View Full Version : How did you discover LBP?

It's a simple question.

How did you discover this game?
Through adverts? A friend's reccomendation? Reviews?
There's always a story, no matter how small, and I'd love to hear yours.

Youtube video of the first gameplay XD
and sealed the deal with the ice hazard video...
bought game day one, rejected the week one shirt not knowing it was timed...
then no ice =/

but no regrets either XD

Back in 2009 (when I first played LBP), I was interested into getting a game like Animal Crossing, where you can make your own world and do anything you want. Mom told me that Little Big Planet is like that, which it actually not, but it's better than any version of Animal Crossing.

Oh back in 09 gosh so long a go...Some one i dated had a ps3 and they had little big planet 1,and i fell in love with it but..I didin't get lbp or a ps3 till a year later lol.

06-29-2012, 04:49 PM
Umm. back in 2008 I think if i remember right I saw trailers of it on TV somewhere... and they said it was a platforming game where you could create your own levels and dress up your character. so i thought to myself that seemed pretty cool and then put it on my B-day list which was next year. so yeah, i got LBP1 early 2009. After i first got it i was somewhat surprised because it was actually far better then what they showed on TV. :p *mew

It came with my PS3, but I was intrigued by it long before that - I sort of joined the LBP bandwagon a little late, but since then I haven't put it down, my thumbs have been permanently bent to correspond with the PS3 controller.

06-29-2012, 05:12 PM
It came with my PS3, I had never heard of the game at the time and had planned on selling the game but then I played it and fell in love with it!

06-29-2012, 05:27 PM
I discovered it first thing it was announced, but I didn't even get it until I got a PS3 in May 2010.

06-29-2012, 05:38 PM
I saw an advert for it in a cinema! Don't know about the US but in the UK they never show game trailers in cinemas. Didn't pick it up until about a year after that though (must have been late 09).

Well, I'm a late buyer. My older brother bought a PS3 bundle that came with the GOTY edition of LBP in May 2010. He told me that LBP was better than Wario Ware: DIY, which was a Wario Ware game where you can make your own microgames. He was right.

06-29-2012, 09:23 PM
I think it was early 2008 when I learned about it on the official Burnout Paradise forums. Ahh, now that was a fun game.

06-29-2012, 09:33 PM
I never really thought about it when I bought my PS3 in 06 (Still going strong 6 years later :)) and so when LittleBigPlanet came out never thought anything of it. About a month after it's release I saw it sat in the preowned section (You heard right!! :O) in GAME and bought it along with Tom Clancy's Endwar. It took me about a week to get into it and I haven't turned back since :)

06-29-2012, 09:35 PM
I discovered LBP through when I went to a friend's house. I saw the GOTY edition of LBP in his stack of games, and I suggested we play that game. So we poped it in and I fell in love with it. It was only about a month after that I got LBP GOTY, and that's what kickstarted my LBP career.

PFFT. Late nothing. I got it on Christmas Eve 2010. It too came with my PS3, but the story of how I discovered it starts a while back. LET ME TELL YOU, MAH BOI.
Long ago, in a distant land, I was walking around GameStop. I came across this odd game with a sack character on it, and I looked at the back. Seemed legit. I didn't have a PS3 at the time, so I just put it back and thought I'd come back for it in the future.
Then I forgot about it.
Two years later, while surfing the internetz, I stumbled across the same sack guy and remembered the game I saw. I clicked on the video and, to my surprise, the game was amazing. I thought it looked weird back when I first saw it, but now it looks like the greatest game in history.
I also thought the garbage levels were the stuff of gods. (Not the COMPLETE garbage like copied levels, but the levels about grabbing a sponge and flying off. Those are still fun.)
And that, my friends, is how I was sucked into the beckoning vortex that is LBP. And died.
The end.

Well, I saw some early gameplay videos at College around a year before I got a PS3 and liked what I saw, but I didn't have a PS3 at the time.
I was persuaded into buying a PS3 after Modnation and MAG were revealed one year during an E3 show.
Around half a year after getting my Grillstation, me and 3 or 4 other College friends all picked up the game on the same week and had great fun online.

Sadly I'm the only one out of my crew who stuck with the game more than a month or so.

The PSN hack last year. I didn't know LBP even existed up until then.

So, I went to school the day after I found out that PSN had been hacked (it was on channel 7 news here in New Zealand) and the IRL wheelbase911 (I knew him at my old school) had LBP2. So he convinced me to get LBP1, saying it was awesomesauce. So I got WipEout HD and LBP1. That's how I got LBP.

I actually got three free games, not two (the third one was inFamous, my second favourite series) because I got wheelbase911 to come to my place and log in using his account, and go into his download list. Tee hee. :D

We were looking for something to play as a family. My daughter was 6 and we saw LBP on the shelf at the store and thought it looked like something she would enjoy. Little did we know we'd get so involved with such a "cute" game.

Flashback at 2008: I was reading a game preview of Littlebigplanet and got interested in the game, but I didn't had a PS3 back then.

In January 2010: Me and my sister were arguing about what console to get.
When we talked about the exclusives, I only knew a few good ones for one console... while she knew more for the PS3.

We got the PS3 on friday, dad and her wanted to shop for some games on saturday, I was stuck if I want LBP or Ratchet and Clank: Tools of Destruction since I was a fan of Ratchet and Clank games on PS2 but went ahead and tried something new with LBP.

I became SO obsessed with the game, I always asked dad and my sis to play with me but they couldn't due Sackboy being sooo Cute!

I saw a preview of the game in a GameInformer magazine, images of it were from GDC 2007, so it was likely a while ago. I had very very little interest in it, nor did I have a PS3.

Later I had a chance to play it when it was rented from a video store, I didn't find it very interesting then either, but then I found out about create mode, it was then a must-buy for me. After that I played a few of the communities levels and had a whole lot of fun from there. (I think the first few levels I played had that big shark one, I loved it.) When I got it, I had no idea the game only came out about a month earlier either.

Four years ago, my older brother bought lbp1, I did some story level with him but I didn't have any interest in the game. I actually hated when he played that game. One years later, I didn't know what game to play and I was bored so by curiosity I played lbp1 to see the other feature it had except ''story mode''. I then found out the create mode and fallen in love with it. I played many level created by people like and that's when I've set a goal to make the best level ever. It never happened but that's what kept me creating.

06-30-2012, 03:28 AM
Sometime in 2008 I saw some LBP gameplay on a show of X-Play on G4. I vividly remember my dad saying, "What the h*** is this?" It looked good, but money doesn't come easy, and I skipped out on the game. When I saw the trailers for LBP2 at the time of its release, the create mode looked like something pretty advanced, and I felt like creating my own top-down shooter. So, I purchased LBP2 at full price, less than a month after its release, something I rarely do. Some abandoned top-down shooters later, I'm now finally on the road to completing that task, though I still have a ways to go. (I don't consider Code Red to be finished.)

Oh boy... What an awesome question...

Back in time, in early January 2008, My brother and I were visiting Gamestop to pick up a replacement DS for him, my brother having purchased a defective unit from the store. They gave him a brand new DS, and a 2008 Calendar as a bonus for the inconvenience.

Months dragged on and our family ended up using the calendar because we didn't really care as to what it looked like. Each page/month of the calendar had a preview picture of a specific game that was to be released in 2008.
(I remember fondly having Gran theft Auto 4 displayed on one month, but that's about it)
In the month of June, a picture of LittleBIGplanet was displayed. I remember looking at it multiple times and having NO interest for it, but my younger brother (The one kid who got us the calendar in the first place,) Instantly fell in love with the Sackperson dressed in the white, blue, and red stunt suit. Later that year (Late october) my brother pressured our Grandparents and myself into buying the game for him. I REALLY hated the game at the time, the childish-looking graphics and my brother's usual attraction to generic, crappy games put me off the game at the time.

However, my brother had a relatively short attention span and quit playing with me after we finished the second level in The Wedding theme. I kept playing, extremely attached to the gameplay and visuals and beat the game in less than 3 days.

It wasn't for a month after that my brother and I's perspectives on LBP switched. Me constantly hogging the only PS3 to play LBP got on his nerves and he started to hate the game. I've been attached to it ever since.

So I guess if it wasn't for my brother's completely idiotic decision buy a year old used DS for 25 bucks, I wouldn't be here today :)

Pfft, you guys think you got LBP late? About 2 or 3 years ago, I was watching videos on YouTube, and I ended up watching LBP Create Mode videos.
I thought it was a nice game so I bought it for PSP (I didn't have a PS3 yet). It was great, I was playing all day. And then I found out about LBP PS3 and LBP 2, but I bought both of them (and a PS3) this year, 2012, on Easter. And I have platinum for LBP2!

06-30-2012, 06:50 AM
I had seen it showcased at I believe 2007 or 08's E3 and read about it in GameInformer magazine and figured it would be pretty good. The day the game released I went down to my local video store to see if they had it for rent and sure enough, there it was. I rented it, took it home, played it for about an hour, then decided that I would have to own this game. I took it back to the video store then drove the 35 miles to the nearest store that sells games (I live in a small town) and bought it. Thing is, I didn't have online capabilities at the time and played LBP1 for almost an entire year without ever playing community levels. Without community levels the game sort of died for me and I continued my battles in Fallout 3, Borderlands, Final Fantasy, etc. I finally got internet out here in the sticks and figured I'd pop in the ol LBP1 and see what levels other people were doing because I had made a level that I was quite proud of and wanted to see how it compared. WOW! I had no idea this game could do what people were doing. I poured through all the LBPC spotlights and joined other forums looking for more awesome levels to play and before you knew it, I was addicted to this thing we call Little Big Planet.

TL;DR read about it in a magazine, saw it on TV, bought the game, addicted.

06-30-2012, 09:20 AM
I was reading a game magazine, and saw LBP-review. I read the review and then i bought it :D

06-30-2012, 10:23 AM
I had read a bit about it beforehand, but I only initially played it when it came with my PS3. I didn't actually play LBP1 that much compared to how much I've played LBP2. LBP1 was more of a game I used to just "dip" in to every now and then, whereas LBP2 is full time.

06-30-2012, 01:38 PM
Came bundled with the PS3.

I'd read a little on it before and decided I wanted to play it, but thought I'd never get a PS3. Tried it, and laughed so much at all the emotions and stuff.

EDIT: Lol, this is basically the same as the post above (though LBP1 was pretty 'full-time' for me).

When I got an iPhone early 2009, one of the main things I played was a game called Pocket God. It was a blast, and I had tons of fun with it. Later, I decided to follow the creators' blog, and they had some cool stuff on there. Later on, they actually showed videos of people who had made levels for the game in a game called 'Little Big Planet'. I had no idea what it was, but the videos looked cool. I actually didn't see what Sackboy really looked like yet as the player was dressed as one of the "oogas" (originally called pygmies but I believe it was considered offensive since it was all about killing the little islanders so they changed it to a made-up word of theirs) and you didn't really even see his stitched up skin, or his button eyes in these videos, but it looked cool.

Months later, I heard about it again. Black Friday was coming up, and my brother was thinking about getting a PS3. And I heard about LBP again. It looked really cool, and I looked at some videos and reviews for it, it looked amazing. He decided to hold off though until Christmas, where both he and I payed half and half for the PS3. The first game he got was Modern Warfare 2, and the first one I got was Little Big Planet.

Thank you Pocket God, and thank you Little Big Planet.

My parents sell electronics, and they got a free PS3 with an order from Sony. We never really played on it until my brother decided to buy a few games for it. One of those games was LBP1. I only saw him playing it once, and never paid much attention to it. A few years later i won a PS3 though. It came with a racing game, but since i'm not that into racing, i asked someone what other cool games were available and i got LBP2. Later, i borrowed some games from my brother, including LBP1. I actually finished LBP2 before i had even touched LBP1. They're both great games though :)

I was gonna tell a long story about how I first played LBP2 at a friends house but I got kicked out of the internet, and it cleared my message. So this is all I'm gonna say.

This is an odd story...

To start, I had seen the cover of the game and, having a gift card to the store, decided to go buy it. However, as the clerk informed me, they were robbed of only game disks and had no more copies of the game. From here, I thought "Hey! If somethings that good, why haven't I bought it?" After awhile I forgot about until about '10 and found it at agame rental store for $1 for 6 days. I rented it and had a great time, but sucked at creating so I didn't play it again. Then, LBP 2 was debuted. I then quickly went to the same store from the begining, and preorderd the Colector's Edition. (I still have the box and all the cardborde, and papers inside of the box. ) However, I wanted to get LBP1 still after learning how to create, to a degree. Then the good 'ol PSN Blackout happened. After that, feeling ever-so-witty with my 3 PSNs, downloaded the HUD LBP1 and have it to this day.

In 2009 when I always regretted getting it because I thought it was babyish and kiddish. My sister kept telling me to get it I replied "Nah,that game is weird." Then one day I got it and played tutorials then story mode. Now I love Little Big Planet 2!!!!! :D

07-03-2012, 08:07 AM
My story can be explained in a few lines.
Blackst4r: Mega, get off Call of Duty for once. Try a new game like Littlebigplanet
Me: Sounds kiddy....
Blackst4r: It's fun man! I've seen people make an FPS and Megaman stuff!
Me: FPS? Megaman? I'm getting my wallet
And then they all died. The end.

07-08-2012, 03:59 AM
My Mom bought it for the little kids but I end up playing it most of the time XD

07-14-2012, 10:57 PM
Something called "internet"

07-15-2012, 03:37 PM
I saw it on my MSN Homepage. ;_;. I saw a video of it, and kinda forgot about it. Came with my PS3 in late 2009. Beat LBP1 story mode in 1 day, and joined LBPC later on.

07-15-2012, 04:18 PM
I knew about this game for quite a while, but I didn't have a PS3 at the time I heard of it. When the second came out, I thought it looked cool. My brother suggested it to me, and I wanted it now. When I went to Game Stop a few days later, I got LBP2 (I haven't played the 1st one yet), and I loved it. In May, one of my favorite video game stores was closing and having this big sale, so I decided to get this crappy shooter game and LBP1 GOTY Edition. That is how I knew of LBP.

07-15-2012, 08:02 PM
I first played a demo of LBP PSP (before I had a PS3) and I thought it sucked. But then the PSN hack happened and I saw LBP PSP ans I said "Why not?" so I got it, loved it, looked it up on the internet, saw LBP2 and its awesomesause, got LBP2(I played on my sisters PS3), then later I got my own PS3. And I lived happily ever after.THE END

07-16-2012, 01:47 AM
When PSN went down I got LBP for one of my free games thinking "here is a game for my wife to play". So I thought I'll give it a try and loved it and the rest is just history.

07-18-2012, 09:01 PM
I discovered this game by watching a show called x-play. I fell in love with it just by watching it and next thing you know the beta was in my hands.

07-20-2012, 07:32 PM
my friend told me about it. He's so awesome, bless him c':

07-25-2012, 02:42 AM
Chrismas, 2010 I think. Got it along with my PS3 Slim and Burnout Paradise.

Parents said it was like The Sims.

07-25-2012, 08:08 AM
i was at game stop, and i saw lbp1. i did not know ANYTHING about it. all i knew was the name, and it was good. i did not see anything i wanted so i picked it up. best decision ever!

07-25-2012, 08:28 AM
I think it was when this one gaming-magazine talked about this odd, british game that was coming out in the fall/winter.

I just thought it might be fun and it was. That's it.

08-03-2012, 08:03 PM
back in 2008 when I got my first ps3 and it had littlebigplant1 come with it and I fell in love with the game!

A friend suggested I get LBP1 after he saw a video of creating a level. I was more of a strategy/rts/shooter kinda gamer, but I decided to humor him and bought the game.

I played through the story. I was amused, though I still had not touched create mode. As soon as I got into that blank world, I knew I would never leave. This was the kind of game for me.

Ever since, I have essentially never stopped creating, other than a few months 2011-12.

I don't have much to show for that time since I never publish a level unless it's a backup or completely finished, and I remove levels after a few months unless I particularly enjoy them. So far that has only been 2 levels, out of something like 25 that I've published.

LBP2 was an obvious purchase as soon as I heard it existed. Making logic in LBP1 was hell, so the upgrade in LBP2 was not only needed for the quickly dwindling time I had to create, but also my sanity.

Now, with the upcoming release of LBP Vita and the memorizer, it's another must-buy for me. There's just too much potential packed within that chip that I can't miss out on.
