ok - I'll try. Sounds like the fan just kicked in and I'm at 5 min and counting... intermittent much. lol
True.. but what I mean is the circuitry to shut off the PS3 could be set on thermo (exceeding a temp) OR the fan turning at a slow speed. If it is set to heat as the cpu is horribly senstive on pcs as well as ps3 etc... you might be able to stablize it by freezing it oustside or something.. stick it near an open window etc.. sounds silly, but all I have for you.

Yeah.. not sure. Though if it is truly a thermo alarm failing because of the fan, it might be that it would last for awhile doing those short term segments. I wonder if you could stick it outside and keep it cold, if it would do it long enough to pull all your stuff off. Make a shelf off your room outside! ...sorry.. all I can think of. However if it is an RPM type sensor on the fan... that really won't do anything. I need to head to bed.. If I think of anything else I will let you know, but keep posting your findings either here or the thread and that might give someone an idea. arggghhh I hate this for you!
It's my first major hardware failure since my Sega CD so I guess I can't complain. The ps2 died but after 7 years it owed me nothing. lol
I tried backing up RB and Oblivion and I'm going to loose it all. All the Dead Space and Mirror's edge and Soul Calibur too.... unless they can migrate. I don't think they can. I could be incredibly upset right now but I'm cautiously optimistic for the moment.. sort of scared by my calm. lol. I just hope my backups are enough.... and I can get the current one down before she dies. I got the LBP disk out and now I'm afraid to go in and try and pull stuff down in case it dies with it inside.
Yeah.. no kiddin. Makes me think I will be next someday. Our oldest is around a year and 3 months and the other is 6 months. One of the reasons I have always stayed away from consoles as they aren't really modular like a pc.
You might call sony and best buy and weigh your options. I am not sure you can simply swap HDD in those things. Especially now they are the slims. Even before, I think they would reinit the HDD or something, though to be honest I am a bit vague on all that as I have read several things, I skimmed quite a bit. If you could get a profile as well as a new level backup, a new slim might be the most bang for the buck as far as lifetime. Just not sure what all you might lose as far as RB is concerned. Again.. I would call everyone and then decide. So sorry... this just sucks..
