Update: #13:

EDIT: LittleBigPlanet Community Manager StevenI has informed us more about creating level trailers!

Share Factory was used but its usage is completely optional.

You can either...

- Directly attach a Share video clip of up to 30 seconds to your level.

- Take a longer clip or collection of clips to Share Factory and splice them together to make your very own awesome 30 second trailer for your level that folks can watch in-game before playing your level.

General gameplay streaming and video uploads to YouTube do not have this 30 second time-limit.

A wonderful teaser on twitter (https://twitter.com/StevenIsbell/status/527076220266348544)shows us a glimpse of custom level trailers in the pod menu!

LitteBigPlanet 3 (http://littlebigplanet.playstation.com/news/announcing-littlebigplanet-3-for-ps4)is another installment in the LittleBigPlanet franchise that is heading to Playstation 4 and PlayStation 3 this November! In development by Sumo Digital ltd, XDev Europe, and the rest of the crew (the studios are named in the beginning of LBP2), the latest adventure for Sackboy was first revealed at Sony's Press Conference at E3 2014 on June 9th!

LittleBigPlanet 3 E3 2014 Demo

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ymCDdrMKPrY

LittleBigPlanet 3, narrated by Stephen Fry (http://www.gamespot.com/articles/e3-2014-stephen-fry-confirmed-to-be-voice-acting-in-littlebigplanet-3/1100-6420344/), introduces a whole new way of play create and sharing ranging from adding the number of layers you can travel in, super-cool gadgets and tools, less floaty physics, and giving beginners an easy way to make some of the most imaginable and creative levels out there, along with the advanced creators of the series past (thanks to interactive tutorials (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vB5WHhI69qA)) -all in 1080p and 30FPS!

Sackboy and His Heroic Friends!

Sackboy makes a return to the imagisphere with the welcoming of three new well-stitched, playable sack characters exploring the planet Bunkum to fight the villain Newton (http://www.gamereactor.dk/media/37/20screenshotslittle_1183754.png) with antics better than ever!

OddSock

Oddsock, is one adorable shaped sock who moves about using four legs like a pet dog. The adorable smile on his face hides more than just an adorable feeling as this awesome, ride-able creature can bounce up and over walls as well as travel at a quick speed which can power things up!

Toggle (Big and Small)

Any size is just as good as anything else, and Toggle is the best way to show-off that any size matters! With this awesome fellow, you can toggle between small toggle who is a light-weight creature that can also walk on waterand big toggle who is a heavy-weight, can move heavy objects out of the way, and will send you to the bottom of the water! Toggle is such an awesome word, as its meaning can have a powerful tune behind it, and that neat gimmick is that it can toggle between any other character while playing a level including becoming invisible!

Swoop

What's that in the air, is it a bird? Is it a plane? Oh wait, its actually a bird! A fellow bird named Swoop that feels the air while it glides around to unreachable places helping to grasp those hard-obtaining prize bubbles and can carry other players up in the air majestically to land them somewhere else!

Sackboy

Of course, no game will be a LittleBigPlanet game with the one and only, Sackboy! Sackboy is back once again and with some neat abilities! Sackboy will be climbing his way on walls which you can see in the footage above, as well as having many power-ups to his grasp!

What's really cool is that a creator can choose which characters they want to have in their own level, whether it can be all of them or just only one of them! All of these characters are also playable and are customization-friendly as well!

The Magic of Layers!

As introduced in the beginning of the 3d demo. Sackboy can now interchange more smoothly between layers with the addition of "creative layers for increased depth in the game world so Sackboy and friends can now jump in and out of the screen right before your eyes, climb up stairs, skate down slides and zip-line on a puffy sponge (http://littlebigplanet.playstation.com/news/announcing-littlebigplanet-3-for-ps4)"!

http://www.gamereactor.dk/media/37/20screenshotslittle_1183734.png

These additional layers (which makes it 16!) (http://www.polygon.com/a/e3-2014/littlebigplanet-3) wields the player unimaginable amount of control as going out out in the far or close to the near will allow creativity to form very 3D-esque creations! There are also layer specific bounce pads that bounce you to a certain layer and certain portals to teleport you! Not to mention the power of sliding to get to one layer to another in a wonderful use of Z axis capability which can bring a true platforming experience!

Incredible Power-Ups!

If there has to be a time where LittleBigPlanet has to shine, it would have to be the additions of the power-ups! Now, what this a real deal is that we can now make our own power-ups thanks to one of the tools, the Blaster Handle! (http://youtu.be/qCiHUgyyOJ8)!

Let it sink in there for second.

And another.

Awesome! How it works is that you can stick a 3D mesh onto's sackboy's hand (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vB5WHhI69qA) and mess around with it by adding logic to it!

Now here is the best part. Sackboy can have more than one power-up at a time! You may ask how is this possible? Thank the wonderful and handy feature of the sack-pocket (http://youtu.be/qCiHUgyyOJ8)! Now this useful piece acts like an inventory where you can store power-ups! So if you want to make an RPG per say, the player will now have more awesome abilties than ever, and you, the creator, can make those powers!

Other than creating your own power-ups, there are a ton of ones already available to use such as the Pumpinator which blasts a strong gust of wind to move things and can also suck in almost anything that comes in its path! A couple more that was in the trailer was a tennis racket (my guess is custom made), a paint brush, and a torch!

Here is a list of power-ups: (sources included)

PlayStation 4 - The Creative Console

Many of us are curious whether the PlayStation 4 version is just a port from the Playstation 3 version or if its a true-standalone on it's own using the console's features to it's max. The team is putting all of their effort (https://twitter.com/StevenIsbell/status/476408479025209344), which means people will not have to worry much whether if it is just a mere port or not.

Some neat stuff LittleBigPlanet 3 can do with the PlayStation 4 is of course using the magic of the DualShock 4 controller! The touch pad will be heavily used especially in create mode where creating will be easier and faster (http://youtu.be/qCiHUgyyOJ8)! Another neat bit they mentioned is that they are planning very cool use of the "share" feature (http://youtu.be/qCiHUgyyOJ8) the Playstation 4 offers including live streaming and uploading videos and whatnot! It's a sign that Playstation 4's features are being used and we will a lot more in the weeks to come.

The Community!

https://pbs.twimg.com/media/Bu2qiPICYAAXo2l.png:large

The Stats!

The LittleBigPlanet community over the past 5 years has grown and creations have emerged showing reality our dreams becoming hard-proof possible. Over 30 million hours (http://youtu.be/qCiHUgyyOJ8) of create time was spent just in LittleBigPlanet 2 as well as approximately 8.7 million levels sitting on the communitys' earths!

Compatibility!

Now LittleBigPlanet 3 will be backwards compatible (https://twitter.com/StevenIsbell/status/476357654261301249)and you will be able to play levels from the first and second LittleBigPlanet game in LittleBigPlanet 3! These levels are looking better than ever on the Playstation 4 with increased resolution and still look pretty nifty on the Playstation 3! The team picks section will look strong and more vibrant as all games will share the same server (https://twitter.com/StevenIsbell/status/476394666590732288) meaning a wonderful mix of developer-favorite levels!

However, you can not use the new characters in the old levels (http://youtu.be/wKzzx6leB3U), but this does assure the logic will be somewhat similar and who knows about the levels with the 3D layer glitch already, they could transfer over with the glitch in tact!

The Beta

An awesome bond, that is also a part of holding the community together is experience the game together and giving feedback - that's where the beta comes in! Yes, there will be a beta (https://twitter.com/StevenIsbell/status/476356301891829760) and there will be more details coming about that soon.

Everything here was pure what-we-know as facts, yet there is so much more speculation revealing so much more after some keen investigating! If there is anything missed that has been mentioned with a credible source, let me know! This article will be updated as we get more info but for now enjoy!. :)

Update (7/24/14): Beta codes will be sent to a small selected group from the LBP Community over the next couple weeks. If you receive a message, you have a choice of getting the code for the PS3 or the PS4 and will be able to play when the beta starts in august! :)

Thanks hyper. Someone might complain and try to merge this thread, but I quite like how the layout is on this post. :)

I'm not sure if you wanted to add a tidbit somewhere (or if I just didn't see it) but in one of the interviews the developer said we can create our own decorations. I'm assuming this will be like the 2D sticker paint tool but more... 3D. I'm just hypothesising on that part though, I do know he said its a new feature.

Thinking to add the info of blueprints as well. As shown as game play where you get to put controls and make your own vehicle. (Karting substitute?) Might wait until later for that. But wow thanks all for your input, I thought I designed it a bit weird haha!

I know for sure it was the PlayStation live stream interview, which is ironically the only one I can't find. :)

Can find the Gamespot and IGN ones easily... We might have to wait until they post the recordings.

I swear to god LBP just keeps getting better and better. This sequel looks absolutely gorgeous if the main gameplay looks fantastic, I simply can't wait to get a glimpse of the create mode. Now I'm hoping that I could pull off all the things I couldn't do in LBP2 in 3 =D.

This is Awesome! Though I am a little worried about it being on PS3 and PS4. Will this hold back the PS4s possible thermo limits because of the PS3 version?

Thanks guys im heading in to post an update! Also got some news from steven:

If you play LittleBigPlanet 3 on the PS3, you will be able to play levels that are created on PlayStation 4. (And vice-versa, of course.)

However the PS3 versions of the levels won't take advantage of the fact that LBP3 on PS4 can run at 1080P HD or have the increased texture resolutions that LittleBigPlanet 3 on PlayStation 4 will have.

@yogurt yes its there for both ps3 and ps4. :)

EDIT: LBPFan I think he dodged the question and was referring to the touch stuff like in the vita. I could be wrong though!

I was just googling "Little big planet 3" as i have been doing for months now, expecting no news as usual. Surprise! There were recent news of LBP3 on PS4, which I have been hoping for a long while. I was so ecstatic, everyone else was wondering why I yelled OMG in the bathroom at 12 AM.
It's a lot like I imagined it to be, specially concerning the touchpad in create mode, though I think that full 3D would make it possible to create entire "games" as opposed to very sophisticated levels. For instance, I've always wanted to make an open world exploration game/level.

You might as well add Invisibility too (if you haven't already). In the polygon interview he mentions you can toggle between big toggle and invisible toggle, so I'm assuming invisibility is now a feature that can be added to all the characters.

I been watching presentation again and i notice few things that people may miss

Sackpocket allows you to make sackboy spawn with powerup
http://i.gyazo.com/108c5fb589fd52fc1899a802c10715bb.gif

This seams to look like you have more sets of animations you can use in cinematic:
http://gyazo.com/c1ff602a1f2e3757cd9c8eb72415444b.gif

Now this one interesting.... you can rotate character in diffrent angle so you can make him look somewhere in background or diffrent angle:
http://i.gyazo.com/a929858db8d469827d080f9880753a59.gif
You can also see diffrent sackboy animation on him puting his hand on chin like thinking :)

Also you seem o able to do that during gameoplay as you can see on tennis level, also look at crowd + i captured mounted oddsock :p

Right, I actually didn't realize this until I saw this screenshot from GamrReview's preview:

http://www.gamrreview.com/media/images/littlebigplanet-3-e3-2014-preview-2.jpg

It looks like a cut-scene, though. But the tennis game is definitely gameplay. Also, GamrReview pointed out something interesting in their preview (http://www.gamrreview.com/preview/91608/littlebigplanet-3-toggles-the-mind):

My favorite moments were when Toggle interacted with water. When Toggle is large he sinks like a rock to the bottom of any body of water, while small Toggle bounces on the top of water. For those not keeping track at home, that means that Toggle's increase in mass must be greater than his change of volume upon toggling in order for this density to shift from much less than 1 g/ml to much greater than 1 g/ml. Science! If you don't care about all that, the important thing is that you can switch between these two forms to pop yourself out of the water like a dolphin.

All this sounds pretty cool! :)

It does not need to, as we confirmed that you can rotate characters , so you can do kind of 360 camera illusion.... but who knows :p We know that 360 camera didn't perform well on PS3 thru it would do better if they added rendering distance limit

That is my dream come true. I also think it'd be cool to see a memorize setting that allows you to set which player it recalls data from. That way, you could have two players make their own character in a single player stpryline level, and then have them able to fight their characters in another.

No info given yet but I have a guess for hook hat. The rails you see Sackboy ride in on in the trailer while grabbing the sponge is where my guess comes in. Hook hat could be a hat Sackboy wears so he can ride these rails but keep his hands free. So ride the rails while using another power up for example. A guess for the blink ball would be the ability to move a ball/object into the layers smoothly. Like the tennis game we see in the trailer. These are just guesses and no official resource has been given.

Handy for Bioshock Infinite levels ...

EDIT:

Here's something new:

There are a bunch of elements that contributed to that feel of floatiness. The fact that Sackboy's jump is affected by physics is never going to change, so if you are standing on an angled platform you are still going to jump at a slight angle because the jump takes that into consideration.

We made Sackboy move just a touch quicker now and he jumps just slightly higher which we found helps players from getting "caught" on corners when jumping up platforms or blocks. Additionally, we tweaked his air steering to add more control. To me one of the most important things we changed was the way he stops after a jump. We reduced the amount of momentum he retains after landing a jump which means that players are punished less for not landing in the exact right spot on smaller platforms.

They did mention 3D mesh creation for the custom power-up creator, so I think they may have a new tool that allows you to create those meshes for various different things, such as power-ups, decorations, objects, etc.

That is my dream come true. I also think it'd be cool to see a memorize setting that allows you to set which player it recalls data from. That way, you could have two players make their own character in a single player storyline level, and then have them able to fight their characters in another.

I don't see why they can't have 60FPS on PS3... the PS3 is a very powerful system, I mean, if a DS can fit an entire RPG with tons of content, don't see why we can't fit LBP3 with HD graphics on the PS3 version...

How will it effect logic, exactly?

It is kinda hard to explain, it affects logic because the game will run "slower". A fairly simple way of explaining it is: If you put, let's say, a NOT gate (I believe that's the one) wired onto itself and a counter, it will transmit "data", or pulses, at the speed of 30 franes per second, which is the speed LBP runs by. If the game ran at 60 fps, you could transmit that data twice as fast. Hope that made a little sense. Most of the creators make no real use of such information on their logic but some people do, and I'm sure some of them would kill for the game to run at 60 fps 8)

amiel445566

If there was a super complex level on the PS4, then the PS3 could not handle it, so it had to get dumbed down for the thermo

And if the clock was sped up to 60fps, then the PS3 could not handle that either, or if it was 60 on PS4 but 30 on PS3 it might mess up logic

The only work around is to lower both systems

What could work is having a "PS4 ONLY" setting for levels for higher thermo and detail, it would solve everything, even thought PS3 players would not be able to play some levels

Hope I helped some :)

unless they plan on releasing LBP5 within a much shorter window than we've seen with releases so far, i would rather LBP3 wasn't cross gen. I was really hoping to see them try to pull as much out of this as possible, taking us to places that the PS3 just wouldn't be able to handle. Specifically, i was hoping for greater thermo flexibility which they have already pretty much confirmed is still going to be limited to what the PS3 can handle. This does not please me in the slightest; not even the teensiest eensiest bit. don't get me wrong, i am still excited for the game. There are plenty of new features that open up countless new possibilities, and we haven't even seen most of the creation changes yet, but we can also only imagine what else we would be getting if they weren't developing with one arm tied behind their back.

I actually really enjoy watching the more negative reviews of demos and trailers, if not just for the simple fact that they're blinking funny. The first guy seemed so bogged down by the idea that MM were meant to be making LBP (get with the news, guy) that he couldnt conceive the notion of someone else making it. Totally agree with you gribble about the second guy too - apart from the fact that it was a demo level, the part where he talked about having to wait for people to do what they gotta do... all I could think was "Well then, get better at the game then mate!"

Still good to see all sides to the hype train though I reckon :)

When I watch the videos all I think about is how uninformed these people are

1st guy is just... he overlooked the fact that the game can be good WITHOUT MM

and the 2nd guy... he just doesn't understand the player mechanics, and how they will be implemented in levels

the game is good, and the only think stopping the hype is misunderstandings :)

LBP 1 wasn't on the PS2 because the leap between PS2 and PS3 was huge.
The leap between PS3 to PS4 doesn't even come close to the graphical leap of the last generations and, let's be honest, LPB 3 looks like a port of LBP 2 with new features added.

I think this is a better solution because I think that a PS3 version could still benefit some people.
I think that maybe the creators should be able to restrict what platform their levels can be played on. For example, if the creator goes over the limit, a warning should appear that says something like "Warning: You have gone over the limit. If you continue to go over the limit, the level will only be playable on Sony Playstation 4 systems. Would you like to continue? (Yay!) (Nay!)"

This would be great. you could even publish both versions if you wanted.

**WARNING!** Long Post Incoming **WARNING!**

In regards to LB3 being cross-gen
I think we're undervaluing the new dev's here. I think this was a tactical move because the PS4 is new. Because it's new, the developer's won't be capable of utilizing the system yet as they're still 'getting used to the dev kit'. It'll take a couple of years for the next-gen to really flourish so having a less intense version now is a sensible idea. Look at how different 2008 PS3 games are compared to 2011 PS3 games. Saying that, I do think it could have been a system seller, which would speed up the transition between current-gen and next-gen.

Cross-gen in terms of game-play
I do think they will allow the PS4 version to excel in terms of power and game-play. The controls between the two versions will be different, they said they were incorporating the touch-pad (and I think they also mentioned the other new buttons). IF the touch-pad isn't limited to creation and can be used in game-play, I have high hopes for the PS4 version. In the same way that the Move or Cross-controller packs have features that can only be used with these devices, I do see the option for PS4-only levels, which would have larger thermometers, or at the very least, PS4 reccomended levels that utilize the system even if it's not performance orientated.

I'd also say it's highly unlikely that the backwards compatibility will allow PS4 players to play with PS3 players.

Cross-gen in regards to money
I already said I think LBP3 could have been (and still will be to a lesser extent) a system-seller. I don't think money is a limitation for most people. A new PS3 super-slim is around £210 (yes, I'm using GBP) as of now whilst a brand new PS4 can be bought for £300-£350, you can buy a pre-owned PS4 for £260. Although, you need to add an extra £50 for the game. I payed £250 for my PS3 when I was 12. I put £150 towards it and got the rest as an early xmas present (not just from my parents). I used to sell sweets at school, which is funny to hear but I could make £5-10 profit in one lunch hour. If my best friend hadn't also been selling right next to me, I could have been making upwards of £1k a year. Most kids could get a PS4 as a joint Christmas/Birthday present. And most older teenagers/adults can save up £350 ready for launch, if they really wanted to. I don't have a job yet but I'm going to start applying very soon, I just need to write a CV first.

The lack of news is very annoying for someone like me. Not even news per-se, but a bit of clarity would be nice. I haven't seen any official word on whether LBP HUB is still being released, I know it was in closed-beta stage a couple months back but we've received almost no word since the announcement last year. Still, LBP3 news would come as a blessing, they need to promote the hell out of it before launch to break the curse of it's predecessors' low sales figures.

Adding in the information of Popit Puzzles in Single Player Campaign!

EDIT: Ignore where the document says 6 layers.. there are 16 layers! And there is more than 16 tools (there is over 60!). :P

Hey Folks!

I just want to quickly jump in and say that there's been a little bit of a mix-up in the information in that article, so I just want to set a couple of things straight for everyone. :)

We have already said that there's 16 layers available in LittleBigPlanet 3 and I can assure you that we have a lot more than just 16 new create tools coming in the new game... ;)

As for the Popit Puzzles themselves... I can tell you that some eagle-eyed folks among you have already spotted a primary aspect of them in our previously released trailer/screenshots and they may be unaware that they did...
But that's all I'm saying for now. ;)

We will have more news on all the snazzy new tools and Popit Puzzles later on!
November is fast-approaching and we're still working hard to get everything polished and finalised for you folks to create with! Will share more when we're ready, I promise! :)

My two cents about cross-gen: I doubt the thermometer is going to be that big of a problem right now. If you look at the leap from LBP1 to LBP2 it felt like the thermometer had increased dramatically and that was on the same system. Years have passed and people are finding new ways to push the ps3 so I wouldn't worry too much about that. ALSO, this is the same team that did vita and one thing that the vita version did so much better than LBP2 was optimization tools. No one can argue that the vita tools weren't enough to fit levels into the thermometer, so with that being on ps3 (plus probably more) we should see a slower filling thermometer.
Another thing is that the thermometer probably wouldn't have increased all that much on PS4 anyways because it's relatively new and new consoles never have games that push it early on. It would have felt basically the same as LBP2 with probably more bugs.

It would be a wastefulness, in that case (if I undertsand what you mean) :(
Watching the gameplay on E3 stage, I've had a doubt: considering that now Oddsock can jump from a wall to another wall, will DC Pack become a little useless? A great pro of that pack is the "wall-jumping", but now?

yugnar

Odd sock seems to be able to jump in certain materials only, kind of like the DC material. I bet that material will still be there compatible for Sackboy :)

Well, if you can play LBP2 levels on LBP3, that means levels with wall jumping will be there. :)

Also, addressing the maintainment of 30FPS for both the PS3 and the PS4 versions for compatibility reasons:

LittleBigPlanet is still LittleBigPlanet. At the end of the day, its all about the creativity. Now with Play.Create.Share, sharing and playing is taking it further with PS3 and PS4 compatibility. Not to mention creating just got a whole a lot better as well. :)

Overall, things are better! It may not be the best, but if you think about it, achieving the best and meeting every single person's demands is basically impossible. :)

I think people underestimate the PS3. People say "the PS4 can handle so much better" Sure, it can handle graphics better, but not by much. I mean, when looking at multiple PS3/PS4 graphic comparisons, the only difference I can see is the backgrounds... when have you ever cared that the sun is shining better, or the water looks smoother? Also, 30FPS isn't that great for both systems, just saying. PS3 can handle around 40-60FPS.

People need to stop worrying, a sacrifice of some graphical limitations won't hurt, and the PS3 is underestimated in so many ways because nobody uses that extra space on that disk of theirs to it's full extent.

I've been thinking about something the developers have said. They mentioned some levels are designed to get people into create, and we saw one example of someone using a corner editor to make a ramp, which was in blue and of a completely different material to the rest of the level. I'm assuming that we wouldn't be able to use that corner editor on anything put that blue material and that suggests to me that we'll be able to do the same in create. I reckon we'll be able to make levels that require us to use some of the create tools to navigate through it. I can't remember which video it was (I think it was one of the promo vids) so if anyone knows which it is, could you possibly post it so that people can see what I mean.

I think he means more along the lines of a 'water material' that's heavily requested.

More animations have been added for use on sackbots/characters (Since you can place logic, etc. on characters now), including a swimming animation. I do not think it is likely that we'll see a specific water material that you can actually swim in but it is likely that there will be some form of water material (I guess it would work like the DC Comics Pack Lava - you can change layer ramps to look like water so this is likely). From there on it's just a matter of using logic to trigger the swimming animation and make the character "swim".

Yeah, just a material not a new feature; unless I'm missing something about this. Very similar to the lava material from the DC level pack. From that tweet (https://twitter.com/itsChimpanzee/status/510850602197598208) about adding a character tweaker, sounds like it's just a regular animated material without any physical features (and maybe sound, it think I heard water splash).

I'm still confused why people are thinking the "localized water" is a thing. It's not.

It's literally just an animated material that has be dephyscialized. We've seen this in LBP Vita. What ever animations there are to make Sackboy look like he is swimming is obviously new LBP3 logic. But no localized water. Think of the Lava material that was included in the DC level kit.

Moley even says that (https://twitter.com/Sackinima/status/511017469663014914) you still can't pour or scoop (real) water.

Sorry, late night rant. Kinda bothers me.

This, this is good!

With all the added top-down features, and obvious acceptance of its popularity, is there a way to make sack boy "walk" on walls with his feet? Even if its via animating and rotating, is that a possibility? It used to be you could make him "lay down" by rotating him, but that only really worked with one direction, if you turned he'd go back to standing up, or you could use a controlinator, but that wasn't really him. Anyone know?

This is what I'm hoping for. If he can walk up walls and we can tilt that camera low, then we have 16 layer high, isometric levels.

What about this then? https://vine.co/v/OadjDPDLUvw Or is that also just an animation tweaker? either way is fine with me.

It's physicalness water material with an animation tweak but (for me at least) is doesn't just look like a 'workaround', it actually looks as it should do. I'm sure it will be reasonably easy to add in a few animated bubbles and splashes.

Yes, this. You can even see in the original Vine (https://twitter.com/itsChimpanzee/status/510844278877466624) that it's clearly a material. He even has a music sequencer placed on it. And there are a variety of decoration effects (https://twitter.com/rialrees/status/510874800269848578) and character animations (https://twitter.com/rialrees/status/510869486824869888) (this) (https://twitter.com/glitchfish/status/510929375580397568) that can help create the real water effect.

There is no doubt that this new animated material is awesome and I expect great things from it. But I don't want people to have the false hope that this is actually water. It won't react and move like the real water will.

Edit: Moley mentioned a water material in one of his tweets. Don't feel like looking for it right now.

I can't wait. I've seen a "topdown" looking level for LBP3 with a snowman, so I think for the most part, even if we can't us actual sackboys, we're still in business. We might just have to be creative. I used inLBP2 "creatinators" and some fancy connections to create top down "bodies" like this:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_qRfziukTCk
and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IvbAzaiGlQ0 this.

But I'd MUCH rather have a real sackboy and be able to use the other characters so that I can properly animate them in a top-down game. The old method was VERY time consuming and I'll honestly admit, didn't look that fantastic, but it was the best I could do.

I'm just so happy that they're embracing top-down popularity! :)

Well we know that we have an advanced mover, an animation tool with 'jump' and that we can orientate sackboy how we want ... It's a given that top down or isometric levels will no longer look clumsy when sackboy jumps. It would be great if there was a setting that enabled the 16 layers to become levels to jump up or down to instead of having to shift layers to give the impression of sackboy jumping, but that's asking too much ... isn't it?!

Those examples you posted show exactly why the word 'workaround' started to drive me nuts. Yes, is was clever considering the limitations and yes, you can admire the effort to get something approximating the desired result, but we need (and it looks like we have) to move away from those restraints and make LBP3 a true game creator.

You seem knowledgeable on this. I may have missed it, but is there a video somewhere of a reoriented top-down sackboy walking? I wouldn't mind seeing how this looks as far as raw animations go when "walking on walls". Or, perhaps I'd just need to add a feet shuffle animation when speed is above 1, or something. I think I could work with it either way.

Another thing I wish they'd do that I havent heard yet is change the direction of "up" for physics reasons. The reason I mention this is that things like fire, they float north rather than "up" if you do top down. I'm sure I have a video example of this...
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oPq1TsprxZA

It looks okay, but can be a bit annoying. Especially if they add "3d cameras", viewing from anything other than direct top-down will start to become very noticeable. I wish we could shift gravity so that particles would animate in a preferred way. Either way though, I'm happy with the new tools and improvements of what I've seen so far.

(And for the walking animation, I could always animate larger things to move like I did here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xdkEoZM76ag "created" animation doesn't seem to be too offputting. The only problem is with created creatures and animations is that you can only do true top-down. angled cameras would ruin the illusion. So very happy for the new sack-bodies, if all works well I can actually make beasts and what-not with oddsock and some of the others without having to actually "make" them. I'd much prefer that.)

Oh, I'm far from knowledgeable about these things. I just have a decent grasp on what is necessary to create a desired result. Creating it is another thing! LOL.

The shifting gravity idea is something I was praying would be in the game but I'm sure it's harder than we think to achieve. It could be there but from my brief conversation over at gaf with one of the devs, I think it's still going to come down to a workaround. There are lots of new effects so top down/isometric fire and the such should be much easier to achieve:

I looked through and I didn't see it mentioned (I'm so sorry if I missed it), but has there been any update on if costumes will be transferable or not?

I've heard mixed things from "Only the PS3 version" to "No altogether" to "Just DLC costumes" along with people saying they could just save their costumes in a level since all levels are apparently transferring? But wouldn't that not work since some parts won't be back? And really, this is mostly what I care about. I was never able to create any levels (despite having ideas I would've loved to put together) so I just want to know these things so I can prepare better for LBP3.

Very interesting if you ask me. I've got this sneaking suspicion that they've gone for a modular approach with the music creator and it's far more in depth than before. I think you'll be able to transfer it over to other devices in MP3 form, or place it in your game as usual. I'd also suggest we can have more than one track in a level. I also think each 'line' will be either 'active' or 'inactive' and we'll set to either using tags, which means people will be able to separate each line to create nuances of the main theme or even lay a completely new track down on another line. It just makes sense to me. Perhaps we'll also be able to 'loop' certain sections too.

I should comment on here more often! Anywho, I was super excited when I heard about the option to make materials climbable; I've always wanted do that! I hope to make a level in LBP3 similar to something like Rampage, so the player could climb buildings and smash them for point bubbles. I loved that game series!

Update: #13: A wonderful teaser on twitter (https://twitter.com/StevenIsbell/status/527076220266348544)shows us a glimpse of custom level trailers in the pod menu! A previous tweet hinted that the PS4 App Share Factory was used!

The depth of field is improved as well as you can set it coming from the front, back, or both. Ex. 20% back, 10% front.

We could do with some kind of path finder tool for the walking. Currently, the animation for walking doesn't actually move you along, it simply animates walking on the spot. I've found that followers are good for moving from point to point but if you add in any animations while you're between points, the walking animation stops while the other animation is active. Movers don't do that but movers override the natural walk of the sackbots and so the walking animation doesn't look quite as 'grounded'. It would be great if the walking animation actually made you walk. PASS IT ON.

Well, yes there are quite a few losses which i should've mentioned (sorry about that). You will essentially only be transferring over your collected objects/costumes and levels on your moon. This doesn't include DLC unlocks (unless you login with your old account but I don't know how all that works).

So I can just use a flash drive to transfer profiles between consoles and PSN accounts? How do I copy an LBP2 profile onto one?

You would go to the start menu and select backup profile. Then in LBP3 there is an import profile button. Another thing to note when you do this is I think trophies are disabled.

At least this is the case with LBP2 and seemed to be the case for LBP3 BETA as well.

I have a quick question.

In most videos of LBP 3 it appears that the automatic layer-switch does not happen between (for example) layer 1 and layer 16. There has to be a layer switch bounce pad for the switch to occur.

Is there a way to make auto layer switching work with all layers as it has in the past with just the original three?

You mean when a sackdoll automatically will change layers while it's falling? If so then the only way to have it automatically switch to far away layers for example layer 1 to layer 10 would be with custom logic... I'm fairly sure there is no easy quick button to change that setting tho. *mew

Why not use Toggle as your default character and put all the logic on him instead of a sackbot.

I think people need to get used to this. No need to "control" a sackbot as a main character anymore, you can just logic up your actual guy using the broadcast microchip.
