The LittleBigPlanet Community Presents...

The LittleBigPlanet Speed Run !

We are proud to be holding a crown contest that is not based on you skills as a creator, but as a skilled platformer! how fast are your reflexes as they will be put to the test in this contest.
The aim of this contest is to speedrun the Deep Space Drive-In from Manglewood, from start to finish the aim is to get the fastest time possible!
You will have a week to get the quickest time possible on the level and a crown will be awarded to the sackperson with the fastest time (Closing Date 2nd February 2016 @ 6pm GMT)

The Rules :

You can be on either PS3 or 4 but the videos must be uploaded to youtube and posted below to be considered a participant in the contest

Your time starts from when your player enters the level to the moment you finish the level. PS4 users can record the play through and then upload it to youtube or they can live stream it. PS3 players would have to have a game capture card or could record the footage on their phone to be able to upload their playthrough to youtube.

We have given you a few weeks to enter in case some of you are busy / have a low upload speed to give you enough time to enter the contest

If you wish to enter simply post your PSN, youtube link and your time. Judges will be checking times so please try to be as close as you can with your time

Entries after the 2nd February 2016 will not be counted.

Good Luck !

I have a question. The rules say that the time is clocked from the moment you enter the level, to when you complete it. When you "complete it", that is saying that the "You found Oddsock's marble " screen appears, correct?

Aceman you actually got 2 minutes and 7 seconds and basically copied what @xxGIRxx did...Well...uh...good job...? Oh really? Huh, guess the stopwatch method is slightly off. Also, it's not really coping his run because 1, you can only Speedrun this level in a handful of ways. It just happens to be that xxGIRxx's is the probably the best way, and it comes down to whoever can do it the fastest and most presice

Also, there is no way I'm the only person who has "copied" someone's run. Its simply taking notes, and applying them in your own run

...Really?

It's called skill. It is not unfair. If you actually bothered to do your research on speedrunning, you'd know that not only is glitching actually a legitimate method of speedrunning (heck, look at P-P-J and RabidJellyfish's LBP speedrunning guides, they teach skips but they were awarded a Prize Crown and a couple of rare pins for that), but a LOT of speedruns do use glitches for the purpose of beating the game faster (just look at speedrunning events like AGDQ and you will see glitches being put to use). These glitch runs still use what is provided in the game, just cleverly manipulated for a winning advantage. Some skips are hard, some are easy, but ANYONE can practice these skips and they, too, can possess the skill of making a great run. If people do the same strat as one another, it shouldn't be a problem because it's possible for one to do better than the other. It's not like it's impossible for anyone to do these skips. Practice makes a good run.

If you wanted glitchless runs you should have stated this from the start, so that I wouldn't have made this post. :)

Before doing this contest we were unaware of any glitches ion this level that were able to allow players out of the level hence why we didn't mention it. The glitches have been passed on to the QA and should be getting fixed in the next update or so. If we had been aware of these out of level bugs then we would have stated that they would not be allowed to be used.

I've watched this discussion and I want to tell you my point of view!
One could think that using the so called "glitches" could be a kind of cheating to get an easy way to win a contest, but...as far as I've watched the videos f.e. of p-p-j are these "advanced speed run techniques" everything else, but not easy to do! You need a lot of practise to do them right to get an advantage. It seems to be especially a matter of exact timing, which you can only get by a hard training.
These advanced speed run techniques are for gamer, who love to do speed runs and also love to try out their limits!
And who are willing to invest a long time in training their skills!
So we have a situation like in sports, we have different categories of gamers comparable to the weight classes in boxing. Why not try to get a second crown prize for the second weight class? I think that StevenI will understand the dilemma and make a second crown prize available for the winner in the category "speed run specialists".

Btw! Fantastic results in the "under one minute! category aaand also in the "about two minutes" category.

Many greetings, Jürgen^^

A. Well i'm sorry for being mistaken, but i thought someone here looked this over and would okay someones contest for launch here. Otherwise anyone can just make any contest? and say heyyyyy i have this crown i want to give away? And lbpc is cool with it? I mean i wouldn't trust it then if its not verified from the site. Cause who's to say they truly have a crown? So that's why i thought it is lbpc.

B. Well its something ive seen here over a long period of time and a personal experience.....and I didn't want to come off insulting which i guess i did and i'm sorry, but come on, no one else here that runs this site didnt see this coming? you know this whole game is one giant glitch. And play contests have gone this way in the past cheating in some way shape or form.. i'm not knocking the player, i think its awesome when they can figure this stuff out.

So i say sorry and Good luck to those who enter and your search for that shiny rare crown piece :)

It's being run by the LittleBIgPlanet PS4 Community, the reason for it being posted on here is because the community can only be assessed by PS4 players so it would be unfair for PS3 users hence why we have posted it on here. Ill speak with steve about the glitch enteries and see what he says but like i said, we were not aware of any glitches before starting this contest, if we did we would have stated that they were not allowed to be used. This is why we picked a story level as we thought that players were unable to glitch the levels to get out of them.

That does not excuse you from not saying you wouldn't allow glitch runs in the first place. You can't just avoid the one kind of run people would do and then make excuses as to why you don't allow it later, when people start submitting these runs. As a games designer I'm sure you'd know that games aren't always perfect and that there will always be glitches in some form or another, ESPECIALLY in LittleBigPlanet 3. I think the term "just in case" applies here.

It is asinine and ignorant to even think that people wouldn't be able to glitch the story levels. It's even worse to make yourself look like an embarassment and admit this later, when people are submitting runs with skips. This is poor management on your part Sam, you should have made sure that everything was stated in the original post in the Rules section (heck, you don't even need to say why, just mention that you won't take glitch runs). Cut it with the excuses. It hurts me to say this because I know you are better than this. I mean really...

Just saying whilst yes in typical speed runs you can use glitches, don't you think it adds more challenge to the contest if the player actually has to run through the level and get the quickest time. Glitching the level doesn't really warrant a crown as that's just cheating. it's like having a sandwich with no mayo... only sick creatures do that! You also have to remember that contests should be open to everyone and it would be fairer on those that don't know how to glitch the game like more experienced players,

Whilst it was quite bad co-ordination to not state this earlier there is no need to start a rant about "Typical Speedruns" LBP Isn't your typical game and shouldn't be treated as such :D! Anyways good day may the mayonnaise be with you!

I called this days ago. : P

I take exception to that comment. There have been issues with competitors that have signed up for contests, but not due to the LBPC Contest team. If you would like to discuss that further, please by all means PM me.

As it has been posted by ForgottenEnigma, we didn't even create this contest. Considering it is being ran on another site and just advertised here, we don't normally investigate that there might be an issue with a possibility of glitch running. lol

Fyi... things happen. Blaming us for someone discovering a glitch in a level we didn't even make? Wow... that's a new one. lol

For the record. We take crown contests seriously, but it is always on the hosting site that created the contest to decide the rules, work through any issues, keep the judging fair and do the due diligence to make a fair and fun contest.

I remember the time, when MarioKart was published for the N64. Nintendo started a comparable competition aaaaand ...its been so amazing what shortcuts the participants found and what unbelievable short times they needed for the courses! As far as I can remember there has been noone ranting that this would be cheating, there has been a kind of "fever" in the community to find even more effective shortcuts! And Nintendo itself also had no problems with this! :)
I've PM ed StevenI and asked him for a second crown! Maybe that then we can calm down again! :)

I see Jww has already replied but I wouldn't want to appear rude by not replying myself. In essence you are correct; this sub-forum is designed so that people can run their own contests. If they have arranged with the Devs to give away a crown we will not interfere and naturally assume they themselves have looked over and approved the contest.

For contests officially endorsed / created by LBPC we will only post in the "site contests" sub-forum, never the "community contests" one.

I think the wording of this contest may have caused confusion over who's actually organizing it and awarding the prizes. Usually crown contests posted in the "community" section are hosted by another fansite. The contests hosted by individual community members don't generally give prizes that are so coveted as a crown.
This contest is not hosted by another site, it's hosted by the PS4 LittleBigPlanet community - or more accurately, by one of it's moderators. When we talk about "the LBP community" we usually mean all the people who play/create/share, but in this case we're talking about the PS4 group. Anyone who doesn't have a PS4 or just hasn't looked at the "communities" might find the terminology confusing.

My two cents about the contest: These "cheats/glitches" being used are not hacks, they're something anyone can do, right? If nothing was said at the outset about having to follow the intended path of the level, then players should be allowed to get through in any way possible. I'd rather not see a second crown awarded for this comp, I say let the fasted player win and leave it at that.

Well I would be inclined to give it to the players that actually ran through the entire level.. Overall this contest is a mess and has been poorly organised, however it allows those that don't like to create to have a chance at winning "sharing" the glory.

However next time a speed run is conducted I do believe something less powerful than a crown should be given like a pin! Yes it was a cool little bug to find and will probably be patched up so maybe the glitch finders should be awarded something else? like the bug blaster? Idk Also there is no need to be mean to moderators, they're trying to spread the joy for this community :)! You have to admit this contest has got a lot of people in the community spiced up :)!

so yeah just to recap

1.)You must run through the entire level rather than skipping half of it!

2.) The crown may be a tad too powerful for what this contest is offering but it's a great way to start the series, possibly give out a £20 giftcard or pin next time. Possibly a crown for someone who can make an amazing speedrun level? that would be a pretty swish contest!

3.) No more mean comments towards moderators or contest organisers or general sass towards the contest, i am quite surprised to see forum moderators slating this!

4.) Feed Glitchfish 12x mayo jars a day for satisfaction

OK. Its almost February 2nd, and I'm completely lost what is allowed for this contest and what isn't... Someone, my GOD, needs to clear this discussion up, so we all have another equal chance at dat shiny Prize Crown ;)

Make sure you run through the entire level and not glitch! Glitching is banned in this contest! New rules!

Way back on LBP1 LBN ran the 1st LBP Crown Gameplay contest...to start with we held a create crown contest and then used a selection of the best, most playable levels from that to make up a field of varied levels to be played, platformers, races, hi-score challenge and survivals. Not one of of these levels had issues or bugs or gaps unlike the 'professionals' in game level. A much better and more challenging way to determine a true Crown worthy gameplay champion.

With a little more thought and planning then something like this could have been done again ....but I guess not now due to the dumbed down LittlebigTwittersphere version of the community operation which sadly reflects the half-assed broken nature of the game itself...at all levels from design to communication..they haven't got a clue.

It clearly demonstrates where forums such LBPC and LBN come into their own by providing a resource for planning and implementing successful crown contests, weeks of discussion by teams of experienced organisers..something that can't be duplicated on twitter or the PS4 chat groups that the community management seems to be leaning towards as the main form of communication.

Ok It has come to my attention that the contest will actually be awarding a crown for the person that runs through the entire level and a crown for the fastest glitch time! :D Alright good luck everyone!

Glitched run:

Psn: derp_123-

Time: 47 seconds

YouTube: https://youtu.be/zLCOr6qy7KA

For some freaking reason YouTube decided to add a extra second to the video. In share factory the clip length is 47 Seconds long. (Please note the clip is cut to the very second the scoreboard appears so if it is not visible on YouTube then I don't know what to say.)

Only if I had a camera or recording software.

Just to make this clear, we are giving a crown to both a legit time and a glitched time. So it is now fair for both types of players. If we do another one of these in the future we will be building a level or getting one of you guys to make a level for the contest, Happy running ! :P

Who won?

Apparently there was some controversy over who won so I timed up the videos to prove that FattyMcIntosh was indeed the winner of the run.

Doesn't he already have a crown? :meh:

(Unless I've mistaken.)

No. If you see him wearing the crown in LBP1 in photos, it's a fake. There's a glitch in LBP1 that allows you to wear any DLC costume for free

Lol these runs. Sad that a contest based on skills turns in a ' who cheat better ' contest.
