Thinking of getting one sometime soon instead of a PC desktop. Vista is sucking, and I don't want to deal with it. I know some people on here have them; they're more expensive than a PC, are they worth it? (Don't count the cool factor)

they are great for multimedia and basically everything but gaming, I have a mac mini and a toshiba (vista soon to be linux) laptop, the mac... although wildly overpriced is well worth it and my computer of choice.

I have had one for awhile now(the black macbook) and for the longest time i just used it as a vista machine. Then about 3 months ago I thought I should try the mac again...and really started to enjoy all the features, startup shutdown times active spellcheck, nice form factor. I have to say though not everything is so intuitive and easy to use, even coming from a PC i still find random things kinda stupid, though cant think of any off the top of my head trust me there is a learning curve.

bottom line if you have the money and want something to learn you should grab one up.

I wouldn't get a Mac...yuck.

Vista is not bad at all, I have no idea what problems you are having with it, but it has to be user made.

The filesystem on a mac is much more intuitive and no one is allowed to argue with this unless they own both.

I've never tried it. Just so many horror stories about compatibility problems,, crashes, running slow, etc. So many people are "downgrading" back to XP, I'm just afraid the same'll happen to me.

What those people tell you is crap. I have been using x64 ultimate for over a year now and it is loads better than XP. I know a lot of other people who have as well.

Not doubting you, but PC Mag and the like disagree. Several techie friends also are telling me to avoid it. I don't know, I may end up going with that simply because of the price. But considering that the next OS from MS is rumored to be out fall of '10, that makes me triggershy.

Half of the people that used Vista used it over a year ago, or when it came out, and 99% used it before SP1 that say it is bad. SP1 made a hell of a difference, and now in gaming and things such as that it is equal to XP, even exceeds it in some areas.

Hmmm...but doesn't the speed factor in? It still does require 2 gigs of RAM, which would make it run slow, right?

Not AFAIK. There are people who run it on 1gb and are fine. I use 4gb, so I have memory to waste anyways, but I also use tons of things at 1 time.

I think if you hit the left side of the button, it functions as left-clicking. Ditto with the right side. It's touch-sensitive.
