About the Game

It's based on Biggischnupsi's wonderful hidden objects levels. You have to find hidden objects in the many wild west themed scenes... but there's a twist. You have a time limit, so it's going to be fast paced. It's designed to be replayed because it's going to be very hard to find all the objects the first time.

Controls

L1 and L2 zoom in and out. X selects the objects. If you get frustrated and feel like throwing the controller at somebody because you cant find the object... triangle is a life saver. It skips the scene and lets you move on to the next object. Though you can only use triangle twice.

Players

Up to 2 players can play... or 2 players can play with 10 people behind you shouting over your shoulder. It would be a cramped room. I wanted you to be able to choose between the move and the regular controller, but I had such a hard time making the move work. Maybe i'll figure it out later.

Will definitely give this a go. Also, I need to play the rest of your LOST levels. Played the first part but never got around to playing the rest. :)

Great level, dear Smurfy! I played it and I loved it

You added some new gameplay ideas which make it really entertaining! Even for me (normally I don't like pressure of time)
Thanks for keeping the Hidden-Object-Fans satisfied :D

Wow, this was even better than the halloween one.

The new way of playing worked great, with the time and finding specific ones rather than being given a list.

The scenes looked great and your music choice was entertaining.

Having the objects the player finds posted on the wall was a small, but nice touch to the game end.

My only minor complaint might be the sensitivity on the cursor. But this is incredibly minor.

Definitely a fun object hunt.

wow, the scenes in this were really, really cool. Loved it! May be my favorite so far. At first, I wasn't too sure about the new gameplay mechanic employed but it soon grew on me. Excellent work man.

@Ali_Star - That's really cool you remember my Lost levels. I made the rest of the Lost levels 2 years ago lol.

@biorogue - Thanks! It's definitely adds a little more anxiety with a time limit and is faster-paced. I went with this gameplay mechanic because I thought it would work well with the wild west theme. I've been thinking it would be cool to do a little different gameplay mechanic each time that matches the theme.

@xxMateosxx - Really glad you liked it. I was trying to improve on everything from the Halloween theme. I didn't intend this, but I've noticed the Objects Found Wall is a nice photo spot lol. I've noticed the cursor being insensitive too. Not exactly sure how to fix this though :(

@ BiggiSchnupsi - Thanks! Looking forward to your next Hidden Objects game!

@ avundcv - Always look forward to reading your reviews :) Glad you liked the intro video. That part took the longest to make,

Great level, smurfy, I liked the last one of these you did but this one was even better, it looked so good & was a lot of fun, I loved the prizes too.

Greensmurfy
04-14-2013, 06:39 PM
Thanks Apecheese :) I may have put the last prize score a little too high lol. Nobody is coming close to it. I liked the scores last 3 digits staying the same heh. 750, 1750, and 11750. It's possible to get the last prize if you're like me and know where every object is lol.

And Biggischnupsi got a MM Pick!! Awesome news :)

Well... I shall play this one when I have time, I suppose. I don't need F4F, I just like reviewing stuff.

Review:

This game is one of those games I play LBP2 for. I don't expect every game I play in LBP2 to be awesome, because in all honesty, every game is not and that would be just stupid. I don't even expect every level to be good. However this game is great and is in my top 10 levels of this year so far. Now let me explain why.

First the music and audio altogether is a great fit to the western theme. It creates a comedic mood that LittleBigPlanet is all about to begin with and never is too mechanic. I was actually tapping my foot with the music. I could have never expected that the most captivating thing about a level with the main premise of you searching for hidden objects in pictures would be the sounds in it.

The visuals here are just awesome as well. The short movie may not be the smoothest animation-wise, but it doesn't need to be because 1) it doesn't need to be there to begin with and 2) it also immerses into the western world just as well as it would if it was. It's a great addition. The pictures are nearly all inspiring and they are just gorgeous execution-wise as well. However, I wish there would have been more of them, like just one more or something. But I guess I'm getting too picky. They are great!

The gameplay is the most important factor here and it's nice to see it being pulled off almost flawlessly. The possibility to use Move control is a great addition (even though I don't think you can yet, as it had a sign that said "coming soon" there) and might be the exact thing we want Move to do in this game. Even though I had to play this alone, I can only imagine the fun what playing with someone else would be.

The gameplay itself was brilliant also. There are a few suggestions I can make about it, however. I don't expect you to modify your level based on these but here they are:

1) I wish there was a little more time to play. Restarting the level to get a better score takes a while and in comparison to the time it takes to actually play the content it may be a bit too long.
2) Some of the hidden objects were located in locations that were very difficult to locate, either because it doesn't make any sense for such an object to be in that location to begin with, or it blends too well with its surroundings (the owl in the one with lots of vines).
3) Lastly, while music was great it would have been a great addition to choose from a different tracks. I know, it's not necessary but if this can be done, there's no excuse not to.

That's all I can suggest to the level on my behalf. While it doesn't exactly blow up planets with its awesomeness, it is definitely a fantastic experience and should be played, even if one is not a fan of the hidden object -genre.

Audio: 9/10
Visuals: 9/10
Gameplay: 8/10
Conclusion: 8,6/10 Excellent!

This level/game was just amazing. However, you may feel that I was unfair at a point or two here. If so, please be free to express your opinions and also know, that these are only my opinions.

Wow, this has to be the best review I've ever gotten. Thank you very much for taking the time to play my game and write this.

I also wish there were more scenes. The scenes don't take too long to make, but I would have to redo the logic that makes the scenes and objects match up. That would take forever. I figure it would be more worthwhile to work on my new hidden objects game.

I've been toying with an idea. The starting area will be a map of the united states. Around 10 different scenes can be selected from the map. Popular landmarks like the Golden Gate Bride, New York City, Yellowstone with a R.V. in every scene. Smurfy's Hidden Objects (Road Trip Edition)

As for your suggestions, I agree with all the points you made.

1) I made the opening animation sequence skippable several days ago. I don't know if you played my game before or after I made this change. It's a little faster to replay the game now. I could add another minute to the timer, so the game doesn't end too soon.

2) The owl and the black heart are the reason why there is a skip scene option. I knew people would have a hard time finding these two objects. They blend too well into the background. My reasoning is I didn't want there to be tons of comments on how easy the game is. Though I still have gotten comments that it is too easy lol. I'll go back and see if I can improve some of the locations.

3) I never thought of the option to choose music. That's a good suggestion. Though for some levels every button on the controller does something different, it's hard to remember what button does what. I'll have to make it so it's easy for people to understand how to change music without getting in the way of the game.

Thanks for the awesome feedback :)

I think that's kinda the point. :D

You see, they were in such locations that they were difficult to see even if you looked directly at them. They blended in the background too well (look at Greensmurfy's comment above).

So no, that is not the point.

Congrats on the pick! This looks and sounds cool and I jsut put it in my queue. Can't wait to try it. I'll come back with feedback.

EDIT:

F4F - Smurfy's Hidden Objects (Wild West Edition)

Level Thread:
Excellent presentation and pictures. My only complaint seemed to be that the pictures looked a little fuzzy? Did you edit or resize them with another program before posting? No matter, because you did an excellent job here setting the stage.

First Impression:
This looks like fun. A nice menu with a tutorial, which I thought was a tad confusing. I absolutely loved your stop animation for the animals at the beginning of teh watch and playÖit was well done.

Environment:
The environment was well thought out and cohesive with a nice Western theme. There were lots of great sound effects littered throughout.

Controls:
Even though the tutorial didnít seem to help me too much, I didnít really have a problem with the controls at all. Everything seemed to work great except one instance where I clicked on the cookie jar I needed to find and it gave me -50pts. I was pretty sure I was spot on there, but no big deal.

Gameplay:
This was my first time ever playing a level like this and it was a nice change of pace. The timer adds a lot of nice suspense to the level as you try and hurry to find everything in time.

Entertainment:
Fun with a capital fun. This seems like it would make a great party or versus game.

Replay Value:
Tons of replay value here! Great job!

Overall Impression:
Yea and hear from me and Iím looking forward to your next one.

Here are a couple of F4F choices for me. Unless, you have a lot of time, I suggest the ďLITEĒ version. Thanks!

I didn't use any programs or resize them.

This looks like fun. A nice menu with a tutorial, which I thought was a tad confusing. I absolutely loved your stop animation for the animals at the beginning of teh watch and play…it was well done. Glad you liked my animation intro movie. I originally was only going to make the cowboy riding the horse. I liked it so much, I thought it would be really cool to do a stop animation sequence. To be honest, I didn't spend a lot of time on the tutorial. Not really sure my game needs a tutorial heh. Was the way I typed confusing?

Environment:
The environment was well thought out and cohesive with a nice Western theme. There were lots of great sound effects littered throughout. Thanks. It was fun trying to match the sound effects to the objects. Like when you hear a chicken in the background as you are finding the egg.

Controls:
Even though the tutorial didn’t seem to help me too much, I didn’t really have a problem with the controls at all. Everything seemed to work great except one instance where I clicked on the cookie jar I needed to find and it gave me -50pts. I was pretty sure I was spot on there, but no big deal. Another person had problems with the cookie jar too. Not sure why that is. All the objects have the same large radius to click on. I think it's the camera that's the problem. It sometimes gets out of wack and changes the angle a little bit.

Gameplay:
This was my first time ever playing a level like this and it was a nice change of pace. The timer adds a lot of nice suspense to the level as you try and hurry to find everything in time. I also have graveyard theme without a timer. It's a little more relaxing to play.

Thanks. I have my next one all planned out, but haven't started it yet. I like to take my time, so it will probably be awhile heh.

queued it it looks great. It may take me as few days to play because I have wrist problems and gaming has been hurting them so I am trying not to play for a week or so to give them a rest. Which is very hard.

Thanks :)

I wasn't aware of this type of lbp game until I played Schnupsi's hidden objects game. She later got a well deserved MM pick for it :)

It's really fun to make and gives me an excuse to use my dust collecting Move controllers to paint the scenes.

My next game will be a lot more relaxing to play with no time limit. I figured because of the wild west theme, it would fit to have a fast paced game.

It will play more like my first hidden objects game that was a graveyard theme, but with more pictures.
