I don't think that was needed at all. Why should everyone else suffer just because me and OCK got into a little argument over a vote? If you just dropped the "Biggest Show-off" category then everything else would be fine.
If some people get all depressed over not winning something, then that's their issue, and need to grow up.

I think if it was made an annual thing, and it was publicized some more, it could be much more enjoyable and more worthwhile. Don't end it, just have another think about the way it should be handled.

Quite, I don't want to never have one again just because some people got into a fight over how a few people voted (even though only a few people voted >_<).

I'm going to be the anomaly and say, "Good riddance".

Sure, it's fun and all that, but people are bound to take some aspects of it too seriously, and the way it is (was) structured meant that only the "more popular" people would get votes for categories.
Thing is, it's somewhat biased, and people are bound to complain about the results.
It's an abstruse popularity contest, if anything.

I don't know, I just don't like it.
Maybe if you restructured the whole thing it can become better, but the way it was, it was bound to be stopped.

I understand where you're coming from, but I don't believe that it is intentionally a "popularity contest". If someone is more active and therefore more well-known on the forums, they're bound to be more likely to be nominated for a category. It's not the voters fault, it's just that they'll be more examples of whichever person being funny, honest, intelligent or so.

But yeah, I would want it to be remodelled and improved upon. If it was to become more publicized, then more people would vote and there would be a wider array of opinions.
It's a great idea, that has a few faults. That's how I see it.

We have I think 3000 members though, with I think 1000 being added within the last month, which is quite a change. The Mighty Mite tank certainly brought in more people.

I think the original point of the competition was to allow people to change their names when they were not able to.

It's just now we have several key members with gold or elite status, which allows them to change their footnote thing at will.

So, if you combine all the things together, that being new people too daunted to vote, and old people most likely having no need to change their name, well...

The contest has some value, in that it gives people an idea of how they stand within the community, but with such a poor number of people voting it's not really all that accurate. :(

I kind of agree with Grim. I don't necessarily see the point of such a thing. If you could vastly increase the number of people voting it would help, but I can't really see that happening or fixing any of the issues raised. :(

Oh, it's definitely not a "popularity contest" intentionally, but, as you said, it'll inevitably be based upon one's activity and popularity.

Because of that schematic, votes will easily be handed out as "fillers" since voters won't be able to think of anyone that really fits the bill, and not voting for a category also brings up the issue of people winning titles just because their names were handed in, and not because they necessarily fit the title.
To be honest, I can't see a way around such a flaw, and I really will applaud the genius that comes up with a way around it.

There is no way around filler votes for popular users, probably :/.

You KNOW it's bad when Forsaken votes me most likely to stay on topic just to fill in a vote >_<.

See, see there? I just proved the idiocy of voting me most likely to stay on topic by straying off topic!

...

ANYWAY, there didn't seem to be much point, really, since many can change their title... I was hoping that we could be able to have those things Site filmers and mods have (the button thingies), but no... And Marino said something about a "special prize", but Code said he knows nothing of such, so I'm guessing Marino didn't share what his idea for a special prize was >_<.

It's basically a system for the highest posters to tag pointless signs on their heads.
"look at me! I'm the most likely to be killed by a falling toilet on my 42nd birthday!"
Too be honest, it's all a bit too gimicky and childish imo.
Nice concept though. Can't say I'd ever bother participating in it.

I believe I deserve my title. But if it was a decision that had to be done, then I won't go against it... It's not my purpose, and to be honest... I don't really care, I just voted... I'm not saying I didn't try to put the correct people in the correct spots, I definately tried. I'm just saying if people are seriously going to get butthurt over a thread, that in all honesty doesn't mean anything... I don't see the point.

It was probably a bit of my fault, I wasn't thinking when I kept Biggest Show-Off as a category. I should have seen this coming.

I just wish more people had voted. I only got 10 votes, there were bound to be some inaccuracies. I gave people 2 good weeks to vote so time shouldn't have been a problem.

And of course it's a popularity contest. Would you prefer me to pick out every superlative? Of course not.

I'm not sure how it could be restructured, as far as the voting system goes. I made it where the person with the most votes would win, and that would have worked... had I gotten more votes.

If you're not going to vote, don't try to tell me the system biased and/or innaccurate. If you had bothered to vote, it might have not been that way.

I'd like to start it up again sometime, but some users can't seem to handle not getting a superlative. :/

"look at me! I'm the most likely to be killed by a falling toilet on my 42nd birthday!"

That wouldn't be fair, as I know of two members that would be automatically disqualified for that title.

What?! I had to! :/

What's the overall issue here? The only problem I've seen brought up in this thread is that too few people vote. What is this deal with arguements?

That isn't the point. The point is that Valo didn't post in purple O_o

Anyway, looking back on it, the Superlative Contest does seem like a bad idea. It produced spam threads, argueing and a bad mood :(

I'm sorry you think so, but as far as I can tell, the contest produced more disappointment and disagreement than anything positive. It's got good intentions, but it never played out that way.

I agree with it gone. It's nice for the people that get on it, but it doesn't serve much a purpose and will ultimately end up with a lot of hurt feelings.

Either people didn't get on the list at all and are hurt, or people that didn't get in the category they wanted and got hurt, or people that got in the wrong category and got hurt.

That would make perfect sense if not for the fact that you could vote in as little or as many categories as you wished. I only voted in categories in which I though the person nominated truly deserved it.

Jelousy I guess. Props to the people that voted and took the results like MEN.

You weren't here when I went through about 10 tries to sell my Xbox 360 on eBay in order to get a PS3 when it seemed all hope was lost but I still tried my best and probably wasted about 30 dollars let alone in "listing fees" yet I still pushed through and sold it, never giving up.

Sounds Optimistic to me. ;)

I really should have voted you for most likely to stay on topic. BECAUSE YOU'RE DOING SO WELL NOW, RITE?

So anywaaaaay, yeah, superlatives were cool. That's my honest opinion (lol).

What if I came up with a system that made it as fair as humanly possible?

Sure, some people are going to get upset that they didn't win a category they felt they should, but seriously. I could not care for these people at all. I don't see why something that can be quite fun, and rewarding when done right should be dropped because of one argument over a thoughtless category, and a case of maybe one or two people who didn't win "B3ST M3MBA ON DA FORUM YAY!!1".

Give me some time to think up a new way to handle it, I'll pitch the idea to Cartman and then see what he says. It take up a week, I could take the rest of the year, I don't know.

Here's one. Give every active member a reward, with no negative attitude rewards like showing off. Then we're all unique! Just like everybody else :)

Note: Not a serious idea. It would make it boring and pointless.

I'm glad it's gone because no matter how active I am, the simple truth is I don't have a lot of personality. I don't like any contest that makes me feel bad about my lack of popularity.

Now, if you want to make a category about THAT I'm all over it.

:grr:

Interestingly, in my child's 1st grade school they made sure every child got an award. When they gave him an award for math, he got a mad look on his face in front of everyone. Later we asked him "what was wrong?" He said "I wanted the award for model student!"

The point is, if everyone get's an award than people will be mad at WHICH award they got (if they are like my 6-year-old).

;)

But we're not 6-year-olds. I'd hope people here can handle not winning anything without BAAWWWing their eyes out and ruining it for the rest of us.

And no, I'm not just defending it 'cause I won stuff. I honestly would be defending it even I won "Lamest Member".

I understand where you guys are coming from, but I have to base my decisions on what actually happened, not on how people are "supposed" to behave.

There's really no point to continuing this conversation, as it's not going to change my mind.
