View Full Version : How do I remove the stand from the Power Up Remover!?!?

I have an issue. The bottom stand of the Power Up Remover is solid. Any attempt to dephysicalize has been a failure. I can turn it into gas, but well.. that doesn't help me any since it is now a danger.

I just want a way to remove the Power Ups, but not have a stand floating around that Sackboy ends up standing on. I might try blocking it as it is on another layer, but not sure then it would remove the Power Up.

Any thoughts or advice will be extremely appreciated!!! :)

Edit: Well I was able to shrink the mass of the stand by playing around with a tethered jetpack and copying both of them. So it still will hold you, but not near as easy as it was. Still hoping to make it just like the Grabinator stand where you just pass through it.

hmmm, not sure, but can you dephysicalize and rephysicalize it while its inside of a wall, then cut out the actual top part of the powerup so you can 'collect it'? If its not a solid wall you're after, then perhaps an invisible thin layer or dangerous sticker panel?

I will give it a try!

I had thought of a panel in front to keep you from swapping layers, but didn't think it would remove the power up. I had another suggestion to make the player a sackbot and just keep him from changing layers, but not sure I would get the response I am now.

Thanks for the ideas!! :)

Really odd that some of the stands are pass through and others are not. Oh well... lol

If all that you want is to rid of the bump, you could just hide in the floor and mask it with a piece of dephysialised material. To get rid of the z-fighting you can just move the actual floor a few notches backwards, so that the dephysicalised fake floor is in the first sub-layer.

Hey Syroc!! Nice to see you!! :)

Thanks so much with that, but my issues is I have it floating mid air as part of a new survival challenge I came up with. I offer the grappling hook as a better way to make it around the topology which works great as the stand is already dephysical. The Power Up remover is not and gets in the way of the player allowing him to stand on it as well as swapping layers. The reason I have them both in the 2nd layer so as not to get in the way of the blocks coming down the line. However... now that I think about it, what you suggest may still work a bit!!

An older pic, but might help explain what I am doing. The Triangle with the spiral is the grappling hook. On opposite times, I emit the Power Up remover.

Have you figured this out jww? Or should I start looking for some solutions? :)

I haven't totally removed it. I have it super small and quite hard to land on it, but there is still the possibility of layer shifting. If you would like to take a shot to figure out something, please feel free!

I haven't had the chance to try out all the suggestions so far though. ;)

Alright. I'm trying to work on some EDReading homework right now, and then I think I have one or two more quick changes I want to make to my level, and maybe I'll see if I can get anything to work.

I assume crushing it did not work? XD

No crushing didn't work. The whole thing just vanished, even with scraping.

..and no hurry at all! Your homework and your level is more important!

If I remember correctly in LBP1, lethalizing the base allowed your sack to 'avoid contact' and not shift into the layer, but I think now you just wont receive the powerup at all... I would try lethalizing a material infused around the base using dephysicalize/rephysicalize, gluing it inside the base, then making the hazard non-visible??

Another idea! What if you had the lethalized thin layer sticker panel in front and had the powerup quickly come out to you? Set up some logic so that when the player is well above the base, a pulse signal activates an out/in movement on the powerup so you collect it very quickly without contact to the base??

Possibly.. my issue is I want it floating in mid air as a trap of sorts. In other words, it is not in contact with anything except a larger red X made out of sticker panel to more easily see it.

The grappling hook is very key to survival and taking it away is a bit of nastiness I want out there to keep it interesting while avoiding dangers and going for points.

Thanks!! At least something else to try and think about. :)

If you want, I have a glitchy powerup remover that's completely nonsolid, but it's bizarre and finicky and unstable so I'm not sure how much use it would be for you. Get this: half the time, it won't even physically rotate, it'll just tilt towards the camera.

If you want it though, tell me and I can put it up in a level.

Really? Wow... I might play with it if you don't mind!! I might or might not use it, but worth a shot!

When it rotates to the camera, is it with the stand towards the back as if mounted to the thin layer behind it?

Scared to ask how you even did it as I tried quite a few things!

Thanks!

Alright, the level's up, then! Sorry for not responding for a few days.

(My PSN is Mooseyard, FYI)

BTW, the way I did it was a glitch that involves R-selecting an object like a tag and then box-selecting a physical object, and then I pasted it on top of another tag on the side of a block of material. Bizarre, I know.

Very cool! I shall try it asap!!!

Thank you so so SOOOOO much! I really hope this works as it will be that finally little nitpick that I have an issue with in my level. :)

ps... Kinda funny as I wear a blue helmet too. ;)

Update! ..so excuse the bump. :)

Thanks again for doing that for me. Twas most cool and appreciated, however as much as it is dephisicalized it does not remove the grappling hook as desired. :(

I tried a few other things in messing with it, but as amazing as it is on being able to drop right through the stand, it isn't working as a power up remover.

Again.. really appreciate the help. Just feel awful to report bad news back to you.

Yeah, sorry about that. The powerup remover seems to define only the edges of its area of effect as the spot where its effect happens. The glitch that I did rotated it through 3D space and distorted its collision box to one-dimensional (which makes it dephysicalized for some reason) but also distorted its area of effect to basically be a single point in space. Basically making it near-useless.

I could try other ways of dephysicalizing it, but the only other one I know of is the chrome glitch, which is a 2-player-only Create mode glitch in LBP2, so I'm doubtful it's even possible. (Not to mention how finicky and frustrating that glitch is to work with in the first place...)

Of course, this would all be a moot point if Tarsier had actually made the powerup remover dephysicalize-able like it should be...

EDIT: This guy (http://lbp.me/v/354b96) somehow managed to turn powerups into thin gas in LBP2 (both invisible and nonphysical!) If you could figure out how he did it, I'm pretty sure it would still be possible in LBPV.

Well, you could always hide the powerup stand behind (or in) some dephysicalised material, if you wanted to try that - I don't know if it'll work, though.

Not a problem!! I really appreciate all the effort you put into it!

I know.. I don't know why that stand is physical when the grappling hook stand is. Sort of an oversight I suppose. :boo:

I will take a look at the link you sent. I am kinda crap at figuring out glitches. I'm better at figuring out fun platforming and level ideas. lol

I did try that. You can stand perfectly on top of the stand on in the dephysicalised material. At least I have it on it's side now. Less chance of hitting it to send you back a layer. I would stick something there to keep you from it, but I use that as my points bubble path.

Oh well.. Appreciate the help! :)

Hey jww, I figured out how to do exactly what you wanted! Somehow, I'd forgotten about the old dead matter (http://wiki.lbpcentral.com/Dead_Material) glitch (a.k.a. walk-through-walls glitch) until now! By using a destroyer set to "Fall Apart" and copying it before it disappeared, I was able to make the Powerup Remover non-physical to Sackpeople and physical to all other objects (basically the same as the other powerups.)

I updated the level on my Earth; you can swing by anytime and capture it.
