View Full Version : Metroid: Planet Zebes

This track has been 2 weeks and countless hours in the making. It is not only my debut track, but my debut project in any LBP game!

The tracks premise is this: Samus Aran has gone missing, and you have been sent to the planet Zebes to investigate. You must get in, uncover the secrets held within the Chozo Ruins (in the form of 2 custom prize bubbles), defeat Motherbrain and the Space Pirates, and escape with your life. You will go through Crateria, Brinstar upper and lower, the Maridia tunnel, Norfair, through Tourian to "defeat" Motherbrain, and then you must escape the planet.

Let me know what you think. Around 95% of everything in this level is custom made. I beta tested it a bit on my own, but I can't anticipate everything. I left a bit of thermometer open in order to address any issues that arise.

Just played it. Failed the race miserably but the track was completely amazing as expected! You can tell you put tons of work into this, its very very good!

I loved this. The pixels are wonderful and the track is one of the smoothest I've played so far.

One thing, this isn't crucial but just a suggestion if you have the room. Personally I'm a big fan of custom weapons, especially on tracks with a strong theme. It might be cool to shoot those wonderful balls of energy that Samus has. I'm not sure how something like that would work, but it's a thought.

wow! this looks stunning. I might need to pick up Karting.

Thank you for all the fantastic compliments! It means a lot!

Anarcho: I wanted to add custom weapons, but I was running very high on the thermometer by the time I was done. I don't know if I will go back and add them. It's a possibility.

The very idea that my track might convince someone to by Karting is flattering beyond belief.

I said this on psn but i'll repeat here.
Creatures were really nice, there was always something flying around. The mountains and stars were really good too - you could really expand that idea with an outdoors starry track. Clarie ended up under the 'goo' tunnel a couple of times, there must be a way to drive under - perhaps check that area out.
If this is the first thing you've ever submitted on any LBP then you're gonna be awesome a few tracks down the line. well done.

Yeah, if you aren't careful you will go off the bridge through the Maridia tunnel, which is the "goo tunnel." I intentionally left the handrails off there, but perhaps I should make it to where going off the track there insta-kills you so you don't get penalized too much time for flying off. I will keep the rest as it is, though, since it was an intentional obstacle.

I'm honestly surprised that more people aren't having issues navigating the Motherbrain obstacle. I thought I ended up adjusting the jumps through her tube rather well, but I still occasionally smash into her and explode, and I made the darn thing! lol

Queued up and ready to go! :)

Oh.. I nearly always smashed into her. I assumed we were supposed to drive round it. I half wondered if she was a target that could be destroyed so I took a couple of pot shots at her with a rocket :D

The level is great but I did have trouble getting the prize bubble behind Mother Brain

The best secret to getting that prize bubble, and navigating the Motherbrain obstacle, is just to let the bounce pad take you. I swear, the more you try and miss her, the more you'll hit her an explode. If you just hit the pad and let it take you, you'll soar right through her like nothing, and it will take you right to the prize bubble if you do it on the left.

This is an amazing debut, Wigriff! I played this level the other day and absolutely loved it! A well-earned heart! The pixel work, the atmosphere, the flow of the track and the little obstacles. I eagerly await to see what you come up with in the future!

Finally got a chance to play this incredible race :D I am a HUGE fan of Metroid, so it was a lot of fun getting to play through this and see all of the intricate things you put into the level. I really like how you had the creatures doing what they would in the game (whether that be jumping around or spiraling into the course).

I think you did a great job with the balancing of the course. I felt like I was always neck and neck with the competition.

Seeing as this was a fantastic race and it was your first creating in a LBP game, I cannot wait to see what you come up with next :D

Thank you so much for the compliments poo. I'm really glad that you liked it so much. It means a lot coming from a Metroid fan.

As for what's coming next: Check out the "And now for something completely different" thread.

Looks really good! How do you make that 8-bit?

12-15-2012, 12:43 AM
Awesome track. The cut-out designs of "Metroid" enemies/bosses and Samus' ship are brilliant made, and the lighting is well-put. There's also some neat placement of weapons and scoreboards.
SOUND: 4.5/5
OVERALL: A yay and heart

Thank you so much for the kind words, reviews, and compliments!

Literally pixel by pixel. It took forever. ;)
