  1. Cool Sounds like a smart decision.
  2. I've been gun shy after the hard drive went out on my laptop in late 2009. I've always been pretty good about backing up and didn't really lose anything, but it's still a pain. Also, after having had to restore a hosed profile on the PSP about half a dozen times I'm fairly twitchy.

So, update! I stopped by GameStop and picked up a new 160gb for $250. The data transfer is running between the two systems right now. Yay!

Now, per Murphy's Law, my old PS3 will never die, causing me to always question being so paranoid.
  3. You are a very practical man. Wish mine had given me more warning or I'd been a little more paranoid about the YLOD thing. I had no clue it could happen. Weird because it's on a tv tray, plenty of ventilation not buried under anything, lol still fried. Oh well, live and learn and back up often!

Good luck - lemmie know how it turns out
  4. Aha! Thanks for the tip - I found the ethernet transfer method. I think I will definitely do that. Thanks!

There's nothing wrong in particular with my old 60gb fat PS3, but it is getting up there in age and I'm constantly having to fight with running out of hard drive space. I have a nagging feeling I'll be sorry if I don't get a new PS3 soon. Also, it would be nice to have a blu-ray player for the other TV.
  5. I wish. lol. No unfortunately I tried doing that as my first system was gasping it's last breath and she YLOD'd midway through the process. I had been making regular profile backups so I had to transfer all my data via 4GB memory stick. Lost some stuff but not anything essential.

There's a backup utility on the new ones that will transfer from an old system directly to the new one, as I recall you only need to hook them up via ethernet cable and then start the transfer. There's a tutorial online somewhere for it. I've heard it works pretty good if you go that route.
  6. Hey there! Random question for you.

A few months back you had to get a new PS3 and move your save data over from your old console. How did you have to go about doing that? Did you just run a backup on your old system and then restore that backup on the new one?
  7. Haha awesome. I'll log in now.
  8. Sounds good. I need a little dose of Taffey wisdom
  9. Oh heck. I logged out only about 10 mins before you logged on. Let's try again today?
  10. It's ok I'm on now but it's probably too late for you.
