View Full Version : Tips for Better Kart Decoration and Custom Karts?

So I'm beginning to see people come out with really custom decorated karts almost as detailed as the amazing costumes we create in LBP2. My question is not how the detail is done, but instead how can you view your kart to get maximum detail. Is there a function that zooms in on your kart like it does when you are about to sticker yourself in LBP2. Or is the pod view all we have?

Also, could someone explain the stuff for making custom karts to me like the Kart Chassis or the Kartinator? Do you have to make your own wheels and can Karts equivalent to the detail of the ones we receive in game be created?

Unfortunately, I don't think there is any way to zoom in. It would make things a lot easier if we could!

As far as I know, your limited to only a few basic kart customization options on the kart menu. You choose from a list of unlocked chassis, suspension and wheels. Now of course you can use stickers and decorations, but there's no way to build one from scratch.

I thought you could build one in create mode using the kart chassis tool?

The kart chassis turns a custom object into a kart. You can add wheels to it, the chassis wheels aren't visible, I think. The kartinator is like the controlinator when used to override a sackbot, you send signals into it to trigger certain kart actions like steering, breaking, etc. I've seen a pretty detailed train on the forum, so detailed karts should be possible.

Wow, I must have missed that. That sounds awesome!

This is true but you cannot take that kart and use it as your permanent one. You are limited to using that kart only in the level that has it.

Well is there any way that you can add features or abilities to a player kart similarly to adding logic to a sackbot which copies the players costume? and How would I go about adding wheels to custom karts that function similarly to real ckarts.

It's even simpler than sackbots. Just put any logic you want on the player's starting spawn point, and it will be applied to the player's kart. For wheels, I would just stick some wheel shapes to the side of the kart. I don't think anyone's going to notice they're not really spinning. :p

But will the effects look like it's coming from the players car itself. For example, let's say that I wanted enemy AI to have machine guns that shot at you. Or say I wanted to give the player a feature where if a certain button on the D-Pad was pushed, it activated a certain custom feature of the car like smoke emitters or oil slicks (something that you dont need a weaponator to use). Could I put this logic directly on to the players kart, or do I have to build a seperate kart from scratch to do it?

You can by putting the logic on the spawn point
