View Full Version : Do the developers actually read LBPC and other forums for ideas?

Just something I was wondering. I'm not saying they don't, but there are really good ideas that they should capitalize on. Seeing as its only 2 months away, and most things are finished, some small additions should be added in from community suggestions.

So I'ma put a few ideas from people in this thread that should be deeply considered by the devs and steven. I'll credit the suggestions if I can

HUDs- suggested by many people, Allowing creators to make their own hud for their levels/games with separate hud materials to use. -MMLGamer, Shadenmonk

Bringing Boos back- If they haven't already, they should. Now this is a touchy topic, but it would be better overall if they bring it back. Or at least bring back the ratings system.

More Music or importing music- Generally a good idea.

Cool Creators- Would really put some creators out there. -rarfi

Customizable popit colors- A must

The Attachable Claw- Nice idea http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?91360-The-Attatchable-Claw

Create mode and wider pod- Please..

3D camera- This will greatly help levels, and change ways we can create. This needs to be in

After thoughts- Cool pages back, but revamped. Any copied levels will not show up on the cool pages, and changes daily, with highest rated non-mm picked levels on top, and other good levels below the top.

Well, LBP is a log time game, so even I it isn't in the first release it can still be added later

And yeah they read. I dunno if some of them read as guests, but their community manager StevenI interacts and posts a lot. I can't say for certain, but I'd imagine a lot of fan feedback for LBP/ went into tiny, less marketable aspects of LBP3. And he talks a lot here. In fact, hell probably post in this thread later. But if not, his names pink, can't miss him

If you look at the bottom of the main forum webpage theres an active users window. It shows who is online and the colours of each account. Pink is a Media Molecule employee and purple is a Tarsier employee.

Yeah, I know that they are here, but I wanted to know if they took the time to read suggestions and community input and actually put good ones in the game. They obviously do to some extent, but do they actually put great ideas into the game? A lot of amazing ideas suggested during LBP2 weren't put in, and I've wondered since if they actually listen to us.

Yes, they do

if you patrol the threads closely, you can always find ria correcting people (with a hilarious comment) and seeing the create mode jam info from ria is sure to show that they're active

also reading stevenI's comments always gives me a good chuckle

Sort of.
They can read our ideas but for legal reasons they can't use any of them.

They can only use input on stuff they've already created.

Wow, thats weird, I would've never expected a big input blocker like that

Let's say I post an idea here and the developers see it and decide to use it in LBP3, there'd be nothing stopping me from suing them for using my idea without my permission.

You can't copyright an idea. Section 102(b) of the Copyright Act specifically states: “In no case does copyright protection for an original work of authorship extend to any idea, procedure, process, system, method of operation, concept, principle or discovery, regardless of the form in which it is described, explained, illustrated or embodied in such work. I also do believe simply writing the idea down doesn't protect by copyright either. Think about it like this: No one directly copied William Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet word-for-word and slapped their name on it, but they have used his idea—a love story about two young people from rival families— over and over again. Seen as no one has made their ideas on here a reality, they can't copyright them, therefore people can use them.

Developers also do use they ideas and suggestions by the community. A example of this would be CoD:Ghosts. The community said they wanted Search & Destroy back in to the public match playlist, and Infinity Ward did so. Clearly, no one sued Infinity ward for doing this.

I'm just citing what community managers on other video-game forums have said, I don't really know the details.

Rarfi is kinda right in what he says what the developers think about all this... Well at least this is what some of them thought during the LBP2 era. I have on random occasions privately talked to some people involved with the development on some of the LBP games and at the time they told me the same thing more or less that Rarfi is explaining here. But far as what is actual facts on how this stuff works? I'm not 100% sure personally. *mew

Well, when you publish your level to the LBP servers, Sony then owns your levels technically. So maybe, it'd be simialr if you post to the Sony owned websites... Or maybe this site has a deal with MM.

Then again, something like "Bring Boos back" can't possibly be specific enough to be grounds for a lawsuit...

Not a good example since most of us besides noobs/casuals are against suggestions like that 1. And since that was something the company decided to be rid of they are not gonna backtrack on such a decision regardless.*mew

But a suggestion like "give us more pod customization" is a good example of something people would enjoy or at least be ok with either-way.

Honestly, that's a pretty stupid thing. We should all give Sumo the rights to use our ideas. That's what I would do at least.

I'd be fine with agreeing to a copyright disclaimer on lbpc before posting ideas

TECHNICALLY you can build in your pod using "the brand spanking new" sackpocket. heck you can create anywhere.

something else i want in story mode is a use for score bubbles. after beating the last boss, a weird stranger opens a new shop with all the coolest power-ups,materials,and etc. but they are VERY expensive, like in the millions for one item. that way you can always come back to story mode with something to do. (also lets say you ace a level/100% it,you get like a thousand bubbles. but its one time per lvl)

- - - - - - - - - -

last thing:an ultra hardcore mode of LBP3. only for psople who have 1 and 2,the hardcore mode has 5 lives per level, and everything is harder, but with new goodies. there would be ester eggs mentioning the other games.

TimeLordBlue

I don't think the sackpocket allows you to use it in your pod, just a pocket to hold power-ups from that specific level. But it seems like they do take at least some ideas, because in one trailer they showed the cool levels in the community menu.

nope, sumo even said the sackpocket goes anywhere you golevels can restrict its use, though.

Many a "great" idea can turn out to be not so great after further investigation.

Also, yes.

1: I thought the Sackpocket was for storing characters and powerups and dead Sackfolk's heads.

2: Super special shop items seems like a great idea.

3: I've completed both LBP 1 and 2, so I'd love to see some Nostalgia Levels for the fandom's viewing pleasure.

Also, yes.

Yes, in this case, appears to mean yes, we do prowl the forums for amazing ideas. At the very least, it means that they're furthering their investigation of great ideas.

yeah, a super mega thingy shop would be awesome! you can then also buy costume items, but they too are also high. this reminds me so much of the item shop in castle crashers. after you beat the game, some man opens a shop with all these golden ultimate weapons. but they are really expensive. like 500,000 gold per item. (and imagine, most gold you get from a single level is like 50)

There was a tweet (https://twitter.com/StevenIsbell/status/512599358970556416) the other day where Steven mentioned that he was talking with the UI guys suggesting ideas from the community. I also remember reading a tweet from Sumo saying they read the LBPWishes hashtag.

They can use our ideas, seriously. Our discussions for new ideas and someone else using that idea is not legally stealing something. Nothing has been technically created, either, just an idea in the air. Could you imagine how much trouble they would be in right now if that were true? The many many layers has been a thought since LBP1...all these ideas and discussions we have on the forum doesn't just eliminate the possibility of them using the idea, it just doesn't make sense. We would even have a LBP2 or 3 if anything we thought of couldn't be used.

Remember when we used GetSatisfaction? If we suggested anything they liked, they would fix/add it.

Hi.
The answer, I believe, is Yes.
Little Big Planet in all its forms has been going years, and there has been an incredible amount of DLC, patches, updates etc.
A large portion of LBP3 has come about due to the companies involved actively listening to community feedback (some of the developers are from the community itself. And there are developers out here in the community and they read the posts and threads you make for feedback.
They may not always have a chance to answer back personally, but they are taking on-board peoples ideas and suggestions.

Developers take both their ideas and community suggestions and weigh up what's currently possible to program, what will best add to the game, what most people want to see in it. As it nears the release deadline they have to stop adding things so they can bug test and release (publishing and distribution too), There is only so much they can squeeze in before release, but they are always on the look out for new ideas from people like your good self.

They DO take peoples ideas on board. If they feel its an idea that works and adds to the game they can add it in an update (and do) later.

LBP has always been about community and people play, create and sharing together.

Having tested the beta, I can say, a lot of ideas that people wanted in lbp2 have been put in lbp3.

I used to read Rockstar's community blog posts to keep up with the latest RDR updates. On a few occasions the mods there posted a specific e-mail adress we could use to write in ideas for the next RDR. So I did and the second e-mail I sent they actually replied to thanking me for my interest but they'd also written a hundred words on how they didn't take suggestions from the community because of legal reasons and copyright stuff.....nice internal interaction Rockstar. Oh well, just a funny story.

Sure they do. But guys. If you dont know the hired ppl from the community and those guys know exactly what we wanted since lbp 1. There are things like steveni said are not a great idea after digging in it. But still we have some cool and always wanted stuff in this new adventure.

Hellyeah said.
