View Full Version : Argh, Those Minigames!

Does anyone else find any of the score challenges really hard to achieve 3 stars on? I especially hate one in La Marionetta and one in The Land of Odd. I want to get all the story prizes, but these minigames are just bugging the hell out of me.

Getting 12k in the neon driving game took me a dozen tries, the rest haven't been much of a problem (haven't done last world yet). Holding the Vita vertical and trying to steer with the right stick is pretty awkward. The mini-games themselves are fun, especially the flower burst one, but I'd rather be creating. :)

As for getting all the create items, it's EXTREMELY un-satisfying not being able to get the 2x prizes; I wish they's stop putting in token multi-player prize drops...it's not fun, it's a chore.

At least the boss battles have been really fun and the levels have been easy enough to ace.

What's stopping you from playing with people now?

I don't want to, I've collected all the LBP1&2 prizes myself...but with the Vita I can't. I'm not an extroverted teenager and I find it a huge imposition being forced to run through entire levels just so some stupid 2 player sensor will drop the create items on my sack persons head. I just want the create items so I can happily dive into a moon crater and not come out. :)

They need to implement some unlock mechanism for the create stuff, could be based on time (owned game 2 weeks, etc.), could be for $...I don't care how, it just needs to happen. I've gotten some cool stuff for the ace prizes, should taleted creators not get access to these just because they have bad twitch reflexes?

The one of pure evil:

TOWER BUILDER.

http://bestanimations.com/Nature/Storms/Storm-04-june.gif

I just can't get 3000 points. I just can't. I've tried over and over and over, but I usually screw up due to the yellow pieces! Sure I only win one thing, but I have no idea what that one thing is, and I'm dying to find out!

I had the #1 spot for the hop/bounce thing for a while...63k, pretty funny since I was just going for 30k to get the create goods. Someone has since destroyed my score. It is pretty weird being able to get scores in the top 10 since the game isn't widely available yet.

Do you get prizes for the Arcade games too?

EDIT: I retract my previous response. I don't think the games in the "Arcade" crater have prizes (but I didn't check)...I got confused and thought you were asking about the mini games in the story level craters. The single player ones have unlocks.

I have worn my battery down to shutting off in the middle of Flower Pop that dratted minigame! I was #2 when the servers turned on Tuesday morning, then slowly worked up to #29 then dropped to #24. Then didn't play yesterday (Wednesday) I didn't play until later in the afternoon and was disgusted to see my decent score was way higher and climbing FAST! Last I looked, when my PS Vita died, I was #100. I won't look at it today. Just leave it alone and forget about the stupid scoreboard. I got all the nice pins the first day the server turned on for being high on a Story Scoreboard anyhow. :)

3 Stars for those levels are not the easiest thing. I can get Two consistently on Flower Pop. Just never Three.

That minigame though, it is my kind of game and it's the same stupid flowers all the time and I can't force myself to treat it as POP BUBBLES, more like tetris or bejeweled and it's driving me nuts. I have a plan, and it all goes to pot. To get a higher score ...forget it, I need to finish the other Story levels and really create something too, Flower Pop is too distracting!

I'm having trouble with "Tower Builder", which I can't get three stars on, and "Flower Pop", which is so hard, I can't even get one star on it! I mean, seriously? 3,000 points for 1 star? AAGH!

All of the minigames have been manageable save for Collision Course. Christ. More often than not I die because the camera screws me over or I get into situations I cannot possibly avoid because of the fun random elements. Half of the time, the danger indicators don't show up which is really frustrating. Also, half the time I sideswipe correctly but I don't get any points. It's an otherwise fun game made tedious because of the obnoxious score requirements.

So far my highest score is 11,500 which is just great. The last second I got into a situation where I was on the narrow section and two cars (one from the bottom, one from the top) came at the same time. Just great game design.

Got this one easily:
1. Extend fully and get it spinning!
2. Move to the top right hand corner
3. Just before releasing, retract the chain slightly. This gives added momentum.
4. Release at ~45degree angle
5. Tilt the vita so that he is pointing in the direction he is travelling.

When I got the releasing right I got ~3400 points with this. Not sure how good that was since I was offline at the time.

Also, it says I can ace that doodle jump-esque level (Can't remember the name, tilt to move, hold sideways, lots of bounce pads). I did but it says I haven't. ???

I've got to be honest, I'm absolutely hating the mini games. The fun is taken out of them because of the need to score high to get prizes. It's about time these games got a timer attached. A month and you can unlock everything. I buy these games to create with and I feel I have the right to that content. I will never ever beat some of these minigames and I think that's wrong

i agree with that. I generally hate mini games in most every game, and I also hate the fact that you have to do them to get the prizes. I spent most of my evening on Saturday trying to get a high score on that @#$% flower pop game, and by the time I finally 3 starred it, I was so angry I didn't even feel like playing the actual story levels anymore. I shut the game off and did something else.

Might as well face facts. I'm not going to platinum this one. I can't even complete the eye ball maze and the tower builder/flower pop/chopper throw/zombie/bounce pad mini games are too tough to get the high scores on not to mention the achievements on all the arcades game (unless anyone has some tips and/or can play with me to help?) and getting 100,000(?) points on bonce tap. If it weren't for them I would have been 3 for 3 on little big planet games not including the psp version.

Well I just got the eye ball maze finished and the flower pop, so I would stick at them because if I can do those anyone can. I'm terrible at anything else. Just go as fast as you can through the eyeball maze. That's how I did it. When you play the flower pop game, wash your hands and clean the vita screen. When you play it take your time and don't just try to flick the flowers upwards, move your finger up slowly, you have more time than you think.

I think the scores required for star ratings were set impossibly high in these mini games. It takes all the fun out of playing them and makes the experience feel like a chore and an irritation. Soon I will have to accept there are some prizes which I can never have in this game, just like the move pack.

It's frustrating for me because I only use LBP to create and I have little interest in actually playing, but I am denied a full palette of materials to create with because I lack the sense of timing and quick reactions needed to score in these games

Now the move pack prizes I did manage to get. The problem with the vita is the touch and tilt controls don't work as well as they should especially the rear touch pad. Your hands obscure your view and I keep wondering why there wasn't a stylus packed with the vita. I tried using a ds stylus when playing tower builder but nothing happened. Surely a stylus would make creating on the touch screen easier.

And in reply to GribbleGrunger the first time I played that maze game I was able to get near the end without dying but the last part drove me mad. On the second attempt earlier today I managed to finish it but I died a lot and was about 10,000 points short of getting 3 stars. I did manage to get all stars on the zombie bounce and chopper throw levels so that's something. Now if someone could help me complete the rest and tarsier could pull their fingers out and fix the lag in multiplayer that would be great.

You'd need a stylus for a cellphone with a capacitive touch screen. The Ds systems use a different technology.

While I absolutely agree that there should be something like a timed unlock for create items...I completely disagree that the touch controls don't work well or are unresponsive in any way.

I agree with Bonner about Collision Course being the most difficult (and it doesn't even use touch or tilt). This one is difficult because it's too random/unfair. Flower pop took a few attempts as well...but I actually enjoyed that one and didn't mind having to retry.

There was only one level that made extensive use of rear touch (and I don't remember any mini-games using it at all?). While I found the bug flying level an uncomfortable experience it was cute and also one of the easier levels to ace.

For me the easiest mini-game by far was the tube color sorting one...I only played it twice, got 2 stars my first attempt and 3 easily on the second. I recommend flipping the gate in the upper right to the left at the start and leaving it that way...one less fork to worry about.

The eye ball game and vertical bounce pad game are all about getting a decent score bubble chain going. You can do this early and then just get to the end without wasting too much time and you should have enough for 3 stars.

For Tower Builder, do as blastroid suggested and use any of the longer pieces (even the S shaped ones) to widen the tower base...a good base keeps the tower from getting too wobbly. Also, the farther apart your two fingers are, the more precisly you can rotate the pieces.

I understand the frustration, but you can't dumb everything down to cater to the lowest common denominator without having it lose it's appeal to gamers. Overall, I think the challenge level was pretty darn good...they just need to provide a way for those that aren't looking for a challenge and just want to create to get the items.

If your hands and your screen are greasy then this game is almost impossible. You sound very much like me when I'm playing games lol. Take your time with it. I eventually scored way over what I needed for three stars quite easily once I realised you don't flick, you hold drag and let go.

The secret of the maze game is to go through as quickly as possible. When you get to the big rotating cross, stay in the middle until it turns and then pull right and immediately down. I've aced that 6 times out of the last 7 and I've finally got three stars! I finally got three stars on the tower building by stacking in single blocks lol. It was wobbly but it got me over the finishing line. Bigger base, careful as you go and then craziness at the end is the best bet... well it was for me.

Thanks for the advice, and I'll give it another go. I think i'm just getting too old for these sort of challenges though. I would probably have breezed through them in my younger days, but I'm nearly 40 now and my reactions and eyesight aren't what they used to be. The trick is to clear the board once - so when the game starts focus on trying to complete anything on the back row...eventually you'll get a case where a bunch of flowers are anchored by two flowers at the back. Clear that and it's pretty easy to get three stars.

I gotta disagree with you on a few points. First the touch controls are unresponsive I can't tell you how many times I have tapped and dragged my finger across the screen and nothing happened and as for the rear touch pap while playing orb-it in the arcade there would sometimes be delay between me dragging my finger across the back of the vita and anything happening on the screen causing many deaths. I managed it in the end but still...

Secondly collision course is nowhere near the hardest mini game. Tower builder is almost stroke inducing and the maze level is tougher than the one in the move pack but everyone has different skill levels and what may be hard for some may be easy for others. Just look at the online scoreboards in any of the story levels. How they managed it I will never know.

Only issues i had were due to my excessive stupid, not the controls. With The exception of the tilt calibration issues with the eyeball level. Most of the levels are trial and error, and memorization. The difficulty isn't something that even applies on a lot of levels (Ok, it does on the sky-coaster and a couple of other levels.)

I can't thing of one level I would call unfair, but a couple were rage inducing until I hit on the pattern. Also, If you are trying to do anything on multiplayer, good luck with that. You are gonna be there a while. Lag has always been an issue with the online portion of EVERY LBP game, and this is no different. It ABSOLUTELY KILLS a lot of the touch controls, it seems.

You would think that with so many creators from the previous games working on this that it would be one of there biggest priorities to get the online side of things right this time. Surely they could have taken the opportunity to fix everything that was wrong with littlebigplanet and make it the best it could be even if it meant delaying the game a little.

Those stars are spawns from hell, waaaaaaaaaaaaaay too high score requirements.
The only part I got all three stars on every minigame is La Marioneta, it's impossibru.
I do enjoy the minigames though, they're all brilliant, with the exception of that flower thing in Land Of Odd, it's plain stupid and I can't even reach 1 star. >_>

Ah! Nothing better than a good rage to get some stars on those minigames. Eyeball thing, Check! :D

Yeah, I agree that the flower pop stars are way too hard :( Though there's some "tricks" to kinda make it easier:

When you "pop" pieces by throwing another flower into them you only get 10 points/piece.
However if another piece is "cut loose" by that first pop it gives you 50 points.
So instead of trying to just "clear the board" by matching pieces, you can try to kinda build big 'combos'.

If there's a row of say 5 blue pieces, don't throw a blue piece at them, instead try to stick as many other colours under that row as possible, but still leave 1 or 2 blue pieces accessible, THEN throw a blue piece at the space you left open. This will give you total 60p for the blue ones, but also 50p/piece for any other pieces that got popped in the process, so if you've managed to stick say 5 non-blue pieces on there thats 250 extra points.

I'm on fire, three more minigames done, that Jumping One at Sean Brawn, The Sorting One with Mrs Sunshine and the Zombie Jumping One.
Only 3 left :D Chopper throw, the driving one and ... Flower pop -_- (Who would've known flowers were so evil? :p)
Quick! I have to finish them before my rage wears off!

EDIT: Got 6590 on Flower Pop and it didn't gave me the third star.
I did 3 star the other two so that's the last one ... I WILL ace them all. First recharge my VITA though.
Keep trying guys, it's difficult but sure possible! :)

YOu need to make the winch very long, swing it around and right before you throw, make it shorter again. The sixaxis it like the wings should be and he'll float a bit further. Practise a bit and you'll have more than enough points. :D

Guys these minigames were not that difficult. They're basic games like bejewled and tetris lol. I love the games and have already 3 starred most of them.

Still working on that chopper throw one.

@GribbleGrunger: After you press R to throw the character, tilt your vita left or right in order to balance him out (rather than having him flip around while he's soaring through the air). If he's leveled out as if he's flying a plane, he'll supposedly glide further.
Also if you press O right before he lands, you can redo your throw without any penalty. Do this if you think your throw could be better. No need to have to retry the entire level over and over again if you screw up.

Adding on to what Nick said: you can also use your right thumbstick to change the length of the winch. Also, if you play with four local players you can get the stars much easier. Exploits are fun.

Really, it's not the fact that the minigames are hard, moreso that there's so much variety that some of us are good at some and outright terrible at others. For example, the tower building minigame and sorting were very easy for me but Collision Course and Eyeball Maze were pains in the ***.The score requirements also add some unnecessary stress, making the games a chore rather than fun. After completing all of the stars, playing the minigames was actually pretty fun. Bleh.

So what I did for the chopper one was to put the winch all the way out and spin the chopper counter-clockwise. release when yer just past tossing it straight out so that it has a slight upward angle, then do the tilt thing as mentioned above. If yo do it right you'll hit a wall at the far end of the level.

Thanks. That was a great help. It still took me nearly an hour to get it right, but I finally did it. The plane really does start to fly on it's own once you level it out, almost as though an engine kicks in and gravity is no longer a factor. When I scored I hit the wall at the far end of the level in a head on collision for 3,800 points.

I think I am going to agree with those who said Collision Course is the worst of the bunch. The randomness can create some impossible situations and make things frustrating. My biggest complaint however is the inconsistency of the point cars. Sometimes you run into them and they just explode which may or may not give you points. But other times you get caught on them and dragged off the screen. Then there are the ones that seem indestructible. The whole game comes off a bit flaky to me

Ok fine. I'm not typically one to complain but I'm going to throw my hat in the ring here and say that the Eyeball Maze is actually completely broken. Half the controls are backwards and half are not. Why does the eyeball roll away from me when I tip the screen towards me? And why does it snap from 100% up to 100% down? It's just... bad. I can't even do the simplest things like keep the ball in the center of the screen or make it go around in a circle to activate all of the lights.

I like the concept very well indeed but if I had built that level I wouldn't have published it. It simply doesn't work. I'm sure that I will eventually be able to train my brain that down is up even though left is still left, but it'll be a while. On the bright side I suppose I'll be playing this game for a very long time trying to unlock everything. :p

LOL. That happened to me once. Remember that the Vita will automatically take the angle you turn it on to be the base position for tilt, so if you turn your Vita on when it's on your lap the eyeball game works perfectly. It also defaults to the position you are playing after a while too.

Yea. If you are having issues just exit the level, make sure you are sitting with your vita leveled, then restart. It'll zero out it's sensors and you'll be good. If you hold it with the screen facing out as opposed to up it'll get wonky it seems.

The base tilt orientation is determined when the level loads. So, if the controls don't make sense, retry the level. As much as the calibration step annoyed me for some of the other mini games, you really start to appreciated it when a game doesn't have it! Also Taffey, stop slouching and sit up straight! :)

I need a break from the racing game, it's driving me nuts!! It's just far too random... I've made it into the 9,000s but that's as close as I get. What are you supposed to do when you get one car ahead of you and another behind and they decide to converge when there is only two tracks to run on? And those darn point bubbles you collect even randomise which side their going to be on when you enter the track link section. It's really frustrating. I've just got this, the jumping trough squares mini game, one level with electrified squares (which I can't remember the name of) and the final boss... and I'm done. But I'm really starting to think that I've come as far as I can.

I finally finished all the mini games and I'm pretty sure I will never play them again... Collision Course and The Eyeball maze were the hardest for me to clear.

The CC pointers I would give are simple. After level 4 you should avoid all cars. You should always keep your car centered on the lane lines so you can switch quickly. You should crank up that volume. Normally I play with the system muted since I play in public places often. But the audio cues make a huge difference in getting you prepared to dodge the blue cars.

With the Eyeball maze I just booted up LBP on a table and did not lift it up until I already navigated to the level. Then I played looking straight down at the VITA. There are really only three places where you have to be concerned about dying: the two walk ways and the place with the moving floor after the turnstile. The first two are simply just pausing right before and tipping in the right direction. The final one you need to come off the turnstile so your centered on the first shifting part of the floor. Then just as you're reaching the second one tilt down and to the right in a 45 degree angle and you should find yourself on nice safe wall. You need to make sure you combo the circles, especially the clown ones. Finally getting into the holes after the circles is all about being calm and less about speed. After opening them up I would set the Vita on the table for a sec and tilt into the direction of the hole. After trying this method it took me 3 attempts to beat it.

Tell me about it. Please can someone post a video showing how to get 3 stars on levels 18 19 and 20 of super conducter. I just have that and stratosphere to do and I've completed the arcade. super conductor is the only one i have three-starred. I dunno how i can get a vid for you tho. I'll try and see if i cant give you a solution to them when i remember what they were.

!!Hold the L or R button the entire time!!

1. turn the top row, first one where it directs the charge down and do the same with the only one on the second row. press the battery to send the charge.

2. once it clears the first one on the top row, turn it so that it will send the charge to the red double whatever it is.

once it passes by the first one, top row again, turn it so that it directs the second charge up.

press the red battery (first row, 3rd icon) and once it passes the middle icon on the first row, turn that icon and make the bottom icon direct into the bottom red goal.

!!!I think the L or R buttons are needed here too!!!
1. turn all the corner ones to they form squares with their respective pieces.

2. you will only need to worry abut turning the middle three in the bottom row for this. make the corner piece in the middle bottom row point the charge right.

3. once it passes the long piece for the right square, turn it.

4. turn the middle icon on the second row to face the right square.

5. as the red charge exit's the color changer, press the battery again.

6 & 7 As the charges pass their respective long pieces, press to turn the long pieces again.

8. before the red charge reaches, you need to direct it up.

9. the charges should hit at a close enough time.

wow. it took me an hour to do 20 right the first time (had the theory down, failed the execution.) I'll have to re-plot it out again.

Ok, I spent most of the day today and a good chunk of the day yesterday knocking out all the rest of the minigames that you earn you stars. Here's my opinions/advice on each:

La Marionetta:
Bonce Tappin'
I can see how this one might be a pain if you don't have especially quick fingers. I type relatively fast and also just finished working on my own tapping-based minigame when I played this, so I got 3 stars on my 2nd try. My advice: Keep your eyes in the center of the screen and don't focus on any one area - use your peripheral vision to figure out where to tap. Do your best to tap the Sackboys in the order they appear and just be as fast as you can.
Tower Builder
I like minigames that do not have time limits so this one appealed to me. It's modestly annoying, due mostly to the luck factor. My advice: Think out each block carefully and ROTATE them with a second finger before placing (Pick up blocks with an index finger and use your thumb or middle finger for rotating). Be gentle. If you are careful you can use the block you are holding to tap an existing block to a different spot. Try to build flat and level and hope luck stays on your side.
Wall Or Nothing
This one is mostly just a timing exercise that I found reasonably entertaining. It's not half as bad as acing some of the story levels, and once I got the timing down 3 stars came pretty quickly. Mercifully, this minigame plays fast. My advice: Moving left and right isn't much of a challenge - timing the jumps is where the money is. 20-ish seconds in the height of the windows changes so you can't do full height jumps so watch out for that. Just keep replaying and you'll get it eventually.

The Land Of Odd:
Flower Pop
This one probably took me the longest but I don't have quite the same feelings of hate for it as many other people. It takes a few minutes to finish a game so it can be a grind to constantly restart. Luck is a big factor in success here as well. My advice: Forget about matching flowers - that is only good for keeping the board clear but doesn't earn you jack for points. Find a long bar of the same color flower and pile as many other flowers on top of it as you can, and when you're out of room trigger the bar by matching another flower to it. All of the flowers left "hanging" are worth 5x points each, and that's how you get your 3 stars. Also, don't just flick the flowers - pick them up and push them carefully and it will be a lot easier. Don't forget you can also bounce flowers off of the walls for those tricky to reach spots.
Bounce Bop Hop
A tilt based platformer - neat. Plays quick, fun, I loved it. Air steering with tilt was tricky at first but I got used to it. My advice: Use both hands on your Vita for more precise control. Your main priority is not to die. Your second priority is to get to the top as quickly as you can - screw the score bubbles. Your third priority is to make bubble chains but only when convenient.
Collision Course
I guess all those years of playing Spy Hunter paid off because I didn't find this too bad. The randomness of the traffic is simply not fair sometimes but just restart if you get hosed. My advice: I followed Xenon's advice posted earlier and it helped a ton. Run as many score cars off the road as you can in the first few stages (don't forget you can nail the oncoming ones too), and then at stage 4 or 5 (whichever you're more comfortable with) just avoid all cars entirely. Straddle the dotted lines so that you can dodge more easily, and wear some headphones with the volume turned up. Most of the time you can hear the traffic coming well before you can see it which gives you a critical advantage.

Coaster Valley:
Chopper Throw
This for me was by far the hardest game. Entertaining yes, but maddeningly difficult to get a good toss. I gave it my best for about 20 minutes, and then resorted to selecting 'multiplayer' per bonner123's advice and got 3 stars without even trying. So... I cheated? You bet your bacon I did. My advice: Cheat. Selecting 3 or 4 local players ought to do it easily - just make a few lame throws with each player and you'll be done. If this makes you feel guilty and you'd rather be able to tell your friends you have morals, then hook up with someone online and play a friendly versus game with them and you'll also get 3 stars easily.

Spooky Mansion:
Zombie Springtime
Probably my favorite game of the bunch just because it's so funny, but it just seems kind of skill-less. It took me a while to figure out what you could even do differently that could earn you points. Regardless, replaying this one was a joy so I didn't mind at all. My advice: Aim for the food, plain and simple. Try to pull down the pegs that the zombies are standing on and they will get some serious air. That's about it.
Eye Ball Maze
As previously noted in this thread, this one made me semi-rage early on. Although technically this was due to the fault of the Vita hardware for its wonky tilt calibration methods, this is also not explained in the game itself. I don't like ball-rolling games at all because I am terrible at them, but once I got things figured out I hit 3 stars without too much hair pulling. My advice: Set your Vita down FLAT on a table and load up the level - this should calibrate your tilt controls and the eyeball will roll around smoothly. If this doesn't work, exit LBP and reload the game with your Vita flat on a table. Once you have the calibration figured out, just roll as fast as you can. Speed is your friend - going slow over the dangerous parts will only lead to tears. When you get to the parts where you have to roll the ball into a small hole, as well as the final rotating maze thing, calm down and just be methodical and you'll be done before you know it.
Sorting Panic
I really thought this one was going to be worse than it was. It sure looks complicated but in reality it's pretty straightforward. My advice: Keep your eyes on the top of the screen where the little guys are spawning and set up the gates accordingly. Sometimes you will have two different colors right next to each other, but you can flip a gate while a tube is going over it and it will still sort the one behind it normally. Stay ahead of the sorting and just be calm and logical.

I've finally managed to 3 star all except 3 of the mini games. Flower Pop I know I will eventually crack with perseverence but I accept defeat with Bonce Tappin' and Collision Course. I can't even get 2 stars on these. Bonce Tappin' seems broken since 25% of the time when I tap a head, it doesn't register my touch at all. Collision Course is just ridiculous with the random elements...I can't even get past the 2nd phase of the race.

Can anyone tell me if I'm missing out on any good prizes if I abandon my attempts at these 2 games?

It's not that we just want to play by ourselves it's the fact that the game is practically unplayable with more than one player and that's if you're lucky enough to connect to another player. I spent ages trying to find other people to play with and with very little success. You're either told that your request to join player has timed out or they refused to let you join and thats if you're lucky because most of the time you'll get a message saying failed to connect to players and end up back at your pod along with a lot of freezing. I was trying to find people to play the first level with so I could get the balancing act trophy but despite there being more than 50 people playing the level I could not connect to any of them and kept being told the player I'm trying to join hasn't unlocked multiplayer yet.

An actual co-op level would indeed be fun...these are not that. The story levels contain token 2x sections that require minimal cooperation and coordination...really just a needless obstacle to collecting the create items.

I see that you have not published a single level so I wouldn't expect you to understand. It's Play, Create, Share...some people choose to spend their time with Create so that you can Play. I don't understand the appeal of just playing community levels after the story levels are complete, but I respect your choice to do only that.

Nope. I always play with the power cable plugged in.

I'm not sure if my Vita is broken, but the touch screen has totally gone to crap with this mini game now. Sometimes I have to tap the flowers up to 10 times before it finally registers my touch, and after a few non-responsive flowers the rows have descended so far down I have to start again. This is getting so frustrating now, I'm just about ready to quit.

When LBPVita loads, wait until it says: 'connecting to online' and cancel it before it can. I always do that now. It might be antisocial but at least I can enjoy the story mode more. And rub your fingers on your jeans to build up that static! It seems to work for me.

Glad to see I'm not the only one raging at these. The sad thing is I might find them fun if I wasn't 'forced' to play them for prizes. (I never even liked 'having' to ace levels lol)

I always turn wi-fi off before I start the game, no lag, more battery life and no chance a guy will bug you while you're doing "that one jump that always kills you in that level" BTW, I finally owned Flower Pop. :woot!: Now I'll take ten thousand back-ups to be sure I'll never have to go trough that hell again. AND as predicted, the prizes aren't even THAT interesting, you get the music, some kin of grass material and a metal skin.
If you still have the courage, go for it guys! If I can do it, you can do it aswell. :D

I finally beat Flower Pop last night after a total of 9 hours trying (4 hrs on Sunday night, then another 5 hours on Monday). In the end I scored 7, 500, well over the score required. I felt no sense of relief or triumph, just regret that so much valuable time that could have been spent creating a level was instead wasted on this frustratingly repetitive task. Gaming is supposed to be fun, but this....well this was just an unpleasant chore that very nearly resulted in my Vita being smashed against a wall.

And yeah....the prizes were a real let down at the end of it all.

Wait, wait. I thought I got all the prizes, but I had no idea there were prizes available in the Arcade! I even tapped "More Info" on an Arcade game and there was no prizes page. It even gives you the "100% Prizes Collected" pin without even completing one of them! Well, back to work it is, then. *sigh* :moody:

The only icon that shows up on the level badge is the bronze/silver/gold Sackboy head to indicate whether or not you've played it and/or finished it.

Regardless, the Arcade seems slightly less frustrating than the minigames in the story mode. I collected all of the achievements because 1) I'm an addict and 2) I'm a trophy wh... um, collector.

Retro Vector
The easiest minigame and the one I liked best. It's pretty much exactly like Gravity Crash (if you've ever played that) only a lot more forgiving. Collecting all 10 astronauts in each level is no more difficult than just searching around a bit before heading to the exit.
Orb-it
Almost as easy as Retro Vector but equally enjoyable. There is a mild puzzle aspect to each level but the main mechanic is one of precision. Just move slowly (when you can) and this one shouldn't be much of a problem. Getting all three lights/stars in each level was pretty straightforward.
Tapling
Arguably the highest quality title in The Arcade - this one just oozes polish. Each of the 8 levels is fairly short, but getting all three stars on each can be a challenge. A couple of the levels I had to replay a dozen times or more, and often I felt thwarted with the semi-randomness of the jumping mechanic.
Super Conductor
I love a good puzzler and this one does not disappoint. A couple of the stages had me talking to myself trying to figure them out, so I know they were good. Figuring out the solution to each stage is not especially difficult, but getting it done in the shortest possible time to get 3 stars can be frustrating. Stage 15 was the most difficult for me to get right, followed closely by stage 20.
Stratosphere
This is an outstanding gameplay concept with visuals to match. All of the levels are fun and satisfying to complete, but collecting all of the orbs in the later levels is tricky. Level 10 made me want to flush my Vita down the toilet but I eventually got it. Once you've obtained 3 stars on each level (by collecting 100% of the orbs) you then also need to collect the 3 special orbs in each level. Thankfully you can do this as a separate task, and in this way it is a challenging and entertaining exercise.

Any chance you could give me some tips on how to beat number 20 on super conductor? It's the only one I have left to do and for the life of me I can't figure it out.Sure thing. If you could post/find a screen shot of the level that would be immensely helpful as I can't quite remember how it was laid out. Just do an in-game screenshot and upload it, and then I can get it from your lbp.me profile.

Anyway, assuming I am recalling this correctly.... For the first part you need to have both a red and a blue pulse arriving in two different places close to the same time. Send out a blue pulse from the starting point to each color changer, then store the two resulting red pulses in the two batteries. Release one of the stored red pulses back to a color changer, and right about the time the resulting blue pulse is released you should also release the other stored red pulse. The timing on this was tricky-ish as you have to make sure that the two pulses are pretty close to each other but not so close they collide and/or hit a switch that is in the wrong position. If you've done this right, both the red and blue timed processors should be on.

The second part starts just like the first. Release two blue pulses from the starting point, sending one to each color changer and then storing the two resulting red pulses in the two batteries. Release the two red pulses at the same time back to the color changers, and set up the switches so that the resulting blue pulses will end up in the two blue processors.

You will need be as fast as you possibly can with releasing the pulses, and of course you will need to be holding down L1 the whole time if you hope to get 3 stars. I highly recommend practicing the first and second parts separately to make sure you know what do to before trying to do them both in the same attempt.

^ This. This is a requirement to make anything near a good score.
Haha, I got 5103 points (21st at the time), and never knew you could rotate the pieces. Whenever things started wobbling, I'd 'catch' them by holding a block in place and shifting it until everything aligned. I had it 6 units wide for most of the level as well (built out from the original platform)

Took me 15 or so plays though.

Still working on the flower petal game. Played it ~30 times. My fingers don't work well with the small flower things. Most losses are simply due to being unable to launch the pieces. I've given up at 2 stars.

Surprisingly, I got the collision course 3 stars on my first attempt. I don't recall the score, something like 25000.

I spent 4 hours non-stop playing Flower Pop last night and couldn't score more than 4000! I think somebody at Tarsier severely overestimated what should be a reasonable score for ranking in this game. I wonder....how many more hours can I continue to repeat the same task over and over again, failing every time, before I eventually snap and kill somebody?

Lol, sounds like we all share the same amount of frustration towards this level. There were AT LEAST 10 times that I almost got 3 stars, but the touch screen froze right before so I couldn't pop anything. The game is broken!!

Pins and trophies are exactly all you should get imo. It's totally stupid that half of create mode is locked up.

It's a shame that's for sure, I could have easily learned a good chunk of create mode and be a good way into making my first level now in the time it's taking me to max out it all. Replaying something you don't really enjoy over and over to grab a few extra objects and materials is not that fun... but I really want access to the entire resource collection before I get fullly started (just got a brick wall material, so glad about that!)

Ya know, I'd have been happy if they just sold an unlock option on PSN. Not all of us are hardcore gamers, and it seems a bit odd to punish the creators by making them ace a bunch of levels. For this reason, I doubt I'll even get into create mode for LBP2 (Vita being my first LBP game).

Well, got all the mini games done! Collision course was the hardest, mostly because of the massive luck factor involved. Really you just gotta hope the game throws you at least 8 cars to smash in the first two stages to even stand a chance. That was no fun at all though... I hope any future LBP games don't make us grind minigames for a few assets.

I imagine some generous chap could make a "minigame prize" level and give away the items earned in the minigames. This could be a workaround for those that want to get to creating and want all assets before they begin. The official items wouldn't be in your popit in the official categories, but you could pull them out of your community collected section and use em.

Not a great solution I know, but a possibility to get around the headache if your finding it impossible.

I might be in the minority, but I really liked the minigames in the story and the fact that prizes were associated with them. The two toughest were clearly Collision Course and Flower Pop, but those were two of my favorite levels in the game. If it had not been for the prizes, I probably would not have discovered some of the intricacies of these games. In fact, I wish they had prizes for the arcade levels as well, that would give me more incentive to continue through the arcade levels (besides the fact that they are quite fun).

I ened up passing Flower Pop just out of luck. The whole 1-million-pink-flowers-in-a-bunch type of luck.

The block-stacking minigame was a slight pain in the side. I actually turned on four local players, got to 35 without losing a block, and then after realizing I didn't win anything, going back again and making it to around 40 before throwing a block in the deep, annoying abyss of colorful blocks.

But am I the only one having a little trouble with Bounce Bop Hop? I can never seem to get past 30,000 points. A person can only tilt so much :p

The trick is to keep your combo going as long as you can but don't go after bubbles if they aren't in your direct path. Get to the scoreboard as quick as you can. I got a x16 chain and that's all it took.

I think collision course is too hard. Because it's nearly impossible to get the high score of 12,000, I was more tempted to file a report to Sony. I haven't done it, but Tarsier Studios shouldn't expect us to work that hard. Either they increase the score on each unit, add more lives, slow down the game, or they should cut the skill point scores in half. Collision Course and Flower Pop are my least favorites.

Yeah... i hate those too. I did beat Collision Course though, it was hard, but with some tips in this topic (such as just only going for the points, and only dodging cars after level 4) i got all the skill rewards or whatever they're called. Flower pop is still too hard... the touch controls are kind of bad, and the flowers spawn too randomly and too fast. I did hear that you could beat it by clearing all the flowers off the screen in the beginning of the game, to get more points, then just play it, but i still just have one star if i'm right.

Being frustrated after trying to get it a bunch of times a few months ago and failing, and finally trying again whilst being more relaxed.

AND as predicted, the prizes aren't even THAT interesting, you get the music, some kin of grass material and a metal skin.

Ohhhh... So that's were you find the grass material! Oh God, getting 3 Stars in Flower Pop is going to be hell but it's worth a shot. Thanks! ^-^

Oh Flower Pop, the misery you brought me back in the day. Forgot, but not forgiven.

I actually hate trying to get all those prizes! Trying to get those 3 stars is like trying to preform heart surgery with a sledge hammer! Most often you tend to fail!
