It's fun to see a few community members remake sprite-based games from the 80s/90s. Here, I'm looking for what's been done well enough that it would be redundant for someone else to make again. Please post whatever you find.

I've also seen multiples of a well-made Super Mario Bros. 1-1(along with some that are not!) (sry can't post link because I'm not sure which ones they are)

I'm in the process of remaking at least the first level in Super Mario World, Yoshi's Island 1. I hope to eventually get that on this list.

Gyueen has the best Gradius remakes, IMO.

Personally, I don't see the creative appeal very much of literal remakes. You end up with a result that - at best - is only as good as the original; and most of the time it is worse because people who care for the sentimental value will judge it on the original's merits instead of its own; and the people who don't have the childhood memories will most likely judge it by today's standards and go "meh!".

Online gaming publications are a sucker, though, for "Zelda remade in LBP!" to draw clicks from sentimental gamers.

Of course, you're free to do whatever you like, but I see a lot more value in remakes where the creator improves upon the original, adds ideas of their own that nicely fit in the existing universe, give it the creator's signature and maybe even lift the game up to today's expectations of gameplay value and presentation.
