View Full Version : Rope?

I just noticed that the LBP3 box art (on Amazon) shows sack boy swinging on what appears to be a physically realistic rope held in his hand. It would seem strange to feature such an image if there was no way for him to do that in game, no? Has this already been discussed? Are we to look forward to rope physics at long last?

Well, theres already the added climbing ability so I wouldn't be surprised if they added rope swinging too!:)

That actually gives me an idea.

What if rope was essentially string, but you can grab it? Not only that, but you can go up and down the rope as well.

I honestly think that this would work really well - unless that's what you were implying, which in that case I apologize.

No apology needed, but that was the gist of what I was thinking too. Except I was also imagining that you wouldn't necessarily have to anchor both ends as you do with string, so that the sackboy could swing around Tarzan-style as well as shimmy up and down. We have some of that now with the grappling hook, but these would be in fixed positions in a level. And, as already illustrated on the LBP3 box cover, this could allow Sackboy to hold and use a power up while also swinging on the rope!

Rope... Maybe just maybe when building Rope it just like creating string, piston, etc.

or maybe its a grapple hook texture (maybe you can texture powerups to fit level themes now :O)

No, the box art also has him holding the Pumpinator, I doubt hes dual-wielding powerups.:)

Well if what Sackboy is doing on the cover isn't just for show, then I hope we can finally have a way to grab onto something while having a power-up equipped.

I did read somewhere that this could be a thing.

You could consider the grappling hook this, but I understand what you've wrote. Swing on a rope shooting paint balls like a action sequence or such.

Yeah, I'm referring to that pretty much. Same goes for the Creatinator, Brain Crane, Hero Cape, etc.

actually, that gives ME an idea! What if we can tweak rope to have textures and physics? For example if the thing that the rope was attached to got closer to the other thing it was attached to, it could bend or something :D

Sounds neat. If the rope item is actually a thing, then I wouldn't be surprised if we could already do this then.

A hand over hand animation for when you are clinging to the ceiling would be handy too.
