They encourage people to copy and make those levels where they "give prizes" if you heart and yay their level.

You can't blame the rating system. Its the users who try to exploit it and become 'Famous', which doesn't entirely make sense. Tom Hanks is famous. I have 174 legitimate hearts, and yes I would like more. But I won't exploit the system because I respect it in a way that makes me want to earn my hearts. Without the rating system, trust anyone when they say this but a rare amount of users who make their levels with effort would even get a play. Then again there is this forum which helps people get the level off the 0 plays zone. People wouldn't know the good from the bad.

Don't forget plenty of those people are trophy hunters who are trying to platinum the game. You want to see the boosting forums, hundreds of people posting "I'll play yours and you play mine."

They encourage SOME people to copy and make those levels where they "give prizes" if you heart and yay their level.

The system also encourages some people to try even harder to make their levels, or get a fun boost of self esteem. And SEW is right. It's exploitation. This kind of discussion has been started many times, and it pretty much becomes, "We need a way to tell if a level is good or not."

PS: Regarding 'fame'. Fame is a word that works on many levels/sizes. In the case of a fandom, which this community basically is but much more, the most well known [of] in that group can be considered famous within that group. There is no set amount of followers, fans, or lovers that distinguishes if someone is famous. Not everyone knows of Tom Hanks.

Whhaaaaaat?!?!?! Com'on everyone who has seen a film ever knows Tom Hanks! Everyone 'ought to know him... If someone said to me they don't know Mr. Hanks I'd slap them.

When I was referring to fame I was talking about others. They think you become famous, but I don't think that's how it works.

Well not everyone knows of him! Gersh! :V Like... Some people on some deserted island, or in some secluded region in some desolate area!

And! Don't forget. There's also infamy! But these levels with the prizes and the hearts may just be attracting curious peeps or others who do the same. Although i'm not saying that what they are doing gives THOSE particular individuals fame. I'm just saying that Tom Hanks is famous, yes, but so can someone who has made some amazing levels on here! Though only famous within this area. Internet fames, as it were!

Hanks was stranded on an island once for many years. Back in his days when he worked for FedEx. Made some friends on the island too. Harold. Nice guy.

I understand you can become known within a community, much like Steve_Big_Guns due to his 100,000 and continuing-to-build hearts. Then there's Poms and Lockstitch, Special_D and so on. But these players are known from making good levels, exceptional levels actually like you stated. Players who try to gain recognition through means of an exploit aren't going to get recognized except by those who do the same as them, even then they are only attracting plays.

If I were to define recognition in the LBP community I'd have to describe it as: one who is frequently active and publishing levels at a high quality every few weeks, plays others levels and interacts with commenting and leaving feedback at to contributing to the succession and improvement of others levels in future. In doing so I would like to think this is how one would start to get some attention.

I didn't mean remove the rating system, I meant remove those pins and trophies.

Maybe removing the trophies would be effective but pins isn't a motivator in my opinion. There nice, but not trophies. There will always be exploits but there will be a system that is fair. The developers and players just need to think of it.

The majority of trophy hunters go on Boosting threads on PS3Trophies. The vast majority don't spam, and many would just leave when they get the plat. I also think they don't care about pins. People who frequently spam only want the fame and peoples attention, which is not something that can just be stopped. I don't see why everyone can't just ignore them if they don't like them, no ones forcing anyone to engage with them.

In fact when I think about it. Removing the online trophies for publishing levels will clear up many of the 'play for play' levels. Though keeping the play trophies such as 'Yay 40' levels and 'Dive In 25' which encourages multiplayer play but not publishing spam in order to obtain trophies.

Well a counter-argument to that is actually that their presence has an effect on a player, and not one that the player willingly chooses.

There's a limited number on the list of recently published levels that someone will want to traverse through. If the spam didn't fill the list and make traveling through the levels somewhat annoying, then sure, we could just ignore them.

Anywho!

So a focus on trophies that are awarded for playing others' levels.

I think by not rewarding the player with trophies for getting plays but giving them would not only prevent trophy hunters contributing to the clutter but also increase level awareness because they have to play others' level to gain the trophies. Do you have an idea for preventing the contribution of trophy hunter spam?

The idea or 'plan for a solution', is what you quoted.

The issue is the spam. We need to get rid of it.

So we look at why there is spam, then fix that.
From what I have seen, it is the trophies that are the problem. (As is what I have gathered)
A complete removal of trophies won't do though since some love trophies, and then there are things like that Extra Life thing. Also, Playstation forces games to have trophies. At least that is what I am to believe when one of my favorite games (Don't Starve) came to PS3. But the kats at Klei (Guys who made Don't Starve) put in a useless trophy you could make in the game, a statue thing, that's only purpose was to berate the idea of Trophies/Achievements. Was great and funny.

Anywho. The spam comes from trophies, so fix them. Make it to where the outcome of getting the trophy does not include spam.

Sometimes copyable can be a good thing, it's just that people abuse it. And in a game where people from different regions come to make a level, to keep them from being able to copy levels and pieces to put into the full level/game would be horrible.

And pretty much everyone who has a popular level doesn't have copyable on and I'm sure they ignore those comments already. If they are doing it already and the problem still exists, then that's not one of the problems.

Yes. Trophies are one of the core motivators and most obvious, so balancing the trophies would lower the spam. I don't think it can be prevented in its entirety but decreased in amount. And yes, games require trophies. Additionally I didn't know Don't Starve was on PlayStation 3. I got it free on PlayStation 4 vis Plus.

By now you think the developers would have became aware of this being one of the main issues with spam. Or we need to bring it to their attention.

Yes. But they won't. :(

Then again. It can be beneficial to allow levels to be copyable. As stated by Devious_Oatmeal.

A report level spam button. XD

That wouldn't be effective in any aspect if you're serious. Consider the developer to level ratio, who would have the time to test every level and so on with the process that is done in this subject.

this has been suggested and thought over time and time again, but every time we come up with the same conclusion-

it simply won't work, or work well & the bad consequences outnumber the good
