Yep, it's a layer that occupys the same space as sackboy, that is slighly thinner than the depth of a thick layer minus checkpoint thickness.
So it's the anti of the checkpoint glitch?
There is a glitch in the game that allows you two place two layers (one less thick than normal and one fatter than a thin layer0 in one thick layer.. They resulted from some glitch that occured with checkpoints and golfballs. The glitch has since been fixed but if you want I can give you the glitch objects so you can use it. They're very handy for trying to fit several components into the thick layer. Some notable examples include my Metal Slug tank, my Barracuda and the tank that will feature in "Steam-Paint - Locomotive Leviathan".
