We currently have wheels and legs as creature parts to make moving creatures. I'd like to see a hover jet (looks like a small rocket thruster) and wings as additional options. These would work like the wheels and legs but they would ignore gravity. The creature would move back and forth parallel to the ground instead of on the ground.

I currently do this with pistons but this means you can't use the brain options for movement. (I've also done it using ledges in hidden backgrounds, but this is needlessly complex and limits its use for many creators.)

You could kinda do this by putting wheels on the creature, hiding them, and drawing a long, invisible line of dark matter below him, thereby giving it the illusion of flight. Although, a pair of wings or rocket boosters wouldn't hurt..

The problem with this method is that the dark matter will block attacks. You can avoid this problem by using multiple layers (so the wheels or feet are actually on a hidden ledge). I do this with some of my creatures. However, as soon as you start using multiple or hidden layers the complexity goes up to the point where it becomes inaccessible for many players and takes much longer to build what should be relatively simple things.

This has already been discussed in a similar thread:

I suggest that you use the search function next time ;).

Yeah I saw that. This one is a little bit different. However, I could have posted this in that thread.

The suggestion in that thread was for a new type of movement option to be created, where one can create a preset movement path that is repeated over and over. Personally, I think that would be really cool. However, it would be a major addition.

This is a slightly different idea of using the same mechanism for flying creatures as for wheels and legs. The creature just moves back and forth until it hits an orb, then it turns around. It's a relatively minor addition, that could be easily implemented by creating a couple new creature parts.

But yes, this could have been placed in that other thread talking about preset movement paths (which is something I'd be very happy to see added as an option for all creatures rather than just flying ones).
