View Full Version : A Project Teaser

Hey everyone!

So, as a few of you may know I’ve been working on a true RPG level for LBP Vita. I’ve been working on this project for quite some time now but have been keeping most of it secret. Well, after a year of work I’d like to tease some of the project with you guys.

Most of my levels have been cheery and bright, with the RPG I wanted to create something a level that was more dark and somber.

The series takes a lot of inspiration from rogue likes, but the battle system is fully action based. With use of short and long range magic attacks and timed dodges (think a Dark Soul’s sorcerer). The main goal of each area is to defeat the boss, each with it’s unique abilities and strategies to surmount. The mob enemies aren’t pushovers though, you always have to be alert in this world, for Casten is a forbidden, hostile place.

As of now there are 8 elements, but with these elements your character can specialize and have different kinds of spells, right now there are 24 different kinds of attacks you can do. There is a heavy emphasis on experimentation, one should not get too focused on one spell and try to stick with it the entire game. The battles are all fast paced, so a lot of time has been put into making lag almost non-existent.

There is a fully fledged inventory system with equip slots for spells, potions/scrolls, rings/weapons, and the like. It’s drag and drop and intuitive to use. You’ll be spending a lot of time in this menu preparing your character for the next big boss or tough area, so I put a lot of love into this. I had way too much fun making this.

Essence drops from enemies you defeat, collect enough and return to the main area to find a someone who will help you grow stronger (level up) with it. Each level up you can increase your stats accordingly, e.g. attack power, magic reserves. You can also choose certain skills…

And of course items. You can only do only so much with your own skills. You can find/buy basic potions, scrolls, and catalysts through vendors but the most rare items come from defeating strong enemies, hidden chests, and fulfilling pacts with either demons or angels.

There is no class system as of now, as I wanted to give the player freedom to choose how they want to play as they progress. Want to be a pyromancer and hurl meteors at enemies? Go for it. Change your mind and want to switch to close ranged, but precise thunder attacks? You can do that to.

That’s all for today, this is but a small taste of the project. I’ll be releasing more information as the game progresses. I’m happy to say that right now all the tough logic is done and, most importantly, the memorizer is saving your stats/progress as it should. Special thanks to LookAUsername for his genius advice.

The release date depends on how life goes. I don’t like publishing levels as a single part with a to be continued, although I might resort to that, so the project will be released when it’s fully done.

Thanks for taking the time to read! I may put up a formula for how the stats scale to your level next for you number crunchers.

I'm not playing Vita often since I'm working hard on my PS3 level projects but your RPG project has the potential to change this! :)
I'm looking forward to play it sometime! :)

This project is very promising , and the screenshots compliment this very well! I'd gladly play this but I sold my Vita and LBPVita as I didn't play it nearly as much. The new creation tools really need to be added to LBP3, hm.
