View Full Version : Something strange is happening to emitters and tag sensors :(

During the last few weeks I have been noticing something strange. Emitted Objects (mostly sticker panels) seem to blink and flicker for no apparent reason. It is like it disappears and than reappears without warning, no destroy logic connected. The weirdest part of all is that the game seems to still recognize that something is there.

Like if you emit an object and open a microchip on the emitted version, after that destroy it and notice the microchip you have opened is reset, makes sense. But here the object seems to disappear and the microchip you opened previously is still opened, when it should be reset, like if it actually disappeared. It is like it only disappears visually because sensors on walls that flicker off still work as if nothing happened, the floor will go visually but you can still walk on it, and no it is not the stickers disappearing the whole part seems to go away and come back without going away at all logic wise and physical wise.

Seems to be a serious rendering issue brought on recently by the new update because I have never went through it before this update, strangely older emitters do not have this problem. There also seems to be a problem with tag sensors activating without warning as well, I have checked thoroughly make no mistake. Thing is if you try to pause real quick to investigate the problem it seems to correct itself, same with the emit bug. No matter how fast I was in pausing it, it would always correct itself,as if nothing was a miss.

I just wanted to put this out there to see if anyone else has experienced this, and a hope for a patch. This stuff is as bad as the broken live capture feature some months back. :)

I've seen some sticker panels (and maybe other stuff too) become invisible in create mode, but those weren't emitted, and flying away and back seemed to fix it. I assume it's due to high local complexity (I was comparing many different objects with large stickers to see which looked best), cause I've had that warning message a few times.

Those are great theories on what's happening, but that does not seem to be the case here. The object seems to disappear entirely, not invisible. My areas are indeed complex but I have used the emitter for a long time and this is the first time this has ever happened in any circumstance. It also happens in play mode as well. Nothing seems to actually fix it, it seems to flicker/disappear every couple minutes. There is no destroy sensor or wire connected to them, they have no reason to flicker at all, and have never done so in the past regardless of complexity. Again only emitted objects seem to have this problem, the decorations on the sticker panels also disappear briefly as well. Logic on the sticker panel walls still activate even when they seem to disappear, it is like some sort of rendering issue beyond complexity and more glitch territory.

The object disappears complete, looking at it in create mode with preview off shows the object disappear then reappearing, no transparency changes, the object is gone then after 1 second reappears. This may go along with the Random activating tag sensors as well, again all happening recently, never has in the past under any circumstance. Logic does not seem to be affected accept for the self activating tag sensors. It is like it does not disappear at all when it comes to logic. Maybe live cap is bugged again, but this stuff needs to be fixed. I can not have my level rooms randomly disappearing then reappearing when it is being played by others. It looks badly on me, like I do not know what I'm doing which is far far from the case. Spent to long on this project for it to have these random anomalies that lowers the quality of my series, especially when it has never happened in the past for me, period. :)

They need to fix it soon.

Okay, maybe I'm misunderstanding, but how is it different from invisibility, if the logic keeps working? Can you walk/fall through it?

It is kind of hard to describe really but here goes.

Imagine making a complete sticker panel room (floor as well), than the invisible material glitch ( very common to use) to have a solid barrier to walk on and to keep you in the area. Now glue everything together and then emit. Every so often the sticker panel would disappear but the invisible ground would not, the problem is that there both connected so everything should flicker and make you fall to the ground, but it does not very strange indeed. The more I think about it the more I think tag sensors are the cause specifically reversed tag sensors, normal tags sensors do not seem to have this problem at all. My real room is supposed to disappear for real when another room is selected, when another selected the tag for the previous room activates and destroy allowing for the current room to emit. The Emitter may not actually be the problem after all but the emitted NOT tag sensors may be the true reason for this issue, there the ones flickering on for no apparent reason. But it is still strange, hard to put into words unfortunately. I'll try and see if the emitted NOT tag sensors are causing the problem.

If your up for it I can show you first hand on what's happening, message me when ready and I'll let you join in game. :)

This happened to the level I made with my friend. We managed to fix it though.
http://lbp.me/v/jw7486
The emitted sticker panels at the "car" part kept disappearing and the tag sensors pretty much stopped working at the end (which caused things to be destroyed prematurely and that was a pretty bad bug)
Emitted sticker panels with "on/off" logic will flicker and blink...
The solution we found was removing any logic from the sticker panels and using different colored tags/less labels/deleting unused logic. But the lava boss fight still has a problem with the tag sensor...but it's minor and we didn't fix it. I know it's LBP's fault, my logic was fine.

Yeah, tag sensors seem to be the problem here, good thing there is alternatives. This level series would not be possible without the emitter I can assure you. :D

Still this is a serious glitch that needs to be fixed ASAP.
