  • LittleBigPlanet 2 quasi confirmed - will feature Electronic music

Electronic artist Chris "Ochre" Leary confirmed a LittleBigPlanet sequel yesterday when he mistakenly tweeted that one of his tracks will be included in the new game. Although Sony attempted to kill the spread of the rumor by having Leary remove the tweet, the news spread like wildfire to various gaming sites (Kotaku included) before the damage control was in full effect.

According to IGN, the song rumored to be included in the new sequel is Infotain Me. It sounds like nothing that's been included in LittleBigPlanet thus far, but it still definitely seems like it would be a good fit for a LittleBigPlanet game.

Sony was likely planning to announce the sequel sometime this year, probably at or before E3, so keep your eyes out for new information about this over the coming months.

Sure it can happen! It's just a case of upgrading the code, making it more efficient. They release patches all the time to improve the speed and stability of the game. Now with a new slate they'll have so much more freedom to restructure the inner workings, and with the knowledge they gained from the first they should be able to do a whole lot more.

Something I would love in the sequel is to be able to toggle layer visibility, insanely useful.

The main question I have is "Why now?" Really, LittleBigPlanet is only 1 year old, and we need another one?! It just doesn't seem right...

My biggest fear is Sony's influence.

"Add the Wii controller Playstation Arc functionality to every aspect of the game and make it 3D and and make it compatible with Facebook and and call it LBP2: Modern Warfare and allow only bomb survivals to be published and emm... make sure it has a touch screen! That's what people really want!"

I'm happy there will be a sequel, but I don't like it when it gets out un officially. Ruins the surprise. lol, this is like with Portal 2, those musicians ruin everything!

Maybe this is Halo 3: ODST to Halo 3. Just an expansion, too big for DLC and built off the same engine.

For my own sake i hope it's a real sequel and not DLC.

LBP is so dull to me now, i was playing it for almost an entire year non-stop and now i can't bare to even pick up the case anymore. There's only so much of the same game i can take!

It'd be so awesome having a new fresh and familiar start. Exploring the new levels, mechanics, create mode, music - reliving how awesome the original was it was the first time i played through it.

It'll be at least 2 years since the original was released so it wouldn't entirely be a crime to move the community along. Although integrating the communities together would be a lot better

I hope the PSmove doesnt have too much focus, no more than the paint gun. I think its too gimmicky and goofy. But hey ya never know, it could turn out to be more thsn meets the eye.

      My thoughts exactly

I think that this is disk-based add-on content bundled with move. Here's why.

Exhibit A. That video that somebody else posted on here shows an example of Move-based gameplay. You'll notice the way LBP looks in this video is strikingly similar to LittleBigPlanet 1. This is because, like a Sony rep. said, this content would add on to the existing game. But what about the constant accidental LittleBigPlanet 2 name-dropping, you ask? Simply a nickname for a massive bunch of disk based add-ons.

Exhibit B. Sony likes money. So, Sony could do a number of things here. A., they could release it as DLC, gaining them the least amount of money possible. B., they could release a new game, causing everyone to go buy this new game, which makes them rich. Or, C., release it as disk-based DLC, causing all the old players to buy a new game bundled with Move, and all the NEW players to buy LittleBigPlanet, the Disk-Based Add-Ons, AND Move, making them richer! That's forcing new players to buy two games instead of one!

Exhibit C. I can recall a certain Alex Evans of Media Molecule say in June of 2009 that not only did he see a LBP sequel as inevitable, but he also said he would like it to be backwards-compatible. Another Mm rep. said that there would be no sequal. So, providing a backwards-compatible, half-sequel, half-add-on to the game that would make a ton of money, keep the Community together, and make everything everyone's been saying true seems logical to me.

      I could be wrong, though.

Yeah HackbookPro, at this stage, everything is possible....!

Btw, watching this video again confirms me that I'm not getting that Move stuff.....
Moving pink blocks with a red cross seems a little boring to me.... Hope "LBP2" will not be all about that....

I doubt it would be. I'm talking about composing music, not putting in premade tracks, but making them with a simple music tool.

I never payed attention to the rumors in the past, but the guy's statement was pretty clear. I can't say I'm too happy that a sequel might be in the works, obviously there are more questions than answers. Instead of looking at the negative, I've been trying to see the positive in all this.

I always saw LittleBigPlanet almost like a beta, everyone who has played this game knows it isn't perfect. There are many things we all wish could be improved/added. So much has gone down in the year it's been released, with all the H4H, trophy, bomb levels, etc.. It almost seems like the community side will always remain garbage. A sequel would bring a fresh new start, with improved community features.

This is something I've thought of as well, it would make such a huge and awesome impact on LBP. Then again, a full range of pitches for any instrument would be nice .

I haven't bothered to read the whole thread (c'mon, people, it's huge!) but in my opinion, as long as Mm has full authority over itm I can't see LBP2 being a bad thing. In fact, I believe all the levels in LBP will be still available.

If a sequel is not compatible at all with LBP there could be an up-side. All the casual people who release all the garbage levels will move up to the sequel, and the original community would improve.

Hi just finished reading the thread. Why are you people being so negative, we do not know anything definite about this yet.
All we know is that a music track has been licensed for a game called LBP2, it may be a sequel or how about this for a radical
thought, It may not be part of the Play, Create- Share genre, It could just as easily be a simple platformer like Super Mario or
a kart racer like MNR, or acut fighter like Rag Doll Kung-Fu or a cute RPG like the Lego games, even an FPS featuring the Paintinator,

Any of these game genre`s could feature Sackboy as a lead character.

So lets wait for more details Before We All Panic !!

I don't know if this has been said before, but isn't this just an installment for the PS Move? Think about it. How ackward and complex would it be to have some E.T. finger functioning on the LBP Community? Weird, huh? Maybe LBP2 is for that finger.

And why is this such a big deal? When LBP PSP was first coming out, a lot of people thought it was LBP2. Ya, that was true.
