View Full Version : The Beat'em'up

Since I didn't get into the beta and bonner's busy doing god-knows-what, I thought I'd share my little idea that we were having.

Lately me and bonner have been playing God Hand, after discovering its in-depth mechanics and quirky humor. We were looking forward to making a similar beat-em-up in LBP3, and the gameplay footage released a bit before things began to roll out really got me amped. It was going to be mostly weapon-based, though I was strongly pushing for traditional fist-style combat.

Without shattering the NDAs, what do y'all think of the plausibility of such a project? I'm not sure if Sackboy's joints can be posed just yet, but I've developed a similar logical system. The game wouldn't be top-down like gevurah's thingy was, but all of the damage-dealing stuff can already be coded in with current LBP2 tools (and some effort and consultation).

Disappointment turns into discussion, to the tl;dr friends among us. What do y'all think?

You could always just use sprites and pixel art animation to create attacks and such. Like so https://lbp.me/v/qsskvgp

I think we would try and use a combination of character animations and weapons rather than using a pixel style, as we want to blend traditional LBP platforming with God Hand style combat (although the intricacies of the combat logic will probably need to be thought out by actio1_618...). Essentially, the series will be a continuation of the Esmerelda mythos with a more structured (but nonsensical) plot.

Here's a random concept doodle of one of the earlier areas we have planned:

Animation potential is really underrated in Lbp2. I think it's a beautiful idea. LBP3 had Force repel now which helps with melee combat. I can't wait to get my hands on LBP3.

I hope they added a kick move though. You can always do the streets of rage route but I have already seen a 3rd platformer in LBP3 so God Hand style games wouldn't be that hard to pull off now.
