  • Community Spotlight Episode 107

Welcome everyone to the latest Episode of the Spotlight, hot off the press and packed with all the very best that the Showcase has to offer for your playing pleasure.

Before we start though, we have a very sad farewell to say to rialrees who is retiring as a spotlighter. We’ve let her go but only on the understanding that she now has no excuse not to finish her Printz series! A huge thank you to Ria for everything she has done for the Crew in her time, for her warmth, energy and humour. It won’t be the same without her *sniff*

On the bright side though we can welcome L-I-M-I to our ranks. He will be helping out on the LBP2 side of things and we’re very glad to have him join us.

Without further ado, on with the Spotlight

    FLIP IT
    by  AngeloMattei
FLIP IT is a Battle Card Game. Featuring a extraordinary collection of cards in 4 Pre-Constructed Decks. Train with the Card Master or go Online versus friends. ----[]-----[]----[]----- Very Special Thanks to: Lildem0n1 and iChaosClay for the terrific music.

AngeloMattei has successfully blown my mind once again. As I write this, I'm staring at my television screen in complete disbelief of what I'm seeing. This..this is unreal! Flip It is an amazing card battle game where you get to choose between four different decks, all with unique characters. The game has a single player training mode and of course a multiplayer mode so you can battle it out with your friends. The object, for those not in the know, is to turn all the cards on the playing field to your color by beating your opponent's card(s). Don't worry, there is a tutorial. The smooth animations and entrancing music will have you in awe as you do battle. As kaiju_kid said in his review, "Flippin cool."

    biorogue

Flip it is well FLIPPIN AMAZING. Angelo how do you keep pulling these levels out. I was shocked at how awesome this looked, played, and just just darn I am speechless I loved every bit of my experiences at this level. I am hooked how flippin good this level is. Everything was smooth and felt natural, even the coin flip animation was perfect. From the interactive menu to the music this was just a great level. If you guys are up for a flippin good time play Flip it today!

    WESFUN

Flip it, Kick it, Whip it good. This mastery of logically ambitions blew my mind the first, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th time I played it. I love how the 4 sets of cards are numerically well balanced and touched off with some amazing artwork to boot. I definetly would recommend this wonderful level to any and everyone. So grab a friend and join in on some of the most Flippin Fun of Flip-it.

    Blood Diamond By FabFio71
    by  FabFio71
Hello, this is my newest adventure. it's located in a secret underground mine. wend your dangerous way to the closely-guarded Blood Diamond. but be careful, danger is all around you....thx @Tevlon1 for the great music. have fun :)

Take a walk in an semi abandoned mineshaft where the only thing that really wants to kill you is the workers. Enjoy the vast environment as you kill the workers by using switches and leavers. with even mine-carts you get to control. relax as the beautiful music just adds to the atmosphere. Collect gems and diamonds as you make your way across the level. Watch out as you try to avoid cameras that will try to fry you instantly. I really enjoyed this levels over all presentation and the way the game-play gets harder as you go along through out the level. Fab shows us what we can do if we put our minds into making a level!

    WESFUN

Oooh a level set in a mine! A staple of LBP that can quickly get as stale as the air in a, well, mine. Luckily there is some great ventilation installed in this level, as you sneak trough an underground complex collecting diamonds. Part platformer with a dash of sneaking, you find yourself using the environment against the guards to quietly dispatch them as you creep ever closer to the fabled blood diamond.

    Like Stardust

Puzzle-Platformer ; Medium/Hard ; 1 Player recommended ----- Music created by Buddydestruction and father_pyro. And many thanks go to all my friends who supported me with creative ideas and who had to test the level for me again and again :)

First, the background. Whoa. Absolutely stunning. You know I love my fast paced, skin of your teeth platformers, but I also like a nice calm and relaxing romp as well. I entered the level and was greeted by serene music and that gorgeous background and thought, "ok, I dig this." The first part of the level presented me with numerous puzzles that I had to complete in order to progress to the next section. The puzzles themselves aren't too difficult and are really quite ingenious as you have to traverse back and forth through pipes to solve the riddle. Then, just as you are admiring the beautiful scenery, the pipes break and you are plunged into the underbelly of the world, full of molten lava and rusty machinery. Got what it takes to puzzle your way out of this? Then queue it up today.

    biorogue

Wow a fast paced platformer I am so playing this. Like stardust will bring you on a journey of brilliantly thought out puzzles game-play and over all theme. I enjoyed every second of this well put together level. as you enter the level enjoy the beautiful background and glorious music. As you continue on the adventure relax as the difficulty goes from a 1 to about 5. which make this level as enjoyable so you don't have to chuck your controller at your cat. Be careful in those pipes one of them is sure to break on you.

    WESFUN

This is a level that takes your breath away the moment you drop into it and see the beautiful desert-like planet surface, the drop dead gorgeous background and subtle lighting. But you’ll quickly need to gather your wits and stop gawking at the scenery because there are puzzles to solve if you’re going to progress. The puzzles make clever use of wormholes to take you crawling with a satisfying clanking noise in and out of a series of mysterious pipes littering the planet’s surface. It’s pleasantly absorbing and relaxing...until you drop into the caverns below the planet surface and find yourself hopping urgently on and off blocks of wood drifting along in a stream of lava. Beautifully polished, elegant and original, this level stands out effortlessly from the crowd.

    Mad Matt’s Mansion
    by  Z1091990
Mad Matt needs your help to test his new invention.... catch his new invention and try to survive his tricky and weird mansion...... ::HIGHLY DESIGNED FOR 1 PLAYER ONLY:: there are also 9 secrets to collect for a higher score.. awesome music by nk827

Whoa! How many different contraptions can you fit into a level? Answer. Quit a lot. Running through this mansion was like going through a well planned, well executed obstacle course and...hmm, I guess it IS a well planned, well executed obstacle course. So the professor has a new invention and you get to be his Guinea pig, which is perfectly fine by me! The obstacles and contraptions you will encounter are extremely creative and almost as fun to watch as to play on them. Step inside Mad Matt's Mansion and let the fun begin!

    biorogue

Ha, for once helping a mad scientist to test his latest invention does not see you becoming entangled in a plot for world domination. The gameplay in this level makes a refreshing change too and you’ll find yourself using Mad Matt’s Mini-me-inator to get through a series of clever contraptions. You’ll be spun, bounced and catapulted every which way and it’s a whole lot of fun sending your mini-mes flying about the place and launching yourself on high in search of those 9 nine secrets. There’s some cool timing based gameplay and lots of combos to track down. It’s an extremely polished and beautifully designed piece of work and just a pleasure to play from start to finish. Oh, just as a side note, if you ignore the 1 player only warning and play with a friend, be aware that both your creatinators will spit out copies of player 1. Part way through playing this with Deadmn I noticed that his sackboy was looking distinctly uncomfortable, not to say scared. When I asked what was up he simply replied “too many shropshirelasses”….

    shropshirelass

WES'S WES's everywhere all flying around! I enjoyed this level to the very end. It was a very fun innovative and quite unique style level. I don't think there is another one like this out there. Every section is like oh what does this do followed by a look of amazement Mad Matt sure likes this contraption... Okay I do admit he is very insane. You get introduced to his invention that makes copies of yourself to fling where ever you want. This adds for unique and interesting game-play This level will make you get flung everywhere and anywhere in order to complete your goals. The details are simply perfect and it really sets the mood of a laboratory Plus the added music just makes it even better. So go play this wonderful awe-inspiring level now. NOW NOW NOW!

Full Metal Tilt (Best as 1 player)
    by  RtooDee2
NOTE: This was originally designed as a SINGLE player level for smooth gameplay. More than one player you may experience LAG. Welcome to "The Molecule Metal Plant". A platformer where you will use the Sixaxis of your controller, TILT your way through the plant...and try to avoid falling into the Hot metal itself. There is also 8 spray cans to collect for bonus points! Big thanks to all my testers! Music by Buddydestruction. This level was brought to you and sponsored by Buttonator industries.com

I cannot get enough of this level! I must have played it a dozen times and still can't seem to reach Lass' top score! Maybe one day. Anyway, you have come upon a most unique factory of sorts, the Molecule Metal Plant, and after you clean up all the drool you can start your tour of this lovely facility. Aside from how utterly gorgeous this place is, it is also filled to the rafters with some great gameplay mechanics such as making great use of the tilt controller. From the detailed environment, the lights, the sounds of machinery to the awesome gameplay, you will love this level. Play it!

    biorogue

Full metal tilt is a masterpiece of button action tilting fun.As you go through the level interacting without the use of a silly Sackbot. You just cant beat this addicting game-play With the use of the Buttonator you shoot red switches to continue you travels throughout the level. You tilt objects in the level using the axis controls. The added cameras just increases the awesomeness of the level. As you go through the level collecting spray bottles to rank up your score. I enjoyed the levels overall feel and game-play. I really enjoyed the worm hole aspect that RtooDee2 has implemented into this level. This level is just astonishing so definitely check this out next time your on.

    WESFUN

This level is just a blast to play. The brilliantly designed gameplay will test your agility, speed and ingenuity as you make your way through the Molecule Metal Plant, activating buttons with the buttonator, frantically tilting your sixaxis to move platforms into place in time and hunting down the bonus spray cans as you go. It’s truly exhilarating running through a level as ingenious and as beautifully put together as this. The factory setting has bags of dash and colour and the music really sets your heart pumping. Fortunately for me (otherwise I’d have been knocked off the top of the scoreboard long ago!), this level has a maximum score so I need have no qualms in telling you all to play it now! :P

Two Much of a Goo Thing
    by  shookie_monster
[1 PLAYER ONLY!] It's time to put your Goo Gun skills to the test once again. Use the Goo Gun to make anything have attract-o-goo properties. MEDIUM DIFFICULTY. Music by @comishguy67.

I'm glad Shookie spelled "two" t-w-o and not t-o-o because you definitely can't have "too" much of this. Enter this wonderful factory type environment and equip yourself with the ever trusty "goo" gun. This is a marvelous invention indeed. Shoot it at any surface and you will instantly be able to walk up and down and all around said surfaces, just like that web slinging guy! Be careful though, because the goo powers are limited and if you aren't quick enough, you'll be impaled on the spikes below or worse, electrocuted where you stand. There is a nice variety and balance in gameplay and of course, the visuals are top notch. Don't wait, go play this goo-rific level today!

    biorogue

In this gootasticly funtastic adventure you travel through a factory style environment of sheer delight. Where every surface can be changed to stick your little sack feet to the ground with a tap of a button using the goo gun. In this fully interactive environment your first goo shot might be your last. Shookie delivers this unique level of epic proportions. Brace yourself this is one level you want to play for everyone whom wants to get into a sticky situation.

    WESFUN

Such a clever level! It will give both your thumbs and your wits a work out as you make your way through the factory using judicious shots of goo from your goo gun to stick yourself to the walls and ceiling. Plan carefully though and watch your step because the stickiness is only temporary and one shot too many or lingering too long to collect the bubbles will see you plunging back to earth and usually to a nasty end on some spikes or other hazard. I had a great time picking out a route and trying for the longest combos and Shookie cleverly rings the changes with the goo mechanic to keep things fresh. Creative and fun, this level is well worth a play.

STAR WARS:Cloudy with a Chance of Carbon Freezing: err,Etc! Pt 1
    by  julesyjules
With your Rebel friends in danger, you arrive on the Cloud City of Bespin. You're going to need a little help from a certain droid though. Can man and machine save the galaxy? Platforming adventure level, Med Difficulty,1P. Huge thanks to Just_Crusader, whose logic skills and help saved the day on many occasions, and Alley_Cat for inspiring me to keep making 'em...

Whoa to the tenth degree! I've stated it before but I think it bears repeating, playing these JulesyJules Star Wars levels is as good as, if not better, than watching the films! This episode takes us to the cloud city of Bespin where, with the help of our trusty R2 unit, we can overcome numerous obstacles. We don't control R2 directly but rather he follows us and opens doors, activates switches etc. There are a few times where we have to aid him and there's one moment where we have to ride on his head! Man, you just can't say enough good things about this awesome piece of work. If you haven't played any of this series, I highly recommend you do so.

    biorogue

Welcome to JulesyJules Star Wars universe where everything is unbelievably detailed and so well done you might think Disney pays Julesy or something. This level does its job right as it leaves you speechless and amazed. With its unique game-play involving light Saber puzzles to even having to control R2-D2 this is Star Wars done right. Its intense game-play kept me entertained. So sit back in your custom Millennium Falcon and get to playing this brilliant level!

    WESFUN

I would say "whoa" at this point but I think Bio has copyright for spotlighting purposes, lol. The latest level in julesyjules’s Star Wars series sees you attempting to...well, save the galaxy. A slightly daunting prospect admittedly but fear not, you have R2 at your side, providing both practical help and moral support (hmm, apparently even with my very dubious mastery of the double-jump, the galaxy is already looking less doomed…). Misplaced faith in my abilities aside, the interaction with R2 has to be one of the highlights of this level, both gameplay and humour-wise. Add to that some beautifully designed platforming and the odd bit of lightsaber wielding and you have an entertaining and action-packed adventure on your hands. The setting and lighting are as stellar as ever and all in all this is another must-play level and a testament to julesyjules’s ability to keep pushing boundaries with this series.
