Hello LBPCentral!

I've now gotten the honored privilege to announce LBPCentral's 11th Crown Contest!

Welcome to the latest LBPC Contest. First though we would like to say farewell to Missi_Cat who is leaving the Crew. A huge thank you to her for everything she's done. We'll all miss her!

Now without further ado, on with the contest!

“My parents always said I should make new friends!”

You’re good at making new friends, right? Great, because that’s exactly what we want you to do for this contest. This time we're focusing on the beauty of friendship as you're asked to create a level that features cooperation between yourself and a purpose-built friend!

The task is to create a level which in true “Buddy System” style can’t be completed without teamwork between yourself and a friend, and not just any friend, but one you built yourself. So get out your drawing board and fire up your imagination! What kind of artificial intelligence will you go for? It could be a sackbot, drone, a can of pop-fizzler…anything! Just be sure to make your companion interesting and full of character! After all you’re going to be spending quality time together…

The contest will focus not just on mechanics (although there is huge potential for their demonstration) but also on character creation, communication and artistic style... hopefully, something for everyone.

The winner will be awarded a Crown and an LBPC Pin and up to 2 runners up will be awarded a $20.00 PSN card each (or its nearest equivalent in other currencies).

Building requirements

The task is to build a level that focuses on team work between yourself and a ps3 controlled character (an NCP essentially). You and the artificial intelligence should not be able to complete the level without each other’s help.
The artificial intelligence (AI) you make must have an avatar of some sort, whether it be a mechanical drone, a sackbot or a hologram.
We must see some sort of interaction between your AI and the level. We don't physically have to see the interaction as long as it is implied. For example, we could see the AI pushing a switch for you, but equally we could see it being absorbed by a computer console and a screen flashes, both actions achieving the same effect of opening a door for the player.
We must also see interaction between your AI and the player. To give some examples, this could be anything from the AI defending you, providing light for you or it depending on you for transportation through the level.
Provide a method of communication between the AI and the player. This could take the form of speech bubbles, thought bubbles, pictures on screens or even pure speech if the creator has a microphone... or for those musical folk, communicate to us through short bursts of musical variety. In short be creative.... Your A.I’s personality is important to us, you want to make them likeable but not out of character for the situation presented in the level. Are they calm and calculating, fragmenting and confused or humorous? Your call.
Provide a backstory for your AI companion, how were they built, why are you both here together in the level? Get us to be emotionally invested in your character.

Rules

• Create an original previously unpublished level of any genre (except movies - see below) based on the contest theme.

• The level must include gameplay so no movie levels, please! It can contain cutscenes.

• One level slot/thermo per entry.

• All entries must be playable in LittleBigPlanet 2 only. No cross-controller levels. Wormholes (and other cross-controller DLC) within a level without using the cross-controller functionality are allowed, however.

• Publish your levels between 20th and 28th July (final deadline is 11.59 pm GMT on 28th July) and include the text “(LBPC11)” in the title of the level.

• Post LBP.me links to your levels in this thread, so we’re sure not to miss them!

• You can only submit one entry.

• After the deadline, do not republish. Levels republished after the deadline will be disqualified. Exceptions may be made for quick fixes with respect to level titles, description, badges, or major game-breaking fixes, but only with the prior consent of the contest crew. If you need to request an edit, please post in this thread and send me a PM.

• Last but not least, have fun, play fair and respect other creators, LBPC members, Judges and Staff! (Contestants banned from LBPC at any time during the period of the contest are automatically disqualified from it)

Also a little Handy FAQ for you all

Q: Can I enter a previously published level?
A: No.

Q: Can I enter a level I already have on my moon, but hasn't yet been published?
A: Yes.

Q: Once I've published my entry, can I republish it?
A: You can republish it during the publishing window as many times as you like, but mustn't republish after the deadline.

Q: When will the judging begin?
A: The judges may take a look at some levels prior to the deadline, but the judging proper will not begin until after the deadline.

Q: When will the results be posted?
A: We can't really give any accurate answer to this, but it will be no more than a month after the judging begins.

Hmm... It looks awesome! And it is going to take my vacation!
Something is telling me to enter on this! Maybe yes, maybe not...
Does "the Helper" need to be controlled? I read that rule, but I didn't understand at all... What if it only assists the main character?

What about hte current v1.24 bugs? Aren't they going to be a problem on this contest? I mean... I was having problems with the gates on the Opposite setting, they weren't working as desired.

Good luck to everybody on this contest!

Your buddy does not NEED to be controlled, but you will NEED your buddy to complete the level.

If you're talking specifically about controlling, you can say that you're controlling a Sackbot. Especially if you are recording Sackbot animation. Or doing Sackbot A.I. (Tag/Tag Sensor logic system)

Jauw's right. When the rule refers to a PS3 controlled character that's just to distinguish it from a player. It just means an NPC - in other words, this contest isn't a contest involving co-op action between two players but between a player and some kind of AI. Hope that's clearer. :)

EDIT:

Well, sadly, we only had 5 entries for the Vita side of LBPC10 and PLCC5 which was dedicated solely to LBPV only had 4 entries. Those sorts of numbers just don't make a Crown contest sustainable, I'm afraid. :(

Darn, I would enter this but I'll be busy that month. Oh well.

Maybe I'll be able to convince SLS10 to get back on LBP2 to whip something up, but that's contingent upon LBP2 actually being stable. King Hint Baux IV needs to make a reappearance, and I have a pretty dandy idea.

I'm a little confused by the rules though. So...you have to make an A.I. character to help you create the level? Or an A.I. character that's part of the level gameplay, which you created yourself...

I'm pretty sure you can't have voice commands in this game.

The A.I. has to help you complete the level from a gameplay perspective... but if you want it to build parts of the level in play mode, that is fine too.

No you can't use voice commands... so you need to be creative. However, we only ask that the A.I. communicates with you, you don't have to talk to it.

You have to create an AI character to be part of the gameplay in the level and to work with the player so that they can "complete" the level in the sense of getting through the level and reaching the scoreboard. It's like a co-op level but with the player working together with an NPC instead of another player.

The character has to communicate with the player, which can be done through voice acting or through ordinary speech bubbles etc. etc

EDIT: Lol! /sniped by David - need to be quicker!

No the level does not have to be a platformer. You can create any kind of level, except movies and anything that doesn't feature gameplay. Only the sky is the limit!

Yep, I think this might be a contest for my / SLS10's unique brand of stupidity. If I have time I will enter something. I have a silly idea that might be fun.

The silly idea is fun, I'm entering. There's no way in hell it'll win but it's fun. By its very nature it's impossible to polish but I'll do my best. :P

This is actually a very good idea. I hope people will be forced to build things that help you gameplay-wise and don't just open doors for you in cutscenes. I'd enter SackDroid - Part 2 in this, with PJ being your buddy, but I'd probably be about 5 months past the deadline. I'm not even a perfectionist. I'm just slow.

I've been wanting to enter an LBPC contest for a long time now, and this one is perfect for a lvl i started last xmas but ran out of momentum on it due to other games and other lvl ideas. Its quite an ambitious project with lots of AI characters and mechanical obstacles.

This is just the push i need to get on with it, i've got my first play though of 'the Last of Us' out of the way and new game+ can just wait.

Thanks for reigniting my creative spark Central, lets just hope 40ish days is long enough for me to finish this, anyone who knows me will know i take a very long time to finish anything, if at all, cos i'm such an ocd perfectionist. Having a deadline is just what this project needs, as thats the only thing thats made me finish other lvls in the past.

One question though, can we have multiple AI buddies, like 10 or more?

Taking inspiration from other games is fine. If you simply recreate another game, however, it is possible your level wouldn't score as highly as a more original entry. I'm sure you could put your own spin on this NES game ;)

One question though, can we have multiple AI buddies, like 10 or more?

There's no limit to the number of buddies (lol, I'm now thinking of all those minions from Despicable Me!) but remember that we want your companion to have some personality and character so you'll have to find some way of making some or all of them engaging!

Couple of questions from me too.

1. Are Playstation Move levels acceptable?
2. When you say the NPC has to communicate with you, to what extent does this need to be done? The idea I have requires the NPC following you to have only limited amounts of communication. That is, it will obey commands, but beyond the occasional noise, it's not exactly going to be a conversation piece.

The idea is that the player controls a character and another character controls itself... it's up to you how you do that.

1. Yes

2. Occasional noise is fine as long as it is meaningful... for instance your buddy could make a scared noise if it notices danger... or a happy noise if it sees something that might help you. The point is that your buddy has to try and tell you things... the more imaginative the better... you might use noise but others might use visual effects, some might have thought bubbles and others might use speech. Just be creative.

Nah, bonner kicked the habit of directly using intellectual property and has moved on to being "inspired" by them.

Don't bite the hand that feeds you numerous cube-based gameplay ideas, "associate". Also, they are not necessarily companions, but mutual dependencies. In other news, SLS10 will enter instead of me because it is time for him get a crown. I will be his helper monkey, or whatever. It will involve the power of devils and gross narcissism.

I believe that if the companion dies, you need to be the one who euthanizes him or her. Ideally with a blunt instrument, such as a raccoon.

(Don't listen to anything I say)

Thing is, then you run into the issue of an unfair advantage. Vita has many superior features, but LBP2 has a much more active community. Also, not all judges have a Vita so it wouldn't be fair.

This have been discussed between the judges and yes you are allowed to create a level that requires the Playstation Move Controller.

shropshirelass
06-19-2013, 04:04 PM
Kato's solution of making the level beatable without a Move seems the best way to go, however. It has the added advantage that he is less likely to miss out on plays from the community. : )

Kato
06-19-2013, 05:28 PM
Yeah, it's going to be Super Easy with a Move since you'll have greater accuracy with where you want your Buh-ddy to go when it follows you, but Grabinators will also work. They may just take a bit more finesse. As long as at the end of the day somebody comments something to the effect of 'DAWWWWWWWWWW!' I'm good.

One more legitimate question. I see no sub-levels, that's cool. But what kind of level length is preferable? I look at my designs and think "Wow this is going to be way too easy, people are going to finish in 5 minutes." I'm trying to make it more accessible to the community by being easier.

Djibees
06-19-2013, 10:42 PM
Kato: until now, community contest levels have no required length.
For the last LBPC contest, there were levels that could be finished in minutes, and others in more than half an hour. I suppose this will be the same thing here.

We'd recommend a play time of between 5 - 10 minutes, preferably about 7 - 8. We get a lot of levels to play through and it'll speed up results if we can see enough of your design to get a good impression but without it being long winded and repetitive.

Although officially there is no time limits, as long as we don't get bored or don't see enough.

1. Does the partner have to be completely AI controlled? Could you make a level where its possible to switch between characters? What if you can switch between them, but you have the ability to call the other character toward you?

2. Can you have more than two characters? What about four?

I ask because I'm already in the process of creating a level involving switching back and forth between multiple characters. Each area will involve teamwork and each character will have unique abilities. The contest seems perfect for me, except my characters aren't completely AI controlled as you can switch control to another character on the fly. Its possible to command the others to follow you, but is that enough for this contest?

Hopefully so, since I just pulled this level idea out of nowhere the other night, and this contest seems like perfect timing.

1. Your buddy must be a full A.I.

2. There can be more than one.

Ouch, I may have to sit out of this one once again then. My characters are not fully AI controlled since you have the ability to switch between them. Oh well.

Your buddy has to be an NPC, so you mustn't be able actually to play as your buddy but you can control him in the sense that you can make him do things for you. He just has to be AI and not playable , if that makes sense.

If people want a vita contest. Don't submit any on lbp2, make them all on vita except for maybe one or two people because it isn't fair to vita owners that paid over 250USD not including the 30-40$ on lbp itself for this one reason.

If any of you want a cameo, I've got a topic here (http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?80489-Crazy-People!-I-Need-CAMEOS-In-A-Level&p=1111369#post1111369) explaining it.

wow. 1st, people don't want a Vita contest. That was evidenced in the last two contest, LBPC10, where we allowed Vita entries but only got five, and Planetarium's VITA ONLY contest which saw only 4 entries. If people wanted to enter Vita contest, then there would be more entries.
2nd, vita owners bought a Vita and LBP JUST to enter contests? I'm not buying that for a red hot second. Trust me, I'm sure there will be opportunities for Vita owners to showcase their skills.

Hi everyone,

Can I please have some mods' thoughts here:

I have set up the right analogue stick to emit different noises. Depending on the noise produced, my buddy will move in a straight line or become stationary, i.e., it continuously moves left, right, up or down and can be made to stop. This feature is turned on and off in certain sections of the game, otherwise you have to carry the buddy or use physics to move it around.

I'm considering it AI in the sense that the PS3 is controlling the motive power of the buddy when the buddy responds to sound. I'm hoping to give the impression the noise is causing the buddy to react, not that the right stick is driving the buddy.

Is this acceptable within the rules? I'm not sure if I've interpreted them correctly.

Many thanks!

It would be considered an A.I. if the bot realises that a noise is a command and moves by itself in the correct fashion - Perhaps the stick activates a tag which the bot senses and reacts with a movement via sequencer and analogue inputs.

It would not be considered an A.I. If you have simply connected up an analogue stick to make it run in a direction and masked the movement with a sound as you're simply controlling the bot.

The key thing is that although your buddy can follow commands it shouldn't need to all the time, we want you to make a friend to play with... not another bot to simply control along side the main player.

Hope this is understandable.

Okay, I think my entry would not qualify with this understanding, but would it work with any of these below?

Set-Up:

Item A- You (The Player)
Item B- Light (You Control)
Item C- A.I. (You Can't Control)

1. A moves B with the right stick and C is able to follow B.
2. A can press R1 and a speech bubble tells B to input a command for C allowing C to grab objects.(B and C interact not A and C)

Most of my other examples would involve the same style of Example 2 where A interacts a command with B and B then interacts the same command to C... So, does that work or am I out of luck?

Your idea lacks common sense. If you want a vita contest, make one yourself, and watch no one enter. And no, it isn't the only reason. In fact, that's not even a reason. There's something called "publishing a level".

You've followed the rules correctly. The contest rules states that it MUST contain Artificial Intelligence, which you've completed. Adding additional bots/items is your choice :)

Be advised: The rules also states that the player shall not be able to complete the level without the A.I. Remember: Co-operation

Hey, I'm not usually one to rave about my own work but I'm feeling pretty good about this comp so far. Got me a level at about half a thermo, pretty confident the AI meets the criteria, nice visuals, all good.

It would have been cool to blog about this from the start - I'm always happy to explain how I've made stuff - perhaps I'll do something at the end to explain how the magic works.

In a nutshell, I have a drone which follows the player, occasionally activating switches for them. Toying with the idea of introducing enemies too, we'll see.

How are others going? Happy creating!

very colurful i love it, i expected this, considering all the great creators who have taken interest so far. much love to the creators who can pull off that style.

a little insight from where my head is at: heavily considering a different direction. buddy has a great storyline to fit into and just give him my work, or just go with what i have and make a psychological thriller level :D don't see to many of those in lbp. currently torn on the method of AI execution. been bouncing back and forth on 4 ideas, trying to see which 1 is most fluid (gameplay flow), player friendly ( less controller heavy while still relying on player feedback and such without being cumbersome), level friendly (navigates environment and perform functions while maintaining a natural state within the environment, dont want movements/exucution of work to look unnatural or forced), and balance (100% AI vs 100% Controlled vs 100% Command Based)

well good luck every1

You can certainly have a cutscene intro at the start of your level but as level links aren't allowed, you can't have a cinematic intro in one level and then have the gameplay in a sublevel. It all has to be done using one thermo only.

a quick question, where the rules state you can't finish the level without your buddy does this mean I can't kill of the buddy? or more like, I can't kill of the buddy until after the gameplay is over? I had an idea for a boss fight where the buddy would have already died is all.

You could kill your "buddy" off before the end of the level but not too far from the end as it's meant to be a co-op level.

You can have more than one buddy but remember at least one of them has to have a character/back story etc.

As to the final question, lol, you could do that as long as the attempts to kill you somehow help you get through the level. Isn't there a very old film which had that as a storyline? I can't think what it was...that's gonna bug me now, lol! ;)

may the creator create say 5 levels, separates them by level links and then only submits the 3rd one for actual judging (regardless if its a sub level or not)?

I.e someone makes a small intro with menu that is level linked to a sublevel in which we submit to the judges that the sub linked level is the level we wish to be judged, and the menu/intro is just arbitrary to the level to be judged.

Great you have these options, L-I-M-I, I've gone for the "level friendly (navigates environment and perform functions while maintaining a natural state within the environment, dont want movements/exucution of work to look unnatural or forced)" option.

My buddy follows the player while maintaining a discrete distance. It stops at dangerous or difficult sections and asks the player for help. It can also detect when the player can't get to a switch or pass through a dangerous area and takes the initiative to go there itself. There are sections where you have to carry the buddy or throw it around too.

I've got the player hidden inside a sackbot with permanent grabinators on for this. If either the sackbot or buddy die, the other dies too (explained in the backstory) and they spawn together from a common point. Threw in a suicide reset option too if it all goes badly.

Just for creators into logic: I've tried to set up wireless sections where the buddy passes through a tagged hologram section which changes its behaviour so it homes in on a switch or location. Once there and the mechanism is activated there is a feedback mechanism to reset this behaviour and default to the "follow player" instruction. The trick is to make these either reset or remain in the "on" position as needed if there is an unexpected death or accident.

Loving the challenge here! BTW, I played Obscurity [ Part I.I ] by xSLEVENx last night http://lbp.me/v/yfh2ms for some inspiration. The drone in that game only picks the player up in the intro and has minor roles activating scenery changes. It looks really good with a lot of lighting effects but the drone is not as "present" as the one I'm working on.

You can create a separate intro level (which the judges wouldn't play) but the actual entry must not be a sublevel to that intro. If the judges have to play the intro to get to the entry itself they won't be able to unsee what they've seen and that wouldn't be fair to those contestants who had put everything in one level. If you wanted to create a hub which was just a hub with no cutscenes or gameplay, only links to the different levels in the series, then that might be different. That way the judges would be able to get to the actual entry without seeing any separate intro or additional gameplay. If you want to do that, I can check with the other judges whether they'd be OK with it.

There's no reason the buddy couldn't be a mouse. As you can see from this post (http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?80421-LBPC-Contest-11-Buddy-Building&p=1112761&viewfull=1#post1112761), the important thing is that the buddy is PS3 (and not player) controlled. I read through all the comments before and it sounds like It is allowed. The right anologue stick moves your cursor/crosshair, which the mouse follows. When hovering over certain objects, you can press different buttons or d-pad buttons to perform an action, the actions available depend on items you've previously picked up. I don't however, have enough faith in myself to trust that I can finish it in time... Or at all.

I wasn't referring to entering contests. The reason I bought a vita is so I could still take a small part in the community by working on small yet long project levels while on vacation. I don't play my vita unless traveling or vacationing, making it easier to make levels with more breaks. A lot of the time I quit a project because I'll get bored by working to fast. The reason I bought a vita is to still play and have fun. For me, entering contests is an part of that.

Just an update for everyone.

I've got about three pieces of thermo left. I have no proper intro or finish yet (eek!) so will probably develop a cutscene to be emitted and destroyed at the start. I'll soon capture all the moving scenery in emitters to be released when the player starts the game (that will lower the thermo) and set up areas to disappear once the player has traversed them. This should all help with lag and allow me some more thermo to finish.

At one point I have nearly 100 particles being emitted together which will significantly raise the processing requirements so I'll have to make sure some stuff has been destroyed before that.

I have one problematic section which I need to reconstruct the logic for - the drone should head toward a switch when thrown up on a ledge then return to the player. Instead, it just seems to lose all motive power and stops registering the player or the switch - a game killer. This works everywhere else but here so I'll start fresh and get it right.

I see on lbp.me there are 9 locked levels out there at the moment and one unlocked one (http://lbp.me/search?q=lbpc11) so it looks like people are getting into their testing phases.

Happy creating!

I'll never make it in time... considering I haven't started anything yet. :(

Well this thread is a bit dry on details so here are some moar pics on my level so far:

A cop-op bit (buddy not shown):
http://id.lbp.me/img/ft/0dd92cad513c4c00bf16069f0a0c4c08d695aee5.jpg

Another co-op bit that was being really inconsistent - half the time the drone would work and then it wouldn't. I rebuilt the logic on this bit today, hopefully it is now failsafe:

Another spawn point, this one has not been activated yet and is waiting for a player to wander beneath:

More from me - the aratiatia thread :)

I'm flying to the South Island tomorrow for four days so no creating or updating my level. Sad face.

My issue is I've got a small group of PSN friends who play LBP and they all live in significantly different time zones (we're currently +11 hours GMT in New Zealand) and I really need some testing done.

If I publish my locked competition level and make a key available in a lockbox level I can message people with the lockbox code if they are keen to test my level, PROVIDING they give me feedback.

I can't act on feedback until Sunday night local time (for most northern hemispshere people that's sometime your Saturday). With only ten days to go that gives me five days to make improvements (eek!). I also can't read or respond to comments in-game or via PSN - this forum or PM's will be the only way. You could also get in touch via twitter: @aratiatia808

Could you please let me know if you are interested? I'm happy to return the feedback on your level if it helps :)

Many thanks, Stephen.

Wow, they look cool! What costume pieces are you using for this? It looks like DLC of some sort :)

I've got about three pieces of thermo left. My level is running at around 5 minutes I think, but then I know what to do so other players make take longer. Can't do any work on the level for a few days so still plotting some changes. Will be back into it on Sunday night. I have yet to make the start and end sequences so hopfeully I'm on track to publish unlocked inside the due dates.

The protagonists are using DLCs like: KILLZONE2 Minipack, Infamous Costume, and a other DLC that I forgot the name xDD
Well, my level have about 12 minutes of adventure (if you play it correctly hehe) but Its because that some parts have cut scenes, well this is it, I dont speak english very well, I hope you understand me, and the problem is that in my level I used the headset to make the voices and I don't know if the pronunciation and the text is correct haha :(

If someone helps you with your level do you get disqualified. Ive singely created so far and the only thing left is the logic for my sackbot. Logic is not really my strongpoint especially with sackbots. Anyway if someone was to help me with the logic would it count as cheating? I will probably still do it by myself anyway but im just wondering? Thanks

Escort Muertos der Soulstealer to Misery Marsh so he can fulfill his destiny: to live out the rest of his life as an invalid. Featuring such memorable characters as Mammy's Urn, the Bringer of Famine, and Miserable Marsha. This level will redefine what the word intelligence means.

(This is blatantly not serious. It is also mostly appropriate. Check it out and have a laugh.)

LMAO! Always good for a laugh. You could be a valuable asset on the contest crew. You could fill up those holes that the rules leave behind.
I wanted to build a level for this one where the "A.I." was some sort of creature living in your inner ear and would tell you what to do and what not to do. It could also leave your ear and "possess" certain mechanical objects to aid you in your escape from the asylum. Yes, you're insane. But, lack of skills and time prevented me from making it. I do have another idea about a possessed and deranged radio flyer though.

This is probably the last thing I post before posting my level link. My thermo is 3 quarters full and I still need to add a film in. If I publish a film sepertaley to the level and then publish the film and put a level link to my level is this not allowed? Would I have to make the film in the same create mode as the level? Because I read the rules but i dont really understand it. Thanks

I've just found out about this contest today, but I'm not giving up! I'm going to work as fast and efficient as possible on my level. Two questions: 1. Can the "buddy" be like a platform that can help the player cross obstacles and the player has to protect the AI? 2. Can multiple AIs battle enemies and destroy objects that only they can destroy and the same goes for the player?

Question 1:
As long as the A.I. is not player controlled, and you will not be able to complete the level, without help from the A.I. everything should be fine! :)

Question 2:
If you mean like the story level: Where In The World Is Avalon Centrifuge? where the sackbots are destroying enemies with their creatinators, then yes. That is allowed! :)

I've had a chance to see what players have thought of my level and have made some tweaks. I added three cutscenes to illustrate to the player some particular changes in the level and a short intro/end scene too. I had to add more drone speak to a section that some players weren't finding obvious.

RtooDee2 has added my level to a list he's made which is cool. I've played a few other entries and they are looking good!

Ok, well consider this a place holder answer until the crew discusses it but I'll give some basic feed back now anyway.

Keep trying up until the deadline, this error comes and goes when the lbp servers are or your internet service provider is busy. It might naturally sort itself out later but you need to keep trying.

If you do publish and you discover after the deadline that the level has a bad bug then you need to ask us if you can change it first. Most times we'll let you but we need to be asked first.

If you can't publish before the deadline... well that is the tricky bit but since you have told us in plenty of time we can discuss it and try to come up with a solution, but hopefully you'll manage to publish it and that'll not need to happen.

I have my entry completed. It took some time to decide and EVEN longer to build this comprehensive level. In my level "Little Angel" you are guided by a guardian angel named Heather and you work together to save the one she cares for, a girl named Karen. This concept is actually part of a amateur manga I am composing in my free time and fits perfectly into the theme of this level building contest. Level features included a full co-op between the lead player and the npc character, over 40 collectible stickers in addition to bonus prize stickers featuring concept art for this story, several obstacles to overcome, brief cut-scenes, and a 2-phase boss battle. It's really quite epic!

To post a link, go to www.lbp.me and sign in. Then you can find your level [and many other features, including what levels your friends are playing, which levels are popular, etc.] When you find your level, copy the URL/website from the address bar, and paste it here. That way judges can easily Queve your level (which is another great feature of lbp.me) and the next time they log in the level will be waiting for them.

My level is finished and it was quick, but it is beatable the way it is. Just get the weapon, attack the enemies, then jump on the monster to beat the level. I don't know how to post a link, but it is the only level on my planet. The level is called LBPC11 The Boy and The Monster.

We have many available member who can tell you how, but the site itself is able to tell you all you need to know! Anyways, for those who need the link to his level here it is: The Boy and The Monster (http://lbp.me/v/mw04d7)

Unfortunately I was unable to get my finished level published... Fortunately I backed up my level earlier on, so I was able to go back to it and recreate/finish what I had left to do. I made the level very similar to the one that didn't work, so I have no idea why one worked and the other didn't... anyway, better late than never... here's my level!!

I hope you are all putting the finishing touches to your levels, if you haven't already published. You now only have a few hours left to get your levels in. Good luck to everyone! :)

Not sure what you mean. Let's just make sure of a few things.

You must sign in using your PlayStation Network Username (NOT TO BE CONFUSED WITH YOUR SCREENNAME, typically the e-mail associated with your account) and password. For example my screenname is WyomingMyst on PSN that is what you and everyone else would see if they were playing a game with me, but my username is not seen by others.

If you forgot your password you can reset it by signing onto your PlayStation 3 or PS Vita system and accessing your Account Management from there.

If you have further troubles signing onto an official PlayStation site like lbp.me, go to https://support.us.playstation.com/app/contact_options for further assistance.

My job took all my time this month, but I really wanted to do something for the contest, so I made a demo within the last 3 days...

So far there are 20 levels online, however it appears 4 of them are locked for no public access, hope they pull the lock in the next few minutes. Many are very impressive so far. Now if you excuse me I gotta pre-heat my oven and start mixing some mayo and pickle relish...

Finally! After weeks of work it is done! I present my entry to you! I think it could be better and their may be some bugs in it, but as of now it is finished and I'm pretty satisfied with the result! :) Anyways, I would have appreciated more time and I would have published earlier, but my internet connection was running very slow and I attempted several time, each at many minutes long, before I got it published exactly how I wanted it to be here in the end.

And my clock just struck midnight... not really it's 8pm here. However I do believe time is now up. I hope I did good enough, because there was some serious competition to work with... best wishes to everyone else as well. Now to eat some fish sticks and mac & cheese while watching the last ten episodes of Star Trek Deep Space Nine.

Ok, as you have all noticed time is up... any future bug fixes must be approved by us before you publish them or you risk being disqualified.

Thank you for entering, hope you had fun building and we'll try to get the results to you as soon as possible.

I am thinking I should not have so many fish sticks the night of the deadline... I am also thinking eating beans two days in a row afterward was also a bad idea. As for the contest, I just hope results will be online soon, or at the very least the judging phase will be over soon, I have a few more non-essential tweaks I want to work in.

Good luck to anyone who entered this, it was a tricky theme (I've done a similar thing in one of mine and had many a head-scratching moment in create), so if you managed to get a level in on time and working, you did good! Played a few, and they've all been interesting in their own way.

Yes, the deadline has passed.

In the meantime you should go make a welcome post on the introduce yourself board, have a glance at the site rules and then generally get stuck into the site.

They'll be plenty of chances to enter contests later, either hosted by us or through other sites who advertise here.

They all have chances. Good luck to everyone who entered it :)

Sorry, the contest has finished and we're just finishing up judging.

I had requested to fix my level for a few minor glitches and I have been unable to have access to my PS3 since I got approval, but I'll be able to have it finished very soon. This was just a reminder so that the Contest Crew could know that I had yet to republish after getting approval!

Do all seven members judge each eligible level? Just curious.

shropshirelass
08-08-2013, 11:12 AM
No, we have two rounds of judging. Some of the judges play all the levels and come up with a short list of finalists. Then all the judges (including any judges from outside the Crew) play all of the levels on that list. In this contest, each level will have been played by at least 4 of the judges.

We are nearly finished with the judging and voting so the results should be out "soon". ;)

I see three of the four members of the contest crew (consider that their PSN display names are not the same as that of their LBPCentral.com forum usernames). Also consider, she said there may be judges that are not part of the regular contest crew.
