So I recently wrote up a tutorial about how to make dynamic saving system for levels on the PSVita. I don't actually have a Vita myself, so i can't publish a working version of this system because it requires a memoriser. I have, however, made a prototype version within LBP2 which works similarly and can be used to demonstrate the underlying idea of this system; like something of a tech demo.

If you are interested in this kind of logic check out the link to my tutorial below which also includes details of how to acquire your own version of this prototype as a prize so that you may dissect and analyse the logic for yourself and become more familiar with how it all works.

I think the fact that you are coming up with logic for levels that you don't have a system to play probably means you should get a Vita.

Oh, and great idea by the way. Now that almost everything has postitional inputs this would work a with just positional pistons as well. I'll definitely think about implementing this sort of dynamic check point if I ever decide to make a platformer.
