View Full Version : Capturing an object with moving parts (big wheel)

I've been trying to make a big wheel for my suzuka based track but am running into problems keeping the passenger capsules dangling nicely from the wheel.

I can get it working if I follow this precise order only
- have wheel (two large cogs with bamboo spacers) stored as a captured item, static
- I have the capsules (basic shape with hoop on top) captured as a dynamic object
- I put the wheel into the level, then carefully place the capsules so that the hoop goes over the bamboo spacers
- attach a rotate motor to the wheel

This works. But if I try and capture the whole thing (for a prize, or to move across to a proper level), the capsules either just fall to the ground or stay where they are while the wheel rotates. So any minor tweak I want to do can take ages.

Any tips for this kind of object?

hi there,

step one: set all parts of capsule to NOT DYNAMIC
step two: attach rotate motor to capsule with motor pin
step three: pin the central rotate motor to the big wheel itself AND the rotate motor for the capsule
step four: set the rotate motor on the capsule to turn it the opposite direction to the main wheel so that it stays pointing the same way.

hope this helps, btw if ANY of the parts are dynamic the whole thing will fly off into the sky!
