musician and whatever else.
Be a solid part in everything and learn with humbleness from each other :)

@Ostler, we go with 4 levels, we think it's pretty much the more fitting number to secure some epic quality in 2 months and have some pretty paced stuff, not too much diluted.
Nothing will prevent you to make the story longer, but we'll judge only the first 4 levels.
You can make your story go on later on. :)

Dortr
11-15-2011, 09:45 PM
Team projects always turn out really nice. I can't wait to see all of these. Hopefully people will publish them as each part is finished..
Or a level per team member would be interesting too. Maybe even 4 different views of the same story or 4 different characters and their stories that intertwine around the main story. Perhaps maybe a story that goes backwards?

...Sorry thinking out loud here.. or thinking with my hands rather.. and I'm not even entering :p
But still, hopefully these ideas will be of some use to those who are :)

I have a couple quickies:
1. So the levels do have to be 4 levels long? And not just a certain amount of playtime? Assuming this doesnt just hold games to being specific platformers, I cant help but feel this gives them the advantage, because its way easier to convert them into 4 different levels than something of a different genre.

2. Do music composers count as Co-Creators, or does it have to be four people actually building the Level?

3. Does the ending of this level have to wrap up everything in the story, or can stories end in the typical " to be continued" type scenarios?

I love these contest and definitely love seeing what the community can come up with, but dang dag nabbity it! It seems they're getting too technical. With all the requirements it seems like you need a degree in astrophysics to even stand a chance, that or play LBP 24/7. I used to have a dream of getting a LBPC pin one day and actually thought it was possible. Not now. All I ask is dial back the comps a little bit. Can't we have a contest to see who can make the best square? Nah, forget it! My square would come out looking like a rhombus then you'd have all those stupid questions like : "Ok, can my square have rounded sides?" No, that would make it a Circle!

Good luck to everyone entering this and I can't wait to play all your awesome levels, and sorry for the rant.

Yes, next time we'll look forward to do something simple, maybe again on a monthly basis, though, we wanted to do something special.
Also...and I speak for myself, not for the crew, LBPC2 was the weakest one, speaking about top quality levels, and it had a broader, more free theme.
So, yeah we must tweak here and there the next contest, we want something original again, a bit broader and easier.
But...let's see what happens next.
Today we start to work again on stuff :p

I'm sort of interested in helping someone on this one. I dunno, this might just be the greatest contest idea ever.

Why thank you!
Or the biggest, most epic fail!
We've done our best, now it's up to you.
I really can't wait to see what some minds around here can deliver when coupled together.
2 months will be a really long time to wait.

To leech off Valeview's question if a group did have 8 people would it possible to split the prizes like the pins to half and the crowns to the remaining people?

OmegaSlayer

Sorry guys, maybe sometimes I joke much...time to get serious and start a rant.
This is a game but also in its micro way, it's a mirror of how things go in the world.
When any kind of contest is set, rules are placed to create a levelled field, so that any contender starts at the same place with the same opportunities to win.
The deciding factor are skills, sweat and will to win.
Having 8 people working against teams of 4 people is the same as doping in sport.
It's a gamble and we can't support it.
It's like applying for a work with 2 Curricula Vitae when only one guy can get the job.

The value of getting crowned is the Community acknowledgement of your hard work, the feel that you deserve it.
Otherwise it wouldn't be rare and it wouldn't be a prize for the efforts.

Okay, that's all I wanted to know. Sorry, I didn't follow the rules carefully. Another question. It says that the series must not include almost entirely on cutscenes. If I make a ten to fifteen minute interactive level, what is the maximum minutes of cutscenes I can include?

TheSackboy

I am aware that this level was published before the contest was released. Simply re-publishing it does not make it liable to be entered into the competition. As much as I have no command in how the contest is regulated, I would highly recommend taking the entry down because it's breaking the rules of the contest. If you would like to enter fairly I suggest you do this quickly because I wouldn't be surprised if this effected your chances of winning. Just a pointer :)

-Also, is it four levels max or minimum?

ANyways, good luck to all the sackfolk entering, and do awesome work!

Now that I am going back through all of these posts on page 5, I realised to my mistake *Gasps* I dont have a team!

This is my kind of contest! I wish I had saved all my levels I've made so far.

@Cymbol Sounds like you speak from experience. Not me though, I'm a team player and will always have the projects best interests in mind. You just need to find people who don't have huge egos and are open to suggestions and are willing to share the same goal. I know there are people out there like that.

Haha, no, no bad experience in groups. I was just kidding.

You know I have been working with a group on a project, and we have had no problems.

The key to having a good creating group is to find people who,

1. Take their creating seriously.
2. Are able to finish projects.
3. Don't have big egos.

I've never heard a serious creator, who has gained some level of success be the one to say their levels are great, or better than anyone else's.

I like humble people. Those are the type of people I choose to surround myself with in LBP.

1. Can you enter more than 4 levels?
2. If you can, can you make extra movie levels to go with the story if you have 4 levels that are gameplay based?

The series for the competition can span over 4 levels if you want but only the first 4 levels will be judged.
I don't think you can enter a level with just cutscenes but I would like to know if the first level was a full cutscene would the 4 levels after that be judged or would the cutscene level deduct from the "final scoring".

The point of the level building requirements section of the rules is to ensure that everyone is competing on a level playing field and that when it comes to judging, we are comparing like with like.

We have said that a series may go on for more than 4 levels but that to keep things fair we would only judge the first 4 levels. Bear in mind though that it may not be in a team’s best interest to do this, as we’d end up judging only a partly finished story against other teams’ complete ones.

In the same way, if one team produces a set of 4 levels and a cinematic intro/outro and another team sticks to the requirements and compresses all the story and gameplay into 4 levels, it wouldn’t be fair to that second team for us to judge their entry against all the levels entered by the first team. So we’d be in the position of having to ignore (i.e. not play) the cinematic levels. That means part of the story/background would be left out of account. Again that may not be in the best interests of that entry.

In essence, then, the message is that if you deviate from the building requirements it may not lead to your entry being disqualified but it’s probably not going to do it any favours in terms of the judging. Things are just going to get messy. We really would urge teams to stick as closely as they can to the rules. It's the fairest thing all round.

Level links are not allowed in this contest.

Hope that helps. :)

I obviously confirm that.
In our judging history we always tried to not disqualify anyone, but as I stated in other discussions, levels that doesn't stick within the rules are often not focused on what the contest asks and are outperformed by levels of people who has understood the rules.

Now, once and for all (but I know I'll have to repeat it another gazillion times on this thread only), we're here to make the rules clear, not giving methods to exploit them.

Also, I'm seeing quite some promising teams so far.
I'm happy

Can we have One big level that level links to mid-levels in that large one? Like lets say you have Levels A & B. Level A gets too complex, so you have to split it into 2 or 3 sublevels. IS that fair for an entry? I would just like to know so thatI can either emit levels, or forget the thermo.

I just read a post above that said "No level linking" did that mean that your primary levels cannot be level linked? (As in rules) or no level linking as above?

The rules require that you co-create with three other sackfolk. Even if they didn't, it's in your best interest to have a team. You could put in eight weeks of solid work on a level series but a team of four can produce the equivalent of thirty-two weeks of work within the same time period. It's just not possible for a solo creator to match the pure volume of effort that teams will be putting into this contest.

You will need allies if you want to be competitive! :)

Can I waste everyones time by making them read my easily answered questions, because I didn't read the rules, but I wasted two minutes writing this up."

Seriously though, I suggest closing the Contest Threads to only people replying to state that they're entering the contest and looking for partners, etc. Have all these pointless, already-answered questions funneled into another "Q&A Thread." I mean seriously, how many times are you going to answer the same question before everyone understands that "Yes, co creating is a must," and "Yes, you should read the rules to clarify what's being asked of you." I have suggested this in the "Site Reviews" Thread before, but Omega said that they could handle the workload. I still think that all questions regarding contest rules should have their own thread, to reduce clutter and help those that are trying to find team members. (Such as people like me)

I hope the LBPC people listen to this, it would help many good creators by a fair bit.

And I am regretful for stating that you can have as low as two. You must have FOUR/4/QUATROS people, forgive me for botching my previous comment.

Anyways, be prepared to be blown away by battleships in the 3D background firing lasers that explode with epic explosions in the normal field, realistic sword and bow fighting, and the ability to lead a group of AI followers and give specific commands!

You can have one of the team publish all the levels on a single moon or each creator can publish one of the levels on his/her moon. It's up to you." Do we have to be 4! :O We are just two! I'm sure this has already been asked, but can we be allowed a separate level for intro movies.
For example intro, level 1, level 2, level 3, level 4, ending...?

Uncuddly
11-22-2011, 12:43 AM
The judges will only play four levels. If you make an extra intro and outro it's essentially a wasted effort because the judges won't give those movies any consideration. They want four interactive levels and that's it. Anything beyond that is for your own amusement and doesn't help your chances in the contest. Keep in mind that your competitors will be doing everything in exactly four levels: you don't want to put yourself at a disadvantage by spending time elsewhere!

I don't suppose we are going to disqualify anyone for having fewer than 4 in a team but bear in mind that 4 levels is a lot of work and you will be putting yourselves at a disadvantage if you only have a small team. Also what a waste of possible Crowns, lol! I really would urge you to try and get some extra creators on board. Have you tried posting a thread in the Find Other Happy Gadders Forum?

@Microhamster - in this Contest if anyone on the winning team already has a Crown then Crowns will only be awarded to the other non-Royalty members of the team. It wouldn't seem right to award a second Crown to someone who already has one and it would be impossible for us to take the fourth Crown and give it to a member of the second placed team as we would only have one spare Crown for the 4 of them. It would just get too messy. :)

The rules state that all four levels must contain gameplay. Everybody's entries will naturally have a beginning, two middles, and an end, but it all has to be playable to some extent.

Sorry, xtremesackboy, your query slipped through the cracks a bit.

I guess a hub would be OK as long as it was a straightforward hub with links to the 4 actual levels. If it included a cinematic intro or any real gameplay then that wouldn't be within the rules. :)

Now I've got a dilemma. I love making music in lbp, do write own music and would love to team up with a team needing music for their marvelous creations. The dilemma is that I've already teamed-up with my brother. We've put huge effort on planning and does now use our time to work on the levels. Though all the effort, it doesn't look like a winning concept. I now don't have a single clue of what I should do. I can't be a part of two teams, right? That would be like entering two levels (or eight levels in this competition). Still, I really can't dissappoint my brother. Does anybody have an idea of shat I should do? I need help!

Putting a swastika in LBP would be lack of good sense and good taste.
Some franchises like Killzone or Cashern used symbolism recalling the swastikas to label militaristic oppressive dictatorship.
Hinting is more interesting and mature than showing things right in the face.
And most of all is not offensive.

For the others, read the rules.
4 levels, 4 people, no level links, no sub levels, no intros.
If you want to link them with a hub, the levels must be accessible stand alone anyway and the hub must NOT contain the (LBPC5) tag, we won't consider and judge it.
So you can add the hub after the contest is closed since it won't matter to us.
Focused on what is asked if you want to win.
Sagas with a number of levels/sublevels different than 4 will be IMMEDIATELY and UNMISTAKABLY DISQUALIFIED.
I will not accept compromises this time because it's really clear and well stated.
There are no loopholes in that section of the rules.
So mark well my words.

The team doesn't have to have 4 people in it if you think you can manage with fewer. The members of the team as listed in the level description must have a PSN account (or we wouldn't be able to award them a Crown). There's nothing to stop a friend without a PSN helping out behind the scenes.

The level mustn't be based on real events but should have more of a fantasy theme. However we are allowing levels based on alternate history so you could do something set in WW2 provided it's different from the real historical events e.g. the Nazis have won the war and you are members of some sort of resistance cell etc. If you click on "alternate history" in the first post, it''ll take you to a webpage explaining what it is.

I think I'm doing this... If I have the time lol... BUT I have 1 question. Does it have to be 4? Can it be more?

Your question is answered in this post (http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?65229-LBPC-Contest-6-A-Quest-For-Glory&p=952299&viewfull=1#post952299) (sorry posting a link is easier than writing it out again!) :)

-Can we use cinematics or have a movie before the first level? As long as the level has some gameplay to it, cinematics are allowed.

-Can we have a level HUB? As long as it has a direct link to each level, then yes.

If I remember correctly it was said by one of the crew that you could have more than 4 levels but you would only be judged on the first four levels.

Also I am curious to know if you can use a level link at the end of each of the 4 levels (or at least the first 3) to lead onto the next level.
Sure the rules say no Level links but the levels themselves would be separate levels not sub-levels so they could be accessed by the level link in the level and/or via the pod computer so in a way it is the same as using a level HUB especially since they both use level linking, it's just more limited.

See...sometimes we have to restrict rules in a silly way to prevent things.
When we say we don't want level links, we mean that we don't want to be transferred to the next level automathically, that every level must be open on its own and blahblahblah.
As you see, people has quite some difficulties to read and understand the rules...so...we must keep them the easiest posssible.

LBPCommunityTeam
12-03-2011, 08:01 PM
Yes, they have to be completely seperated, and not level linked in any way, besides a HUB which is the one exception to the rules.

Also, you can have more than four levels, but as DarkCloudRepeat correctly said, you will only be ranked on the first four, and you may end up losing points because of an "incomplete" storyline.

1) Only 1 of you needs to be registered to LBPC. And that's only so you can post here saying that your entering. (I think. They find you one way or another.)

2) When you finish your series, have (LBPC6) somewhere in the level title. That way when they search for LBPC6 levels, it will come up. Have that in all 4 levels.

I would have liked to enter but haven't had a working PS3 for the past month. Anyone who does manage to put together an entry deserves some respect though, a 4 level series is no small thing.

I did have 2 ideas for this though.... we'll see :p

Hey guys, we're almost halfway.
Is anyone willing to share something?
How groups are made up, teasing titles and these kind of things?

1 level down... well almost, no worries though cause we're about to start holidays and will have no distractions. Also, for lbpc1, did 3 levels in a month with 2 people... so 4 people for 3 should be no issue

story - sorted
set pieces - designed
characters - established
oh and an entirely original music album
many other things falling into place... literally

hoping to have a teaser poster released closer to deadline, but you ain't getting much more than that just now. We're keeping this close to our chest

lets just say... The stakes are high <>

Dave

This idea was born from the ideas of two of the people I was to create with, Valeview and Spiffyspleen especially since they were both pretty determined to have the level themes focus around their theme/setting (Viking, Heijh - Valeview and Facility, B.O.B. Spiffyspleen).
This idea had multiple endings and could easily be followed up with a sequel be it returning to the land of the Vikings or travelling through space and because of that I hoped it would convince both Vale and Spiffy to create levels based off the Vispace idea.

Just a note: Valhalla is the ships name.
Below is a mostly a direct copy and paste for the level ideas but NOT the story and because I didn't include the story a lot of the stuff below won't make sense.

Vispace.
"Level 1 - Battle with the Corrupt - Viking Simulation - Small opening scene, some plat-forming, maybe a war and then a boss fight with Heijh (the opposing/corrupt king/leader).
Level 2 - To Valhalla- Start of ship - B.O.B introduction, pod in air-lock room, plat-forming etc *Chase Scene*
Level 3 - Feeling of Steel - Middle of Ship or Middle and End of Ship - B.O.B gets more aggressive and talks about others who have attempted to shut him down. *Chase scene*. Cut off power from the ship towards B.O.B
Level 4 - Ragnarok Begins - End of Ship and Boss or Just Boss - Boss fight with B.O.B and Final cut-scene with multiple endings.
- Ending 1, where you release all the people in the cyro pods.
- Ending 2, you shoot all the cyro pods off towards the red planet.
- Ending 3, you do nothing and monitor the cyro people and "judge" them just as B.O.B did initially.
- Ending 4, you sleep in a new cyro pod and go and return to the simulation and defeat Heijh in battle.

A Chase scene can occur within Level 2 or 3, it can even be an ending scenario for level 2 that would lead up the level 3."

It's cancelled though since we couldn't come to an agreement. I would probably be posting something similar in a level showcase thread sometime in early January.
Credits to Valeview, Spiffyspleen and the LBPC contest crew.

Are there going to be enough entrants for this? If you need another, I could potentially start a rather rushed project... :p. Wouldn't win of course, but I'd hate to see contestants lose out due to lack of numbers.

IS there a procedure for too few entrants? Winning by default seems so .... (oh wait, it may be my only chance .... quiet you fool)

So, I've read the rules and totally understand all of them. Before we start on this project, I have a very important question. My siblings would likely be willing to help me out with this project as they have messed around with me before when I was just goofing off in create mode. Here's the problem. They always just came in as guests, don't own the game themselves, don't own PS3 systems themselves, and don't have PSN IDs. Now, I know that according to the rules I can get them to throw together some PSN IDs and hop on with me in create mode and the 4 of us are creating together and following the rules to a T. My concern is whether this is going to make it look like I'm doing this project solo and end with our disqualification. Thanks for the time you'll surely take to read and respond to this, contest crew! =)

Yeah, I'm just not sure if it would look suspicious or anything with us all being on the same system and 3/4 accounts being new. :/

The team doesn't have to have 4 people in it if you think you can manage with fewer. The members of the team as listed in the level description must have a PSN account (or we wouldn't be able to award them a Crown). There's nothing to stop a friend without a PSN helping out behind the scenes.

Grrr I thought it was set in stone earlier that it is completely required to have four..

-In this Contest if anyone on the winning team already has a Crown then Crowns will only be awarded to the other non-Royalty members of the team. It wouldn't seem right to award a second Crown to someone who already has one and it would be impossible for us to take the fourth Crown and give it to a member of the second placed team as we would only have one spare Crown for the 4 of them. It would just get too messy.

And Shroph already answered the question for what I was going to sarcastically ask about if the first place team has 2 people with Royalty and the 2nd has 3 people and the third has only one and other possible confusing combinations that would ruin this mass distribution of crowns.

There seems to be some pretty epic teams out there already, which is really heavy competition. I can't wait to see these entries!

Hmm I think my project is coming along alright~
Though i think i took a little to long on the planing/thinking up ideas part of it. ( >_>)
Also I'm down to only 3 members sense one of my team members got to busy with some things in life right now to help anymore. I know we can do it with less then 4 but it's nice to have as many buds as we can get, So if anyone who may be interested in joining me, go ahead and ask. though you'll need to be skilled at something or just a fairly good creator overall. and of course you would need to be someone who i could get along with fairly well. anyways good luck to everyone, this is a pretty hard contest this time around. i look forward to seeing what everyone makes here. :) *mew

Quick question: if the winning team have less than four teammates (let's say they're two) and the runner ups are just two persons too, will they be rewarded crowns too then? It would be a waste of crowns otherwise...

Uncuddly

Crowns can't really be wasted, the codes will just be used for the next event instead. :)

Yes? anything that is not wrote down in the rules is fair game to do.

..I'm pretty sure one of the reasons he asked was the fact that it hadn't been written down, yet, correct me if I'm wrong, none of the crew has said that it wasn't allowed.

@tjaldex225: Great stuff, both posters you've posted in the thread have really got me excited, and of course, good luck with the competition, as to everyone else participating.

What i said means it is allowed. when something in a contest is not talked about in the rules. normally that means it's allowed. they can't create a list of everything in the world that is allowed. that's why they create a list of rules of only the things that are NOT allowed. so if it's not in the rules.... it's a pretty safe bet it's ok to do. *mew

Guys I wouldn't worry, sure some teams may be more talented in some areas but for a 2 month project the judges will be examining all areas of the build... nobody's perfect and I'm sure you will have talents others won't have. This contest is especially open as a journey, being the theme, implies that gameplay will have to be married with story, art style and music very closely... allowing for multiply ways to impress.

Saying that I'm pretty excited seeing what Tjaldex225 and Evret are doing with our boss fight... I haven't seen much of it myself yet (as I'm finishing up the other levels, but from what I've seen it will be spectacular. We're just aiming to please someone and probably won't get close to winning... but that won't stop us from going out fighting.

Also just another update: we're probably done with poster teasers... simply because we don't wanna give too much away regarding plot and also partially because everyone else (minus one group) has been secretive and we think it's their turn to share some juicy details... if we somehow find more time this might change, but not too likely.

Dave
