LBPC Crown Contest #5 - The Results

Almost 2 months ago we announced a contest that we thought would be the biggest one yet. The idea was ambitious and unique and we expected there to be many murderous Mickeys, Evil Pinnochios and slave-driving Snow Whites. What we got instead was a tiny handful of really exceptional levels that embraced the theme and created something truly special. To these creators, we thank you.

There were moments in some of these levels that truly took our breath away. A massive, insane Geppeto was chilling. A lovingly created story-book made us smile. Impressive animation really showed the individual art of the creators whether that was a wooden Pinnochio, demonic Walt or many more. These select few levels made this contest very hard to judge and we would gladly give all the top contenders a crown but there can only be one!

With sadness in our hearts we have to say goodbye to Mother-Misty, an invaluable companion, a great friend and a great person. You'll be absolutely missed. We wish you the best for your work and the things to come! The doors of the Crew are always open for you, as are our hearts!

Also, the guys of Sackinima couldn't record a video this time too, life is hard, and time consuming, we hope you can forgive us this little absence. We apologize sincerely.

Congratulations lordwarblade! Your level is one of those that pushes the boundaries forward, one of those that leads the way for upcoming creations!

Pookacho, what a lovely level! (if we can say it for a level with a sinister mood), it fought until the eleventh hour for the winning spot, you did an amazing job!

Papanurgle, impressive level indeed, moody, gritty, tense! Oozing evilness! Nicely done, seriously!!!

We'd also like to say a big thank you to all the other contenders. Your levels were a joy to play. Keep up the good work!!! :star:

Remember, round six is still open for entry here!!! (http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?65229-LBPC-Contest-6-A-Quest-For-Glory) And can always follow the LBPC Contest Crew on Twitter (http://twitter.com/#%21/LBPCContestCrew)!

Awesome! Big congrats Warblade! :D I knew you would do well!
Of course congrats to Pookachoo, papanurgle123 and everyone else who participated in this unique contest. :)
Very quick results on this one, and I still need to see a few of the others.

12-09-2011, 02:53 PM
Yeah, congrats guys!
You made our decision pretty hard.
Blood was spilled to judge this one :p

I really think papanurgles pinnicio should have done better to be honest....

12-09-2011, 03:17 PM
No lordwarblade was pushing two projects at once and the quality came out superb. It was the ultimate breed of a new type of LBP Community level.
And the design of enviroment was amazing. Hard to fault that one.

12-09-2011, 03:18 PM
Congrats to Lordwarblade for the win and to pookachoo and papanurgle123 to coming in 2nd and 3rd. Also to the rest of the contenders. Very good levels guys and I applaud each and every one of them. My hat's off to the contest crew for another outstanding contest. I picture you guys fighting it out in an arena with this music playing.

Man, when I say that blood has been spilt, I'm not joking.
It has been HARD.
We had 2 weeks of arguments to pick up a level between those 3.
And I'll tell you one thing.
In those kind of scenarios, it's not hard to pick a winner, the hard thing is to pick 2 losers.
And it's something that make all of us judges sad, but we are provided with only 1 code.
It's obvious that a victory for one results in bitterness for the ones that reach so close to the victory, but I encourage everyone to taste the sweet side of it.
They reached so damm close, so it might just be a matter of time before winning a competition.
Time, dedication, love, patience and humbleness.
So, to those who didn't win...
You're awesome! Your time will come, I'm sure!

what's happened with Mother-Misty? Stepping down from LBP and LBPC altogether or just the contest crew?

Nah, he's just busy with work, and that's great news.
We tried to keep him locked inside the Crew for 2 months even if he had to leave earlier :p
But we had to release him and let him gift the Real World with his amazing talent. :)

Wow i can't believe it i actually won! I thought because of the rushed logic and the fact there was no sack bots at all it wouldn't quite cut the platforming part of the requirements. I'm so glad to see a whole months constant hard work pay off. It was such a tiring level to make it almost stopped me creating for a long while.

Also congrats Papanurgle and Pookachoo. I knew Papanurgles level would be in the top three.

Difficult call, but personally I think Pookachoo's level should have won. It was much more dynamic.

CONGRATULATIONS to all :D!!!!!!!!, very strong competition especially for us judges, it was really difficult to decide who should win.

I hope you enjoy your crown Lordwarblade since last contest had done a great job, and once again congratulations to all

12-10-2011, 02:17 AM
woooow!!! I'm really happy with the results of this contest, who live a childhood watching Disney movies enjoy too with the levels that were here.

Difficult call, but personally I think Pookachoo's level should have won. It was much more dynamic.

I think the results could not be better, Lorwarblade level is really impressive and original, could not have better adaptation of the story of Pinocchio as what they did Papanurgle123 and Lordwarblade, congratulations guys really i love their levels :p

12-10-2011, 04:32 AM
Phew! That would have been such a tough call. There were so many great moments and design elements in all the LBPC5 stages I played, even though I'm a little biased toward Lordwarblade's stage, and I would have hated to choose between that and Pookachoo's!

12-10-2011, 05:51 AM
Difficult call, but personally I think Pookachoo's level should have won. It was much more dynamic.

I feel you on this.
I don't want to say lies.
In this contest no level was a "masterpiece" and everyone of them had some flaws.
So, we REALLY REALLY had a crap time with lots of arguments and more than one voting, because there wasn't a clear winner.
As I said, we are TRULY sad because we know we have to cut a line between things so close that we ALREADY knew that we would have hurt someone, and we're sorry for that, and it's what makes our work hard.
So...mine and the whole crew warmest thoughts go to pookacho and papanurgle, together with a virtual hug.
Losing is sad, but look at what you accomplished, it's never easy to reach the first spots in a LBP contest.

Congrats to Lordwarblade, truly an epic level.

Congrats to all; both winner, runner-ups and honorable-mentioned! To be honest, I think you all deserved your rankings twice as much as I would have done, but I tell you: I have some really hot stuff coming up in lbpc6, and I'll be willing to kill for at least a runner-up ranking;)

12-10-2011, 06:10 PM
Why people are so sad? I participate all these different competitions 'cause they give me lots of motivation to do a level. Also, i always learn something while i'm creating so it's positive. Of course it would be nice to get a crown but don't give it to make you sad: if you have enough imagination and ability to concentrate, the crown is probably yours someday :)

BTW, great job with judges and i'd like to say to every LBPC6 participater: well done! I'm so happy that you had motivation to bring us all these masterpieces :)

12-10-2011, 06:24 PM
Thanks, Omegaslayer.
I know I made the best level I could given the circumstances, as I'm sure we all did. So congratulations to every one who entered, this was a big project.
I just feel the need to say that we all have our own opinions and that doesn't make anyone right or wrong, so no point arguing if someone says "I think level X should have won." It's a matter of personal taste, and of course we all think we have "the right" taste but it's subjective - and that's the whole point. The judges decide who wins a contest and beyond that, everyone's opinions are equal. Personally, I think it's fine to state your favorite; but kinda bad taste to say that means other people are wrong.
